Hopefully this goes well. [Adv Divinations]

Giselle was not sure about today’s class. She hadn’t tried it last year and she wasn’t sure if she was ready to try it this year, but she really did want to see what happened. Anyway, it was too late to change the lesson plan at this point, her students would be here at any moment. She picked up their assignments off the desk and strode towards the door. The majority of the room was completely clear, the tables and chairs had been slid out of the way against the one of the walls. Along the other wall stood a row of dueling dummies. She stood just inside the door, against the wall and out of sight from the corridor beyond. A simple cast later and the area just inside the room, where she stood along with the doorway, was completely devoid of any sound.
She smiled as each of the students entered the room, no doubt noticing the silenced area which ended a few steps into the room. As they passed through, she gave them each their latest homework back. She gave Anya a special smile, some of this was for her. Anya had been doing exceedingly well and the last time Giselle had needed to return homework, she had only been able to pinpoint the table at which Anya was going to sit, not which seat. She had guessed, and fortunately guessed correctly. So this time she had changed things up a little bit, plus it played into today’s lesson.
Once everyone had arrived, she dismissed the silenced zone and welcomed the sound that flooded back into her senses. Being both blind and deaf wasn’t exactly a wonderful sensation. “Welcome everyone, look over your homework results and as always if you have any questions you know where to find me. Or, at least should know how to find me if I’m doing my job properly.” She walked across the room to stand in front of her desk. “As you can tell, we won’t be sitting down for today’s class. This will be something of an experiment, hopefully it will go well. You will want to put your bags and such along the walls, however you will need your wand.” This was not something she had an occasion to say very often, Divinations was not a class that called for much wandwork.
“As we have been learning, there are magical forces all around us. These are the energies that we manipulate to cast spells. I have noted before that the disciplines of Charms and Transfigurations are generally rough and almost brutish methods to manipulate these magical energies to gain a desired outcome.” She gently swished her own wand gently, “Your wand, words and will impose changes on these magical energies. They twist them around, distort them from their natural courses. This is all fine of course, it is the way in which magic works and not many witches or wizards can sense these subtle changes.” This was not getting to a familiar point that the students had been working on for most of the term so far in one way or another.
Giselle paused just a moment to make sure they were all keeping up. “It is those who are more sensitive that can sense these changes. You all have shown the ability one way or another, that is why you are still in the class. Divination depends on watching these subtle changes and following their new courses to see the patterns of where things may go, or why they changed to begin with.” She smiled, wondering if anyone had guessed how this played into their entrance into class. “As with the casting of magic, each witch and wizard has an aura that naturally disturbs the ambient fields… learn to sense that, and you don’t need eyes or ears to know who is around you. However, it is quite difficult and requires quite a bit of study of the people and the environment along with much concentration.”
Changing her tone from the ‘mystical instructor’ to the more practical teaching voice, she continued. “We don’t have to worry about that today. We will be working with the… cruder end of the spectrum. Today you will be pairing off and dueling. Hexes and Jinxes are some of the most disturbing spells to the magical environment and the easiest to sense. For the first part of class you and your partner will practice casting at the dummies. While one casts, the other will try to feel the changes. Once you both think you have that down, try actual dueling, but call out your partner’s spell before they can cast it. Good luck, and I will be around to offer assistance.” She really hoped she wouldn’t have to call in the medic for this class.
