Roxy Kent (Kyler's Mom)

December 07, 2008 10:04 PM
Roxy couldn't keep the smile from her face as she finished her son's letter. Kyler was such a kid and she loved that about her son. The boy was so rambunctious, and now he was writing home, asking her to keep his pet. From the description, he said it looked like a big cotton ball, "but with fur instead of cotton!" and could he please please please please keep it, Mommy? Roxy looked around at the busting set around her. She had time, right? Of course she had time... She signed the checks. They could wait.

"Hey take five, everyone!" She called, before turning to her letter.

Dear Professor Kijewski,

My son, Kyler Kent, is definitely allowed to keep the Pygmy Puff. I think this opportunity you are giving them is fantastic! What a way to really let them see how these creatures tick. I would ask him to bring home two, but I doubt that would go over too well in the "Muggle" world. I can't wait until Kyler comes home so I can see what one looks like.

More formally, I, Roxy Kent, herby give my son, Kyler Kent, permission to keep a Pygmy Puff and/or Puffskein. I promise not to sue the school should it wreak havoc on my house, possessions, or myself, etc... etc...

Sincerely,
Roxy Kent

With a furtive look around, Roxy went outside. Once behind her trailer, Roxie hesitantly held out the paper to the owl Kyler had sent. Did it just take it...? Oh. The black owl held out its leg, as if hoping it would tie the letter to it. Roxie took a rubber band from her wrist and bound the letter to the owl.

"Um..." she hesitated. "To Professor Kijewski? At Sonora Academy?" The owl looked at her, almost as if judging her intelligence, before departing. Roxy watched it disappear into the clouds, knowing that, wherever it was going, was where her son was growing up. And she couldn't even see it...

Dan Nash/Kathleen Burbridge

December 09, 2008 3:40 PM
The owl that had come to Katleen Burbridge's home with the latest gossip in the world of Sonora's third year populace returned to the school with five letters attached to his leg - with two children in Sonora, and one of them Holly who gave nearly daily updates into her life at the school, Kathleen received owls far more often than did Dan Nash who felt lucky if he got one letter a month from his son. Consequently, Daniel's father had left his two letters bound for the school with his ex-wife, for speedier delivery.

Two days prior, both he and Kathleen had received short missives from their son, requesting that they not give him permission to keep a magical animal called a 'pymgy puff' as his pet.

On far better terms with Kathleen now than he had been while they were married, he had called her up to discuss the issue. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the (many) subjects where they had to agree to disagree, so each had drafted a letter giving the professor contradictory information regarding Daniel's right to keep the animal in question.

Professor Kijewski,
began the first one, in a feminine hand.

My son, Daniel Nash, has my permission to keep his pygmy puff. He is a responsible boy and I see no reason for him not to have a pet should he decide he would like to have one. I leave the decision up to him.

Kathleen Burbridge

PS: If he decides against it, and my daughter, Holly Greer, would like to keep it instead, she also has my permission.

Dan Nash was a little more indulgent of his son's whim.

Professor Kijewski, began the second, in a more masculine hand.

Under no circumstance is my son, Daniel Nash, to be allowed to keep a magical creature as a pet. During the summer he will be spending days at a time on the set. He will have neither the time nor opportunity to care for it. As the creature is magical, there is also too high a chance our non-magical household staff may come across it. Also, moving him back and forth between my house and his mother's every other week is difficult enough without needing to transport a pet, too.

My regrets,
Dan Nash

Of the other three letters on the owl's leg, one was the latest Hollywood gossip for Holly, and the other two were for Daniel, explaining what each respective parent had told his teacher, as well as updating him on what else was going on in their lives.\r\n\r\n

The parents of Nathaniel Leon

January 01, 2009 11:43 AM
An owl had actually come to Skye, a real intelligent messenger owl! The first time this happened, she was overjoyed, and like her consistantly excited young boy, it seemed to just get better. Nathaniel wrote to her once, sometimes twice, a week, explaining everything in exciting detail. Wanting very much to see real magic being performed by her real son, Skye suggested sending over a polaroid camera? But no, apparently there were spells that would render even the simplest, aged camera, useless, and so she was left in upset over not getting to see the wonderful, magical world her son was seeing.

Until the next owl came a few days later. In his letter, Nathaniel praised his Care of Magical Creatures class over all (how Nathaniel always loved the animals, the nanners) and then asked that he be allowed to take home a creature called a 'pygmy puff'. It sounded absolutely wonderful, and looked that way too, as Nathaniel had seemed to have gotten his hands on a Creature magazine and sent over pictures of softly colored puffballs that apparently were really some sort of animal! He had promised, swore, that this creature would be staying at their home as a lovely littl guest, allowed to do as it pleased. He also asked that she put in that Nathaniel would be sure to keep the creature from the site of any "Muggles"--er, unmagical people.

Of course, Skye couldn't say "no", she wouldn't have said no if the idea of having an actual magical creature in her house wasn't just that exciting. While helping Lucy with her meal of generic cereal with a strange similarity to "Cheerios", Nathaniel's mother wrote out a letter to the teacher that she was supposed to send this to.

Miss Kijewski, her clumsy hand wrote, while avoiding spilling cereal.

Nathaniel has asked if our family could take care of a creature called the "pygmy puff". Having a magical creature in a world of-- what was that word again? oh yes! --mudders may cause some concern, but Nathaniel is very capable of being careful. Outside he could pass the dear thing off as a furry ball, no? Yes, I think that makes sense.

Thank you, and very much love to you.

- S.C.E.R.P.L.U.R.H. Leon

The clumsy, loopy handwriting even ended with a little hearts by the end of her husband's name. While folding it up, she knocked a bit of milk onto the corner of the letter and blew it dry before twisting it into an envelope and attaching the letter to the owl. "You poor thing," she cooed to the owl, "Such a long journey." And so, attached to the owl when it came back to Professor K was a bag of generic Cheerios.

Hannah Santoro-Garcia

January 01, 2009 8:14 PM
Although Hannah Santoro-Garcia wasn’t necessarily a fan of animals, she knew that the day would come when her and Adam would have to give in to their daughters’ requests for a pet. And that day came sooner than she had hoped when her daughter had owled home asking for permission to keep a pygmy puff.

With a heavy sigh, Hannah sat down and wrote out her response to the Professor. The only thing that kept her going was that Lita would be at school 10 months out of the year and the puffskein would be nothing more than an additional stuffed animal on Adelita’s bed.

Dear Professor Kijewski,

Please accept this letter as my explicate and written permission to allow my daughter, Adelita Garcia, to keep the pygmy puff of her choosing.

Sincerely,
Hannah Santoro-Garcia

Adrian Brockert and Warren Melcher

January 02, 2009 12:35 AM
Two owls from two different places arrived at Sonora to give Professor Kijewski letters. The first was a regal and official looking gray owl, with not a feather out of place, that had flown in from Dubuque, Iowa. The letter it was carrying was short and to the point for it's writer was very busy and had better things to do then write long-winded letters to his son's teacher. It said the following.

Professor Kijewski,

My son Quentin has permission to keep his puffskien.

Sincerely,
Warren Melcher

Though he wasn't sure exactly why Quentin wanted the small critter, there could be no harm in allowing him to keep it. Perhaps it would even teach the boy some responsibilty. Not that Quentin lacked it anymore than any other boy his age. Warren just felt it was an important value for a young person to learn. His own brother had always been so deficient in this category and Warren wanted Quentin to be better than that.

The other owl, which arrived from Colorado slightly after the Melcher's had,was far scruffier looking. It was brown and looked aged beyond its years with a few feathers burned off here and there. Whereas the other owl had landed and put the letter down gracefully and with ease, this poor creature pretty much crashed on Professor Kijewski's desk.

The letter it bore read,

Professor Kijewski,

Please allow my daughter Pippa to keep her puffskien. She has been wanting one for sometime, she just adores animals and will take excellent care of it.

Adrian Brockert

While Pippa's father had the same concerns of the safety of the puffskien around Tawny as his daughter, he had also come to the same reasoning she had, that she would be away for most of the year, though he would have felt better about it if there was someone else who could take it for the summer.

Edward Valentine

January 02, 2009 3:40 AM
It hadn't been a difficult decision when the letter came. Eavan had had her puffskein for years and the only trouble Ed had had with it was when he almost tripped over it several times while the kids were home. Two more puffskeins probably wouldn't be much different. So when Earl's owl had dropped by at breakfast one morning with a letter from Ethan and Elliot begging to keep their new pets, Ed had just grabbed a piece of paper and scrawled his permission to Professor Kijewski.

To Professor Kijewski,

I, Edward Valentine, give Ethan and Elliot Valentine permission to keep their pets.

It took him twelve minutes to get the letter tied onto the owl's (whatever its name was). This was why he didn't write his kids much. These god-damn owls. He never liked them. Emails didn't poop on the kitchen table. Marley, the owl, hooted impatiently, so Ed would let go of her leg. Once he did, she took off through the window to seek out Professor Kijewski.

Dear Professor Kijewski:

My daughter, Deepa Rajaram, informed me in her latest letter that you are allowing the students to keep the Pygmy Puffs and Puffskeins from your lessons. I give Deepa permission to keep one, if she so wishes.

Sincerely,

S. Rajaram

Holly Greer

January 05, 2009 12:58 PM
Holly had first gotten the letter from her mother, and then talked to Danny, and then got the letter from Professor Kijewski, so by the time she came down to the Care of Magical Creatures office, she had already been considering Aurora hers for nearly a week. Danny had called the puff something stupid like Kirby, but Danny lacked Holly's better taste in names. He hadn't even taken her up on her offer to share the Hollywood Thistle mantle.

She knocked on the professor's door and cautiously poked her head inside, wary of what other creatures might be around. "Professor Kijewski? You said I could come by if I wanted Danny's pygmy puff?"

It wouldn't replace Wendy by any means, but Holly would be glad to have something to care for while she was at school. Plus, the little balls of fluff were just so cute!\r\n\r\n

Paul Greer

January 05, 2009 1:28 PM
Holly had kept her father and step-mother abreast of all the latest developments in the Danny-can-have-pet-but-he-doesn't-want-it-and-mom-said-I-could-have-it-instead drama. Once Paul Greer heard that Danny was definitely not keeping it, and that Holly had been formally asked, he thought it best to send in a letter to the professor, for formality's sake, if only because he had primary custody of his daughter and Kathleen had already demonstrated she would give permission without consulting her child's other parent.

So when Holly's daily news about her life at Sonora arrived by owl, he fastened a letter bound for the Care of Magical Creatures professor, to settle any further concerns she might have.

Professor Kijewski,

My daughter, Holly Greer, and her mother, Kathleen Burbridge, have both informed me that Holly either has or will shortly be given a magical pet. I am writing to you to give formal permission from myself and her step-mother. Holly has cared for a horse with unfailing dependability since she was six years old. I have no doubts she can be trusted with a pygmy puff.

Sincerely,
Paul and Courtney Greer

Lok Li

January 11, 2009 1:13 PM
When the letter had arrived from Taylor, asking about being able to keep a magical pet, Lok had hesitated. He had already put his foot down to his wife about allowing Taylor to get a ferret and this would not only be an additional pet, but a magical pet. He had no idea what sort of commitments or complications one would bring since he was a muggle, but after a few more bits of correspondence, which included quite a few questions, he had finally agreed with reservation and reluctance. Taking a piece of personal rather than business stationery from his desk drawer, he wrote the following:

To Professor Kijewski:

I hereby grant my daughter, Taylor Li, permission to have a pygmy puff so long as the article that she sent on the care and maintenance of the creatures is true. I have enclosed a copy of said article for your viewing. If said article is correct, no action is necessary. However, if said article is false, I would like further information on such matters before making a decision. Thank you for your time and dedication to this matter.

Mr. Li

P.S. Actually, if it is not too much of an inconvenience, please send me similar materials on owls. Thank you once again.

Initially, Lok wasn’t going to add the last part, however, upon glancing at the owl that was currently perched on his desk and making small scratches in it, he found that it might be better to give Taylor her own owl since it seemed to be the way correspondence was done. After all, it was the same as him not having access to his communication devices and being reliant on someone else. No, it just wouldn’t do, even if Jackie disapproved. If the only thing he ever taught Taylor, it would be to be self-reliant.

Professor K.

Kiva was still getting used to her new office since she went on maternity leave. It was a little odd being in the room, but it was her home for the time being. Being able to leave after her last class was also something that she wasn’t so sure how she felt about. Kiva loved going home to be with Emery, but she also felt that she was missing much of what was going on at Sonora and with her students. Truth was, when her two years were up, Kiva didn’t know if she would have her answer for Headmaster Bulla.

Kiva lifted her head towards the door when she heard a knock and found Holly Greer looking in at her. She had been expecting Holly to be coming to pick up the creature after three very confusing letters had been sent to her. Kiva never really given much thought to the families of her students unless something specific came up. She didn’t even realize Holly and Daniel were related until those letters came.

Smiling at the third year, Kiva stood up from her desk and walked around towards the crate that was now only half full of Puffskeins and Pygmy Puffs. “Come on in, Holly.” Kiva greeted, waving her over to the crate. “Now, this little one is the one your brother picked out.” Kiva picked up a small purple pygmy puff with a red ribbon tied to its tail. She took the ribbon off and handed it to Holly. “If you don’t want that one, this crate is for the ones that parents didn’t want or are just what I have. So, it’s your choice.”

There were a lot of puffskeins still left as the students seemed to have gone straight for the pygmy puffs, but Kiva had expected as much. “If you know of any of your classmates who want one, let them know that they’re available with parental permission for me.” Kiva added incase Holly had heard any of the older students complaining about not being able to get any of the puffskeins/pygmy puffs of their own.
