Meet me in the Water Room (tag Freddie) by Anya Delachene

Anya was kind of tired of winter already and it hadn't even formally begun yet. It would be better if there was snow, but so far there was just cold and dark, neither of which were things that the California born Pecari much cared for. Being a Pecari made it worse, because it was dark when they left in the morning, and it was dark again when they headed back at night, and it was cold any time they left their common room, even if they were lucky enough for it to be one of the few hours of the day when it was light out.

So she'd told Freddie to meet her in the Water room and bring his swim suit because, today, for at least right now and right here, it was going to be summer again.

She pushed open the door and it was warm inside, and smelled like chlorine, and there was a large pool, with several different ways to dive into it, including spring boards of various heights and diving platforms, also of various heights. Anya enjoyed a good swim, but the best part wasn't being in the water - it was getting into the water.

She changed quickly in one of the side tents for that purpose then hurried to the tallest of the springboards. She walked out the end of it, and jumped a few times until it was tossing her a good bit into air with each jump, then she pushed herself out over the pool and dove neatly into the water.

The water was relatively cool compared to the air and she screamed underwater as her body sliced into it, she did a flip, changing directions, and stroked up toward the surface. Breaking through, she gasped out for new air. Wiping the water clear of her face so she could see again, she saw that Freddie had arrived while she was under. "Hhhuuuu," she fake-shivered. "It's cold at first," she warned him. "But I'm already getting used to it." She swam over to the ladder and pulled herself out. "Changing tents are over there," she added, pointing them out, "When you're ready, we can see who can make the biggest splash!"

YUSS. by Freddie Zauberhexen

Freddie was excited to see Anya and also nervous because he wanted to talk to her about Things. That aside, he was gonna get to go swimming and that was gonna be amazing. His swim trunks had an American flag on them because he'd been very excited to come to the United States and it just sort of stuck, and he hurried to put them on when Anya pointed out where to go to change. "Home has only river for swimming," he told her, grinning as he made his way to the tents. "This water is warm, I believe!"

He changed into his shorts and put the rest of his clothes out of the way of being splashed. "I not see . . . swim square? What is this called?" he asked as he followed what he assumed Anya had done and climbed up to the diving board. He wasn't sure the word for pool and had never seen one, but this would be great either way. It was deeper than the river in most places. "We splash next," he promised, wanting to get in the water and get all the way wet before he tried to make a splash. He'd never jumped off a diving board before and was surprised at how wiggly it was, but that should be fine. Rather than using it as it was meant to be used, he merely jumped off from it, landing in a cannonball and grinning the whole way.

Popping out of the water near Anya, he grinned and pushed his hair out of his face. "Ok, but it is little cold," he admitted. Still, the room was warm and lovely and it was perfect. He took a moment to float on his back and take a deep breath, enjoying the odd smells that clung in the air. Satisfied, he returned to an upright position. "Ready now," he told her.

Having fun! by Anya Delachene

While Freddie went into one of the tents to get changed, Anya headed back for the springboard. This time she went for a single flip and straightened out into a pindrop into the pool. She was a gymnast first and a diver only by related skillsets so that was about as much as she could manage and still have negligible splash. Once she started doing more rotations, she always landed still in a tuck, or over and under rotated, and made a giant splash not unlike the one that Freddie made when he cannonballed into the pool a minute later.

She wasn't sure exactly what Freddie was asking about when he asked about a swim square, so she started naming all the swimming terminology she could think of that fit that vague description. "This is a pool," she indicated the thing they were both treading water in. "That's a diving board, or a spring board," she pointed at the spring board he had just used. "And that's a diving platform," she pointed at one of those. "They are also good for jumping off of. But the diving boards give you more air. Watch."

She swam to the ladder and got out, moving quickly around to the diving board where she stepped out to the end and did the jumping on it until it was bouncing her nicely. Then she did a flip and a half, trying to straighten out for the dive at the end, but hit the water's surface at an angle that left her back and legs stinging.

Coming up for air, she brushed her face clear and grinned at Freddie. "So how big of a splash was that?"

SO much fun! by Freddie Zauberhexen

Freddie watched as Anya made her way up to the thing that was good for jumping off of. She did so in an incredible fashion, one that he'd never thought of trying before. Of course, jumping from a rock into a shallow river wasn't a great idea, so he'd never really had the need to think of it before. Jumping into a pool. He committed the word to memory, sure he would want to suggest this for future days again.

"Not much big," he told her, surprised. He used his hands to show the approximate size of the splash the last bit of her legs cutting through the surface had made. "I think that jump from high. It will have big splash. You have small splash." He considered for a moment before deciding he wanted to give it a shot himself. "I try," he told her, grinning from ear to ear as he pushed himself out of the pool and followed the steps Anya had taken. The diving board was actually a bit of a nightmare and it took him a few tries to be able to time his jump with the movement that seemed to be a natural part of the silly thing, but he finally managed it and even did a flip before landing in the water feet first. It stung his feet and legs as he sliced through the water, cutting underneath the surface at an angle out of habit so he would avoid going too deep.

Popping up for air, he grinned, an adrenaline-fueled flush turning his cheeks red. "How was that?" he asked, copying her previous sentence. "I want the bottom to touch," he decided, taking a deep breath before heading back under water and pushing himself to the bottom of the pool. He followed it into the deeper water, amazed by the increased pressure that made his lungs scream. It felt, ironically, like a breath of fresh air. It was nice to have to work so hard and to just be.

When he couldn't hold his breath anymore, he released it in a cloud of bubbles and pushed himself to the surface. It was further away than he expected and he was out of bubbles by the time he arrived, so he gulped in a mouthful of oxygen-rich air when he arrived. He grinned at Anya again. "I like the pool," he told her.
