Meditation by Xavier Lundstrom

Meditation. The art of sitting and thinking about absolutely nothing. He was supposed to do it regularly to keep his brain from exploding, and now there was a very real danger of that happening given that he vividly remembered several things that hadn't actually happened. Which made it harder than ever to sit and think chill thoughts. There were reasons he kept busy, and kept filling his head with new ideas and it was to keep from having to look at what was already in there.

If he stopped, if he paused and slowed down, he didn't end up thinking relaxing thoughts...

After his fifth attempt to sit down and centre himself on his breathing, he gave a huff and kicked some nearby stones.

"How are you supposed to just think of nothing?" he snapped at the air around himself.

It is important by Giselle Duell

"The only way to empty something is to pour out its contents." Giselle stepped into view while she answered Xavier's question. She was supposed to be Xavier's mentor, and she knew she was failing him miserably. She did not 'people' well, she never had and she was fairly certain she never would. As such, she knew that taking on the role had been a tremendous mistake and Xavier would be the one to suffer for it. But what other option had there been? None really.

There were much better people for this in Greece, but he didn't want to go and she really wasn't sure that she wanted to send anyone there after what she had gone through. So here she was, failing Mr. Lundstrom. She did not like to fail, she would fight anything she was capable of to accomplish what she wanted. But mentoring a fifteen year old? That was not something she was equipped for.

"How about we go for a walk?" It was a suggestion, but it didn't sound much like one. Especially when she kept walking.

But I can't do it by Xavier Lundstrom

Was she following him? Either literally or via mystical means? Well, if so, at least she would See that he was trying!

She 'suggested' a walk and then kept moving. Xavier was tempted to just stay where he was to prove she couldn't make him but he found himself following along anyway, chewing on her supposed wisdom.

"Actually, if you leave a dish of water in the sun, the contents will disappear by evaporration. And if you pour water into a full dish, it will displace the contents."

Not with that attitude by Giselle Duell

Giselle wondered if he would actually come along with her, and was pleased that he did. Xavier had a stubborn streak in him, and she suspected that was the possible source of some of his problems.

She did her best not to react negatively to his arguments. She had learned from some very wise people that had a quote to answer any argument. Usually multiple depending on how they wanted to guide the dialog. She had never gotten to that point, or at least hadn't yet. Maybe someday.

"You are right," she began in response as she led him in the direction of a remote section of the grounds. "But tell me, has sitting in the sun cleared your mind yet? I know you have been trying. And displacing one thing in a container with another, leaves it just as full as it started."

Upon arriving at the secluded part of the Grounds, Giselle gestured for him to sit at the base of a tree with his back against the trunk. Without waiting for him to comply, she sat in the same manner on the opposite side of the trunk.

"I have arranged for the prairie elves to keep all others away from us while we are here. You can of course leave when you wish. I am not a therapist nor anything else along those lines. I am usually your teacher, but right now I am trying to be your mentor. Make use of this time, space, and company as you wish. I will do my best to listen if you want to talk, or give advice if that is what you want. It is, as always, up to you to choose what to do." With that she settled into a meditative posture.
