Giselle Duell

Giselle knew the Advanced class had plenty on their plate at the moment. Between studying, tests, the fair projects and everything else, they needed a little bit of a break. She well remembered those days, it was just a few years ago since she'd been in... well, not exactly that position, but a similar one. Giselle sincerely hoped that her students were having a much better experience with their school than she had. But it had only been.... wait, Valentine had entirely gone through her school years and then a few... oh goodness. Was she getting... old? Banishing that thought, Professor Duell prepared the room for the day's lesson. What she hoped might be a fun and not terribly stressful one.

The room was dimly lit as usual when the students entered, although it was a little bit brighter than normal. The tables and chairs were stacked up along the wall and out of the way, leaving the majority of the room completely open. Various soft, thick rugs covered the floor. Professor Duell, wearing her usual eclectic mix of mismatched attire, welcomed her students as they entered. "Place your things along the walls, out of the way. You will need your wand initially, but you may want to put that away as well once the exercise begins. Also, find a partner."

Once the students had arranged themselves, Professor Duell began. "Today we will be learning about a rather obscure method of Divinations. It isn't in your text, and I doubt that it will show up in any of your tests." She smiled, "I was hoping this would be a little fun change of pace for a day." Giselle waved her wand over the blackboard and a circle appeared with the letters of the alphabet scattered randomly around its circumference. "Each pair will use whatever means they wish to create a circle like this on the rugs in the room. Make sure they are all spread out around the room and not to close to one another. Distribute the letters as you see fit around the circle, just be sure they are all there. The circles should be about three feet in diameter."

This was all rather simple so far, so it did not take Giselle long to verify her students were all with her so far. "After that is done, we will practice the ancient art of Gyromancy. That is, you will take turns spinning around inside the circle until you become dizzy and stumble out of the circle. Note the letter at which this happens. Historically this process is then repeated until one makes an intelligible sentence, madness, or death. We will naturally stop short of the later two." Again she verified that everyone was still with her before continuing. "This is why you are in pairs. One spins and the other supervises and takes notes. Do not go more than five letters before swapping places. Also stop if you need to for whatever reason, this is supposed to be fun. It is, however, a real technique so be ready to analyze your letters at the end of the class period. You may find something interesting if you work with them a bit."

Professor Duell smiled one last time, "You may begin."
