Alexander had asked Ida to meet him at the MARS dance room for his first attempt at courtship. He arrived early to set up the room into a nice ballroom. Classical music was playing, loud enough to dance to, but not so loud as to make conversation difficult.
He had left the door open and he turned toward it as he saw movement from that direction. He smiled when he saw it was Ida. He held out a hand toward her. “Would you like this dance?”
She had a date. Ida hadn't ever been on an official date before. She was a bit nervous. It was Alexander, so that was good. She knew Alexander, and was thrilled to delight that he'd asked her. But that almost made the nervousness worse.
Alexander had asked her to meet at the MARS dance room and 'dress nice'. She was certain that her level of 'nice' was nowhere close to his, but he knew that. Right? So, she got her nicest dress, the one she wore for the opening feast, this time not covered by her school robes.
She smiled and reached for his offered, extended hand. "I would." There was only a minor hesitation, surely barely noticeable.
