Concussed and confused and I want my brother. by Leo Idoya

Being concussed, Leo reflected as he and Gray Markner made their way towards the hospital wing, really wasn't all that bad. Everything was kind of quiet and dim, even in his own head--his thoughts all seemed very far away and unimportant. He mightn't have been grinning like an idiot anymore, but he wasn't frowning, either--the pain had subsided to all but the dullest ache, and that really only hurt because it pounded in time with his pulse. He tripped once, down one of the passageways, but managed to grab both Markner and a nearby doorknob to right himself. He mumbled an apology to her, and they continued onward.

The hospital wing, by contrast, was almost obnoxiously bright. Painfully bright. He winced and held up a hand to shield his eyes. When he thought that he could look around without dying of the pain, he did so--only to find the hospital wing empty.

"Sir?" he called, his own voice very hollow in his ears. "Mr. Wolfe?"

Grail Markner

I'll be there until then and after by Grail Markner

Lightly down the halls, Gray held tight to Leo. He seemed to stumble a bit and she didn't want him to fall again. She didn't want him to get worse. When he tripped she let had let out a small cry and latched onto him at the same time he grabbed her and a doorknob. And when he muttered something along the lines of "I'm sorry" she waved him off. No, he didn't need to say that to her. SHe was glad to help.

In what seemed like no time, they reached the Wing. When they got in, it was a little brighter than outside. She saw Leo wince back and she smiled a little. As he called out for the Nurse, who Leo had called Mr. Wolfe, she pulled him to a nearby chair, and gently forced him to sit down. She sat down next to the chair in the empty Wing to wait. Looking to the door for Nikki and Leo's brother.

"You're head feel any better?" she asked stupidly, hearing Chali in the background chuckle (but right now that didn't matter. "That was quite a fall, how'd it happen?" Was this the sort of concussion where you had to keep the person awake? She knew there were types like that. Stay awake or you die? Better safe than sorry, even if her questions were a little stupid.

Leo (and Gil)

September 20, 2006 11:43 PM

that's sweet! by Leo (and Gil)

Leo looked over at Gray as she began to speak, and found that it was getting easier to focus on her words. "Yes... I am feeling better, thank you," he said. And the stammering, slurring, inability to speak had vanished, as well! That was certainly promising. He colored hotly when she asked how it had happened, though. "I tripped."

He'd opened his mouth to make some muttered complaint about homicidal chair legs when the doors to the Hospital Wing opened again, and a blessedly familiar dark head peered around the edge.

"Leo!" Gil hurried across the room, all lack of grace and stumbling eleven-year-old. "Leo, what happened? Nikki just showed up and started pounding outside of Teppenpaw--and she was crying, and talking about you hitting your head--" He looked his older brother over; there was no blood that he could see. "What happened?"

Leo's blush returned full force. "Tripped and hit my head. Hard," he added as that ache pulsed again. He caught a glimpse of the blond Aladren out of the corner of his eye, and, ever the gentleman, remembered his manners. "Oh--Gil, Gray Markner. Markner, my brother." Terse, but it got the job done.

"Mil gracias," Gil said gratefully, turning to Markner and giving her his most benevolent smile, the one that always made his mother cluck her tongue and coo over how much of a heartbreaker her son would be one day. "Mil, mil gracias."

OOC: mil gracias - a thousand thanks.

Of course by Gray

Gray smiled when she saw--er... heard--Leo seeming to talk a little better. Now that was good. No doubt about it. SHe gave Leo a little smile when he blushed. Now why was he doing that? He only fell. But, she did remember he seemed to be going to Nikki. Maybe something happened? She wanted to ask, but she thought it rude to. So she just replied his first statement.

"No problem," she said gently, leaning against the chair. "I'm just glad you're okay."

A little silence followed, but it was okay. It wasn't uncomfortable or anything. She was about to ask something else when a boy who looked like Leo came in. Must be his brother, Gil. Okay, she smiled and leaned back down, allowing the brothers to talk on their own. She only looked up when Leo acknowledged her and Gil smiled and said something in Spanish.

She just smiled and gave him a nod. Feeling a little stupid for not knowing Spanish. But there it came again, she didn't like it that much when people called her by her last name. It was almost as bad as calling her Grail.
"You can just call me Gray," she shrugged and sat back again. "So where's the doctor?" she asked suddenly.

Can't Think of a Title by Nikki

Nikki stepped nervously into the Hospital Wing and stood behind Leo and Gray. She blushed when she heard Gil tell his brother that she had been crying. In fact she had just collected herself before she and Gil had come in. How would Leo take that?

When Leo introduced his brother to Gray, Gil thanked Gray in Spanish. "He says 'a thousand thanks.'" Nikki whispered to Gray, not sure if she had understood what the younger Idoya had said.

Nikki finally turned to Leo. She put her hand on his head as she sat down beside him, looking into his eyes. "Are you feeling any better Leo?" she asked him. It was one of those questions one automatically asked when someone was hurt or had been hurt, even though the person being asked was likely thinking something along the lines of 'Of course/of course not you idiot.'

Idoya twins

me neither by Idoya twins

OOC: Apologies in advance... I may be a little slow at getting responses up, as I've just come down with the flu and my friends have me on bedrest. *rolls eyes*

BIC: Gil smiled and nodded at Markner--no, Gray--when she spoke up. "Gray, then. And I dunno--" he replied, lifting his head and looking around. The hospital wing was empty save for the four children, the two rows of neatly made beds, and several cabinets' worth of implements, potions, and lotions. "Doc Wolfe?" he called tentatively towards his office. "Hey, Doc Wolfe!"

No answer came, and he frowned, though he noticed that Leo was looking considerably better; his color was coming back, and every time he spoke it was more coherent and... well... Leo-ish. Gil wondered vaguely how the girls had reacted to his habitual laughing fit upon being injured; it was rather bizarre to witness for one who wasn't used to Leonardo III's numerous idiosyncracies.

Leo turned his own mismatched eyes onto Nikki, who was speaking and had her hand on his head. She was looking at him with disconcerting intensity again; she liked to do that. He wasn't so fond of it; she was very... piercing. Her gaze was rather like Mami's in that way, especially when Mami was trying to figure out her eldest son (which, admittedly, wasn't an easy task with all the conflicting training and tradition he'd been exposed to since a young age).

"I am, thank you," he said, meeting her gaze for a moment before turning to look at his brother again, remembering just what the younger twin had been doing before coming. A small sly smile spread over his face. "Did she like it?"

Gil blushed furiously. "Callate tu boca," he mumbled, glancing pointedly at the two girls.

"Cobarde," Leo spat with teasing venom.

"Maricon."

"Te amo, Gil."

"Yeah, yeah... y yo, tu," Gil muttered, still blushing furiously. "Ano." Then he glanced over at Nikki. "I'm sure Gray really doesn't want to have that translated."

Leo snorted.

OOC: callate tu boca--shut up; cobarde--coward; maricon--derogatory name similar to 'fag'; te amo--I love you; y yo, tu--and I you (probably not idiomatically translated... but hey).

Nikki laughed at the twins brotherly-love argument, but she agreed that Gray might not wanted it translated. "Looks like your almost back to your old self Leo." she said smiling. "And maybe your rubbing off on your brother here too." she said, referring to Gil's sterness, quick action, and, well, what he had just said.

Nikki was glad Leo hadn't hurt himself too bad. Or she didn't think he'd hurt himself too bad. But she wondered where the 'Doc Wolfe' was. She looked around, not seeing anyone but her friends.

Then something registered to her. "Did who like what?" she asked Gil curiously. She could tell from Gil's reaction to Leo's question that this was going to be good.

*smirks* by Leo and Gil

When Gil suggested that Gray might not want that exchange translated, Leo narrowed his eyes a little; Markner obviously couldn't speak Spanish like the other three could, and already seemed to be withdrawing from the conversation. For some reason he couldn't quite identify, this didn't sit right with Leo--though maybe it was because she reminded him forcibly of his little sister. Sure, Mercedes was a right little harridan when she was in a good mood, and a complete terror when annoyed or, Merlin forbid, angered--but she was a worrier, just like Gray had claimed to be back in the Cascade Hall. Mercedes' bravado and braggadoccio was a facade for the greater part, or so Leo had realized a few months before his departure--she was really a very sensitive girl, and prone to bouts of the blues. And there was just something about the Markner girl that reminded Leo of his beloved little sister...

"Just a fraternal spat," he murmured to her in explanation, softening the statement with a little smile to show her that it hadn't been serious. "Brothers. You know."

Leo looked up when Nikki laughed, and had to smirk a little at the second part of that statement. Gil laughed out loud. "Hear that, Leo? You're corrupting me."

"Me?" he asked as innocently as possible--which, admittedly, wasn't very. His smirk widened a little, spurred on by the realization that he was much more lucid than he had been a few minutes ago. "I'd say you corrupt me, hermano amado. Need I remind of that time last June when you and Jacinto--"

Gil coughed loudly and very fakely, eyeing the girls pointedly. "Mixed company, Leo," he chided, but couldn't withhold a grin. "And no, Nikki, you're not getting an explanation of who I gave what--or what I did last June."

Leo's smirk widened. "It's that Valentine girl. He's--"

"Leonardo!" Gil sputtered, choking. "Shut up, okay? Or I might have to let something drop about a certain neighbor of ours who's coming to Sonora next year..."

Leo scowled. He could empathize with the teasing Gil got about Eavan, really he could--he'd been getting it for a while in relation to the daughter of the Idoyas' neighbors, one Winifred Swift by name. "Remind me why I wanted you here again?" he muttered.

Gil grinned cheekily. "Because I'm your brother and you love me."

Leo rolled his eyes and turned to Gray, changing the subject bluntly. "I never did thank you for bringing me up here, Markner--I hope I didn't hurt you when I almost fell again."

Making up my own subject... okay by Gray

Gray was starting to shrink back from the conversation. She honestly had no idea what the three were talking about. Gil and Nikki translated for her once, and then she was confused again. She knew she couldn't add her own word in because she didn't know what was being said, and it seemed personal. Like she didn't belong with it.

"The only language you know is English, sweetie. You don't fit in again!" she heard Libby giggle. She didn't even try to remind herself that she did know a very little German. That might add more teasings from her insane head.

She was glad when Leo turned to her, bringing into a new subject. Hopefully all in English this time. She smiled and shook her head.
"You don't need to thank me," she said softly. "I was glad to help. And you didn't hurt me. I've been through worse." She shrugged lightly. "I'm just glad you're okay."

Nic Wolfe, Medic

Sorry for the delay by Nic Wolfe, Medic

Wolfe's familiar bounded into the hospital wing approximately thirty seconds before the wizard taking choosing to give an attempt at a jarvey's version of ten pin bowling. And this time the students were the pins. Nicolas practically growled as he barked the order for his familiar to relocate to the medic's office.

He watched the jarvey warily as it sulked off slowly. The overgrown ferret would drag its feet if it possibly could. At least it wasn't spitting insults at the children as it left.

Noticing the children he quickly schooled his features. "You have my apologies for the delay. Tell me exactly what happened, in cronological order if you do not mind." He glanced at the ink stains on his hands. He would have to cast a cleansing spell before he attempted to heal the student.

No problem, Doc by Leo Idoya

Leo gave Gray a small, grateful smile, then looked up as he heard the door open. His eyes opened wide as a jarvey bounded in and started racing towards them, and he muttered a curse under his breath. Was he hallucinating, now? He thought he'd been recovering pretty well! But why in the nine hells would there be a jarvey in Sonora's hospital wing. Easy. There wouldn't.

A few seconds later, though, a wizard hurried through and ordered the jarvey off; it sulked off towards the office, and Leo breathed a sigh of relief. If the wizard could see it, then it couldn't be a hallucination, could it? That was a relief.

"It's all right, sir," Leo said slowly. "I -- um -- I tripped and fell in the Cascade Hall and hit my head. It doesn't hurt so much anymore..." he felt foolish for coming now. If he'd done this at home, under his grandfather's watch, Abuelo would've made him sit it out without the help of any potions or charms, to make him stronger. "Sorry for the trouble, sir."

Really? by Nikki

"Give him something anyway sir." Nikki said, "He hit his head pretty hard. He burst out laughing in the Cascade Hall immediately after the injury. And didn't he trip when you walked him up here Gray?"

She didn't wait for a response. "Patient, Leonardo Idoya III, first year Crotalus." Nikki told the wizard. "I'm Nikki Ramirez. This is Grail Markner and this is Gil Idoya, the patient's brother. We'll leave if you want, but we'd like to stay with him, if that's okay sir."

*glares* by Leo

Leo waited for the medic to respond -- probably he'd just give the first year a quick look over and a potion for the headache, at most -- when Nikki suddenly burst in. Leo shot her a sidelong glare, hoping it would silence her, but no luck.

Leo wasn't the only one affected by the Aladren's outburst; Gil winced himself at hearing what she had to say. Leo always laughed when he hurt himself -- it was some sort of bizarre coping mechanism, or at least that's what their cousin Melisenda, a mediwitch herself, always said. It probably had less to do with his hitting his head and more with Leo being... well... Leo. And honestly, what was with her referring to him as 'the patient?' Gil's twin had hit his head and was in a school's infirmary; he wasn't bleeding to death in a magical hospital's emergency room, or undergoing tests or something like that. There was no need to be so clinical.

Still, Leo was keeping his peace -- for the moment, at least -- so Gil would do likewise. Both boys turned their angry gazes away from Nikki and looked expectantly towards the medic.

Nikki saw the twin's glares just before they turned to the medic. "What is your problem? Why are you giving me that look, I'm just trying to help. And Gil, you too. Honestly what did I do?" Nikki turned to Gray and gave her a look that asked without words 'Can you believe these two?'

Nikki, do you think you could try and extend your posts out a little more than this? The more you write, the better people are able to react to what is happening and what your character is doing/experiencing.

If you need help in fleshing out your posts, just think about what your character is thinking, what she might be seeing or actions she might be taking.

Thanks,

Too many children in the Hospital Wing by Wolfe, Medic

Wolfe watched the children exchange explanations absently. He didn't care if their social dynamics were confused. What mattered to the medic was his patient, and very little else. Of course, he still had a few nagging thoughts in the back of his head at all times: whether he should magically bind his familiar to some large unmovable object, the ever-present looming threat of his bethrothed, and the need for another cup of tea.

He addressed the group at large, "If you are not ill then you will need to leave the hospital wing now. Thank you for bringing your classmate. I assure you that my patients receive the best care possible." He waited for a moment for the children to exit before turning his attention to his patient.

"Now, let's see what we can do." He murmered a diagnostic spell over the child assessing the damage.
