Quest Thread continued - Fear not! by Evelyn Stones

OOC: This is a continuation of the quest from FnF. Please note that now that we're back to regular RPing, your posts need to be a minimum of 200 words. BIC:

Evelyn had already been impressed by Val but now even more so. Everything was going smoothly: they had gotten the clue from the library that led them to 'the Oracle', AKA Professor Duell; they had gotten the password from Professor Duell and a clue that led them to Cascade Hall (with enough back and forth discussion to make this feel like almost like a regular session); and now they were face-to-face with a prairie elf in tiny armor, guarding three crates. They hadn't yet had food thrown at them and they hadn't yet been stabbed by the elf's tiny spear, but Morgan had sounded off the possibility of the former and the elf herself seemed to suggest the latter. All in all, Evelyn was pretty convinced that she was going to check out LARPing in the future. If Gary hadn't already given it a shot, she thought he'd probably like it. It had the benefit of some fun elements from the party at the drag show, which was always a perk.

"Better and worse both I think," Evelyn decided, replying to Morgan's comparison of the elf to a mashed potato food fight. "But I'm not sure that's off the table yet either." Ha. Food puns. Because 'table'. Ha ha ha.

Evelyn cocked her head at the elf, who was doing a very good job not acknowledging the fact that Evelyn had been the one to recruit her for her theatrical debut. In fact, the elf was doing a good job not acknowledging any of the usual connections she shared with the students, including the fact that they were students. Instead, she had fully accepted her role and was grinning at them with devilish mirth. Well, elfish mirth. The fact that she kept adjusting her expression to try to hide said grin made Evelyn smile; Nillix was clearly enjoying her job.

"Who goes there?!" Nillix demanded when the group properly approached. Evelyn glanced at her companions, waiting for someone else to speak up; yoloing was much less effective when you were in on it.

Ness approached and provided the pendant and password to Nillix, who gave an excited little yip before remembering to look menacing and failing horribly. Evelyn grinned at her and gave a sly thumbs up where no one could see it but the elf.

"You have offered the correct password and token. Go, take these crates and continue on your quest," Nillix said, accepting the token from Ness and backing away with a flourish as she gestured to the crates. They were marked with a lyre symbol and the words 'To: Aries' on each. "Do not open them until you arrive at your destination," Nillix added. Evelyn thought that there might've been some more veiled threats or premises of doom to add there but the point was to make sure the crates stayed closed for now so she supposed straightforward instructions wasn't the worst strategy.

"'To: Aries'?" Evelyn read as she approached. "Thoughts?"

OOC: Nillix is a shared character between myself and her previous author so I'm not god-modding.

Hopefully redeeming myself by Gabriel Wilson

This was really fun! It was kind of like, a treasure hunt, with clues to figure out, which meant that Gabriel got to use a bit of the knowledge he'd collected over the years, even if he had screwed up by suggesting that they were supposed to go to MARS. Of course he knew what Hestia was the goddess of, but the Poseidon thing had led him slightly astray since he automatically associated water with the Water Room. Also, the whole Hesita thing. As far as Gabriel knew, there was no such goddess in any mythology that he was aware of, unless it was that of someone's paracosm. And he knew a lot about mythology so odds were that that was the case as he was not a Legilimens and therefore unable to guess at mythology that was made up by Val and never shared with him.

He still felt...a little embarrassed anyway. The fourth year had been fairly sure his answer was right initially because of all the different MARS rooms including the water one-and he had so wanted to be right and have his friends think he was smart and that he'd done a good job. Instead, he was worried that they were now thinking less of him for his mistake and were internally laughing at him, especially the two seventh years. Gabriel had never been as comfortable with Ness and Evelyn as he had been with Gary or even Heinrich.

On the plus side, he had told the older Aladren that she was right, and she had probably liked that. People generally liked being told that, Aladrens in particular. Hence why he personally was so embarrassed right now. The absolutely, positively, last thing that Gabriel ever wanted was for anyone to ever think he was stupid.

Anyway, Morgan had seemed to think they were going to get food thrown at them now and he really hoped that wasn't the case. He was actually of the opinion that the house-elf that was now brandishing a sword at them was the better of those two options. The fourth year was pretty sure that the elf could not actually get away with stabbing them for the sake of a game. Also, elves generally didn't attack wizards unless, he supposed their masters commanded them to.

After Ness gave the elf the password and token, they were given crates with lyres on them and the words To:Aries and suddenly, Gabriel saw a chance to hopefully redeem himself. "Although it's spelled wrong here, Ares is the Greek god of war. His Roman name is Mars although the bloodthirsty god was more popular with the Romans than the Greek. And the lyre is a a stringed instrument like a small U-shaped harp with strings fixed to a crossbar, used especially in ancient Greece. So, it's probably the music room in MARS."

He went on, wanting to cover himself if that wasn't right. "Of course, Aries, as spelled here, is the Ram, but since that doesn't represent any of the houses here-and it wouldn't be in a specific house given we're not all in the same one-I think that my first guess is probably right since I'm unfamiliar with any ram symbolism anywhere here at Sonora. And the only places I could associate with the zodiac as a whole are Divination-where we've already been-or Astronomy, which wouldn't account for the lyre anyway." Gabriel had learned to consider the whole clue now.

Still, he hoped he was right.

Not me. by Evelyn Stones

Evelyn didn't bother to hide a grimace when Gabriel pointed out what she should've caught in designing the crates. She muttered something under her breath about 'RATS are coming up' and 'if wizards had google,' but clasped her hands together with a smile when she'd worked through that moment. It was an embarrassed expression but a happy one all the same.

"I think you're on to something," she told Gabriel. "I didn't know you knew so much about Greek and Roman mythology!" she added with a more sincere grin, happy to have found a topic on which to bond with the younger boy, although she doubted they were going to be the best of friends at this point. "Unless anyone was born between March 20 and April 21 and has a different idea?" she added jokingly to the rest of the group.

She retrieved her wand and waved it at the nearest crate, levitating it so she didn't have to carry it all the way to the MARS rooms. "Someone else will have to get the other two, I can't get more than one at a time," she admitted. She was pretty sure it was possible to do and she was pretty sure someone else could have, but she was mostly done being embarrassed about her relatively weak magical ability.
