Good news everybody by Giselle Duell

Giselle was folding the laundry when the first owl arrived. This was one of the things she had found she could do well enough to help out around the Duell household. No, home. Her home as well now. Marrissa or Andrew had to sort the pile out first of course, she wasn't one for separating darks from lights or making sure Andrew's red shirt didn't get mixed in with the whites. However, after that she was perfectly capable of handling the rest of the process. She was going to be productive here and do what she could to pay off the debt she owed them. Not that either one of them would hear any such sort of talk, so she was 'pulling her weight'.

The owl tapped at the window again, at least she assumed it was an owl anyway. One of the limitations of her 'location' spell was the lack of color, another was its inability to gather information on the other side of clear or transparent objects. Windows were just flat surfaces as far as it was concerned. She opened the window and yes, it was an owl, an unfamiliar one. Another school owl from Valentine? Her last one about the school's fair preparations had been... enthusiastic, a very Valentine letter. She took the letter, and the owl was gone before she could even offer it any treats in payment for its services. Usually the school owls were not shy about sticking around for treats.

Giselle unrolled the letter and cast one of the newer charms she and Andrew had been working on, it was a modified version of her location spell. Instead of picking up on big objects in the space around her, it simply sensed differences in shade or texture a short difference from the tip of her wand. As such, she could scan her wand across a line of text and see it in her mind. It didn't disturb others around her nearly as much when she read compared to the 'read aloud' spell that Lia had taught her. Had... had Lia taught her that one so that she could always listen in to what Giselle was reading? Had it been another means of control? She shuddered a bit, it hadn't been much more than a week since she'd gone to the local aurors to give her statements of what had happened. Auror Floros had been there leading the session, it had been... unpleasant to relive it all again from her new perspective. Now she could understand what all Lia had done, to her and to others. She had been a wreck for two days after that.

The letter was from Auror Floros. It stated that Giselle had been found innocent of any and all wrongdoing. It also stated in no uncertain terms that Lia was being charged with some very serious crimes and wouldn't be able to hurt anyone anymore. Ever. It was over. She was safe and clear. She dropped into a chair clutching the letter with tears forming behind her glasses. A huge weight was lifted from her in that moment, and she felt as though she'd been holding her breath for... years? Suddenly all of that past didn't seem to have a hold on her, she could maybe move on now. She could...

The second owl landed at the now open window and tapped against he sill to announce its presence. Giselle wiped her cheeks and took this one's message. It did stay for a treat and waited for a reply. This one was from Valentine, and as usual Giselle couldn't help but smile at its contents. Valentine was practically pleading with her to use her special future seeing powers to help convince Andrew and Marissa that her friend Bonabelle was 'destined' to come visit her over the summer and that the future would be in peril if it didn't happen. Giselle found some paper and wrote back a quick but encouraging 'I'll see what I can do' response and sent the owl back upon it's way.

The third owl arrived as she was finishing up the laundry. It was also from the school, but it wasn't from Valentine. This letter came from the Deputy-Headmistress Selina Skies. It said she had gotten the job of Divination teacher at Sonora Academy and would be starting in the new year. Giselle sat back on the chair, stunned. What a day. Oh crap, she needed lesson plans now.
