Parker

Parker knew he needed more practice flying if he was going to be a valuable member of the team. So he took his broom and walked to the Quidditch Pitch.

He had hoped there wouldn't be anyone there incase he had problems again, but as he walked out to the field he saw someone.
He called out: "Is it ok if I practice flying?"

Amelia's pessimism about the Quidditch season had proven depressingly accurate, but she kept practicing anyway. For one thing, she still had a good few years at Sonora to go, and for another, combined teams were a possibility.

She was practicing diving to this end when she heard someone call out to her. She pulled herself, fairly smoothly, out of her five and flew over to a more comfortable viewing and speaking distance of the Pecari she didn't know.

“Of course,” said Amelia. “I don't think the Pitch has my name on it. You just here to fly or you want to throw a Quaffle around?” If there were combined teams, it wouldn't be bad to have brushed up on her Chaser skills, too.

Parker watched the woman fly down to him. She was super graceful in her decent and that made Parker extremely self conscious of his own ability.

Parker thought about her question for a second. He might as well get flying practice in with throwing the Quaffle. It would help with flying one handed.
"Let's throw the Quaffle around. I must warn you though, still getting used to broom riding," he said holding out his hand and thinking up while imagining holding out an apple.

He opened his eyes again, excited that the broom was actually up.

"Where's the Quaffle?" Parker asked before getting onto his now levitating broom.

Amelia smiled kindly at the warning, though the object of her amusement didn't see it with his eyes closed over his broom.

“Should be one in the equipment shed,” said Amelia, pointing. “I'll go check it out.”

She returned a moment later with a Quaffle, red and easily gripped by virtue of the charms on it. “I'm Amelia, by the way,” she said. “Third year, Aladren. I'm pretty sure you're new around here?”

Parker was thankful for her going to get the Quaffle as he'd likely be stuck in the shed for a few minutes if not longer. He took the time to do a few quick stretches and get on his broom.

"I'm Parker umm Pecari first year. So ya, fairly new," Parker responded. He didn't want to alert her to the fact that he was also new to the whole wizarding world.
"So just a few flying lessons. Thus the warning."

He started flying a little forward then turned around in a wide u turn to get back to her.

"You on the Aladren team right? Does that make us competitors?"

Amelia shrugged when Parker asked if they were competitors. “On game day, sure,” said Amelia. “But today, I won't tell your captain if you don't tell mine, how's that sound?”

In this spirit of cooperation, she waited until Parker looked more or less steady on his broom before saying “Ready? Catch!” and gently tossing the Quaffle toward him.

Parker cocked his head to the side and looked at Amelia. "Sounds fair to me."

Parker steadied himself and got himself ready to catch. He remembered the tryouts and the throwing of the ball so he knew it was easy to catch. Easier than it looked.

So as he reached for the ball he knew he shouldn't over compensate too much, but he did and rocked back a bit on the broom.

As he steadied himself he turned to Amelia, "like I said, still getting used to this." He tossed it back, trying to do it softly like she did to him.

"What's a practice players do with the Quaffle?"

He caught the Quaffle, which was good. It wasn't a great catch, but it was a catch and a better start than some made. Amelia clapped lightly in approval.

“Good job,” she said.

Parker tossed it back, and Amelia reached out to catch it as she thought. “I haven't done any in a while, either - I'm usually on Seeker - but it's a little fancier.” She tossed the Quaffle back to Parker. “Let's try this. You go up higher, if you can, and toss it down to me. Then we'll flip that around. Sound good?”

Seeker being fancier? More difficult for sure. Parker caught the Quaffle, moving his broom a bit to make sure he caught it solidly in his center, like they taught him in PeeWee football.

"Go up and throw down. Got it...I think," said Parker as he turned upwards at a rate faster than he anticipated. He was able to stop and then looked down. He wasn't more than 10 ft above but it felt higher. Parker more dropped the ball than threw it really.

"Ok. This is what I'm still working on," he shouted down. Preparing for the sharp impact of the ground if he fell. He took a deep breath and followed the movement s he had copied before during tryouts. He was now glad there was someone else there incase he crashed to the ground.

"Well," he said when he was closer to the ground, "that was better than last time."
