Welcome to Fast and Furious Quidditch. This is a new format, so we hope people will pitch in (hoho), try it out, and help us work out what works and what doesn’t. As per all FnF posts, there is no word count, and as per all Quidditch matches, there is no set posting order.
We’re trialing the following guidelines to make sure the match stays accessible and realistic, i.e. to prevent two characters dominating the whole game if their authors happen to be on together: Maximum of ten exchanges between a single pair of characters in one go Maximum of two passes of the Quaffle between the same two players in one sequence (e.g. Parker passes to Ness who passes back to Parker - wait for someone else) If the match is getting very busy, it is requested that authors log into chatzy in order to claim a turn, in order to avoid multiple double (or more) posts occurring. A claimed turn must be completed at that time, and not saved for later
I am hoping that, without the pressure of ‘one long post’ we can get some collaboration and manoeuvres going, so authors are absolutely encouraged to use statements such as ‘They had been practising the Hawkshead formation in training and Winston flew in to support his team mate’
Usual Qudiditch rules apply though scoring will be done differently Please use the following html tag in your author name by removing the spaces < font color="orange" > (or "green"), and close the tag after it < / font >

Coach Kinsell worked his way through the players, tapping each to colour change their robes to either orange or green. Today’s training session was a mock-match. It was a bright clear day, not too many other complicating factors such as a hurricane or rain, so just a good day to test endurance, and the full on chaos of fourteen bodies in the air (plus two on the bench).
They had all been working hard over the year, training in their preferred positions, and the team had had decent success in its away matches. Today, one or two people had to take on something they liked less, and they all had to work in different combinations to usual. Hopefully, however, they had trained enough as ‘The Chasers’ or ‘The Beaters’ that they knew how to click easily into different subunits of those. He released the Bludgers and Snitch, and mounted his broom ready to throw the Quaffle.
“On my whistle. Three, two, one,” he counted the players down, giving a shrill blast and throwing the scarlet ball high. The match was on.
Evelyn wasn't terribly interested in getting the snitch just yet, but she wanted a good vantage point. She'd been doing her best not to suck today, and she had high hopes that she'd practiced enough to make that happen.
When the coach blew the whistle, Evelyn kicked off hard and flew as high as she could. Winston had a number of advantages, but she couldn't help thinking her frame made her more aerodynamic and thus faster. Time would tell.
Focusing downward, Evelyn watched the start of the game.
Ness was not a fan of elbows to the face. Or to the back. Or to really any part of the body. Even elbows to other elbows were jarring and painful.
Thus, when the whistle blew, the second year pulled away from the scrum, heading just a short way up the pitch and hoping to be in a good position to relieve a team-mate who got it - though not so far that turning tail and chasing a rival was out of the question if they got the ball first.

Winston grimaced a bit when he saw Coach Kinsell turn his robe the same green as The Aladren’s, but being the first string Seeker this year, he was fortunately not going to have to deal with that player directly.
That was the best thing about being seeker. He had originally wanted it for the glory, but he quickly came to realize its greatest advantage was actually that he only needed to coordinate with one other person on his team, and worry, at most, about three people on the other team. Everyone else was immaterial and could safely be ignored.
Today, the most important one to pay attention to was Evelyn Stones, a mere second year of no significant family. Probably muggle born or half-bred, if her choice of friends was any indication. Which meant she probably hadn’t grown up on a broom the way he had.
Winston had this game.

Heinrich had been surprised to be named the most junior chaser for the first string team. He was also surprised Hilda had been likewise named the junior beater for the first string team. As the most junior players, they were sometimes subbed out to give second string players a chance to play, and he didn’t think it was coincidence that when Hilda was taken out, so was he, nor was it coincidence that she never played without him either.
And it was equally unlikely that it was coincidence that both of their robes turned orange today.
He dutifully translated all of Lily’s pre-game comments and instructions to his sister, then readied himself to launch into the air at the coach’s whistle.
That came and Heinrich kicked off the ground, heading for the Quaffle. He emerged victoriously in possession, probably a product more of lucky starting position and a faint guat of wind blowing it his way than of skill, but however he came by it, he did have the Quaffle and started the orange team closer to their first goal by carrying it about half the distance toward Isaac before passing it to a fellow orange clad chaser.

The best thing about Sonora - other than it having Johana Leonie - was Quidditch. She’d made the first string as a first year which maybe indicated that the school perhaps did not host not the strongest Quidditch talent in America, but they did respectably in competition, so they certainly weren’t the worst either, and Hilda was admittedly quite good at Beating despite her age. And she wasn’t so essential they didn’t sometimes replace her with one of the second string players to let them get more experience.
Though, truthfully, she wasn’t entirely convinced that wasn’t mostly to take out Heinrich who was not as good at Chasing as she was at Beating, but she couldn’t understand anybody without him there to translate for her, so she was not so good without him there to tell her the day’s strategies.
Mostly though, once the game got started, Quidditch did not require a great deal of English, and she knew most of the key phrases likely to get shouted in the moment. Things like ‘Look out!’ and ‘Watch your back!’ got picked up pretty quickly when pain - or worse, failure to keep her teammates safe - was the result of not heeding them.
Today she was senior beater, in that she was first string and JD was not, and he was not any older than her. That mean she was responsible for the seeker, who was Evelyn. She liked Evelyn. Evelyn asked for eggs in German. Which meant Hilda was determined to keep her safe for Evelyn’s own sake as well as her strategic value as the Seeker.
But first, she was going to make the second year’s job easier by distracting the competition. She caught up to one of the bludgers and smacked it in Winston Pierce’s direction.
Turning tail it was then. Ness shot off towards the main action. Not having to disentangle from a scrum was a solid advantage there.
The second year wasn't going to catch Heinrich before he passed, but the orange Chaser nearby was going to find a green-robe at their side, putting pressure on them to veer away from the goals.

Lily was excited to finally have the coveted title of 'captain' before her name, and she expressed her enthusiasm during every practice. She took the position seriously, however, and her pre-match speech was calculated and practical.
When the whistle blew, Lily watched Heinrich successfully grab the Quaffle and she followed him. When he seemed ready, she flew by and caught the pass he threw. Ness was pressing her too closely to fly straight towards the hoops, so she quickly changed course and flew rapidly up and down, trying to put some distance between them.
It was difficult with the opposing Chaser pressing in on her, so Lily passed the Quaffle to another orange-clad Chaser away from Ness.

Simon was neither surprised nor unsurprised when he and his cousin were not assigned to the same team. In fact, he barely noticed the situation at all. Nathaniel was easy enough to overlook in any case, and all that affected Simon in this one was who the Seeker was and who his fellow Beater was. As he was both the more skilled Beater and also knew Winston rather well - well, insofar as people like them got to know other people of their own status well - he was obviously going to concentrate on the Seekers and thus was extremely unlikely to interact with Nathaniel in any capacity on the Pitch.
In theory, Evelyn Stones and Hilda Hexenmeister were ridiculously easy to get around, almost an insult to put him and Winston up against. Hilda was surprisingly decent at Beating for a girl, though, and the Snitch could behave positively indecently, for a lump of metal, sometimes. So he did at least keep his eyes moving between the two girls as they kicked off, and so had the good luck to see when Hilda tried to take out Winston. He intercepted the Bludger and hit it toward Evelyn rather smoothly, if he did say so himself. Hilda seemed to have a passion for the position and sport which Simon had always lacked, but what he lacked in passion, he was fairly sure he made up for in simply being bigger than Hilda.

In theory, with his cousin and his brother now parts of the Quidditch team, Nathaniel thought Quidditch should have been a magnificent vehicle for family bonding. In practice, however, it was not; Jeremy was on the bench, which he imagined he, at least (he thought Jeremy had just enough sense to keep his mouth shut about his grievances to Simon - probably) would be made to regret later, and Simon was on the other team.
At least, as Keeper, he was unlikely to come up against his cousin directly. After only momentarily frowning slightly with distaste at his team's color (orange was not, he thought, particularly flattering against his pale face and light brown hair), he went to guard some hoops and mostly watch the game from an unusually good position.
Of the Chasers, he thought he liked Heinrich best, on the rather superficial grounds that they were in classes together and Heinrich was someone who had never taken a fancy to start shouting at him for no good or obvious reason. The other Chasers also held this distinction, but Lily was much older than he, Parker was one of Those Fourth Years (and therefore as likely as not to decide Nathaniel was among his arch-nemeses at any moment), Malikhi and Ness were people who seemed to be around explosions and messes with appalling frequency, and Beatriz had made no real impression on him at all. As this was not a bad impression, however, and Lily was the captain, he supposed he liked his Chasers better than the others, and therefore had no compunction about clapping when Lily laid hands on the ball, settling warily into the feeling of being on a team, and therefore in a united group that included people other than his family.
It was, if he was to be honest, sort of nice. He had quite given up on these things working out for him outside the Pitch, but he was happy enough with it at the moment.
She'd been working with Simon long enough during competitive matches, that it didn't come as too much of a shock that he was on the bludger before it got anywhere near Winston. But she had factored that in, and had already started flying to get between him and Evelyn.
She didn't have a good angle to make a return hit at Winston without just guaranteeing a bludger volley game between the two beaters - a prospect that favored him more than her given their relative sizes - so she instead opted to smack the bludger off toward nobody in particular.
It might eventually swing back around toward Evelyn, but she'd keep an eye on it, and if it got close enough, maybe she'd have an opening on Winston then.

Evelyn did not particularly appreciate bludgers being hit in her direction, and was glad to see that Hilda also had something to say about that.
"Danke," she shouted to the girl before veering off to start a half circle. She wanted to make sure she was looking around as much as possible, especially now that she knew Hilda would have her back.
