Winston Pierce

November 04, 2016 8:07 PM
Having been persuaded to join the archery club by his roommate, Victor, Winston was just getting comfortable with the pull and release of shooting arrows at targets when Aiden decided to mix things up. The game sounded interesting. Or at least, it would have if he was any good at archery.

As it stood now, he expected he'd be doing a lot of the answering today.

He wasn't picky in choosing a partner, mostly because he didn't really know anyone but his roommates very well so far, so nearly anyone fit the bill of relative stranger.

"Shall we do this?" he asked a person whose name he didn't even know (also pretty much everyone outside of Beginner classes, and even some people in them still). "I am Winston Pierce, of the New Hampshire Pierces."

Kit Reid

November 04, 2016 8:48 PM
Kit wanted to try everything and Archery was just another thing to try. She had never actually shot a bow and arrow before. In truth, she had never aimed at anything before. These sort of things were considered a male sport, but it was still fun to try so long as it wasn't in front of her mother!

Needing to find a partner since the rules were changed and they were to play a game, she was about to look for someone when someone found her first. "Hello, Winston Pierce o the New Hampshire Pierces. I'm Kit Reid of the Connecticut Reids," she said with a grin. "Yes, let's play. Do you want to go first?"

Winston smiled in relief when he heard her introduction. A good family, then. This game was already paying off. He'd seen her in his classes but hadn't yet put names to all of the Aladren girls and was glad to have this name down at least.

"Ladies first," he insisted, as his father always told him was proper (somehow it was a lot easier to allow Kit Reid of the Connecticut Reids go first than it was to allow his little sister to, so the invitation wasn't even grudging like it usually was). And because he believed in good sportsmanship, too, he added, "Good luck."

"Why, thank you," Kit said with a little bow, done for amusement. Standing with feet slightly apart, she pulled back the string as far as she could. She was fairly certain that she had the bullseye in sight, but that didn't mean much if the arrow didn't follow course. As she let her go, her arm jerked and the arrow sailed to the right and missed completely.

Her bow down, she turned towards Winston with a laugh. "Well, that didn't go very well. Perhaps, yours will be better?"

Winston bowed back, then took a step away to give her room to shoot. She . . . missed.

"Thanks," he answered, knocking his arrow and raising it to point toward the target. He aimed (not at the bulls-eye because he'd found that never worked, but a little bit above and to the left of it), held his breath a moment, then let go of the breath and the arrow at the same time.

The arrow flew, still low and to the right, as he apparently hadn't corrected his aim enough yet, but it at least hit the outer ring of the target. And stayed there. "Whoo!" he cheered, more happy that it had stuck than he was that he had won this round of the 'game'. He had won, though, so he got to ask a question.

"Um," he said, trying to think quickly. He hadn't anticipated winning, so he hadn't had one ready. "Do you like chicken?" he asked and then worried that she'd think it was a stupid question.

Ben Pierce

November 04, 2016 10:00 PM
Ben sat at the Pecari table in the Cascade Hall, munching absently on Wheaties - well, probably not actual Wheaties, but some kind of similar cereal like product that the elves doubtless put a lot of work into to satisfy the cravings of muggle raised children - and trying to plan out the next meeting of the Sports Club when his parents' owl landed on the table next to him.

"Hey, Gremmie," he greeted the bird fondly and offered him some of his bacon. The owl devoured that as Ben released the letter tied to his leg. "Sorry, no reply ready. Go on home, I promise I'll write tonight and send it by school owl, okay?"

He could have sworn the disapproving look he got from the creature was direct from his mom and that he would just sit there until Ben wrote a reply immediately, but then Gremlin just stole another piece of bacon and flew off.

Ben tore open the letter and read it, a big grin breaking across his face as he did so. It wasn't news that would keep. He turned to the nearest person and announced proudly, "I'm gonna be a big cousin!"

Kit

November 04, 2016 10:07 PM
Kit wasn't completely surprised that he didn't miss, but she was surprised that he wasn't closer to the bullseye. Either way, she had a question to answer, one that she wasn't expecting. Yet, she was glad that it was a simple one rather than being something completely personal right off the bat. "I do like chicken. Though, I don't like it every type of way. Chicken parm is my favorite. I don't like barbecue at all." She wanted to ask him if he liked it as well, but that wasn't the name of the game.

"My turn?" Testing a hypothesis, Kit aimed a little away from the bullseye before allowing her arrow to go. Yes! This time the arrow struck the target. Unfortunately, it still wasn't close to the middle. But it wasn't quite on the edge either. It was in the ring next to the edged one. "Yay!" She bounced a little in excitement.

He nodded in agreement with her as she answered his question, pleased that she seemed, at least to him, to be answering frankly, honestly, and with greater detail he'd expected. He liked it though, he felt like he was actually getting to know her a little bit.

"Chicken parm is excellent," he offered, not really liking the idea of not offering his own opinion on the matter, even if she hadn't asked. "But I like barbecue, too. The elves make it much better than my father does, though," he admitted, lowering his voice like he was telling her a huge secret.

When she hit the target on her next shot, doing better than his first one, he clapped and cheered right along with her. He gathered she was at least as new at this as he was, and any hit was a victory.

He took his turn, lining up his shot and aiming higher and more to the left than before. He loosed the arrow, and this time it flew clear over the target. Too high that time, apparently.

"I guess it's your question," he told Kit.

Jax Donovan

November 04, 2016 10:32 PM
Jax wasn't sleeping very well and he knew that the moon was only partially to blame this time. His mind was full of thoughts. Terrible and wonderful thoughts. Thoughts about a particular Pecari Sixth year that he could not stop thinking about and it was driving him crazy. He needed to figure out what was going on. Had she just been teasing him or did she still have feelings for him? And if she did still have feelings for him, what exactly would that mean?

The sixteen year old Aladren stood outside of Cascade Hall waiting for the brunette turned blonde to make her way to the hall for lunch. She had to eat at some point and since they no longer shared classes, meal times were really the only time he would get a chance to see her. Spotting the girl in question, Jax called out to her. “Hey, Joella! Can we talk?” He asked, not bothering with making small talk first.

Kit was thrilled that he offered up information on their discussion. She noted that he liked chicken parm and barbecue. Though, she was surprised that his father made anything. She knew how to dine in the finest restaurants more than she knew how to eat at home, but when they did, the house elves made the dishes. Following the rules though, she didn't actually ask so much as raise an eyebrow in question.

It was his turn and he missed. "Oh, no!" She cried. It wasn't that she minded asking the next question so much as she had hoped that he would have done better.

"Hmm, what to ask?" She said aloud. "What's your favorite color?"

Louis Valois

November 05, 2016 8:25 AM
It was a nice autumn day a few weeks into the start of term, and Louis could be found wandering the Labyrinth Gardens. Not wanting to be cooped up on such a day as this, he'd decided to go for a walk. He had considered seeing if Emmy-Lou was up for a stroll too, but he had a few things on his mind, and time alone was time to think.

Normally being at Sonora meant he could, for a large part, forget his problems and unhappiness at home. However, after the slight fiasco with Ingrid at the ball, this was no longer as easy. He'd meant to talk to her as soon as possible, but it was all too easy to chicken out, especially as he didn't really know what he wanted to say. He just knew that he couldn't leave things as they were. It didn't help that Ingrid seemed to have been avoiding him, which suggested that the worst case scenario was true.

Of course, it was just his luck to turn a corner and see the object of his thoughts right there in the gardens. For a minute, he was tempted to turn and flee, but no. If there was any chance of returning to his previous relationship with Ingrid, he still wanted to, and he knew he had to talk to her. He forced himself to walk confidently towards her, trying to work out what exactly he was going to say.

“Hey, Ingrid,” he called out as he got closer. “Can I have a word?”

[OOC: I assumed, from her OF post, that she'd probably have continued her plan of avoiding him!]

Finbar Scott

November 05, 2016 8:41 AM
Finn wasn't stupid, but he wasn't the most academic of students, and this was proved by how much he was struggling with one of his latest assignments. For some reason his research just didn't seem to coming together, and he found himself increasingly getting annoyed by the essay that just didn't want to be written.

Sighing in frustration, he closed the book in front of him and leaned back in his chair. He'd had enough, and he knew that he wasn't going to make much more progress even if he persevered. It would be better to come back to the essay later, once he'd cleared his head.

Hearing a noise behind him, he turned around to find another student. “Hi,” he said, not quite sure if they were there to talk to him or just, coincidentally, in the same location. “You don't need this book or anything, do you?”

Jax shrugged a little at her response. He wasn't really sure if it was serious, but he supposed that it would likely feel that way to him. He contemplated taking her hand or placing his hand on the small of her back to lead her to a private area, but he couldn't bring himself to do either as he felt she might not take it the correct way. Instead, he motioned for her to follow him.

Jax lifted the tapestry that hid the secret staircase and motioned for her to enter, lighting his wand for light as he went in. He stood in front of her in silence for a moment, feeling rather nervous. "I was wondering if you were still interested in me... in us?" He asked, feeling like an idiot for asking.

Madeleine Dautin

November 05, 2016 1:51 PM
So there had been a test. There had been a test and Madeleine hadn't studied. She knew her father would not be very pleased with her and she was a little ashamed to admit to Bastien what she had done, but there had been simply much better things to do the night before than study for a test in a class she wasn't even that fond of in the first place. There was important investigative things for her to do and, if she was being completely honest with herself, she had also forgotten that said test was even supposed to happen.

She gathered her quill back into her school bag and turned the paper in at the front of the room, dragging her feet a little as she left since she felt so down. She was certain that she'd missed at least a quarter of the questions that had been asked. She was blessed with a rather sharp brain and functional memory and so by taking the test slowly and trying not to panic she was assured that she had answered enough questions correct to achieve a passing grade. But Dautin's didn't simply pass, they excelled and so she was feeling pretty blue.

Since she wasn't really looking where she was going, she walked into the person in front of her and stumbled back a bit, nearly dropping her books as she did so. To Madeleine's mortification, it was Lily Spencer who she'd walked into, the only witch at the school so far who had captured Madeleine's imagination as someone she'd want to be friends with. "Oops," she said with a blush. "Wasn't really paying attention..." She leaned in conspiratorially. "I didn't study last night," she whispered in a hushed voice. "I was hunting for assassins."

Oddly, Kit's dismay at his miss made his own disappointment feel smaller. He still wasn't happy that his arrow had neatly sailed over top of the target entirely, but at least the commiseration eased away the sting of failure.

Then she asked her question, and he bit his lip in consideration. "You don't ask the easy ones, do you?" he asked rhetorically, more to buy a few seconds to consider his options than to avoid answering. "I'm not really partial to any of them particularly, but I'm going to go with blue. Not like Aladren blue," he added quickly, worried another Crotalus might overhear and fear House disloyalty, "but like the sky on a clear sunny day." Favorite colors didn't really need justification, but he thought his was pretty obvious just by its association.

Ayla Tremaine

November 05, 2016 3:12 PM
Ayla had decided long before she'd even arrived at Sonora that she wanted to have a large group of friends at school. A close knit group of girlfriends who would be there to support each other all through school and into adulthood. She was excited to see just how many girls there were in her year (though, she thought, that could also cause drama down the road when they dating), and even though most of them ended up being in Aladren together, Ayla was still hopeful that they could all be friends. She'd become fast friends with Kit Reid, and got on well with her roommate, but she still hadn't had a chance to really connect with the other girls. That needed to be corrected right away, in her opinion.

She decided that in lieu of some fancy get together, she'd just invite everyone to eat lunch with her at the Teppenpaw table. She wasn't against a more formal event, but it was a little short notice, and even the most successful party planners needed time to pull things off. She was wearing a kelly green skater dress with lace overlay, nude ballet flats and her hair was perfectly curled. She asked the rest of the girls to meet her a little later in the lunch period, so that hopefully things would have quieted down a little. She anxiously twirled a lock of her blonde hair around her finger as she waited for people to come. She had a feeling that at least Gwen and Kit wouldn't leave her hanging.

Her face lit up when the first girl joined her, at the very least, it appeared she wouldn't be eating alone after all. “Hi!” Ayla said brightly. “I'm so glad you could make it. How has your weekend been so far?”

Lily could care less about her marks, but she was doing exceptionally well in DADA. The latest exam she knew she'd done remarkably well, surprising even herself by the amount of knowledge she had retained. It was easy studying when she was intrigued by the subject.

As she was walking, thinking about what she was going to eat for dinner and how she'd fit in some time with Jozua, she bumped right into Madeleine Dautin. Though Lily was usually averse to the proper sort of witches who were disgusted by a bit of filth on their clothes or sweat glands, she liked Madeleine. Despite her frills and dresses, Madeleine could play pretend and anyone who could do that was immediately a kindred spirit.

"Did you find any?" asked Lily in response. "What'd you do with them?"

Farrah was putting back some of the returned books while she was walking through the Library. She wasn't working that evening, but whenever she saw some start to pile up because the assistants were busy, she felt inclined to help out. She supposed that made her a little more of a Teppenpaw than she might otherwise feel, but she also thought that it was just her love of books that compelled her to put them in their rightful place.

She was walking around one of the tables when she saw Finbar sitting alone at one, closing his book and leaning back. Farrah never really had the chance to really talk to him, but she figured he must be nice since he was a Teppenpaw and all. She accidentally bumped a chair as she walked around and it caught his attention. She smiled sheepishly at him, embarrassed for having caused any sort of stir. “Hi.” Farrah returned. “Oh no, sorry. I was just walking around putting the books back since I had the time.” Farrah explained. “I didn't mean to bother you.”

He knew Farrah, of course, as they were in the same year, but they hadn't really interacted much during their time at Sonora so far. It seemed rude, however, to just let her carry on without making some attempt at conversation.

“You didn't bother me, I was just stopping work anyway,” he explained, not wanting her to feel bad. “So...are you one of the library assistants, then?” There, he'd continued on the conversation and he didn't think it had been too bad a question.

Gia Donovan

November 05, 2016 4:51 PM
The Halloween Party seemed to be the Spirit Club's kickoff event before the Quidditch teams came together and started the season. Gia helped out Laila as best as she could with regards to getting everything put into place (Gia had no idea that Laila planned to ask other clubs to join in on it, but she supposed this was all meant for school unity). Gia had never been to a Halloween Party before, but she had heard about them before. She was excited to be a part of it both as a member of the spirit club and as a student of the school.

After helping Laila out with setting everything up, Gia left the MARS room to go put together the costume that she had created. She had read a horror story once about a possessed porcelain doll that went on to murder any adult that did not believe in it. It had terrified Gia for a long time when she was younger. Since Halloween was about scares, she thought it would be the perfect costume.

She had taken one of her old dresses and hemmed it up for that it was more of a mini dress. She made from tears into it to give it an illusion of being raggy. She pulled on some knee high white socks and black shoes. Her black hair was put into braided pigtails, leaving only her make up as the last part to be completed. The makeup had taken several days of practice, but she thought she had done a pretty decent job of making the cracks look realistic and her eyes doll like. But, it would just have to wait until people saw her to know for sure.

Now that her look was completed, Gia left the dorms as quickly as possible so that she didn't leave Laila alone for too long. Upon entering the room though, Gia thought the space looked amazing having now seen it with fresher eyes. She grinned widely around at the arriving guests before making her way around to a spot. Now that she was a part of a Halloween party, she had no idea what to do next.

She was relieved to hear that she hadn't bothered him, which is something Farrah was always self-conscious about. Being one of those girls who awkwardly stood off to the side wanting to participate but afraid to, she was always aware of the fact that her presence might alone cause issues for people. “Oh good.” She replied. “I mean, about not bothering you.” She added, she didn't know if his work was finished or not for her to comment on that.

Farrah gave a small laugh, mostly out of embarrassment for herself as she admitted this next part to him. “I am but I'm not actually working tonight.” She advised. “I just saw the stack of returns and everyone else was busy, so I thought I'd just help out and put them back.” Saying it out loud made her feel even more pathetic. She should have just lied and said that she was working. “Um, what are you working on?” She asked, changing the subject.

Victor Callahan

November 05, 2016 5:19 PM
Normally Halloween wasn't the most exciting holiday in Victor's calendar. His parents would either have a dinner party (which was quite fun, provided he got some attention and so long as there were other kids there) or go to an event somewhere else (less fun for Victor, who just got to stay at home and eat themed food with Jehan). His parents didn't often take him to events yet, thinking he was really a bit too young, but he'd been promised he could start going to more balls soon.

However, now he was at Sonora and there was a real Halloween party to go to! Forget adult balls, this party had cakes and, even better, costumes! Victor was, of course, dressed up as a prince, feeling rather handsome and enjoying the fact that he had a crown and a sword (which, sadly, wasn't real, but you couldn't have everything). He'd been tempted to go for something a little bit scarier, but couldn't resist having a sword. Besides, princes were awesome! They got to have adventures and get in fights and save damsels in distress!

The first stop for Victor was, of course, the cake stall. Dinner seemed like ages ago now! There were lots of tasty looking cakes to choose from, and he was sure he'd have to return later. Cake in hand, he wandered around the room, looking at the decorations and keeping an eye out for someone he knew. Or, he supposed, someone he didn't know but looked cool. He was happy to talk to almost anyone, really.

However, he soon spotted Ayla, so made his way over to talk to her. He liked Ayla. She was pretty, good fun, from a good family, and did he mention she was pretty?

“Hi Ayla! You look great,” he complimented her, grinning excitedly at her. He really loved parties! “Enjoying the party?”

Joella found her heart beating a little faster as she followed Jax behind the tapestry, although she wasn't sure why... okay maybe she was but she had to stop thinking like that.

She waited for him to speak and when he did, his words were a surprise. Joella wasn't sure how to respond. Over the summer her relationship with Darius had developed, even if it was just a no strings attached affair, but the moment she'd seen Jax again she had known that yes she did still like him.

Yet admitting that to the Aladren now was something she was hesitant to do. She took a moment to respond, mulling his question over in her mind not because she didn't know the answer but because she wasn't sure how truthful she should be.

"I-" she faltered at her first attempt. "I, um, yeah..." Joella trailed off, looking up at him and trying not to blush. Why was he asking? "I know you- you're not but it's, it's not really something I can just switch off." She wished she hadn't been so honest but something about being alone with Jax in this way made her feel like she could say things she wouldn't normally say.

Farrah Welsh

November 05, 2016 6:09 PM
Farrah had been to all of two Halloween Parties in her life. One of them did not count since it had been one of her parents' family friends and she had to sit there and endure her parents talking to adults for a full three hours. There had been other kids there, but Farrah didn't know them and none of them seemed all too keen to speak with her, so she kept quiet and tried to keep her little sister, Corra, in line. That was never really easy to do. The second party she had ever been to had been her best friend's back home. Only about fifteen people showed up (some of them her friend's cousins), but it had still ended up being a lot of fun.

When Laila had first mentioned the party during their initial Spirit Club meeting, Farrah had written home to her mother asking for a costume to wear. It had taken her mother awhile to decide on one (apparently her mother was torn between keeping her a little girl and making her wear something cute, or letting her be a teenager by wearing something less childish but still cute) so the costume had only arrived a week or so before the party. Farrah groaned when she realized what it was that her mother picked out. The Tin Man. Or rather, Tin Lady. Wizard of Oz was her mother's favorite movies so of course she would pick this. At least it wasn't Dorothy or The Lion. Or worse, the Flying Monkey. And her mother had the sort of humor where she would have sent the Wicked Witch costume for a laugh.

Farrah helped set up for the party, wanting to pull her own wait with the group and she would help with the clean up too. She had been in good spirits about it all, but now that she was wearing the costume, which felt slightly too short and the hat making her feel dumb, she wasn't so sure about it. Would Georgia come? She hadn't seemed all that into any of this. What about Kellen? He didn't seem all that into people in general. Would anyone even get the costume?

She nervously chewed on her lower lip as she stood, trying to decide if her stomach was up for her eating desserts or not, when someone approached her. She smiled nervously, “Hey, enjoying the party so far?” She asked awkwardly.

Ayla Tremaine

November 05, 2016 6:19 PM
The Halloween Party was Ayla's first big event as a Sonoran. It was also her first baking club event, fundraising committee event, and spirit club soiree. It was a really busy time for the first year, but she was going to be 12 in a few weeks, and she figured she could manage. Thankfully, she hadn't forgotten to send a letter home requesting a costume, otherwise the entire event would have gone to pot. After baking, and setting up the Fundraising booth, Ayla finally got to go get ready for the party. She'd volunteered to help with take down of the decorations later, as she had so many other things she was involved with, but she was a little sad she didn't get to help put them up. That was the fun part, after all, but someone had to help clean up too, and she was happy to help however she could.

Finally, all the hard work had paid off, and it was time to head down to the party in the MARS room. Ayla had settled on going as a fawn, and had received a lot of help from her mother. The dress she wore was varying shades of cream and brown, and was composed of bits of upcycled lace, and other types of fabric. It looked a bit tatty, but the artistry used to reclaim fabric and compose an entirely new garment was really kind of beautiful in a way. It had thin straps, a sweetheart neckline and was very flowy. The dress hit Ayla at the knee and her shoes were strappy sandals that were charmed to look like hooves.

Her long blonde hair was in wild waves, with a braid across the front, from one side to the other. She wore a floral crown that had realistic looking ears and an stick antlers attached, and had been practicing to get the make-up just right. Once satisfied, she returned to the party, excited to see that people were showing up and it looked like the spirit club had managed to pull it all off. She was on her way to the snack table when she was approached by a very handsome prince. Ayla grinned as Victor complimented her, glad for the color on her cheeks as it was likely to camouflage the fact she was blushing.

“Hi Victor! Thank you! You look rather dashing yourself.” She added, admiring his costume and trying not to wonder if this was some kind of sign that he was dressed as a prince. “Yes, I am so far, but it's definitely better with friends, and cupcakes.” She added. “How about you? As a member of the spirit club, thank you for coming!”

Jax had never felt his heart beat quite this fast before but here he was feeling really stupid for bringing this up but also really excited at the prospects of what it could mean if things went the way he hoped. Of course, she could have very well have moved on from him and he would just have to deal with it. And he would. He didn't know how exactly since she plagued his mind all the time, but he would figure it out.

”I, um, yeah..”

There, he had her answer and it was the one that he would hope to have. He frowned though, when she continued to respond. He thought he had been clear to her last term that he did like her? Maybe he had just come off wrong… “No, that's not what I mean.” He quickly said. He stepped closer to her even though they were already in a small space to begin with. “I couldn't be in a relationship. I am not very good with that. But I do have feelings for you.” He admitted to her. He hesitantly reached up to brush her hair behind her ear.

Farrah was having a bad day today. Nothing seemed to be going the way she had anticipated it going. Everything was just going to hell in a hand basket for her and she felt like she was having a complete meltdown! First they had to have partners in Charms, but no one seemed to want to be her partner (or no one approached her anyway, she had to finally ask a first year to be her partner), and then she spilled juice on herself at lunch, leaving a stain on her dress robes, and now they just finished Potions and her potion hadn't turned the final color that it was supposed to so she knew she wouldn't get a very good grade for it.

Feeling like a complete idiot and missing her mom who would always make her feel better whenever her days were bad, Farrah quickly ran in the opposite direction of everyone else who were heading to Defense so that she could have a moment alone. She didn't know why she was feeling so down all the time but she felt like it was getting worse.

Farrah leaned against the wall in the empty corridor and sniffled. She was only alone for a few short minutes however, because she heard the distinct sound of footsteps coming closer to her. Quickly wiping her cheeks with her hand and hoped she didn't look as pathetic as she felt as she turned to face the person who had caught her.

Kellen Mormont

Kellen wasn't the best with his emotions, let alone anyone else's. However, he couldn't help but notice when one of his only friends was headed in the opposite direction of their next class. He assumed she could be headed for the bathroom, but she wasn't headed that way either. Weird.

Deciding to investigate, he followed her, but not too closely. He paused for a moment before rounding the corner in time to see his friend dry her cheeks. He didn't know what to say at that moment, so he did what he knew she would do, and wrapped his arms around her.

"What happened?" He asked, with concern in his grey blue eyes as he slowly released her from the hug.

Kit's favorite color was not blue, but she approved of Winston's choice of sky blue. "Good choice. I like when there are clouds and you see all the shapes they make." She did that sometimes at their estate when her mother wasn't around to see her laying on the grass.

It was her turn next. She adjusted again and came even closer to the middle. She was so proud of how well she was doing.

It was Kellen. Farrah was both relieved and embarrassed to find her friend standing in front of her. Her emotions became even more convoluted when he pulled her into a hug. She must have really looked terrible if Kellen was hugging her.

Farrah sniffled again, looking down at the floor when he released her from the hug. She appreciated the gesture he provided as she was sure he didn't normally go around hugging people. She could only shrug at his question though. "I don't know. I'm just having a bad day and I just didn't want anyone to see me." Farrah admitted.

“I guess it's a good thing no one did then.” Kellen added as he ran a hand through his dark hair. He didn't like seeing Farrah hurting, but wasn't sure how to fix it, and being the problem solver that he was, he wracked his brain for a solution.

“Are you going to be ok?” He asked, noticing that the traffic in the adjacent halls was dying down, which meant that class wasn't far off. “Or...do you want to blow off class for the rest of the day?” It gave Kellen a weird feeling in his stomach to say those words, he was never one to intentionally miss a class, but sometimes you just needed a break. And he planned to be by Farrah's side (if she wanted, of course) if that's what she needed.

Farrah

November 05, 2016 9:41 PM
She nodded, although Kellen had obviously seen her upset and even though they were basically best friends, she didn't really want him to have seen her in this state. She would have felt the same if it had been Georgia who had found her. Farrah wanted to help her friends when they were in need but she never wanted to appear weak r vulnerable in front of them. She knew that it was weird.

Farrah gave him a meek smile when he offered to ditch class. Farrah had never thought about skipping class before; she knew the guilt of it and the fear of missing something important would be too much for her to ever consider it. She didn't even like taking sick days! "That's kind of you, but I don't want you to get into trouble because of me."

Kellen shrugged. “I can't really imagine anyone I'd rather had detention with if I did.” Truthfully, he hated the idea of detention. He didn't like getting in trouble at all, which was part of the reason the past summer had been so traumatic for him. It didn't appear that skipping was actually on the table though, not that he was surprised. He and Farrah had a lot in common, he wouldn't be surprised if she felt the same way.

“Well, since we're going to class after all, I'm ready when you are.” He said with a smile, offering her his arm like an old timey gentleman. “Do you want to partner up with me? Assuming we don't have to work with first years today?”

Farrah gave him a skeptical look. She knew as well as anyone else that no Aladren would ever be okay with having detention, even if it were for a good reason like helping a friend. Besides, Farrah knew that if word of her serving detention for skipping class ever got around to her parents, she would be grounded for life.

She gave a little giggle when Kellen offered up his arm for her to take. She saw this happen in the movies a lot but she didn't think there would be a moment in her life where the gesture would be given to her. Farrah's eyes lit up at his question as she slipped her arm through his, "Yes, of course!" She eagerly agreed. "I hate trying to find a partner; no one ever wants to work with me."

Kit Reid

November 05, 2016 11:19 PM
In her head, Kit had put costume and Halloween to equal masquerade. She had read about masquerades in one of her books and had decided that she would be like the girl in the book. She had written home to her mother and had been excited when the package arrived with her outfit for the party in it. Inside had been a rose dress that was fitted at the bodice with a full length skirt. Underneath was cream colored lace that peaked out in an hour glass shape. The sleeves were puffed at the shoulders and tapered down to her hands. Gold trim lay in an intricate pattern all around the pink including where it cinched slightly above her waist. With it, there was a matching mask with jewels and feathers that would cover the upper half of her face. Since it was attached to a stick, she could remove it easily if she wanted or needed to.

The day of the party she had hurried to get ready after helping out with Spirit Club. Her dress was on and looked perfect. She had pulled most of her hair up onto her head, loosely, allowing some of the curls to cascade around her face freely. She normally wore her long hair straight, but had opted for a different style for this particular occasion. She wore little jewelry as not to distract from the mask, but had put some jeweled pins in her hair so that they sparkled when she moved. All in all, she was very satisfied with her appearance. She just hoped that she looked right for a party. If nothing else, she, at least, felt elegant and grownup.

Once at the party, she knew she had made the right decision in her outfit. She felt like a mysterious princess, which was her intention. Deciding to step back for a moment and check out everyone's costumes, not to mention try to figure out the ones that had masks, she stepped near the desserts when she heard a voice. Recognizing the other girl, she gave a grin, “Hi, Farrah. I haven't really had a chance to scope everything, but I think it looks great and everyone seems to be having fun. What about you? Having a good time?” Kit hoped so. She didn't know the other girl too well, but maybe they would get a chance to talk now. Continuing, she complimented, “You're costume looks awesome.”

Farrah

November 05, 2016 11:32 PM
Farrah wanted to run away. The girl whom she had started to talk to had a costume with such an intricate design and looked so well put together that Farrah felt like such a fraud in her costume. What had she been thinking? Or rather, what had her mother been thinking? She was going to school with a bunch of Pureblood rich kids, they wouldn't know Wizard of Oz. Of course they would buy elegant dresses with beautiful face masks. Ugh.

The girl said her name and Farrah felt surprised that she knew the girl underneath it. Who did she know that would wear this? Her voice was vaguely familiar but she didn't place it. She realized now how much she depended on visuals. "I haven't really scoped it out either, honestly." Farrah admitted. "I'm hoping my friends come though. I'm sorry, but your mask is throwing me off. I have no idea who I'm talking to." Farrah commented wit a slight laugh at how silly that was.

Kit Reid

November 05, 2016 11:37 PM
Kit was thrilled at Ayla's invitation for a girls' lunch. She wanted to get to know all the other girls. Of course, she had a slight advantage that the majority were in Aladren much like herself, but she still didn't really know anyone beyond that (except Ayla who she already considered a best friend.). She also liked Amelia quite a bit and thought that they would be good friends. Hopefully, this lunch would bring others out to meet and they could begin building friendships.

Though, she also knew that there was a possibility that it could go the other way. She had the best of hopes and she didn't want to crush Ayla's by any means, but sometimes, personalities could clash and instead of making friends, there could be enemies instead. However, she really hoped that wouldn't be the case, especially since her friend was one of the nicest people that she had met here. She really couldn't see anyone not liking her. But it might not even be that they didn't not like her, it could be that they didn't like her or one of the other girls. She really didn't know how everyone else was fairing with roommates. Honestly, she wasn't even sure if Emerald was fairing that well with them. She didn't have any issue with the girl, but she seemed more reserved than she was and she had a hard time telling if the other girl liked her or not. Time would tell either way.

Regardless, she was not about to let Ayla down and had made sure to look her very best. Though, she seemed to think that thought every day since every day she thought what she had on was the perfect outfit. Today, she wore a proper black skirt with a white blouse that had a black line running along either side of the black buttons. Around the collar, she had on a cute black tie that looked nearly like a bow. She had tucked her blonde hair back with a matching headband. She looked rather ladylike for their first girls' lunch.

Finding Ayla, she headed immediately over to her. “Hi!” She grinned at her friend. “My weekend had been fabulous! I have much to tell you and I'm sure you have the same. Am I the first to arrive?” Still talking, she sat down in the seat next to Ayla. In a hushed tone, she said, “I have already met a couple of the wonderful boys in our year and yes, I said, our year. I didn't think that they would be as mature as they are, but I was wrong. How has your weekend been?”

November 05, 2016 11:52 PM
"Oh," Kit laughed, not realizing that no one could tell who she was. She lowered her mask. "Kit Reid of the Connecticut Reids. We're in Spirit Club together. I'm usually with my best friend, Ayla. We're both first years and, at least, I haven't had much chance to get to know anyone in the other years. Honestly, I'm still getting to know everyone in my year. Besides, you might not have even noticed me anyhow since you get to be a cool older student. You probably know everyone!"

"So, who are you waiting for?" She craned her neck as if she would know any of the people that Farrah did. She wasn't in with the upper years. Hopefully, she would eventually be, but that was a worry for another night. "I see Ayla. She's talking to a boy!" She said this excitedly, happy for Ayla. She was pretty sure that Ayla was going to be the first one with a boyfriend out of their entire year. Lucky girl! A thought occurred to her. Parties, boys, girls, mixing. She glanced over curiously at Farrah. "Are you waiting for a boy?"

Ayla

November 06, 2016 2:10 AM
Ayla should have known that Kit would be one of the first to arrive, it just seemed very much like the Aladren to her, and she was happy for it. She was already proving to be an invaluable friend. Even if no one else decided to show up (which she really hoped wouldn't be the case), Ayla knew that she and Kit would at least have a good chat, and a nice lunch.

"Good, I'm glad to hear it." Ayla said with a smile as Kit sat down beside her. She couldn't help the laugh that escaped her lips when Kit mentioned she had a lot to tell her, and she nodded in agreement. They definitely had clubs, class and even boys to catch up on. "You are indeed the first, and I'm really glad to see you! You look amazing by the way, I love your top."

The Teppenpaw laughed when Kit mentioned the boys she'd met. She remembered how skeptical they had both been at orientation, but so far the males in their class were definitely exceeding her expectations. "I'm glad you were wrong on that account, we'll need to compare notes." She said with a dimpled smile.

"So far the weekend has been good, and it'll be so much better if the other girls show up. I'm going to be a little disappointed if they don't. It's not like I went out of my way to set up something special, but I don't want my first gathering to be a failure, you know?" She added with a shrug.

Lily Spencer

November 06, 2016 2:12 AM
Lily had taken good care to look fantastic for her first Hallowe'en party. She had taken the liberty of chopping her brown hair short, so short it was at the same length as her brother's. Her mum would be beyond horrified whence she returned home, but Lily didn't care. It was a choppy cut, but she loved it. She was wearing black robes, had slicked back her hair and wore a very neat moustache on her upper lip. Her stiff back and appraising eyes, she hoped, would convey her impersonation of Mortimer Brockert, their ‘beloved' Headmaster. It was comical on her small frame, wearing a moustache, large robes and blinking her large brown eyes. She thought it was brilliant and she hoped her peers would agree.

Fancy dress was the perfect excuse to go mental, and Lily certainly had. She hoped to find Jozua because she liked spending time with him every day (was that considered a needy friend? She didn't know), but making new friends was never bad.

It was lovely inside. Lily was especially looking forward to carving pumpkins as that was a tradition her family had forgone when Charlotte had left for school. She grabbed a biscuit and turned to one of her peers. “Can you guess what I am?” she asked, looking down her nose at them in false condescension.

Jack Spencer

November 06, 2016 2:13 AM
The library was pleasant on days like these: there weren't rambunctious classmates attempting to distract every diligent student in their vicinity, books were in order and all the chairs were pushed in nicely. It was pleasant, certainly, but oh so dull. Jack was supposed to be on duty, but for once he was stuck in the shelves, perusing through the fiction section. Though he prided himself in being an intelligent, no-nonsense sort of wizard, he had a special affinity for mystery books as well as one genre that he considered his deepest, darkest secret.

Alone in the stacks, Jack was reading the first chapter of a book entitled, The Notebook, Muggle literature that he assumed had once been included in Muggle Studies. Regardless of its origin, the story was already captivating. As soon as he heard a noise, Jack shut the book and shoved it into the closest shelf he could find, disturbing the row of books on the other side, and whirled around to face the culprit. “Um, can I help you?” he asked.

Salali Bly

November 06, 2016 2:27 AM
Salali had been super excited to receive invitation from Ayla Tremaine to have a girls' lunch. She was very much looking to make new friends at their new school, where everyone, even those who had gotten to grow up with magic around, arrived out of their element and generally alone. Some people maybe knew other students if they had siblings around--a thought that made Salali miss her own sibling, whom she doubted she would ever see again--but for the most part, there was unbearable solitude.

She found two girls sitting together where she thought she was meant to go, and, assuming one was Ayla, scurried over to them. “Hello!” she beamed happily, sitting down next to the one she thought was Ayla. (Fortunately for her, it was a 50-50 bet, and her educated guess was correct) “Thank you for inviting me today!”

“Yes, thank you very much.” Florence had moved in behind Kit just as she heard this girl, Salali Bly, she thought, thank Ayla for the invitation. She sat beside her roommate and smiled at the three other girls. Ayla was a Teppenpaw, and Salali was a Pecari. Combined with the two Aladrens, they had some representation from every House who would be sending some, since there were no girls in Crotalus for their year.

“Hopefully the other girls in our class will be as appreciative and join us soon,” said Flo with a smile. “This was such a great idea, Ayla.”

Kellen

Kellen was glad that he could at least make Farrah laugh a little. He thought she had a pretty smile, and it was definitely preferable to tears.

"I know what you mean. It's always awkward when you have to work with someone you don't really know. Like, we have a reputation to uphold as Aladren, or it feels like we do. So when you get paired with someone random, there's this weird pressure to have the right answers, and not screw up. And on the same token, because we're supposed to be brilliant, it's a little hurtful to not get picked, like there's something wrong with you. I don't know if any of that makes sense. That's just how I feel anyway." Kellen said with a shrug as he started towards the Defense Against the Dark Arts Class with Farrah on his arm.

"I just hope you know, that I'll always work with you, if it's possible, you know? You worked with me back when I didn't know anyone. It's the least I can do. Plus, I kind of like you." As soon as the words left his mouth, Kellen felt his ears turn red. He knew that it could be taken in a direction that he didn't necessarily mean it, but he also didn't not mean it. He DID like Farrah, she was a really good friend. She was kind, caring, smart, and nerdy. All the things he could ever want in someone, but they were 12. It wasn't like he could take it back either. He never wanted her to feel disliked either. Instead, he decided to just let it hang out there, and hopped for the best.

Ayla was so excited when two more girls showed up. Maybe she was going to pull this off after all! Now they were just waiting for the other half of their classmates. Still, this wasn't a terrible turn out.

"Any time, I'm so glad we're finally able to all get together. I appreciate you both coming." She said with a smile when Flo and Salali joined her and Kit. "I certainly hope so." She said in reply to Florence. "Thank you! I really hope that we all get along and can be friends. I know that's very Teppenpaw of me." She added, wrinkling her nose a little. She had definitely gotten used to the fact that she probably did belong in the house she'd been sorted in to, despite her initial thoughts. But was there really anything wrong with being nice?

Ingrid

November 06, 2016 3:12 AM
Ingrid loved the outdoors. She loved to walk in it, to climb trees, to splash around in lakes… Any kind of outdoors was good by her. And subsequently, when she didn't have homework or Quidditch practice, it was usually where she was to be found. Sonora's lack of decent trees meant she was sometimes tackling climbing walls in the sports rooms instead, but today had been crisp and pleasant and she'd decided to take a walk.

So, however, had a certain someone else. Her mother's advice had been not to shut Louis out totally, in case it was just all talk and bravado, but not to cultivate too close a link with him. As such, she had been friendly and civil when she'd had to be but hadn't actively sought his company.

“Sure,” she nodded, when he asked for a word. She really wasn't sure she wanted to get into a hold big thing with him, as she couldn't really see a good way for this to go, but she didn't really have a choice.

OOC - sure. As noted, she's not going out of her way or obviously "not speaking to him," she's just not seeking him out.

Jemima Wolseithcrafte

November 06, 2016 3:27 AM
Jemima was excited for the Hallowe'en party. Against her better judgement of not over-subscribing herself, she was really enjoying being part of spirit club. Not one to do craft projects by half, she had spent longer than she probably should have on her costume. She'd sought advice, and gathered the impression that the idea was sort of to dress as something scary, but really most people just went with whatever. The second one had given her more scope for things she would enjoy dressing as. All in white, and with little cardboard cuffs around her feet and ankles, and a carefully constructed three dimensional paper head, she was doing a pretty good job of looking like a unicorn - albeit a strangely upright one.

On joining the party, she saw Gia standing over at the edge. Gia was one of those girls who she didn't really know super well - they just seemed to move in different crowds - although there had been times where they'd be involved in the same things, like when they'd done the fashion show, or now the spirit club.

“Hi Gia,” she smiled, tilting up the mask so Gia could see who she was talking to. “I like your outfit. Or, um, am I meant to tell you look scary?” Gia definitely seemed to be going more for the creep factor than she was but it wasn't usually a complement to tell people that.

Ayla Tremaine

November 06, 2016 3:30 AM
Focusing on things like studying really didn't seem like any fun as far as Ayla was concerned. It therefore, wasn't super surprising when a Defense test came up and caught the young Teppenpaw by surprise. Her parents didn't expect her to have perfect marks, but effort was definitely required. This time, however, she'd fallen short of even her own standards. Maybe it was all of the club activities recently, or the fact that she was determined to meet and be friends with everyone in her year. No matter the reason, the exam had happened, and now the young witch was preparing for the aftermath.

She wasn't the kind of person who liked to be upset in public--she had an image to maintain. A happy go-lucky, bubbly, outgoing image. At the moment though, she was feeling a little down on herself. Half of the girls in her year were Aladren, which basically made her feel dumb already. Then she had to go and do something as stupid as neglect a test! Sure, she had her looks and personality to fall back on in a pinch, but the last thing she wanted was to be seen as being an empty headed blonde. She needed to be the total package if she planned on marrying into a good family.

Ayla considered just going up to the dormitories and doing a face masque to help herself feel better, but there were somethings that even skincare couldn't fix. Instead she decided to head to the music room to get some rehearsal time in. Besides, when you're sad, sometimes you just need some equally depressing accompaniment. She put on her best face as she made her way through the school, stopping to say ‘hi' to the occasional portrait, or wave to people she knew as she passed by. No one was going to know she wasn't her usual, perky self if she could help it.

As soon as she closed the MARS room door behind her, the young witch let out a heavy sigh. It was one test…how bad could it be, really? Still, Ayla didn't want to think about it, and music was the best way to work through your feelings in her opinion. Plus, if she planned to impress Louis Valois with her amazing violin skills, she was going to need a lot of practice. She shuffled through a stack of sheet music, searching until she found something she could play, and then readied her instrument--the worlds smallest violin.

She couldn't believe her ears. He had feelings for her? Did he want something to happen between them now? What had changed his mind?

"You, you do?" She whispered softly but there was an element of surprise and disbelief in her voice.

And then he touched her, a simple brushing her hair behind her ear. Her hand caught his without even thinking and the way she looked up at him, not saying anything, it was clear that she wanted him to kiss her... Whether or not he would, well that would tell her where his feelings were at.

Jamie Park

November 06, 2016 3:38 AM
How was he a seventh year? And why, so very early in the year, was everyone telling him he had to decide what he wanted to do after school? His mom kept sending college prospectuses and information about apprenticeships and notes on the application deadlines and they were all really soon.

He had decided to bury his problems in bacon. Because bacon was a simple decision which always made sense.

He sat at the breakfast table with a nice hearty breakfast. He wanted a life that involved good food and fun people and those were the only things he could see mattering for the foreseeable future, but apparently that wasn't a valid choice.

“Hey,” he nodded, as someone sat down near him. “Do you know what you're going to do with your life? Warning, if it's a cool idea, I'm totally stealing it.”

She sensed it from across the room, her eyes narrowing in on the Pecari breakfast table. More specfically, on Jamie Park. Even more specifically, on Jamie Park's breakfast: a stack of bacon.

Sammy made her way across the Hall, her eyes on the prize. Of course, she scooped up her own plate of similarly bacon-dominated breakfast on the way over, but if she could just find a way to mooch his too, that was juuuust fine with her. She was hoping for a nice tease along the way, but to her surprise, as she sat down, he addressed her relative seriousness in an inquiry.

“Not a clue,” she answered solemnly, knowing when to switch off the jokes. “Sorry. That's a huge decision.” Sammy was instantly grateful that she wasn't yet a seventh year like Jamie, with much more leeway than he had. “You do still have some time, though,” she added. “You could just pick a school you like and decide on a major later.”

So. He had her attention, and what was he going to say now? He'd spent so long thinking this over, but what came out of his mouth was completely spontaneous.

“I know it was a while ago, but I'm sorry we had that...disagreement at the ball,” he said. The statement was perfectly true, even if not quite in the way Ingrid might assume. However, his next sentence was sure to dispel any ambiguity.

“I still stand to what I said, though,” he continued. “I think our parents have got it wrong. It doesn't make sense for blood status to be something that matters.”

And there, he'd said it, he'd laid out his position in a way he'd been to cowardly to do at the ball. But how would Ingrid react? Louis wanted to know exactly how things stood between them. Since the end of last term he'd been thinking over their relationship, and he knew that, so long as Ingrid didn't have a problem with his viewpoint, he wanted to at least be friends. However, he wasn't so confident that she did.

Dustin was grumpy. Not that it was a new or unknown state for him to be in, as he was almost always grumpy in some way, shape, or form, but still the fact remained. He was grumpy.

They were just a handful of weeks into the school year, and already, he was sick of having his little sister around. Truthfully, the fourth year did his love all of his younger siblings, but Florence was irratating to be around so much, especially since she'd been placed, to his horror, in his own House.

That meant he couldn't really hang around his Common Room too much or else she'd be pestering him, asking questions he didn't feel like answering or just wanting to spend time with him. So instead, he currently just wandered through the school, paying more attention to his own thoughts on grumpiness than to where he was going. As a result, he collided with someone. It wasn't hard enough to cause much more damage than wounded pide, but he did have to backpedal to remain upright. “Sorry about that,” he mumbled sheepishly, taking a few cautious steps back in the person's direction, wanting to be sure they hadn't gotten it worse than he had. “Are you alright?”

However, he did have a sword, a fact that didn't seem likely to lose its charm anytime soon. Victor didn't generally pay much attention to clothes, but he had noticed that Ayla always looked very...oh, he didn't know how to describe it, but he liked how she always looked.

Victor appreciated being referred to as ‘dashing'. Something about spending time with Ayla always made him feel more confident and adventurous. And was she referring to him as a friend? He certainly hoped so. He was tempted to ask her to dance, but wasn't sure that he wanted to be one of the first dancing, especially as his dance skills weren't the best, despite being passable due to a lot of practise. His mother had always insisted that her boys knew how to dance, but it wasn't really something that came naturally to Victor.

“The cakes are pretty good,” he agreed, thinking back to the one he'd had. It would probably be time for a refuel vaguely soon. “Wait, you were one of the people who organised all of this? That's cool!” He was rather impressed by the idea. Certainly he'd have no idea where to begin.

Ayla

November 06, 2016 5:13 AM
“I'm glad you think so!” Ayla said cheerfully. Admittedly, she'd only had a hand in a portion of the baking, but she was pretty proud of her achievements, even if her icing piping needed more work. “I helped bake the pumpkin ones. With the cream cheese frosting and the little pumpkin candies on top. So, if you haven't had one, I recommend them. Unless you hate pumpkin, or cream cheese. And if they are horrible, I'll deny I had anything to do with them.” She said with a dimpled smile. She wasn't sure if it was because of the party, all the sugar she'd ingested that night, or being around Victor, but Ayla was really happy. She suspected it was a combination.

“I didn't help with decorating, as I was busy baking and helping set up the fundraising booth earlier, but I'm in the group that did! My spirit squad responsibility tonight is to help clean up afterward.” She said with a shrug. Someday she hoped to be the brains behind something as cool as the Halloween party, since throwing successful gatherings was one of those skills that a society lady needed to have. Until then, she was content to be a minion and help wherever she was needed.

She was having a hard time restraining herself. It often happened when she was really excited or happy, she tended to ramble and ask a lot of rapid fire questions. Her mother had tried to break her of the habit, but on occasion she still slipped. It wasn't like mother was around to police her anyway. Ayla bit her bottom lip as she considered to ask about Victor's costume. Being nosey wasn't ladylike, but she considered him a friend, so she felt comfortable letting herself go a little. Maybe that was bad form, but they were kids in costumes at a Halloween party. She could be a proper lady tomorrow.

"So why a prince? And, is the sword real?" She asked with curious smile.

Jax

November 06, 2016 8:13 AM
A smirk appeared on his face when she seemed generally surprised by his admittance. His same cool and seemingly indifferent smirk that sometimes made itself present whenever he was amused by something. It was clear that she hadn't believed him last year. Did that mean he had to work hard to prove it?

By the look on her face as she held onto his hand, he knew that she was somewhat on the same page as him. The hand she was holding unfolded to rest against her cheek while his free hand went around her waist and rested against the small of her back. He pulled himself closer to her and leaned down, pressing his lips to hers in a slightly more aggressive manner than he had intended. He would only deepen the kiss when she was willing to invite him to do so.

Farrah

November 06, 2016 8:34 AM
Farrah nodded along to what Kellen was saying. She didn't specifically have that fear or pressure when working with someone. Her pressure was more along the lines of 'don't make a fool of yourself' (however that would end up being) and 'don't screw this up for your partner'. She supposed it was just a more vague issue than Kellen's. She certainly had pressure to do everything correctly, but that wasn't because of having a partner but because she felt like she had to do this right or else she might get kicked out of Magic school.

"In my last school, unless I had a friend in class with me, people didn't like to work with me because I was picked on and they didn't want to be associated with that. When people here don't want to be my partner, it's like that all over again, you know?" Farrah admitted. She thought that Georgia would understand that, she wasn't sure if Kellen would, but he had been picked on by his brother, so maybe he would.

"Oh just 'kind of'?" Farrah teased, not taking his comment to be anything more than just friendly. It hadn't occurred yet to Farrah that there could be any further feelings between two people, not yet anyway. "I like you too." She added because she did and didn't see the harm in expressing that. "Thank you, by the way, for making me feel better and for wanting to be my partner." Farrah commented, smiling happily (although still a bit subdued) at him.

Farrah

November 06, 2016 8:45 AM
Farrah almost burst out laughing when Kit referenced her as being a 'cool older student'. Did she not know who Farrah was? She was the awkward, shy, alien looking girl who's roommate was actually popular and therefore, probably spoiling everyone's opinion of Farrah into some twisted thing. But she refrained because of how Kit introduced herself, making her one of those Purebloods that Farrah was always nervous about. Another reason why Farrah wasn't a 'cool older student' because she wasn't Pure and therefore, not enough pull to have people notice her.

"It's nice to meet you formally, Kit." Farrah commented. She knew who she was with the mask off. She was the girl who was quick to answer in class and she always saw her around the library and the Aladren Common Rooms. She wasn't sure who Ayla was though, but Farrah was better with faces. "I'm Farrah Welsh." She offered, knowing that her introduction would label her right off the bat.

Kit asked her a question, but before she could really answer her, she asked her another. She wasn't sure why the gender of her friends would matter, but she answered her anyway. "One of them is a boy, yes. Kellen Mormont. And the other one is Georgia Kirkly. They're my best friends. Second years like me." Farrah explained. "Are you waiting for anyone now that your friend is preoccupied?"

Gia

November 06, 2016 8:59 AM
Gia was standing quietly by herself when a person with a unicorn's head walked up to her. Before she said anything about it, however, the person removed the head and it was revealed to be Jemima, the Teppenpaw Prefect. She thought that Jemima would be a nice person to have a conversation with over some of the other Prefect options, like Kelsey Atwater. Gia didn't know the Crotalus very well, but she didn't think she was someone who would tolerate Gia or her friends very well, so she pointedly kept her distance from her. At least she shared common interests with Jemima even if they never really overlapped before now.

Gia smiled, with only made the paint on her face make her look even creepier due to the stitch work and big eyes. “I suppose either would work.” She answered, truthfully not sure herself what someone was supposed to say in terms of costumes. “I like your unicorn outfit. It's very well done.” Gia complimented, meaning it as well. If she had the time, she might have attempted a more put together look, but with all the cheerleader outfits she had to make, Prefect duties, Library Monitor duties, Spirit Club duties, and the other clubs she was in along with homework and studying, she just did what she could in the extra time.

Looking around now though, she sort of wish she had the time. She felt sort of like the odd ball out having gone for scarier than for cute. “I have never been to a Halloween party, have I chosen incorrectly?” Gia asked, concern wrinkling her forehead.

Gwen Fintoc

November 06, 2016 9:04 AM
Gwen sped along the corridors to Cascade Hall, walking as fast as she possibly could without making a poor presentation of herself as a well mannered young lady. She couldn't be late! Ayla had arranged a gathering of the girls in their year for lunch, which was such a good idea and sounded so fun, and Gwen couldn't bear to consider what her roommate would think if she didn't arrive on time.

The redhead wasn't usually a tardy person but she had got caught up in a piece of music in MARS. She had always been very dedicated to her music but now she was in the orchestra (and had Louis to impress), Gwen felt more determined than ever to improve.

"Hi girls," she smiled as she found the group. "Ayla! I'm not too, am I? I'm terribly sorry, I got a little caught up practising our orchestra piece. I didn't want you to think I wouldn't turn up!"

Gwen took a seat at the table, holding the skirt of her floral dress down as she did so just in case. She suddenly realised that there were only five of them, including herself, so she probably wasn't the last to arrive.

"Who else are we waiting for?" she inquired, although perhaps Ayla didn't actually know if all the first year girls would be joining them or not.

Joella

November 06, 2016 9:16 AM
Joella knew what was happening but still she could hardly believe it. And then Jax Donovan was kissing her! And she kissed him back, her eyes closed and head tilted upwards.

After a moment she pulled away a little, although her face remained so close to his, just to look at him again as though she wanted to check this was all real and she wasn't just dreaming. The corners of her mouth twitched upwards in a smile before she leaned in again, confident to initiate a second kiss, locking her lips against his before parting them slightly.

There were so many questions running through her mind but right now she was too caught up in the moment to ask them.

The kiss was less awkward than he anticipated it being. He wasn't sure why he thought it would be other than their history together, but he was glad that it was quite the opposite. When she pulled away, he thought that was the end of it and they would have to have a discussion regarding what it all meant, but to his pleasant surprise, Joella stared at him for a brief moment before kissing him again.

The invitation came with the second kiss and he eagerly accepted it, deepening their kiss and pulling her closer to him. He knew that he would have to talk to her; he didn't want their to be any confusion to what his expectations were. Joella was not Shelly, and he didn't want to hurt her if they were looking for different things. For the moment though, he was just going to enjoy her mouth against his and everything else happening between them.

Amelia Layne

November 06, 2016 9:47 AM
At the last moment, right outside the Cascade Hall, Amelia gave in to temptation and went to check her hair in a bathroom mirror. She had pulled it up into a high ponytail in the hopes this would hide that it was fuzzy today while still showing she had hair and she was afraid it might have started failing on the way down to lunch.

She was super-excited about Kit's friend Ayla inviting her to lunch. Her and all the other girls, but still - someone had specifically asked for her company. That was great! So as soon as she was almost satisfied with her hair, she hurried toward the Teppenpaw table, where a knot of girls was already forming. She arrived just in time to hear Gwen's last remark.

“Me at least,” said Amelia, smiling and hoping she was neither the only girl who came in trousers (with floral blouse) instead of a skirt nor too horribly late. She hadn't thought she'd spent that long on her hair.... “I'm Amelia. Thank you for inviting me, Ayla,” she added, slipping into a seat and smiling, too, at the other girls.

Kit

November 06, 2016 10:58 AM
The name didn't come with any sort of title, so it was fair to say that Farrah was most likely not among the elite. To say that she wasn't Pureblood, Kit couldn't say. Though, there did seem to be some that were societal that didn't go by proper etiquette of introductions. Either way, it wasn't a worry for the moment.

“Oh, that's wonderful!” Kit exclaimed in regards to Farrah's friends. She had been hoping that there would be something more of a romance going on and that they could bond over talking about it, but that was all right. If she were meeting a boy, she would have been ecstatic just merely for the fact that one was interested in her. “Oh, no. I didn't make any formal plans with anyone so I'm all on my lonesome. Anyhow, who is your costume based on?"

Kit was pleased when several other girls showed up. By her calculations, only three other girls were missing. She hadn't really seen Lina since school started, so she didn't think that she would be showing up. She wasn't really sure about the other two. She debated waiting on them for a few more minutes, but decided not to. They would just have to be considered fashionably late if they showed up. "Ayla, it really was a wonderful idea to plan this lunch," she added her own compliment to the others.

"What does everyone think of the school so far?" It was a boring topic to begin with, but a good starter since it could go in a multitude of directions depending on what others contributed.

Laila Kennedy

November 06, 2016 11:52 AM
It had been a long time, really, since Laila had thought about Jax Donovan like that. Sure he had been the subject of her main crush a couple times at Sonoras but that had soon made way for what was, in her opinion, a more adult crushe on Scottie Tucker which had turned into dating the sweet boy for two summers. And when she had returned to Sonora that year, certain her crushes of old were gone she had seen Jax sitting on that wagon as pretty as he pleased and she had been a goner once more.

Until she had seen Jax and Joella disappearing behind a tapestry just before lunch one day. It could have been an innocent meeting and Laila wasn't one to jump to assumptions, but the facts remained that in Bad Moon Rising anytime someone wanted to go off and have 'alone time' with each other, they liked to do it behind things like tapestries or in stairwells or other dark corners of a castle. The dungeons of Kern's castle was a particular favorite location for some reason or another.

Jax had agreed to go to the ball with Laila the previous year and dismissed her suggestions of attending together as just friends, insisting for whatever reason that it was okay to call it a date. And so when Laila saw those two sets of feet disappearing behind the tapestry in front of Cascade Hall, she felt her heart sink. And suddenly, she wasn't so hungry for lunch anymore. She turned, trying to keep herself from crying and as such, not really looking where she was going.

Eyes brimming with tears she refused to let fall, she felt as though she were just about ready to hold them back when someone bumped into her and they came spilling out. The embarrassed voice and concern over her well being caused her to blush that she had been caught crying even though it was really just a couple tears that gravity had shaken loose.

"Yeah, I'm fine," she said in a small voice, looking up at Dustin Newell who was the first boy at Sonora she'd had a proper crush on. The world, it seemed hated her. Mother was right and God was punishing her for whatever pagan ritual she had performed last. It was the only reason why today of all days would suck so much. Maybe she would renounce magic and go home and become a nun. It would make Dustin un-see her crying and it wouldn't make Jax fall out of love with Joella but at least she would never have to face them again.

Madeleine and Flora

November 06, 2016 12:06 PM
Madeleine grinned, all her thoughts on the silly Defence test (why did they need to be tested on a subject that was all practical use anyway?) behind her now. She shook her head, a couple strands of hair falling out of the ribbon that had tied it half back for the test. “I almost caught one but he disappeared behind a stack of books in the library before I could catch up to him!”

She looked behind her as though there were spies from the enemy on their trail. “I think I uncovered a plot against the Japanese Minister of Magic though!” Although Madeleine had yet to allow anyone else other than Léo get to know Flora Deschamps, she was starting to think that Lily was one witch who would be able to understand. “But I can't stop it alone!”

Out of the corner of her eye she saw a wizard walking by and she lowered her voice even further. “It is time that the great Flora Deschamps take on a partner!” She switched out of her play-pretend voice and took on her regular, slightly less-accented one. “That's my spy name,” she explained before reverting to Flora's thicker dialect. “Will you help me?”

Madeleine Dautin

November 06, 2016 1:17 PM
Ever since Arianna Valenti had brought up her concerns regarding Kellen Mormont and his involvement with their roommate, Farrah Welsh, Madeleine Dautin had been keeping an eye on the wizard in question. So far she hadn't seen what Arianna had seen in him, but from all the detective novels she read she knew that it was always the quiet ones who ended up being who you least expected.

After a few weeks, however, Madeleine felt as though she'd gathered enough information and that it was time to have a personal interview with the suspect. A good detective never let on that a suspect was a suspect until she was good and ready, however, and so Madeleine spent some time pondering the best way to approach Kellen Mormont.

She had several options before her. She could corner him in a class and force him to become her partner for which they would have the duration of the period to sort things out. But if he was cleverer than he appeared then he might realize her ulterior motive and then she would be in some hot water, so to speak.

But if she surprised him at breakfast she would have the advantage of being able to leave when she pleased but the disadvantage of Farrah or someone slightly less savory appearing and distracting the conversation off course or drawing suspicion to Madeleine's un-orthodox presence eating with Kellen.

When all was said and done, however, it appeared that an ambush at the breakfast table was the situation which would procure the most data for analysis although that meant Madeleine would need to come up with a reason to approach him. Doing something for Farrah's birthday was out of the question since Madeleine was fairly certain her roommate was born in the winter (she made a mental note to find out the exact date to add to her "files") and Farrah was really the only common point between the two of them.

She was having a nice breakfast with Bastien when Kellen entered Cascade Hall and Madeleine spontaneously decided that was the perfect moment for their little chat. Her eyes followed the only Aladren boy in their year to the table he chose to sit at and, pleased no one else was around, stood up from her place at Bastien's table. "I'll be back later," she told him, still looking at Kellen. "There's something I have to take care of first."

As she arrived at Kellen's table Madeleine painted on a bright smile. "Kellen!" she enthused. "We haven't had the pleasure of being properly introduced yet. I'm Farrah's roommate and since you seem to be one of her best friends, we really ought to know each other, don't you think?" Her accent and less than full control over the English language caused her flowery speech to sound awkward and stilted, but she had long since mastered being able to look sincerely happy to be somewhere and so when put together the awkwardness would have appeared only to be caused by her being a foreign speaker.

Joella

November 06, 2016 1:45 PM
Joella thought she might get lost in the kiss, but as much as she wished to remain kissing Jax forever, the blonde knew her mind wouldn't rest until she got some answers.

The only thing was, Jax telling her he had feelings for her and then kissing her like this was a huge step and she feared she might push him away by doing anything other than enjoying this new kind of attention he was giving her. If he felt things were getting complicated or if she demanded too much, there was a chance Jax might drop her altogether and that was the last thing she wanted.

Joella tried to push these concerns to the back of her mind and forced herself to separate her lips from Jax's. "I don't understand," she said quietly after a brief moment of silence, her head looking down a little so she was no longer looking Jax in the eye but she had not stepped away from him. "What do you want from me?" one hand left the back of Jax's neck and touched her own forehead, an expression of her confusion as she struggled to find exactly what it was she wanted to ask him now. "Is this just-" she broke off because she knew from a summer with Darius that some boys were only looking for one thing and if you wanted more then you'd just scare them away.

Louis was humming one of the orchestra's latest pieces as he walked into the hall for lunch, dressed as carefully as ever in skinny jeans and a casual yet expensive shirt, his hair artfully messy. He felt like he'd had a productive morning. He'd got several pieces of homework out of the way, as well as doing some preparation for the next orchestra meeting. Everything was going pretty well.

Emmy-Lou was already at the Aladren table, so Louis headed straight for his best friend, passing the Teppenpaw table as he did so. He couldn't help but notice the large group of first-year girls chatting away, Gwen amongst them. “Hi, Gwen,” he said, smiling at the younger girl as he passed. He'd got to know her a little over the summer, finding her fun and also rather talented at the piano!

Farrah

November 06, 2016 1:55 PM
Kit was a very enthusiastic person and Farrah found her thinking that if she hadn't heard her answer questions in class, she might have thought she was a better fit for Teppenpaw or Pecari rather than Aladren. But Farrah didn't say any of her thoughts about it; instead she merely smiled at her. What would she have said to any of that anyway? Her friends were wonderful, but there was still a chance that they would not show to the party. She wanted them to, of course, but she knew that sometimes this sort of thing wasn't for them and she couldn't be angry with them for that. It wasn't really Farrah's thing either, but she was trying.

“Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.” Farrah replied when Kit said she was on her own. Farrah hated being alone because then it led to her sitting by herself and feeling like a complete loser. “Oh, I'm the female form of the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz.” Farrah said. “It's a book, but in the Non-Magical world, it's also a movie and it's one of my mom's favorites. So, because she had free reign on my costume, she, of course, chose this one.” Farrah shrugged her shoulders. There wasn't much for her to do about it now.

The idea of working in the library when you didn't even have to wasn't something that really appealed to Finn, but then he remembered that Farrah was an Aladren, and therefore more academically-minded than he was. In that context, her sentence made more sense.

“I was working on the charms assignment,” he said, referring to the short essay that Professor Perrault had set them that week. “But I wasn't getting anywhere, so that's my excuse to take a break.” He started gathering up his various books and pieces of parchment, which had become rather spread out across the table.

He lined up his arrow, and took his time aiming and setting his shot. He felt like he needed to show improvement, too. The arrow flew straight and true, directly to where he aimed it, on the outer ring at three o'clock. Why didn't it ever do that when he aimed at the middle?

"Well, I guess that's your question again," he told Kit.

Jax

November 06, 2016 2:16 PM
The kiss lasted for a while and he was thoroughly enjoying it, glad that he had managed to get over his initial worry about confronting Joella about their feelings. But all good things must come to an end and eventually, Joella pulled away from him. And with the space came the questions. He knew they would come, but it didn't make it any easier.

Jax sighed and moved away from her to take a seat on the dark stairs. He knew that he would have to discuss this with her; he was just hoping that they could have kissed for a little while longer. Of course, for him, kissing always led to other things and that he wasn't sure would happen with Joella. “I don't really know what I want.” Jax answered her, staring at the shadows that the light from his wand was casting. “Not anything serious. I wasn't lying when I said that the whole boyfriend thing isn't something that I can do.” Jax explained. He wasn't sure why he felt that way, but knowing that he was spending his life in hiding, he didn't think it was right for him to pull someone along with him.

“But I like you. I think about you to the point where it's driving me crazy. I just don't know what it all means.” He wanted to be honest with her. If she required for him to be her boyfriend in order to see one another, than it was better to just end things here.

Dustin

November 06, 2016 2:18 PM
Dustin was, in many regards, a human being equivolant of a brick. He was not horribly perceptive, especially when it came to emotional issues. Girls seemed to have them a lot--his experience coming from Makenzie, who was going through a tough time, and his sisters, who were sort of crybabies--and he was pretty obtuse to a lot of things.

But even he could tell that something was wrong with Laila other than their collision rocking her. Her voice was smaller than her norm, and a couple tears dotted her cheeks. “Um… are you sure?” he asked, this time his implicating in asking to her well-being clearly not referring to possible physical injuries.

Laila

November 06, 2016 2:32 PM
There was something comforting in the way that Dustin asked her if she was sure if she was okay. It was an entirely boyish thing to do, something that Gabe-y had asked Laila a few times when they were younger and she hadn't wanted to tell him what was bothering her.

The simple prompting from her brother usually got Laila to spill what was on her mind, but she hardly knew Dustin apart from admiring his lovely freckles and besides that she'd once had a crush on him. She hardly wanted to start telling him about how another boy had just indirectly broken her heart.

She shrugged her shoulders a little, wiping off the tears so that the only evidence of having been about to cry were slightly red, watery eyes. "I will be," she replied with a timid smile. "I just got some upsetting news is all. Thanks for asking."

She dusted her dress off as though to rid it from any wrinkles bumping into Dustin might have caused before looking back up at him. "I hope I didn't bump you too hard!"

Kellen

November 06, 2016 2:33 PM
Kellen was shocked. Farrah had been picked on at her last school? That didn't make any sense to him. He'd been teased because of his generally gaunt appearance. His ears were too big, his eyes were too far apart, he had a general trouty look to him. Plus his anxiety and antisocial nature made him ‘the weird kid'. He knew that Farrah was a little shy, but who would pick on her because of it? He had to take a deep breath, in hopes that it would help calm the anger that was building inside of him.

“I-I'm sorry you had to go through all of that. I know that feeling.” He paused for a moment, trying to figure out the right thing to say. “You know, if that ever happens to you here, you can talk to me. I think I have the whole Hulk thing under control now, so I won't break anymore bones, but I'm a decent listener. One of the perks of having these.” He said, pointing to his ears with his free hand.

He was glad that Farrah hadn't read too much into his comment, and seemed to have accepted it at face value. He was afraid of things being awkward between them, so he was glad when she said she liked him too, not that he really doubted it. “You're welcome. Thank you for helping me through Science club.”

November 06, 2016 2:40 PM
Joella wasn't surprised that Jax didn't want to be her boyfriend. Her conversation with Gia last term had not been forgotten and only now did she realise how much of it she had still misunderstood at the time.

Any disappointment at that, however, was almost forgotten when Jax so easily admitted that Joella had been driving him crazy. It was flattering and she liked knowing that she had such an affect on him. Whenever she saw him, Jax made her feel all kinds of things so it was certainly very nice to learn that it worked both ways, in some respect at least.

"So this is a secret?" Joella asked, because she wasn't naive enough to think this was going to be a one-time thing.

Farrah

November 06, 2016 2:48 PM
Farrah was finding it harder to make friends while at Sonora than she had back home. She thought it was because of the separate houses. She didn't live at her old private school, so there wasn't any sort of separation the way there was here. Like, would Farrah be more friends with other people if she were given the opportunity to share a dorm with them instead of just Madeleine and Arianna? She thought so, but since that wasn't the case, she was left flailing helplessly around hoping to make contact with people.

“Oh yeah, that was a difficult one.” Farrah agreed. She hated it when the homework essay was vague because then she was left trying to fit everything about a particular charm into her essay instead of simply focusing in on one particular thing. “Breaks are always nice to have though. Whenever I'm stuck on something, I'll play a game. Like a word search or puzzle to refocus and then I'll go back to whatever it was that I was working on.” Farrah said. She knew that was probably a little nerdy thing to say, but she thought that whatever it was that made him happy would just replace her puzzles.

Gwen

"I think it's nice here," Gwen smiled in response to Kit's question. "The professors seem nice so far, and I guess my roommate is okay," she said, shoot a grin at Ayla to show that she was just teasing - her roommmate was obviously more than okay, she was great!

Before she could say anything more, she was distracted by Louis passing by. "Hi Louis!" she replied with an especially bright smile, her heart fluttering a little in her chest, but she thought she was getting much better at controlling the colour of her cheeks. She was still amazed that he even spoke to her at school - he was so cool.

She turned back around in her seat to face her friends but it was hard to regain focus on their topic of conversation. "The clubs are great, don't you think?" she said hurriedly.

Jax

November 06, 2016 2:56 PM
“What? No!” Jax said immediately at her question, “I didn't mean it to come off like that'. He did not mean to imply that anything that they were doing had to be a secret. He didn't really care if people knew that they had something going or anything like that. Of course, he knew that Joella was a Pureblood of a certain Societal kind, so she would likely have more of an issue being seen as romantically linked to someone like him rather than the other way around.

“I just meant, that I would prefer something casual or, at least, not have labels.” Jax tried to explain. “I can't explain it.” He finally muttered; feeling frustrated with himself. “I just don't want to go too far with you and hurt you in any way because you were looking at this differently than me.” He stated, hoping that he was at least being a little more clearer about his intentions. “But, if you want this to be a secret, because of your reputation and everything, that's fine too.”

Ayla

November 06, 2016 3:08 PM
“Not late at all, Gwen, I'm happy you're here!” Ayla said with a smile upon the arrival of a roommate. She was relieved that the other Teppenpaw girl had finally arrived. Ayla imagined it might look at little strange if the girl she spent the most time with didn't show up. “We're just waiting on Emerald, Natalie, Lina, and oh! Amelia, you made it! Thank you for coming.”

She was definitely feeling good about her idea now, and it definitely didn't hurt that it seemed that everyone else agreed. “Thank you, Kit! I'm glad you think so.” Ayla laughed and gave a little shrug at Gwen's comment about her. She was going to answer her friends question about school when they were interrupted...by the gorgeous Louis Valois, and Gwen knew him too?! Ayla was stunned, even though she spent time with him (kind of) in orchestra, she still couldn't quite handle herself around him. He was just so...amazing? Talented, handsome, French. She watched him walk away, resting her cheek in her palm, and let out a soft sigh as he went. Part of her wished that she could ask Gwen for a proper introduction, but what would she say?! He gave her butterflies in her stomach, she couldn't even imagine what would come out of her mouth if she actually had to talk to him.

Gwen's question about clubs made Ayla snap back to reality, and made her cheeks redden slightly. She pursed her lips, trying to play off the fact that she completely lost her composure moments ago. She pushed her hair back from her face and took a sip of water as she regained her cool. “Clubs are so great.” Ayla agreed, speaking about one run by a devastatingly handsome French guy in particular. “Are any of you planning on participating in the fair?”

Kellen Mormont

November 06, 2016 3:16 PM
Kellen jumped at the sound of his name. He'd been lost in thought and a bowl of oatmeal when Madeleine approached him, and he wasn't used to people actually choosing to talk to him outside of class. Farrah not included, of course.

“Oh, um, yeah...sure.” He said, trying to understand her reasoning. Farrah had said that the two of them had exchanged letters over the summer, and were becoming more friendly, so maybe the idea was for the three of them to become friends? There was Georgia to take into consideration too, he imagined, since Farrah and Georgia seemed to be close. Either way, Kellen wasn't going to blindly turn down Madeleine's offer.

“Nice to officially meet you.” He said with a half smile. “So, what's up?”

Joella

November 06, 2016 3:16 PM
Joella wasn't sure why Jax was so horrified at the thought of keeping it a secret but when he suggested she might want to, her inner reaction to that was all the explanation she needed.

"It's okay," Joella told him, not wanting to watch Jax struggle to explain himself any further when she'd already understood all that really needed to be understood for the time being. "I get it."

It was literally Darius all over again, only the thought of Jax kissing other girls wasn't something she could accept so easily.

"And no, I don't need secrets," Joella said firmly but she did not expand any further. Jax didn't need to know why the way she saw it, being connected to him would be a good thing (even if society didn't agree). Hopefully it would put to rest any lingering reminders that she and Ali had dated and make anyone who had caught wind of her being Darius Tavana's 'bit of fluff' forget it. But none of it was about that so the last thing she wanted to do was add complications by making Jax think it was.

She didn't really know what to say next but as she looked at Jax, she found herself feeling quite excited for this new adventure.

Farrah

November 06, 2016 3:32 PM
Farrah had a pleasant bubble in the pit of her stomach when Kellen verbalized his sincerity regarding her past issues with bullying. She didn't really know why she had such a pleasant feeling from the comment other than it was nice that someone felt compelled to apologize for it happening, but she wasn't sure if that was it either.

She laughed, unintentionally, at his Hulk comment. She still found it hard to believe that Kellen could become so angry at another human being that he raged out and became violent with them. It was just one of those things that unless she saw it happen, than she wouldn't believe. But she did hope she never actually did see it happen. She laughed again and then nudged him with her elbow at his playing. “You have great ears.” She stated as she did so. “I haven't really been picked on here, except for Arianna's snarky attitude. It's kind of nice not having to have that fear every day, you know?” Farrah commented as they walked.

“Oh, you're more than welcome. Like I told you at the feast, that's what friends are for.” Farrah replied, feeling much better now than when she had after potions.

“I haven't had one of the pumpkin cakes yet, but they'll be the next thing I eat!” promised Victor. He had no dislikes when it came to food, and the pumpkin cakes really did sound yummy!

“I can help you clean up, if you want?” offered Victor, a little surprised as the words came out of his mouth. Taking on extra, unnecessary work wasn't normally his style, but something had prompted him to offer his services to Ayla. Oh well, odds were they already had enough people, and if she did take him up on his offer, it would be a bonus point for him. And he wouldn't mind doing it for her.

“Princes are actually pretty cool,” he informed her. “They have lots of adventures, and they're always the hero.” However, his face fell slightly at her question about his sword, which suddenly didn't seem quite as cool.

“It's not actually real,” he confessed. “Apparently it's too dangerous to take a real sword to a party.” His mother had been quite taken aback when she realised her oldest son had been expecting a real sword as part of his costume. Luckily, Jehan had saved the day by pointing out to Victor that, in case of danger, he could always use his wand to make the sword real. This had comforted the young Crotalus, who had been concerned about failing to live up to his costume if a real emergency arose.

Jax

November 06, 2016 3:51 PM
Jax relaxed when Joella told him that she understood what he was saying. Talking about feelings and things was not something that Jax was accustomed to doing and he found himself not liking it now that he was. It was far too confusing and convoluted to really be able to say out loud and get another person to really understand what he was saying. He would never do this again if he didn't have to. As long as Joella understood that he cared for her and wanted to be with her without the added pressure of labels, then that was all that really mattered.

“Okay, then we won't have to be in a secret relationship.” Jax stated, feeling better that they had agreed on something. Jax held out a hand for her to take so that he could pull her close again and have a better look at her in the light. “And you're okay with it being more casual, something more fun and less serious? I'm not talking about just floundering around with anyone or anything like that. I'm not looking to hook up with anyone other than you.” He told her. He wasn't one of those guys who used people so he didn't want her feeling that way with him.

Joella found herself yet again surprised when Jax told her he wasn't looking at anyone else but this time she kept it to herself. Maybe she was foolish to think otherwise? One minute Joella thought she knew boys and then the next she was back at square one, but in this case it wasn't such a bad thing.

She took Jax's hand and let him pull her closer towards him. She wanted to be even closer but she resisted the temptation - rushing into things too much would not be a good idea.

"More fun, less serious? Does that sound like something I wouldn't want?" Joella questioned with a giggle but it was intended to be rhetorical because when he phrased things like that, it was hard to see why anyone would want it any other way.

"Of course I'm okay with it," she added for clarification. What Jax was offering her had turned out to be more than she'd thought so there was no chance of her being anything but content with it.

"You can stop talking about this now," she smiled, somewhat teasingly, knowing that it couldn't be easy for Jax of all people to have to explain himself in this way but it made her appreciate it all the more.

Ayla

November 06, 2016 4:19 PM
Ayla bit her bottom lip, trying to stifle some of her enthusiasm when Victor said he'd try one of her cupcakes next. It was sweet of him to say, though she expected that he wouldn't necessarily appreciate hearing she felt that way. Milo would, on occasion, do something nice for her, and when she drew attention to it he would groan and revert to being just as awful as ever.

“You'll have to let me know what you think.” She said, unable to keep her smile from spreading across her face. “You'd really do that? For me?” Ayla asked, with her head tilted to the side slightly as she looked at him. “I mean, it would be nice to have someone reach the high stuff, since I'm not great at all the spells yet. I think we've got enough people on spirit squad, but if you want to stay and hang out with me, I won't complain.” Was that too bold? She knew her parents probably wouldn't appreciate her being so...brazen.

“And they always get the girl!” She added, noticing a slight dip in Victor's enthusiasm when she mentioned the sword. “Real or not, I'm sure you could still vanquish spiders with your sword. That's all I require in a hero. Spider killing and reaching things.”

Madeleine

November 06, 2016 4:27 PM
So far, conversing with Kellen just confirmed Madeleine's suspicions that Arianna was trying to manipulate Madeleine for some unknown reason presumably to some unknown and possibly nefarious end. Kellen was just as sleepy and boring as Madeleine had expected from her observations of the lad, so the thought of Arianna attempting to manipulate her got Madeleine's blood boiling.

"Not much," she replied, smoothing over any irritation towards her absent roommate with a charming grin directed at Kellen's equally boring breakfast. "What's that? I've seen it before but I've never had it. Is it good?"

She had seen several of her classmates eating the lumpy looking breakfast. Madeleine really couldn't understand why someone would want to eat something as goopey as that for breakfast when there were much more colourful, tastey options such as fruit or chocolate and bread.

Dustin

November 06, 2016 4:31 PM
She didn't give much detail, which probably meant that she didn't really want to talk about it anymore, but Dustin's facial expression did not change. The concern was clear, wrinkling his freckled face. “Me?” he repeated incredulously as she expressed hope for his own well-being after their collision. “No, I'm fine. I'tll take more than a little bump to knock me around,” he added in a show of false masculinity.

“You, uh, don't have to tell me about your bad news, but if it'd help to talk about it, you're welcome to.” Years ago he probably wouldn't have bothered with this encouragement, but something about summer had changed him. He'd spent a lot of time trying to check on Makenzie and help her hold herself together, even if she didn't want him, and now he found himself a bit more keen to lend a hand.

Amelia was surprised to see her teammate Louis stop by the party, and even more surprised that he seemed to know one of the other girls, Gwen. Then, though, she remembered that Louis was trying to put together an orchestra and wasn't so surprised anymore. She waved to him, too, even though he hadn't greeted her specifically, and grinned, amused, when she saw the color in Gwen's cheeks and the look on Ayla's face. Somehow, she thought it was a good thing they weren't on the Aladren Quidditch team….

The girls quickly changed the subject to clubs, though. “I might,” said Amelia when Ayla asked if anyone was planning to participate in the Fair at the end of the year. “I'll see which countries we have to pick from, but I can cook a little, and it sounds like we might get to dress up.” She tried not to sound too enthusiastic about that so the other girls wouldn't think she was babyish for wanting to play dress-up at this late date.

Jax

November 06, 2016 4:31 PM
This felt like an odd situation to be in with him sitting on the stairs and her standing in front of him for two people who had only just started making out and trying to figure out just what they were to each other. Now that she was closer to him, he had no idea where it was proper for him to place his hands. He settled for her waist for the moment.

He smiled when she laughed and commented on his description of what he was looking for. At least she wasn't making this awkward for him. He was doing that to himself, but he was glad that she was letting him off the hook for it. This whole conversation (as stressful as it might have been for him) had gone off more smoothly than he had thought it would and now he was sitting here with Joella sort of in his arms.

"Thank you." He joked, letting out a small chuckle. "Will you be able to fit me in to your busy schedule?" He teased her. She was the Quidditch Captain now, along with Prefect and clubs. His schedule was less hectic. "Or will I be pining away for long periods of time?"

Caelia Lucan

November 06, 2016 4:39 PM
There was no way to explain how Caelia felt other than completely torn. Matt didn't want her talking to Alistair or Jack, she didn't want her grandmother to find out about Matt just yet, and moreover she wanted to talk to Alistair and Jack. Alistair had always acted as though he appreciate Caelia's input in a way that Matt never had, and Jack treated Caelia as though the things she had to say weren't completely idiotic. But Matthew was Matthew and she felt loyal to her oldest friend in ways she didn't think she could feel towards anyone else.

However ever since going to the ball with Jack and then seeing Emrys go after what he really wanted that summer, Caelia was starting to reconsider her academic future. She had long ago given up on herself, her brain was too clouded, her mind too simple to ever be able to understand anything. Matt had accepted that and told her it was fine, but lately she'd been feeling kind of...different. It was like there was something inside her, some small part of her that was actually curious about things, and that small part of her was trying to push through the years of being told she wasn't smart.

So that year, she had started by going to the library more frequently. Usually she wandered the stacks alone, taking down the sorts of books she thought that Emrys would be interested in and forcing herself to read them even when she didn't understand most of what was going on. She even kept a tiny notebook hidden on her person to write down some of the more difficult words so that she could look them up later. It was on one of these visits that she stumbled over Jack Spencer.

Red-faced at having been caught trying to read books that were 'out of her league' so to speak, Caelia stammered out a quick "No, I'm fine, how are you?" with a completely deer-in-the-headlights sort of look on her face.

Victor

November 06, 2016 4:43 PM
“Of course I would,” assured Victor, now very glad that he'd rashly offered to help Ayla. He liked the idea of reaching things for the smaller girl, and just generally being needed. Forget the other spirit squad people, Ayla wanted him to help. “I'm always up for doing things if I can spend more time with you.” He smiled at her, this time with just a hint of something other than confidence - not quite shyness, but in that direction. For once, Victor was in a situation where his natural self confidence wasn't entirely reliable. As much as he liked them, and as much as he liked to seem confident, he hadn't spent lots of time around girls, and Ayla just seemed so poised.

“Well, that's what happens in the stories!” Ayla was right, rescuing the grateful damsel in distress was another way in which being a prince was pretty much the ideal costume choice. “And spiders don't stand a chance against me.” Maybe he couldn't slay a dragon with his sword, but he seemed to fit the criteria for being Ayla's hero, and that definitely cheered him up.

Joella was glad when Jax teased her back, clearly not too traumatized by the conversation she had just put him through.

"Hmm, let me think," Joella grinned at his question. "I kinda like the idea of leaving you pining." Of course, as much as she liked that idea, she would rather be with him.

"Hey, do I still have my private boxing sessions with you booked?" she smiled, although the thought of trying to concentrate on boxing with Jax in the room now sounded impossible.

His low sounding laugh could be heard as possible a cough, but hopefully Joella would see it as the laugh that it was.

November 06, 2016 5:12 PM
Laila giggled a little as Dustin played up his maleness, already starting to feel a little better. "Thanks," she replied. "I really appreciate that, I kind of don't want to think about it right now though, but I'll keep it in mind."

It was really kind of Dustin to offer to hear her out. He belonged to the society that Laila had figured out by now looked down on Muggleborns such as herself, but that didn't mean she couldn't look at him all she pleased. She almost wanted to ask if he was okay in that way too, she had heard about what had happened with his family--everyone in the school had heard about it, it seemed, but she knew that if it were her family who had fallen from grace she wouldn't want some stranger to talk to her about it.

"Where were you heading when I ran into you?" she asked, not quite sure why she wanted to extend the conversation (though she did have a vague idea), just that she did and this was her grasping at straws in order to do so.

Dustin was pretty sure Laila was giggling somewhat at his expense, but for right now, he didn't really mind. It was just nice that she was laughing, however slight, and hopefully starting to feel better. He knew her happiness wasn't really his concern--he wasn't sure he'd call her a friend, if he'd dare to--but it felt kind of nice to help.

“Nowhere in particular,” he answered, letting the previous topic drop since she said she didn't want to talk about it but now knew certainly that she could. “Just walking around. You can walk with me, if you want to. I promise not to walk into you again.” Dustin wore a small smile which crooked slightly to one side. Despite a slight ache from the impact a few moments ago, he found himself to be in a much better mood.

Kellen

November 06, 2016 5:24 PM
Farrah's comment made Kellen's ears redden almost instantly. He'd always tried to keep his hair a little on the longer side in order to hide them, so it was weird to have them complimented.

“Thanks?” He said with a smile. “I absolutely know what you mean. Though, I'm not going to lie, I am a little afraid of Arianna.” He admitted, somewhat sheepishly. “I probably have it all twisted and blown out of proportion in my head, courtesy of my wonderful anxiety. I'm just afraid I'm going to end up in a broom closet somewhere in a body bind curse.” Kellen shook his head, trying to get the thought out of it.

“You know, you're the best friend I have. It's a pretty exclusive list too, so, there's that.” He admitted, apparently determined to throw all of his feelings at her as they walked to class.

Laila nodded. That sounded really nice--she didn't want to go back to Cascade Hall just yet and she didn't really know where else to go, but walking around with Dustin sounded like a welcome distraction.

"Sure thing," she replied. She really liked Dustin's smile. She thought it was kind of cute how uneven it was. "That's a very gentlemanly offer, and I accept."

As restrictive as pureblood society was, Laila did have to give it props. Aside from Oliver Ferguson, all the pureblood wizards she'd met so far had all displayed perfectly lovely manners. "How have you been, by the way? I don't think we've really talked since the challenges."

They were a time that Laila didn't really like to remember because of how Oliver had picked on her--probably for being the only Muggleborn, but possibly also for being the only girl, too. But it was also a period of time which she and Dustin shared.

..Devastation Of Many Involved

Joella couldn't help feeling even happier than usual after her recent tryst with Jax. She wasn't sure who would have noticed her heightened mood more - possibly her roommates as she sang and danced about the dorm even more than usual, or her Quidditch team because she had them doing some more fun-orientated drills as opposed to harder fitness-based drills ("more fun, less serious" he'd said, and maybe she wasn't the only one who wanted that in their life).

She spotted Jax and his friends as she entered Cascade Hall for dinner one evening and decided to join them. She loved hanging out with that group anyway and now that she no longer had to pretend she didn't have a huge crush on Jax, it would be all the more fun.

"Hey guys, mind if I join you?" she grinned, slipping her arms around Jax's shoulders from behind briefly before sitting down at the table. It was a simple gesture that no one probably would have thought twice about coming from Joella if it had been someone like Chuck that she'd done it to but this was Jax and she'd never have dared do something like that to him before.

"So what's new?" she asked the whole group casually, as though she hadn't just indicated some big news through her actions.

Kellen

November 06, 2016 5:41 PM
Kellen wasn't quite sure what to make of this entire exchange. Madeleine was definitely an interesting one, but that might just have been due to the fact that she was French. He wasn't super familiar with the culture, so he tried his best to go along with it, despite the fact that she made him a little nervous. His gaze fell back to his breakfast as the Madeleine asked about it.
Did they not have oatmeal in France?

“Oatmeal? It's fine, I don't know that I'd say it was amazing, but it's good enough. It's oats, milk, and this particular flavor has cinnamon and bits of apple. There are other flavors as well, and you can put water in it if you're lactose intolerant. The thickness can be altered too, if you prefer it thinner.” He paused, realizing that he'd rambled off more information about his breakfast that the girl probably cared to know. Kellen stirred his oatmeal as he tried to think of what to say. He was so bad at small talk. “What did you have for breakfast?” He suspected a croissant, or an omelette du fromage. Maybe a crepe perhaps. Those were all things French people ate for breakfast, right?

She felt rather chuffed with herself for making Jax laugh but she already knew he had more of a sense of humour than she'd given him credit for in the past.

"At my disposal, huh?" she arched an eyebrow, her smile still lingering as she reached out and putting her arms around his neck. "I'll be taking you up on that."

Hs smile multiplied. Dustin prided himself on his etiquette and upbringing, and the quickest way to his heart good side was to compliment him in that regard.

But the smile faltered slightly when she asked how he'd been. “Yeah, it's been a while,” he said, choosing to more immediately comment on their gap in conversation. “I'm….” Dustin struggled to find the words. There was not really a point in lying. She had certainly heard the news about the family, if nothing else than from the Reinhardt boys, since Tobi was apparently somehow involved with Makenzie (a thought he choked down to keep from getting angry all over).

“I've been better,” he settled on finally. “Things have been a bit rough. But we'll bounce back.” He wasn't sure for whom he was being so reassuring, either to keep her from possibly worrying, to give her something positive for the situation to possibly spread around the gossip mill, or else just to say out loud to help himself believe it. “What about you? Did you have a pleasant summer?”

Emilia-Louise Scott

November 06, 2016 5:55 PM
Emmy-Lou hadn't been looking for it but considering how much time she spent in the library, it wasn't a great surprise that she noticed it. The library schedule was pinned up on the board and it had more names than ever on it, at least as long as she'd paid attention.

This year there were four library monitors and Emmy-Lou couldn't help feeling instantly annoyed at herself for not having considered this. Part of the reason she hadn't signed up this year was because she knew the three monitors from last year would be monitors again and thus she'd have no chance of promotion. But as it turned out, there was a fourth monitor and that fourth person just had to be none other than Barnaby Pye. That boy was awful - he didn't deserve to be a monitor at all.

Emmy knew that she technically had no place to complain. She hadn't even signed up this year so it was her own fault. The Aladren was running two clubs this year so it would have been a stretch adding monitor duties to that anyway. But Barnaby Pye? Why on earth had the librarian thought he was the best candidate? Even Laila Kennedy would have been preferable to him - yes, it hadn't escaped Emmy's notice that she'd returned, either.

"Humph," she said in a displeased manner as she sat down at one of the library tables, setting a thick book down rather loudly to reiterate this, without stopping to consider that she might take the table's other occupant by surprise.

Farrah

November 06, 2016 5:56 PM
“Yeah, she can be really scary sometimes.” Farrah agreed. “Imagine having to share a room with her!” Farrah added, showing comradery with him. “If you ever go missing suddenly, I'll know to check all the broom closets. Don't worry, I've got your back.” Farrah said jokingly. Well, not really jokingly, she did have his back, but she didn't think Arianna would go around hexing everyone who bothered her and shoving them into broom closets.

She tucked her long brown hair behind her ear that had fallen into her face while they were walking. She felt heat in her cheeks when Kellen called her his best friend. She wasn't really sure why his comment would have her blush, she had already considered him one of her best friends, but hearing him say it brought back that pleasant bubble in the pit of her stomach and a rose color to her cheeks. “I guess that makes you a lucky guy.” Farrah joked, her chuckle afterword sounding awkward. “But seriously, you're mine too. And Georgia. You and Georgia.”

Gia and Jax Donovan

November 06, 2016 6:04 PM
Jax was sitting opposite his sister at their usual table for dinner. He had been busy putting food on his plate when he felt arms go around him and heard Joella's familiar voice near his ear as she greeted everyone. He felt a smirk form on his lips as he felt her warmth, but as quick as it came, it was gone again as she took a seat at the table. He looked up to see his sister staring hard at him. He couldn't take her stare so he quickly returned his gaze to the food on his plate.

Gia couldn't believe what she had just seen. The only people who she had ever seen hug her brother had been her mother and her. And, of course, Shelly. But their relationship had gone to a place that Gia didn't like to think about because it was her brother and Shelly was still someone she didn't fully trust. Gia's blue eyes turned to Joella because Jax couldn't bother to say anything. She was acting casually, like herself, but not. Gia stared between them. Last year had been a weird year because Joella had outed her feelings to Jax and Jax had said no but now they were acting like…

“Hey!” Gia suddenly said. “Are you two…” She pointed her finger between the two of them? She looked to her brother and immediately started asking him questions in Greek so that the others couldn't understand what they were saying. Jax sighed and leaned back in his seat. He knew his sister would freak out.

Laila Kennedy

November 06, 2016 6:22 PM
Laila had been looking forward to dinner with the rest of her friends. She was sad that Wu didn't eat with them, but she was grateful that the other fourth year had opened up to her. She hoped that one day Wu would feel comfortable enough to rejoin them, but for now she would just let it be. But she had some exciting news to share. She thought she and Dustin Newell were making progress to becoming friends and since friends seemed to hard to come by at Sonora she was excited that she had gone and made another one all by herself.

"Guys, I--" she had begun when an interruption at the table caused her to stop short.

Her happy mood diminished, however, as Joella came by their table and she remembered the incident that had sparked her and Dustin's budding friendship. She had seen Jax follow Joella behind a tapestry that hid a secret staircase. Nothing had really been mentioned since then about it and Laila had been distracting herself by hanging out with the Reinhardts whenever possible, but seeing Joella put her arm around Jax like that just brought back all the feelings that she'd had before.

Gia's reaction and the way she had switched to Greek in order to talk to Jax just made Laila feel worse. It really seemed like Gia was happy for her brother and their other friend and Laila wanted to be happy for them too. They were her friends and she felt like a horrible person that their happiness was making her as miserable as it was, but she just couldn't help how she felt.

She felt as though she were a marionette whose strings had been cut suddenly and without warning, and she averted her eyes quickly to the green beans that were on her plate as she popped one in her mouth, neglecting the silverware in front of her. Suddenly she felt grateful that she had seen Jax and Joella go under the tapestry together. It meant that she had been slightly prepared. The sting still hadn't been taken away, but she'd already cried about it so she knew she'd be able to keep it together until she went to her room later that night.

"So that explains the whole tapestry business," she said casually as though the sudden revelation didn't bother her at all. She refused to let her friends think she was upset by this. It wouldn't be fair to overshadow their happy day by her pettiness.

Jozua was quietly minding his own business, reading a biography of a great amazonian explorer. He was deep in a chapter where the hero was bravely approaching some dangerous creatures when a loud bang startled him so bad that he was standing, wand drawn, and book flung toward the source of the sound before he even finished yelping. Then he saw the girl, and he put the wand away and covered his pounding heart with his other hand, chastising,"Don't do that to people reading about lethifolds."

Sammy Meeks

November 06, 2016 6:33 PM
Her stomach did a backflip when Joella approached, but almost immediately, somebody burst into her abdomin and shot and mugged it in an alleyway. She was handsy wth Jax (not horribly or inappropriately or anything, but it was Jax and anything was greater than the norm) when she joined, and then Gia's incomplete question and burst of Greek was the final nail in Sammy's metaphorical and possibly literal coffin.

This was it. She was dead. Jax and Joella were dating. RIP Samantha Meeks.

“Tapestry business?” She spoke a little too soon, her voice a little too high, as she demanded more information. Laila's statement hadn't given her enough to really gain anything. Sammy had read enough teen novels and seen enough sitcoms and dramas to not have an inkling of what Laila must have known, must have seen, but she so desperately wanted to be wrong. “What tapestry business?”

Laila

November 06, 2016 6:46 PM
Laila nodded. It seemed that she had inadvertently stumbled across the very subject that she had earlier resolved not to ask him about and so didn't press for more details. "Resilience is a trait to be admired," she commented lightly, thinking of how much Gilbert the hybrid had been put through by his brother and his brother's frenemy, Kern.

"I suppose my summer was on the pleasanter side, our family trip out to the penninsula went off without a hitch so that was really lovely, and I got to catch up with my brother which I was really happy about. It's really hard being away from him all year."

Laila and her brother were really close despite the little annoyances and she had found herself praying on numerous occasions that he, too, had magic and was just a late bloomer.

Madeleine

November 06, 2016 6:54 PM
Madeleine felt duped. Kellen was either a a really good actor and part of the Irish mob or else he was as boring as all get out and she was wasting her time. Seriously, who knew that much about a sloppy looking breakfast item?

"That's interesting," she said. If she was going to find out if Kellen really was a threat to Farrah's well-being then she was going to have to act interested in the things that Kellen enjoyed talking about. "Is it better with milk? I'm not lactose intolerant, so that wouldn't be a problem for me."

Kellen went on to ask Madeleine about her breakfast and she realised that the supposed "threat" to Farrah was no more a dangerous wizard than one who was over-obsessed with the topic of breakfast foods.

"Some fruit and toast," she replied, thinking about the lovely berries and buttered toast she had left by Bastien who was probably eating them right now, angry with her for having abandoned him. She was really starting to wish she had never left.

"Do you ever eat fruit for breakfast?"

Joella

November 06, 2016 6:59 PM
Joella should've known it would happen. If she had been in their shoes, she would've wanted to know, she would've wanted the juicy details. But that didn't mean she was going to give it to them. She and Jax had agreed they weren't keeping secrets but at the same time it was their thing and Joella didn't know if she felt comfortable revealing too much, at least not with his friends. They were her friends too, of course, but not to the same degree.

She couldn't help the guilty smile that spread across her lips when Gia cottoned on first but then she started speaking Greek to her brother and the others stepped in.

The Pecari tried to hide her surprise when Laila mentioned the tapestry. How did she know about that?

"Busted," Joella said simply, holding her hands up to make a joke of it all before helping herself to some salad.

She hadn't realised it until now but if there was anyone in the group that she'd share her business with it was Sammy. She would have thought it would be Gia but there was only so much she could tell Jax's sister, and that wasn't in terms of things about Jax himself so much. As for Laila, well she didn't feel she knew her well enough, but she seemed to be the most clued up about what was going on.

Laila had also been the lucky girl who Jax had taken to the ball last term. Was it possible that the two of them were closer than Joella realised? Or had Laila really just happened to be in the wrong/right place at the wrong/right time?

Dustin

November 06, 2016 7:12 PM
“Family is important,” Dustin noted with a nodd, doing his best not to think too hard about the compliment to his resilience she had just given. That was good trait for any heir, especially one palced in such trying times as he. “I'm glad you got to spend time with your brother.”

“My little sister is here this year, in Aladren,” he commented back idly. “And our brother will be here next year. Don't get me wrong, because I do love them, but let me just say that sometimes it's a lot better when you can have some distance.” Dustin was tempted back toward his grumpy mood from earlier since Florence was the reason he'd been that way before, but at least talking about her with someone tolerable like Laila wasn't as bad as actually being around the first year and her nonstop questions and attention-seeking.

“I guess Makenzie probably felt that way when I showed up, though,” he added almost to himself in moderate contemplation. He'd never really thought to consider how he pestered her and judged her. Maybe he wasn't really much better.

Gia and Jax

November 06, 2016 7:15 PM
Both Donovans stopped talking when Laila brought up the tapestry. Gia looked completely confused by the question and Jax looked utterly flabbergasted that Laila had even known about that. Joella joked about it though so Jax relaxed a little. It wasn't as if they had done anything wrong when they had gone into the hidden stair case. But it unnerved him all the same that they had been noticed. Like his privacy had been taken from him in some way. It wasn't, of course, but he couldn't help the feeling.

“We had a private conversation a couple of days ago and used the stairway as the place to do it.” Jax replied with a shrug. He said it more to ease Gia's confusion than anything else, but he didn't see why both Laila and Sammy seemed so troubled by the news. Or, at least, Sammy was based on the way her voice sounded. Laila wasn't looking at him, so he was uncertain of her feelings.

Gia looked at Sammy cautiously. She remembered the letter from last term and how Sammy felt. The smile she had for her brother and for Joella faltered slightly because she had just realized what this all meant for her best friend. Gia placed a hand on her friend's knee and gave it a squeeze. She hoped it was a subtle hint to her friend that she was there for her. She wanted to support her brother but she also didn't want to hurt her friend either.

Emmy-Lou was most alarmed when a boy made a sudden noise and she looked up to see him standing with his wand drawn. She quickly dodged to one side to avoid a book that came hurtling towards her.

"What the-" she began but then he spoke and it became apparent to her what had happened. All that for a book slamming onto the table?

Emmy couldn't help herself from creasing up with laughter. There was something so comical about the whole thing and the way that the boy now stood with his hand on his heart.

Eventually her laughter subsided and she stooped to pick up the book. "Lethifolds?" she queried. "Ever consider reading something a little less... scary?" At least, she assumed it had his hair on end considering the extremity of his reaction to her.

November 06, 2016 7:28 PM
Laila only raised an eyebrow in response to Jax's justification. Knowing Jax, it was likely there was truth in what he had said but the way he had started when she'd first brought it up coupled with Joella's 'busted' reaction caused Laila to feel as though she had correctly interpreted what had transpired between the two.

She shrugged in response, her blood rushing in her ears so that she barely noticed that Sammy, too was having a negative reaction to the news and went back to her green beans. "Either way, congratulations!" She sent the both a happy looking grin, drawing on her memories of bonding with Dustin and how excited she was to plan and throw the Halloween party. "You look cute together."

That last bit killed her to say it, but if it made Jax happy then who was she to get in the way?

AQC, Arne Reinhardt

November 06, 2016 7:36 PM
Although he disagreed with Alistair's decision to have an inexperienced Chaser team and a Seeker which had never played in a Sonora match before, he didn't say anything. Giving constructive criticism on the way the captain managed the team was something that Arne felt strongly was well within his rights as assistant captain, but something told him Alistair Johnson of the Arizona Johnsons would just take this as a personal attack.

So instead of saying anything, he just nodded thoughtfully as he went over what he could possibly say in response to such a vain notion that Alistair was the solution to Crotalus' lack of a Seeker. “Speaking of Park, I can't believe he beat out Dill last year…” Arne shook his head, knowing that at least there was one subject which he and Alistair could bond over. He might not have liked his captain as a person much and he might not have thought that Alistair and he had to be the best of friends just to work together, but having an amiable relationship was something that was important to a good working relationship.

“We're gonna work you hard this year to make sure that Park and Dill are put in their places.” Arne offered Alistair a lazy grin, the sort he wore in class after making a joke. It was the sort of comment he'd make to any of his friends and held no malice but rather a tone of friendly sports-jesting.

Sammy

November 06, 2016 7:40 PM
Busted? BUSTED?! Yup, this was officially the actual worst day of Sammy's life. Jax made it sound like they'd just talked or whatever, but she couldn't imagine nothing else had happened. Nobody got that close in proximity to a girl like Joella Curtis in a private place and didn't reach out for her, didn't try to hold her, didn't kiss her. The real thing busted here was Sammy's heart.

But even Laila offered congratulations and said how cute they were. “Yeah, congrats, guys!” Sammy forced out with a smile. She felt Gia's hand on her knee and knew full well what her little squeeze meant, but it didn't make the false enthusiasm burn her throat any less.

“Well, I'd better go,” she announced, standing upright and letting Gia's hand fall away from her leg. “I think I left the oven one.” Sammy was totally blank for any reasonable excuse, so she hoped using one that was obviously not true would make it play like a joke. “I'm so happy for you guys, though. Seriously. Congratulations. See you later.” She took long, quick steps away from their table, leaving behind, for perhaps the first time in her life, an almost untouched meal. All of a sudden, she wasn't very hungry.

Laila

November 06, 2016 7:52 PM
Laila had always wondered how other families fared at Sonora. She knew that the Reinhardts had their weird dynamic but she wasn't sure just how normal that was. She and Gabe didn't fight as much as Tobi and Arne did, and they also didn't have a huge family the way some of the others did. There were all her cousins on her mom's side back in Italy, of course, and all her cousins from her dad's side in Turner's Point but in their house it was just her and Gabe.

As such, she didn't really have much to offer Dustin other than a consoling smile since even when she and Gabe had been around each other all the time distance was never something they'd wanted. "I guess siblings can be like that," she said speaking from her observations of the Reinhardts versus her own experiences. "But I think you're really lucky to have your here. And I'm sure Makenzie only acted like she was annoyed. I know if Gabe were to come here I'd pretend to be annoyed with him, but I miss being the one he could come to with all his problems and giving him advice."

Capt. Ali Johnson

November 06, 2016 8:05 PM
Alistair shrugged. Clark Dill had such a good track record that no one could claim his success was just luck, even if they wanted to, and Alistair had watched him often enough to note the older boy's tactics and patterns. He was also aware to some degree, however, of Dill's commitments off the pitch and he wondered if he'd taken on too much and this had lead to his downfall. This had been one of the things that had softened the blow for Alistair when he had not been selected as prefect. No prefect duties meant more time to dedicate to Quidditch and all related training.

"Park's not bad," he admitted begrudgingly. "It'll be interesting to see how Dill responds this year."

Alistair read the look on Arne's face to imply that he was joking about but that didn't mean he wasn't irritated by his teammate's words. He was aware that he had a lot to prove, going up as Seeker for the first time against the established Pecari and Aladren talent, but he knew it wasn't outside his abilities.

What his team, and the rest of the school, didn't know was how he spent his time away from Sonora, and whilst that wasn't quite the same thing, Alistair believed it would at least lull Aladren into a false sense of security. Pecari, on the other hand, had a captain who knew almost everything about him when it came to Quidditch.

"Yeah, well, Seeker might be the position I go pro with," Alistair told Arne casually. It was the truth but he only deigned to share it because the thought of his assistant captain doubting him was not something he saw favourably. Arne was right though - Alistair sure had his work cut out for him, in terms of his own training and coaching the team.

Joella almost wished the ground could swallow her up when Laila congratulated her and Jax. What even was that about? She was definitely regretting joining the table.

"Hey, Sammy, wait," Joella started to get up to follow after her friend, glad to be provided with a reason to leave. "I needed to talk to you about the team-" she started but then broke off mid-sentence because Sammy didn't seem like she was going to wait for her.

"Oookay then," she sat back down, then it registered what Sammy had said and she looked at the others in confusion. "Wait, what did she say? She left the what on?"

Arne grinned as Alistair admitted his opponents' abilities. "Maybe they'll be so focused on beating each other out they'll let their guard down around us."

He thought that they were getting along okay until Alistair brought up going pro. Couldn't the other boy see that Arne was trying to bury the hatchet? Move on from their silly squabbles earlier on? Arne was older now, he realized that civility, at least, was key to working well together.

"If you can go pro on Seeker, that would be really neat," Arne said instead. "We'll have to make sure that Snitch is yours. Can you imagine if you played Seeker in school for only three years and then went pro? You'd be considered a prodigy, even more so than Clark Dill!"

It was true that Clark Dill was probably the best Seeker at their school. "I don't mind running extra Beater drills with you if you want, you already have the advantage of several years of dodging Bludgers as a Chaser..." Suddenly everything was coming together for Arne. He was in planning mode. He didn't care if all of this was going to make Alistair look good so long as it meant Crotalus won.

"I was actually thinking that it could be beneficial for everyone on the team to have individual training with the Beaters since we have so many new players. Getting them used to dodging. And since you'll be the Seeker now, that's a whole target on you all game unlike before."

Jax and Gia

November 06, 2016 8:30 PM
Their reactions were the exact thing that he did not want with all of this. He just wanted fun and carefree. He just wanted to spend time with Joella and not think about anything else. He didn't want it to be a big deal. He and Joella were having fun but it shouldn't be made out into this big thing. He looked at Joella to see how she was handling the attention because he certainly didn't know what to say about and it worried that if he said anything at all, it would come off sounding wrong. What he wanted to do was start this dinner over again and pretend that none of this had happened.

Sammy's sudden decision to depart when the meal had only just begun had both Donovans looking at her in surprise. Jax was utterly dumbfounded by her response and wondered what was going on with her but Gia knew what it was and when her friend stood up, forcing Gia's supportive hand away as she did so, she felt her heart break for her friend. She knew that if Diana or Phoebe (or even Barnaby if she was being honest with herself) suddenly was dating someone, she would have been torn to shreds. When Sammy left suddenly, Gia stood up. “Oh, you know Sammy. Always joking.” Gia said absentmindedly to Joella. “We'll talk later, okay?” She said pointedly to Joella and to her brother. “I've got a lot of things to do, so I'm going to head out.” She didn't wait for anyone to respond as she quickly left the table to run after her best friend.

It took all Laila's restraint to not ask Gia to stay behind but it would have looked so weird if she had insisted that. Gia was Sammy's best friend, after all, it was just logical for her to be the one to go see what was wrong with Sammy. But to be left with Joella and Jax when Laila felt so stupid for ever thinking that Jax could have liked her? That was not an enjoyable alternative.

“So carrots,” Laila said feebly, trying to use anything she could think of to make what had all just happened seem like the usual. If she could act like she wasn't falling apart inside, maybe Jax and Joella could act like they hadn't just announced their relationship to the rest of them. They could just have a normal dinner and then she could leave up to her room and cry alone. “They're pretty…orange.”

She trailed off kind of awkwardly. Yeah, she had no idea where she was going with that one. “I once saw a TV episode where a man turned orange from eating too many of them. That was weird. I didn't think that was possible…”

Joella

November 06, 2016 8:50 PM
Joella had no idea what was going on. Why was everyone leaving? Why was she stuck here with Laila talking about carrots? Laila was so weird... How had she never picked up on this before?

It would be so much easier if Jax hung out with guys. They would never have had to have this conversation in the first place. They would never have got all these "congratulations" and "we're so happy for you's" because it wouldn't be such a big deal. Joella and Jax weren't dating and they were okay with that but having everyone else seem to think they were something serious made her feel uncomfortable.

She thought it must be her who had changed because she'd never found the group uncomfortable before, just fun. Joella knew it was mean to be thinking unkindly about Jax's friends and it wasn't that she didn't like them, it was just... complicated. And complicated was the one thing she and Jax weren't meant to be. Could it be possible that this thing would be over before it had hardly begun?

Joella would have told Laila to shut up had she not feared the younger girl would take it the wrong way. So instead she smiled and said, "Pass us the carrots, would you?"

She glanced sideways at Jax, wondering if she could convey in just a look the phrase 'what the hell is going on?'

Alistair

November 06, 2016 8:52 PM
Alistair was surprised at how enthused Arne suddenly became about him playing Seeker. Was he trying to rub it in Alistair's face that he was only now getting to play Seeker for the school team and it might be too late? No, for once the younger Reinhardt boy didn't seem to be trying to antagonize him.

"Yeah that could work," Alistair nodded. He didn't want to spend more time with Arne but the other boy had his uses and he had learnt by now to put all personality matters away when it came to Quidditch.

He supposed it was a good sign that Arne was showing interest and coming up with ideas since it would likely be him running the team in several years but right now this was still Alistair's team and it felt rather premature that Arne would be sharing ideas before he'd even seen what Alistair's training plans were. Alistair always had an entire training plan worked out for his team so he would have preferred if Arne had waited until seeing that before giving his input.

Still, he couldn't afford to squash enthusiasm which was certainly something his team had seemed to lack in the past. "Our new players are Chasers, and there's a lot more to that then dodging bludgers. But it would be good to make sure we focus on all aspects, so we will include that. If you're willing to do one-on-one, then that's really useful," Alistair nodded. "We have to be careful with first years and bludger-training though," he added, perhaps because of his own first year bludger horrors. Maybe that was what was irritating him, that Arne was so insistent on reminding him how much more of a target he'd be for the opposing Beaters. It wasn't that Alistair was scared of them after playing for so many years, but knowing that he had a weak spot that he couldn't afford to get hit could be unsettling when he had so much riding on that not happening.

He knew that Gia was happy for him because she had told him repeatedly do just go for it and he knew that she was happy for Joella too, so he understood her behavior. But the others? What the hell was going on? Why did Sammy run off and why did Laila suddenly start talking about carrots? Okay, maybe she realized how weird this all was and was now trying to make it funny? He couldn't say for certain.

He caught the look that Joella was giving him and he shrugged. He really didn't have an answer for her. “Well, this whole thing was weird.” Jax mumbled, shaking his head. “Seriously, what the-“ Jax cursed. He was so frustrated by these events and it irked him.

“Well, if I can't choose, my mom has plenty of ideas for me,” he sighed, pulling a face. Lack of ideas wasn't really the problem. It was more the lack of interest in doing any of them.

“Who wants to be a grown up? You just have to pay bills and go grocery shopping and boring stuff.”

He was glad it was Sammy that had joined him. Ok, he wasn't exactly bearing his soul right now, but for Jamie it was pretty close. He was being serious, and talking about feelings and stuff. Sammy was someone he actually got on with, and who wasn't going to throw that stuff back in his face.

“But like you say, at least there's one more year. One more year of Quidditch with you guys and elf-provided bacon,” he grinned, his way of thanking her for being cool about the whole thing. He held up a rasher on a fork. “Cheers.”

“Thank you,” Jemima smiled as Gia complimented her, relieved she didn't seem to have made a faux pas in how she evaluated Gia's outfit. Although it seemed it was a sensitive issue. Or at least, something the girl was worried about.

“No!” she declared, as Gia asked if her outfit was wrong. “I mean… I don't think so. I haven't been to a Hallowe'en party like this before either. But I asked around, and people said the original idea was to be creepy but most people just dress up as whatever they like. But I don't think there can be a right or wrong when it comes to dressing up - it's supposed to be fun. And your make-up is super cool. Did you do that all by yourself?”

Laila

November 06, 2016 9:16 PM
Laila was just passing Joella the carrots when she caught the look the older girl gave Jax and heard Jax's response. They were reading each other's minds now? If that wasn't the most coupley of all things. She bit her lip and tried really hard not to cry when Jax sounded frustrated. It was all just so much. It was supposed to have been a simple dinner but then one thing after another had happened and in such a short amount of time too. She really didn't want to cry but the stress of it all was compounding and she couldn't leave or else Jax would know that she liked him and she really couldn't have that. She was supposed to be happy for them.

The solitary curse word from Jax, however broke the dam. At home, her parents never cursed. Her mother didn't like it and her father (whose mouth had been rather dirty before his marriage to Leonora) had cleaned it up once he'd had children. Hearing something like that come out of the mouth's of one of her friends, especially when it was likely due to something that she and her other friends had done was just too much. Laila felt absolutely horrible. About everything.

“I'm sorry!” she exclaimed as she burst into tears. “I don't know what's going on, I don't know what you want from me, I was just trying to be supportive! Can't we just pretend like this never happened?”

Well, so much for not crying in front of anyone ever again. God really was punishing her, it seemed. First thing tomorrow morning she was going to go ask Headmaster Brockert if he couldn't obliviate her and send her home so she could forget all about this terrible night and be a normal, boring Muggle again.

Ginger

November 06, 2016 9:39 PM
Ginger was walking around in the gardens following her final class of the day in Herbology. She loved the gardens. They were always so pretty and peaceful. She turned a corner of the labyrinth and broke into a wide smile as she came across another person. "Hello! Fancy meeting you here! It's a beautiful day, isn't it?" And it was. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, the birds were chirping, and the temperature was that perfect mid-fall temperature that was ten degrees warmer than the previous few days but nowhere near the uncomfortable heat of summer so it felt just absolutely glorious out.

Kellen

November 06, 2016 9:40 PM
Kellen's brow furrowed slightly when Madeleine declared his oatmeal tangent as being interesting. What? Was he being punked or something? He looked around the room momentarily before turning his attention back to the French girl. This was, truly, one of the strangest conversations he'd ever had.

“I like it better with milk, it tends to make it creamier than water does. That's good that you're not intolerant to lactose. Aren't French foods generally pretty rich? And there are a lot of fancy cheeses, right? I don't know much about France to be honest. I do know that pomplamoose means grapefruit, and I know like, 17 other words.” He decided that maybe he should seem interested in her, since she was possibly just trying to get to know him and getting stuck on the fact that he was still eating breakfast. Kellen wasn't sure, but France seemed more interesting to talk about that oatmeal. Plus, he was running out of things to say about the food in front of him.

“Fruit is good.” Kellen said, a little surprised that she hadn't had something more exotic for breakfast. “Yeah, I mean, I like fruit. I've had smoothies, or berries on pancakes or something. My mom is vegan, so we eat a lot of fruit and vegetables when I'm home. Today was just an oatmeal day I guess.”

“I feel it,” Sammy laughed. “I've got two moms. Twice the ideas. But personally,” she added, “even when I'm forced to be an adult, I have no intention of growing up. And I will certainly never be boring.”

She smushed her bacon into his in perhaps the weirdest (and best) toast in all of human history. “Cheers,” she grinned back before stuffing the piece of bacon in her mouth. “We're so gonna dominate Quidditch again this year,” she said through her mouthful. “After all, we've got a championship title to defend, and just the Seeker to do it.” Sammy normally wouldn't flatter him (even if it was basically the truth), but Jamie seemed like he could need it today.

Kit

November 07, 2016 1:36 AM
Kit raised an eyebrow when Louis made quite a scene with some of the girls at their table, interrupting current conversation. He was certainly attractive, but it was more in an observable way than anything else. After all, he was on her Quidditch team and anyone on the team was obviously out of bounds for crushes. It just didn't mix when she had to make sure to be focused in games. Besides, there were other crush worthy boys that were more within reach. However, it was definitely reputation boosting that an older boy noticed Gwen, which was approved of.

A shift in topic brought attention back to the conversation at hand. She nodded attentively while nibbling on a berry. She had no idea what would be required at the fair. Swallowing, she contributed after Amelia, “Wow, that's amazing that you can cook! I've never really tried to. But the dressing up part I think would be fun, especially since we're doing another country. Can you imagine if we did Japan? We could wear kimonos.” She didn't think they would actually get to do Japan, but it was certainly something to think about.

Curious. It appeared that the arrow met its mark, but it was further away from where hers was. Had Winston intentionally allowed her another question or was he showing that he could make his mark? Either way, she was pleased, because his shot had looked good, but she also go to ask another question. "Hmm, I have to think for a moment," she teased slightly. Truthfully, she already knew what she was going to ask. "If you could choose to live in any time period, which one would you choose?"

Ayla

November 07, 2016 3:17 AM
Was it hot in the MARS room? It certainly felt that way to Ayla. So many things were running through her head, and the feelings...she couldn't even begin to comprehend the feelings. Her cheeks were on fire and her stomach was suddenly full of butterflies. Victor definitely had the charming part of being a prince down. Ayla looked down at her hooves and brushed her blonde hair back behind her real ear as she desperately tried to hold on to her composure. All of the day dreaming she'd done had done absolutely nothing to prepare her for this actually happening. The petite blonde looked back up at the handsome prince, positively beaming.

“You're sweet.” She said in a hushed tone, to avoid anyone else overhearing. “In the most manly and heroic of ways, of course.” She added, still reeling from the fact that Victor basically just admitted that he liked spending time with her. She enjoyed it too, more than was probably appropriate for a lady to display, but it was really hard to care about any of that when a boy like Victor was paying attention to you. Plus, he was super cute, and from a good family. How could that possibly be a bad thing?

“My hero!” Ayla teased, as she clasped her hands together and brought them to her cheek, swooning. “Speaking of spending time with me, would you like to escort me to the snack table for a cupcake, Your Highness?” Not that she needed more sugar, but the young witch thought that maybe eating something would help calm her nerves.

“I don't think I could sleep.” Kellen said, seriousness in his voice. “Then again, you didn't tell her she was a horrible person with a huge ego, so I think you're pretty safe.” A smile crossed his lips when Farrah said she had his back. It was nice to feel like someone actually cared about him--besides his mom. “I appreciate that. I've got your back too.” He meant it, at this point, he was starting to feel like there wasn't much that he wouldn't do for Farrah. He'd promised to give ice skating on a real pond a go! That was kind of a big deal for him, granted, he had a year to work up to it, per their agreement. He was going to hold up his end, if it was the last thing he did. Iit might be the last thing he did too, because if he couldn't conquer his fear, he was just positive that it was going to kill him.

Kellen glanced over at Farrah as they moved down the fall. “I guess it does.” He was sure that Farrah was joking, but he definitely felt that was lucky to have her as a friend. He didn't quite understand why she was so quick to clarify that she was also best friends with Georgia, he had assumed that she knew that he knew that. He shrugged it off anyway. It wasn't like he expected to be the only person in Farrah's world.

“I had another best friend at one point...a tortoiseshell cat that I'd sneak into my room at my dads...but it turned out it was just my mom.”

Joella

November 07, 2016 6:33 AM
Joella was rather alarmed when Laila started crying, and very very confused. She still wanted to leave the table but two too many people had already done that and she couldn't exactly leave Jax to deal with an upset teenage girl. Part of being a prefect meant she was supposed to help younger students and it was rather inconsiderate to leave someone who was crying anyway.

"Hey," Joella said softly. "Don't worry about it. You aren't meant to say anything - it's not a big deal."

Joella didn't understand why Laila thought she had to be "supportive", like it had anything to do with her. Quite frankly none of this was anyone's business besides Joella and Jax's and whilst she totally understood that this was this kind of stuff friends wanted to know about because people were nosy like that, they weren't supposed to have any input or involvement and these guys were just making the whole thing so weird.

"I'm sorry if I interrupted something," she spoke a little hesitantly, trying to be sympathetic and tactful when she really had no clue what was going on. It was clear that Laila had something else going on, since she had so suddenly been reduced to tears, and Joella did feel bad that her arrival had brought about a new conversation without any regard to what they might have been talking about previously. "What's the matter? Has something bad happened?" Well that much was obvious but Joella didn't want to pry, only to help. "Do you want to talk about it?"

"Or we could go and find Gia?" she offered. She wasn't sure where Gia had got to but she did know the Greek would be a whole lot better at this than her, and she also knew Laila better so the Crotalus might be more comfortable talking about what was going on with her.

Alistair

November 07, 2016 6:52 AM
Alistair left Herbology class but took a slight detour through the gardens rather than heading straight back to the main school building. He had a lot of his mind and something about the bright sun and fresh air was appealing.

The fifth year certainly didn't believe in fate but it was a pretty neat coincidence that he happened to cross paths with Ginger along his walk. "Yes, very," he smiled but he wasn't even looking around anymore now that Ginger was here.

"Well this is a surprise. It's been a while," he commented, referring to the fact that he hardly got the chance to hang out with Ginger anymore. Ever since Teppalus had divided he'd seen less of her and then after witnessing her kissing Jake Manger, he may have been guilty of intentionally avoiding her whilst he figured things out. "How are you?"

It was strange to think how close he had come to revealing his feelings to her but now he wondered if it was time to just bury them once and for all.

Jax's blue eyes went wide as Laila burst into tears. He knew that Laila was fickle sometimes but he had no idea she was this sensitive about things before. It wasn't as though his frustration over everything was directed at her. He had only been expressing himself over the whole event.

He heard Joella trying to console the fourth year and he felt bad for her. It wasn't as if she had done anything wrong but her hug had caused chaos and he had no idea why. "I'm sorry, Laila." Jax apologized quietly to his friend. "I didn't mean to upset you. It was just everyone reacted so weird about something that isn't even serious." He looked to Joella to make sure she didn't take that the wrong way.

"You did nothing wrong. I appreciate the support." He added, hoping that he and Joella were helping her somewhat.

It had been nice sharing the pitch with her in the past but only more recently had he come to accept that it was okay. "Totally," he grinned, at the idea of them taking the Quidditch season by storm. "Got quite the little firecracker beater too," he returned her compliment. He'd always been a bit detached from the rest of the team, believing himself special and separate, but he actually liked working with Sammy. "Go team," he grinned, actually meaning it.

Liac Reinhardt and Shinohara Uzume

November 07, 2016 9:13 AM
"I still don't get it," Uzu said moving the hair slightly out of her face to sip at her cup of pumpkin juice.

"You don't have to, I do and the evidence shows its a perfect fit," Liac responded as he blew some bubbles out of his pretend pipe. Uzu only glared at him.

"See right there, you make the perfect Sadako!" He laughed, completely ignoring her.

Halloween wasn't exactly Uzume's forte. It was an American holiday after all, so she didn't have the same nostalgia her peers had for dressing up and pumpkin pies. Even so, she did appreciate a good party. Originally she planned on just wearing a cute fall themed checker dress, however everything changed when she ran into Liac on the way to the party. Liac whom decided to dress as Sherlock Holmes, insisted she wear something a little more fitting for Halloween.

Uzu was about to give him another piece of her mind when a girl dressing in drag asked her to guess her costume. "Uh..." Uzume paused, looking at the girl's outfit. She could have been a number of things, and Uzu wasn't into pop culture enough to know if it was a certain character or celebrity. Eventually Uzu just gave up, choosing instead to take a long sip of juice to avoid answering the question entirely.

"Hmm," Liac pondered, butting in to get a look at the cute underclassmen through his comically large magnifying glass. It took him a little while to fit the pieces together, but he was pretty sure he knew what she was trying to go for. "The hair, the stare, killer mustache! I do believe the person in question is none other than Headmaster Brockert!" he exclaimed in the most over the top version of Holmes as he could.

"How're you enjoying life as an assistant captain?" the Crotalus only just remembered Ginger's position, which she had also held last year, and couldn't help thinking it was such a bummer that he was stuck with Arne whilst Liac had Ginger.

Emerald Brockert

November 07, 2016 9:51 AM
Emerald wasn't one for parties and she probably wasn't going to stay here for too long. Still, she knew Kit was in Spirit Club and she decided it would be a nice gesture to support her roommate. Hopefully she'd run into her or Amelia or Flo.

As she was scanning the room for her roommates, she heard some older students talking.

"The hair, the stare, killer mustache! I do believe the person in question is none other than Headmaster Brockert!"

Emerald frowned and turned to face them. Grandfather might not be the warmest and friendliest person but he was still her grandfather. Addressing Lily, she said in a frosty tone. "Actually my grandfather would never have his hair so choppy."

She had to admit that she took some satisfaction in Lily having destroyed her hair in order to pull this off.Emerald wasn't all that fussed about looks herself just preferring to be neat and presentable but a good many of the second year girls seemed the sort that were. Normally Emerald wasn't so vindictive and spiteful but this was low, mocking someone's grandpa.

Besides, Lily was getting off easy. Topaz would have hexed her.

Emerald Brockert

November 07, 2016 11:30 AM
Emerald had rather not quite been sure about the first year girls' luncheon but Angelique had rather pushed her into going. Angelique was in a year group where most of the girls had all bonded together as a group other than Angelique, her roommate and Tasha DuBois. She seemed to think Emerald was lucky to have the people she did in her year as she didn't fit in with hers at all, whereas Emerald having a ton of roommates meant that there were other girls who were the intellectual sort.

Plus, Ayla was from a good pureblood family. Actually most of the girls were, save for Salali and Amelia. And Flo's family had been involved in recent scandal. But overall, they were a proper bunch. No wonder Angelique was jealous.

So, Emerald went so as not to offend the Teppenpaw. And to shut her cousin up.

"Hello everyone." She greeted her female classmates. "I'll think about doing the fair. I mean, it's educational and fun at the same time." Of course, Emerald normally thought educational and fun were the same thing anyway.

Finn Scott

November 07, 2016 11:33 AM
The moment he woke up, Finn knew that today wasn't going to be a great day. It was one of those mornings where something just felt slightly off. It was probably to do with the letter he'd received from his parents yesterday. Finn loved getting letters, and this one hadn't contained bad news or anything, but it had made him feel just a little homesick. Coupled with last night's dream of being back home in Maryland, the feeling had continued through to this morning.

Finn wasn't one to wallow, so he forced himself to get up, get dressed, and go down to the Cascade Hall for breakfast. He didn't see Jozua or Juniper anywhere. Presumably his roommate had plans with Lily or something, and it was sometimes too easy to miss Juniper at the weekend. That was the problem with being in different dorms - not that sharing a room would be at all proper. After breakfast, he went to the library and managed to get some work done, returning to the Teppenpaw common room late morning. That feeling was still there.

He was just wondering what he could do next (moping would only make things worse, so he was determined to find an activity) when he spotted Juniper, reading on one of the sofas. That was perfect! If Juniper couldn't make him feel better, no one could.

“Hey, Juniper,” he said, curling up next to her on the sofa. He didn't want to interrupt her reading, and was content just to sit there next to her if she didn't want to talk. He felt a little better already.

Natalie was running late. She had been looking for her roommate so they could arrive together, but Salali was gone by the time she came back to the room. After looking around for her a little bit, before realizing that obviously Salali had probably already went to the luncheon. She'd then gone back to her room, showered and got ready. Which took forever.

Finally she entered the hall, only to find pretty much everyone there already. Natalie flushed. "Hi. Am I the last to arrive?"

Juniper felt on edge. At school she nearly always did, but she wanted the one person she could feel okay around.

Unfortunately, that meant leaving her room. She usually didn't unless she could be with Finn. Public places made her super anxious but being in her room with Georgia was also nerve wracking. It was nothing personal against her roommate, it was just overall uncomfortable to be around most people.

Fortunately, the common room was pretty empty today. Unfortunately, it meant Finn wasn't there either, and as that was the only thing that was going to calm her down, she stayed put and read to try to keep her mind off things.

Then there he was, next to her and she felt she could breathe properly again. "Hi." She greeted her friend putting down her book.

And she didn't want that. Finn's presence was the only thing keeping her from losing it while she was at school.

November 07, 2016 12:15 PM
Normally, Victor would hate to be called sweet. It was the obnoxious sort of term used by elderly aunts who pinched your cheeks, and the very thought of it made him shudder. However, when Ayla used the word he found he didn't mind so much. It was different, he supposed, having a girl your age call you sweet. That wasn't a sign of being treated like a little boy. If anything, it was probably the completely opposite, so he took pride in being considered sweet. Her additional sentence helped, too. Really she was saying she thought he was manly and heroic, and Victor felt as if he was living up to his costume.

Then Ayla mentioned cakes, and the whole conversation somehow got even better. Ayla and cake? Bring it on.

“Of course, my lady,” he replied with a grin, offering his arm in an exaggerated old-fashioned and rather princely way.

However, if you were you now and went back, then you already know who you are, but it would be simply in a different time and therefore, you would have the advantage of knowing things that have happened and will happen." Honestly, the girl was either entirely stupid or just a mean spirited little snot. Now Emerald rather felt like hexing her too. She wished she knew something about one of Lily's relatives so she could show her how it felt. Still at the moment, all she had to go on was Lily herself. And she was probably worse than her relatives. She found herself saying. "I hope she does." Hopefully Lily would get it this time. Either she would interpret it as Emerald wanting her to be in trouble or she wished ill on the older girl's mother. It was completely the former, but if Lily assumed it was the latter, which it wasn't as Lily's mother had probably suffered enough having Lily for a daughter, then Emerald could easily turn it around on her.

Liac and Uzu

November 07, 2016 2:37 PM
Uzu couldn't help but feel annoyed, one because Liac was an idiot that couldn't keep his volume to a minimum, but also because the two of them were now in the middle of something she would rather not be apart of. Still maybe the girls would end up dueling. Finding the prospect interesting, she decided to stick around a little longer. Could be fun to watch.

Liac smiled bright when the underclassman looked excited. Although he still shared Shino's slight discomfort, he chose to handle it a different way- by laughing it off. "Yes, I am a detective. Although my dear Watson isn't here with me right now," he chuckled trying to give her a hint, "And if I may say, I find your hair looks really cute like that." Liac fancied himself as much more of a Robert Downey jr. kind of Holmes, which fit his flirty personality perfectly.

Fabian was munching on the Unofficial Teenage Boy Breakfast of bacon and milk and bacon when he was interrupted by one of the third years in his house.

"Oh, congratulations. So am I but it's not really a new experience for me. Is this your first cousin?" He meant that as in the first cousin that Ben had not as in someone whose parent was his parent's sibling. In his family, the distinction came up.

Kit

November 07, 2016 2:52 PM
"Oh, I think it's in the library," Kit said, referring to the book. Working in the library, she had gotten to know it a little more intimately than if she had just studied there. Of course, most times she saw things just in passing, because otherwise, she would have ended up picking out things to read rather than doing actual work. Instead, she tried to keep mental notes on where things were that looked interesting. She had found that one to be since it was speaking of a Wizard belonging to Oz, but the cover suggested it wasn't about their world. Recalling it a little better, she thought that there was an odd silver man on the cover. That must be what Farrah was referring to. "Yes, I think I know who you're talking about. I haven't read the book myself, but I remember the cover. Was the tin man brought to life by the wizard?"

She hadn't mentioned the rest yet, but was getting there. "Oh, and what's a movie?" Kit had no idea what that was or how it somehow related to this book. But from what Farrah said, it was obvious that she wasn't purely from the magical world. Kit dismissed that on the basis that she was practicing her socializing. Besides, her parents were here to forbid her from associating with someone that wasn't pure and that's all that mattered.

Lily

November 07, 2016 3:25 PM
Lily hadn't received the ill message before, but she certainly did by the older witch's rude comment. This whole pure-blood circle of snotty witches was contemptible and she just wanted to chat with her classmates, not feel bad for impersonating one of the Sonora staff members. Besides, clearly this uppity witch had decided to come to a Hallowe'en party without any proper fancy dress, and already that spoke volumes about her.

"I don't know who you are, but there's no need to be so rude," replied the little witch bluntly. "I'm not mocking him in any way, if that's what you're so offended by. But if you don't like it, don't stick around thinking your words are going to mean anything to me." Lily would much rather duel it out than stoop down to petty insults and she wasn't apologetic in any way. Headmaster Brockert was a staff member of Sonora and therefore open to fair impersonations by students.

She turned her attention then to Liac who had decided ignoring the tense situation was the right way to go. Lily was pleased by his compliment. "Watson?" It took her a moment before her eyes brightened in understanding. "Oh! You're Sherlock Holmes! My brother used to read those mysteries to me." She liked mysteries, but Lily was much more interested in action stories. "What's your favourite mystery by him?"

Ayla

November 07, 2016 4:05 PM

Ayla happily took Victor's arm, her heart so full she thought it might actually burst out of her chest. She liked the way he'd said ‘my lady' too, even though she knew he was likely just playing along. She kind of wished she'd picked a different costume for herself, something more like Kit's, but still she couldn't help but feel pretty on Victor's arm. She smiled at him as they wove their way through the crowd to the snack table.

There was a nagging voice in the back of her mind that made her wonder what other people might think about them, but she was too happy to care. She would, however, be discussing the situation with Gwen and Kit later.

“Ooo! There they are.” She said, flashing him a dimpled smile as they approached the dessert table. Some of the pumpkin cupcakes had icing that was a little.. wonky. Those had been the ones that Ayla had helped with, not that she'd admit to it. She took two and handed one to Victor. She immediately popped the candy pumpkin that topped the cakes into her mouth, and waited for him to try his with her fingers crossed. “What do you think? Is it awful?” She asked, wrinkling her painted nose.

Jozua

November 07, 2016 4:15 PM
Jozua did not yelp as Lily attacked him. A year ago, he probably would have, but he was kind of used to her exuberance now and while he was not particularly demonstrative himself, he tolerated it from his best friend and upon hearing her words, he grinned and gave her a quick rare hug back. "That's great!" he congratulated her, knowing she must be ecstatic to have gotten first string Chaser this time.

He shook his head as she asked about his own position on Teppenpaw's team. "Nah, reserve again, but I'm okay with that," he promised. "If we do play together, I just hope it's not Liac who got sick again. Beater is not my forte." After his performance at try-outs, he felt it only fair to share his conclusion on his best position, "I may not make the team til Ginger graduates and frees up Keeper. That's the only one I'm really any good at right now."

Lily thought Keeper was too dull for her, but it seemed like a position that would fit Jozua. Not that he was dull, certainly. She was even more happy by his congratulations. "Well, maybe we can practise together and help you improve! I think you did rather well being thrown into your first match so unexpectedly.

"We never really got to properly catch up after summer. How did it feel being back home during the summer?" Lily was rubbish at keeping up through correspondence; she much preferred face-to-face conversations.

Farrah

November 07, 2016 5:13 PM
Farrah laughed. "That's true. You did insult her, but I'm sure she probably agreed with it privately. And, at least you didn't insult her looks or clothes. I feel like that would be more of an issue for her." Farrah commented. She wasn't blind, she knew how vain her roommate was. "Good, I'm glad to know someone will look for me when she stashes me somewhere." FARRAH continued the joke.

She listened as Kellen told her about his animal friend and it nearly broke her heart when he revealed it to be his own mother. She felt the urge to just pull him into a big hug and never let go. Farrah couldn't imagine not having any real friends back home.

She rested her head against his shoulder, the closest thing she could do as a hug while they walked and squeezed his arm. "You're adorable." She said, unsure as to why that came out of her mouth. "You'll have to come visit me during the summer or I can visit you that way, you'll have a best friend there too."

"Sure, we could do that," Jozua said casually, as if having another excuse to share experiences and bond with Lily hadn't been precisely why he joined Quidditch in the first place.

And then the subject was abruptly dropped. He'd come to expect such turns from conversations with Lily, so he took the track change in stride. Neither was he, given the long time it took for owl post to travel between Oregon and England, surprised their correspondence had sort of fizzled over the summer, though he had been sure to post her at least once a month so she knew he was still thinking about her.

"It was fine. Mom and Dad have not accepted that I am no longer home-schooled and tried to fit in an entire years' worth of lessons in three months. But it was fine. It was good to see them again."

"That makes it easier," Winston admitted, "in that it introduces fewer variables, but harder because it opens up all of history instead of confining me to just when my family was well off, assuming I'd still be a Pierce." He thought it over for a moment. "I'm going to go with the Renaissance. Thing were pretty interesting in there, but not in the death-and-war kind of interesting. I'd love to talk with some of the great charm inventors of that time, maybe even work with them, so hopefully I'd have time to brush up on my conversational Latin first."

Ginger

November 07, 2016 6:09 PM
"I'll keep an eye on her," she promised, feeling pretty sure Alistair had no idea at all how true that statement was. The Secret Cabal of Keepers was, well, secret. She'd never told him that Liliana had taken her under her wing, and she doubted Makenzie would tell him Ginger had invited all of the school's Keepers to practice their art together.

"Being the assistant is pretty neat," she admitted. "Liac really lets me be a big part of running things, so I definitely feel like it's our team not just his."

Ayla hadn't considered the possibility of dressing up for the fair, but Amelia and Kit brought up some good points. She was going to participate for sure, particularly if it included wearing a cute outfit! "I've never really cooked anything either, but I can bake a bit. My frosting looks like...well, it could use some work." She admitted. “Emerald, welcome!” Ayla was excited to see that she'd decided to show up, and expressed interest in the fair as well.

"I don't know how sign ups work, but you should sign up, Emerald! We should try and group together!" She added with a sincere smile. It wasn't long after that Natalie showed up too! That was 8/9ths of the first year females, and Ayla was ecstatic. “Last, but not least!” She said in response to Natalie's question. Ayla grinned and looked at the girls around her. From the looks of things, they were going to get along just fine. She hoped so anyway.

Farrah

November 07, 2016 6:38 PM
Farrah nodded. The book probably was in the library and she just never noticed it because she was too absorbed in all the magical books that she had yet to read or see before or know of in all the ways that made her an Aladren. She didn't think of the fact that there might be Non-Magical literature in the Sonora library, but now that she knew, she might have to go look to see what their selection was.

"Oh, um..." Farrah paused. She had never had to describe a movie before. Georgia and Kellen were both half and knew of the Non-Magical world, so it wasn't something that ever came up before. "Well, basically actors, you have actors in the Magical world, right?" Farrah asked. "Performers? They take a story and sort of bring it to life by recreating it with their performance." She thought that was a decent way of explaining it without getting technical. "And people like me, the audience, watch them perform it."

Kellen

November 07, 2016 6:38 PM
“Thanks for the advice. I'll try and do better next time.” Kellen said in jest. He was sure there wouldn't be a next time, at least he hoped there wouldn't be. He felt like if he did stumble upon Arianna in an empty room he'd have to turn and run or else face her wrath. He definitely wanted to avoid that. Maybe it was her accent, but she just seemed...scrappy.

Kellen's breath hitched when Farrah not only leaned against him a little, but called him adorable. Surely she needed to get her eyes checked, he thought to himself as he wondered exactly how to respond to that. He'd been called many things in his life, but never adorable.

“Um...thanks?” He said, rubbing the back of his neck as he watched their feet move across the floor. His face was read, he could feel it, so he was thankful when she mentioned potentially visiting each other for the summer. He really liked the idea, but he couldn't exactly have her visit his father's, and he and his mom shared a tiny little apartment over the apothecary. He thought Farrah might like Portland though, and could think of a dozen different things offhand that she might like. Maybe they could stay with his grandparents for the duration. If she wanted to, of course. Then again, it was her idea.

“That would be great! We should definitely make that happen.” He said, looking over at her with a smile. “Assuming you don't have another wonderful international family adventure planned.” He'd have to figure out a way to get his mom on board without her questioning his motives. Not that they weren't completely innocent, he just wasn't sure how well it'd go over to want a girl to stay for a part of the summer. In his head, Kellen was already starting to make plans. Summers would be so much better with her at his side.

Farrah

November 07, 2016 6:53 PM
"You're welcome." Farrah replied. She had meant her compliment even though she wasn't sure why she had said it. It was such a strange moment for her to have made it, but it had felt right and even if he seemed to question it, she was not embarrassed by it. There was just something about him and his strange way of living that she found to be, well, adorable.

She was happy to hear that he wanted her to come visit. She thought maybe it would seem weird because he was a boy and she was a girl (the boys back home only made crude jokes at the girls expense), but he didn't seem all that worried. "Oh, we will probably have a vacation, but it's not for all of summer. So, we can just work around it." Farrah explained, slowing her steps slightly as they neared the Defense classroom. They would only just barely make the bell. "Thanks for walking with me!" She said one last time. It felt really good knowing someone had cared enough to check on her.

Laila

November 07, 2016 7:20 PM
It had only been a small burst of tears, more from stress and fear than actual sadness--although anyone would likely feel very sad upon the discovery that someone they liked (and thought liked them back) and just gone and gotten himself a girlfriend without so much as a preamble. Not to mention Laila could still remember seeing their feet disappearing into a secretive place.

Still, it wasn't Joella's fault for liking Jax nor Jax's fault for liking Joella really anymore than it was Laila's fault for misunderstanding whatever signals Jax had given her which weren't really signals in the first place. And at least Joella was trying to comfort her which really only made Laila feel worse because she wanted nothing more than to never see the sixth year again at that moment.

But she didn't understand. She wasn't meant to say anything? Weren't they there to announce their new status as boyfriend and girlfriend? "I thought it was only proper to congratulate someone when they tell you they're dating..." Laila said, her forehead wrinkling. "You mean you're not his gir-" She trailed off before she could finish as she was starting to realize that the whole situation was a lot more complicated than she'd originally thought.

Jax confirmed these thoughts and Laila nodded slowly, turning her attention back to Joella when the older girl kept talking. Laila bit her lip. "Not really," she said at last. "I mean, I guess there's a lot going on and stuff, but you don't have to worry about it. I just..." If only Gabe were there. He was the perfect person for her to confide in. "I miss my brother," she finished lamely.

Liac and Uzu

November 07, 2016 11:00 PM
Uzume was impressed by the girl. No doubt being in Pecari suited her she thought to herself as she chuckled a little her younger's remark. Quite the show, but a duel really would have made the party go from good to great.

"In the flesh," Liac announced proudly, happy the underclassman knew the reference since it was a muggle book. "Very good eye headmaster," Liac joked a little quieter than before. No reason to stir the pot.

"I read the books when I was a kid too, I really liked 'the dancing men'. What was your favorite?" He asked.

"My cousin Tobi actually dressed as Watson, but I'm not sure where he went," Liac stated looking around for his better half.

"They went in a couple costume." Uzume spoke up now that her cup was empty, "But ignoring the lovers," Uzu stated turning her attention back to the girl. "What's your name Mr. Headmaster?"

"I like the one with 'hound' in the title, I don't remember the full name. But something with a phantom beast. Sherlock Holmes was brilliant." Lily would have liked to see Liac's cousin so she could get the full picture, but the other girl finally spoke up to Lily's delight. "I'm Lily Spencer," replied the English witch. "What are your names?" She didn't want to try guessing just in case she was wrong.
