Giselle Duell

Like all of the students, this was Giselle's first challenge year as well. She wasn't quite sure if she should be tweaking her curriculum a bit in order to highlight some of her discipline's obvious uses for the challenges, or if she should treat it as any other year and allow the astute students make their own discoveries along those lines. In the end, she had decided to stay with the standard curriculum. The decision wasn't entirely just a matter of whether or not she thought her pupils could figure out their own application of the skills, it was more the fact that tweaking lessons would take some time and now she was giving extra classes to Xavier.

The other factor that weighed in on that decision was that they were well into the subject of Tessomancy, or the reading of tea leaves. Which she didn't know would work well with the challenges, would they stop to brew a pot of tea while competing? Probably not, although it may help them more than they might realize.

When the students began to arrive, the room was configured as it had been for the past few sessions, round tables with two chairs at each, a tea set in the middle of each and a cup at each seat. The main difference today was that the pot in the middle of the table was empty and cold. Professor Duell herself was standing by her desk at the front of the room and waited for everyone to settle down before beginning.

"Welcome back everyone," Giselle began addressing her students. "So far you have all been doing well in reading the symbols left in the tea leaves of your cups, so today we move on a little bit. You will notice that the tea is not ready for you, you will need to fix that." She gestured to a small cabinet on the wall of the room with many small drawers. "There are many different varieties of tea that you can find and choose from. Pick whichever you are drawn to as this to may have an effect on the outcome of your readings." A small smile pricked the side of her mouth, "If you and your table-mate are drawn in different directions, well you'll need to work that one out yourselves as you need to share the teapot." After a very brief pause she added, "Non-violently, by the way."

"You will also be making use of some of your other class lessons and using your wand much more than you would normally in this class as the pot will need water and heat. Once that is done, you should be able to continue as we have been in previous lessons. Pour your tea when it is ready, drink and interpret what you find. Your assignment is then to write up a comparison of how preparing the tea changed or didn't change your perceptions of the outcome of what we did last time. You may begin."
