Hey guys, like last term, I'm making a new section for the Nano Challenges since I encourage everyone to post replies to the various challenges with links to their posts so everyone can appreciate all your hard work!

Basically, for those of you who aren't yet aware, every April, July, and November I run a series of challenges for authors to participate in NaNoWriMo without actually having to write [insert word count here] words.

Below this I'll be adding smaller headlines with each challenge to keep you all updated so check back here frequently because they will go up every Friday (for sure) or by popular demand if enough people want a mid-week challenge as well.

xoxo

Though the rest of the challenges will go up on Fridays, as it's the first day of November we're going to kick things off with a challenge!

So, drumroll please, the first challenge of this Nano set uses that lovely wagon map that so many of our authors tirelessly complied:

Have a friendly check-in with someone from your regional wagon. Bonus points if you tag them in a class or in relation to a class (for example, asking for or offering help).

Check back frequently to see what other authors came up with and for new challenges. If enough people respond to a challenge before the next one is set to come up who knows, I may post a bonus extra challenge so post-post-post!

Hey guys, I'm moving the Nano Challenge info up here so that old list from last term isn't brought past the term line.

Basically, for those of you who aren't aware, every April, July, and November I run a series of challenges for authors to participate in NaNoWriMo without actually having to write [insert word count here] words.

To celebratra Nanowrimo, and because it was such a big success last year, this weekend will see the return of Sonora Fast and Furious.

What is it?
Sonora Fast and Furious is a posting event where the word count is waived. This leads to short, sharp exchanges between characters, which can happen in almost real-time if both authors are on at the same time. Whilst we appreciate the skill and craft that goes into writing here, this can make one thread take a long time, each conversation taking weeks to complete. This means that building friendships (or rivalries) takes a long time, and that you only know how a limited number of people interact with your character. Sonora F&F is a chance to quickly change and expand that.

When is it?
This weekend! For 48 hours, starting from 5pm site time on Friday, and running until the same time on Sunday.

Where is it?
We are going to use the Hospital Wing board, as it is rarely used, to do a trial run of this idea. If it is popular, we may choose or build a dedicated space for it. However, in character, the interactions can be set anywhere within the school. You can also continue your threads elsewhere on the site during the weekend, but normal posting rules and word counts apply to anything posted outside of the event.

The rules:
There are no rules! Ok, there are... In that all the usual rules, such as God-modding and the site's PG rating apply. The word count rule is waived. If you find your word count is creeping up and you hit the site word count anyway in a post, it doesn't matter - it's great if the event inspires a longer, more detailed thread.

I the first challenge went up only a few days ago and many of you have not had a chance to attempt it (myself included) but since it's a Friday and the start of this weekend's FnF, I thought it was time I post the second challenge! This is a redux of a challenge from last April with a small change:

Oh no! There was a huge test and your character forgot to study! OR if your character would *never* not study for a test, s/he stayed up so late studying they fell asleep during it. Write a post on how your character feels AFTER taking the test.

Please reply here with links to your posts so everyone can appreciate all your hard work!

In other news, I have closed the last chatzy poll (it appears future posts are quite popular!) and opened another to see if there are any other challenges authors would like to see again.

As always, I am open to suggestions so shoot me an email (included above) or catch me --currently in as Madeleine Dautin-- (or Jake Manger) in chatzy. I can't promise to be consistently available until Nov 18 but Jake has kindly agreed to forward me any questions just in case.

Due to an overwhelming response to the Fast and Furious, several staff authors have decided to extend the F&F for another 24 hours to help support the various time zone differences of site authors. The Heads have been informed of this extension. We hope for many others to join in the fun for these last 24 extended hours!

F&F will end Monday, 11/7/16 at 6pm Central time.

Thank you!

Whilst most F&F threads tend to be casual/random encounters, sometimes you can get started on something gripping, and there seem to have been several serious conversations this time around. If you started a thread and would like to continue you it, you can post it on the relevant board as 'continued from F&F' and continue posting it as regular posts, meeting the site word count.

Because this challenge came a couple hours late it has two parts! And both are the top voted challenges from the polls posted in the student chatzy.

Part one: to be written on the Sonora website, this is a redux of "It was all a dream!" your character has found him/herself in a sticky situation! However, just at the end of it, they wake up and realize that none of it was real. Refer to the previous "It was all a dream" challenges here or here for more information.

Part two: to be written on the wts site, this is a redux of the future character challenge. Please write a short drabble about a character of yours who will one day grace the halls of Sonora Academy!

Sorry this is late! I got my teacher's certificate yesterday so the class went out! This week's challenge is brought to you by Jamie Park's author! It's called:

Letter from home! Your character receives a letter from home (the letter-or at least parts of it-must be included in the post) and you write their reaction!

Have fun! And since it's Thanksgiving next week I'll post a second challenge in the coming days as a nice little holiday present.

I know I said this one would go up last night but things in my family have been really hectic lately due to a number of rather political reasons that I won't go into here.

Anyway, here is challenge #5 (since it's a holiday week that most people at this site celebrate):

Friends & family: Write a joint post of two of your own characters together. They can be family members come together to catch up, a pair of students who have never interacted before, or even family members who have never interacted before! Here's the catch!

You must then tag another author in the subject line. They can then reply with two of their characters to fulfill their portion of the challenge (they wouldn't have to tag another author in this case) or simply one of theirs and post their challenge tagging a different author somewhere else.

For those of you who do not have more than one character and can therefore not complete this challenge, please just tag an author who you have not written with frequently or at all, if there is one.

Have a lovely day. ♡

A little late, sorry! I didn't come up with a fresh one, but since midterm is coming up, I decided to bring back a wts drabble challenge from the past!

In true drabble style, write a wts post that contains one paragraph for each of your active* characters separated by a decorative barrier. Bonus points if each paragraph flows into the next one with ellipses. The point of this is just to show a glimpse into your character's everyday home life/thoughts so nothing exciting has to happen.

*Active as in currently at Sonora. If you want to add in characters who have left, that's cool too :)

If you have more than one character per year, you can just choose one character per year to participate :)

Have fun! ♡
