Rosalynn Tellerman

Rosalynn stood in the middle of the stage that the MARS music room had provided for her when she walked into it. It was not unlike the casino stage where she'd grown up watching her father perform his magic show in Las Vegas, but toned down a little bit to not be quite so . . . Vegas. She'd invited the other members to sit in a semi-circle in front of her, also on the stage, as she brought up the second biggest topic of discussion for the school this year. A topic she had skated over during their first meeting, as it was just too large to cover alongside introductions of new and old members and getting an idea of what everybody could do and wanted to practice this year.

"So you might have missed it alongside the cryptic comment about the team challenges, but at the Opening Feast this year, Headmaster Brockert said the midsummer event this year is the concert, and anybody can submit acts for that. I was thinking we, as the Performing Arts Club of the school, ought to put on at least one, maybe two, acts depending on interest. We could either do a fairly large production that includes most of us - like maybe a Muppet Musical sort of thing where we can have live action actors on stage next to Isla's puppets, with singing and musical accompaniment, and get everyone involved in that somehow. Or we could break into to smaller groups and each of those does whatever that group decides they want to focus on - performing a song, dancing, puppetry, juggling, whatever. So let's go around the circle and see what kind of interest we have, what everyone wants to showcase, and if you'd rather be a small part of a big act or a big part of a small one."

"I'll start," she began, to give them an example of what she was looking to find out, "I'd like to do some dancing for the concert. That would work well in either format, so I don't have a preference. I can perform to recorded music as part of a dancing group, or I can dance to somebody playing their instrument, or I can be in the big production as long as the musical has dancing in it. I could also fill in other roles as needed, but I definitely want to do some dancing."

OOC: As a reminder, if you go to School Locations > Clubs, you can sign all of your characters up for whatever clubs they want to join. This lets everyone know who is in what clubs so they can reference that in their posts. So even if you don't get a post up in response to this (which I hope you do, so Ros can make plans) but want to be in this (or another) club, you can just sign up there and we'll know you're supposed to be around.

Nausicaa Scapetello

Nausicaa had attended the Performing Arts Club since it seemed like the most respectable one at the school. She certainly wasn't going to be caught playing Quidditch, or gardening, or playing make-believe in the library. The dueling club was the only other one that seemed like a possibility, she would like some extra practice, but at the same time she wasn't sure if it was a proper thing for her to be doing.

The first meeting of the club had been fine and what she had expected it to be. Mother had insisted she learn some musical instrument and she was bound to continue practicing it, the club would do well enough for that purpose. It would also help her get a feel for the larger school body than just the beginners. She was already getting the feeling that the general attitude of everyone here was far to nice and such to be openly disdainful of the muggleborn and lower class people here. None of the teachers, as far as she had gotten to know them so far, she thought would tolerate such an attitude. Perhaps the headmaster himself, but she didn't see much of him.

The first year Aladren found her way into the MARS room for the second meeting of the club. The room was a fairly ridiculous looking stage and Miss Tellerman, the club leader had them sit on the floor. Well, the stage but it was still the floor, when there were perfectly good chairs facing the stage that they could be using. This was ridiculous, still she folded her legs under her in the most lady-like way she could manage and followed Miss Tellerman's instructions. Thoughts of taking over this club and running it properly were already forming in her mind.

How could anyone have missed the comments about the concert? Nausicaa wondered as Miss Tellerman started to talk. He didn't say that much, and it was stated fairly plainly. How slow were the students here? The older girl was correct though, as the performing arts club, they should most definitely have some nice performance pieces.

After that though, Miss Tellerman's words stopped making sense. A Muppet Musical? What in Merlin's name were Muppets?! Some sort of terrible Muggle nonsense? People singing along side puppets? Juggling? What sort of low-class carnival side-show was she planning? Concerts were musical performances; instruments and singing. Dancing? That wasn't a concert that was a recital. What was wrong with these people? Did they not know the basic meanings of words around here? How was this a school? The thought of preforming on stage along side of puppets of all things just seemed to her like an abomination of everything that was good and proper with the concept of a concert.

Suddenly she realized that people were looking at her expectantly. Oh, it must be her turn to share her thoughts and feelings to the group. Wonderful. She did her best to once more hide her thoughts about the proceedings so far as she offered proper concert options. "I can play the violin, and the harp, and can also sing." Mother had also insisted she learn the mandolin since it was Italy's national instrument, but she didn't care for it much. It wasn't as elegant as the other instruments. As for the participation question, Nausicaa would much prefer to be on stage alone and not have to worry about other people making mistakes and making her look bad. However, as much as she downright loathed the idea, the school seemed to value teamwork. "I could play an accompaniment for a larger group, but I might prefer a smaller group."
