Head Student Vote by Selina Skies
It was an interesting case study when people didn’t make the ballot. Sometimes too when they did… In this case, there were perfectly logical arguments. Such as ‘have you met him?’ to which the answer was yes, as everyone in question had been trying to teach him for seven years… Billy was a fairly obvious cut. What was possibly going to surprise some people more was that Oz wasn’t. In a lot of situations, there wasn’t a lot to separate them, but Oz had shown enough maturity and leadership during Quidditch that he would be getting the captain’s badge the following year. It was a bit contradictory to call him worthy of that honour whilst slicing him from the head student ballot.Not that anyone thought Oz was head student material, but more that it was now up to the students to not see that, because the staff couldn’t simultaneously damn and elevate him.
At least, that had been Selina’s reason for keeping him on there. Maybe others had voted him on for other reasons.
The fifth and sixth years were gathered in the hall after dinner, having been asked and reminded several times about staying behind.
“Good evening. Tonight, you have the duty of choosing Sonora’s next two head students. Head students act as leaders within our school community, working to improve it. They should be students with a solid track record, who you feel you could rely on or would trust to represent you. Please consider carefully before casting your votes, and then put them in the box up here. You are encouraged to vote for two candidates.”
With a wave of her wand, she disseminated the ballot papers.
OOC: I doubt it matters to anyone but me, but I'm setting this before the incident with Xavier just for ease.

Vote Henry! by Oz Spellman
Oz had run a pretty thorough ‘Vote Henry’ campaign. It wasn’t as flashy or as well organised as some of the other campaigns that had happened in previous years, but he had talked to everyone he thought might listen to him at least once, and some of them more than that, and even a few people who he thought wouldn’t.Where he thought someone else might be a more persuasive mouthpiece than him, he’d tasked them with spreading the word. For example, he thought Ray would be more likely to listen to Billy than him, so had encouraged his roommate to talk Henry up to her. He suspected some people were lost causes. Like Rosalynn and Tommy would probably double vote for themselves, but he’d made sure to mention that Henry would be great to both of them, just in case for some reason either of them didn’t want it (or secretly thought the other one would be terrible at it).
His general pitch was a simple ‘Vote Henry when they do head boy stuff’ or ‘Henry would make a great head boy,’ though he was also able to back it up with reasons if it seemed like he had someone’s ear or they doubted his word.
Henry was a good student, and super conscientious. Like, Oz had learnt that word pretty early on in life from how frequently it was applied to his brother (and never him).
He was patient as heck. After all, he’d put up with Oz since pre-birth.
He was just an all round good guy.
He was good at talking to adults and there seemed to be some kind of meetings involved with Professor Skies in being head student so that was probably a good thing?
It was a shame that none of the Nerd Squad that Henry sometimes hung with was in the right year to vote for him. But maybe enough people like him and Billy and Gus really didn’t want it and could rally around. He reminded anyone he saw on the way to the hall. And, as an afterthought, Henry himself. Because it would be just like him to be too self-deprecating to vote for himself.
It was probably a long shot, but Henry wouldn’t fail through a lack of effort on Oz’s part.

Decisions, decisions by Lorena Abernathy
Lorena had been thinking about this day for a while, and despite this mental preparation (read: anxiety), she did not have an answer before the ballot was placed before her. She was glad, at the very least, that she did not have to choose one boy and one girl. If she had to choose a boy, it was probably either Tommy or Henry. Tommy was a great choice and also Rosalynn’s boyfriend. Plus, a display like Stanley's was definitely impressive. Henry was also a great choice, and Oz had asked to vote for him. That was a really sweet sentiment that really only stirred up some weird emotions in Lorena, because it reminded her about the sweet parts of her ex-boyfriend and also furthered her quiet debate if it was inappropriate or not for her to have a crush on Henry. (The twin-thing hadn’t seemed to stop the O’Malley boys, who had both dated Valentine, but the whole dating situation in the year above Lorena’s was kind of out of her depth.)That decision, fortunately, was stalled, because Lorena was planning on voting Aladren. The problem at hand was just which of the two from her little group of three did she vote for. Was it selfish to vote for herself, even if she thought she really deserved it, when she had the option to pick her two best friends, who would also be really good and really deserved it?
As she now considered, she glanced up to look at her two friends and was reminded of the badge already hanging from Rosalynn’s robes. She was Prefect, and Lorena and Isla were not. So maybe it would be fair for the two of them to get to be Head Girls. Then they could all hang out together in the lounge or at meetings.
With that thought, and knowing in her heart that Rosalynn was not the type to get mad at her for something like this, Lorena made her decision.

Stanley knew, as a graduating seventh year, that he didn’t get a vote in the Head Student election, but that was definitely not going to stop him from going out with a bang, both figuratively and literally, and having his say in this election.Tommy was objectively the best candidate. Despite somehow not getting the Prefect badge (nothing against Ian, of course, but Tommy, man!), he was the most mature and responsible student in the whole school. Stanley didn’t know personally every student in the whole school, of course, but that didn’t matter. Tommy was Tommy. He was the kid who kept everybody else on track. He was a born mediator and had a knack for talking you out of stupid ideas. He made you do your own homework, but also didn’t narc on you that you were previously getting your twin brother to do it. (Completely random example, of course.)
If Tommy didn’t win, there was simply no justice in this world. So Stanley decided - without giving Tommy any indication of his plans and therefore any opportunity to stop him - that he would do his best to help.
As the underclassmen and seventh years began filtering out of the Cascade Hall after dinner, he hung to the back of the group and paused at the doorway. “Hey!” he shouted back to the fifth and sixth years. “Vote for Tommy Jamison!” Stanley quickly raised his wand into the air, and from the tip of it, he shot several sparkles into the air, all in Teppenpaw yellow. Then he directed them with his wand to form TOMMY in the air. He let it hang there as long as he could before he began to feel the adult pressure in the room wanting him to leave, at which point he ended the spell, letting the sparkles rain harmlessly down. “Okay, bye!” And with that, he quickly made his leave.
