A bit late, but if you would come here Holly? by Raoul

Raoul wasn’t sure if he should do this. Holly probably was already busy. She probably had a date. And if she didn’t have a date, she was probably not even going. Or if she even wanted to go with him. What was he going to do?

Rubbing his sweaty palms on his robes, he looked around the common room. This was too last minute. It was so close to the dance! Why now? It was too late. He was young. He didn’t need to think about asking girls to balls. What was he doing? His feet were carrying him towards Holly.

He waved shyly at her. His face turned bright red and his ran his hands constantly through his spiked blonde hair. He took several breaths of air and started and stopped several times before he could talk.

“H-holly…It’s kind of late to be asking this sort of thing… I don’t know if you’re going to that ball…if you like stuff like that…if you don’t have a date… I mean if you’re not planning anything… if you wanna… gowithmetotheball?” He swallowed a couple of times before repeating slower, “Go with me…to the ball? “ He kind of flinched, half expecting a sharp no as he waited for her answer.

Holly

Present and accounted for by Holly

Holly had resigned herself to not having a date. It wasn't a huge deal. She would still look stunning in her dress robes, and her and Chelsea and Cecily and Anabel would all get together to do each other's hair and make-up beforehand and it was all going to be absolutely fabulous. She'd written home and her mother had even assured her it was completely acceptable for a twelve year old to go to a dance just with friends.

So when she spotted Raoul approaching her, she smiled in warm greeting and only wondered a little bit if he was going and if he'd asked somebody else. Even when he started stuttering and stumbling over his words, she didn't immediately pick up on his intent. When he did manage to get the question out, though, that got through to her loud and clear.

There was only one possible response and Holly made it. She squealed in delight. And then she jumped up and down and clapped her hands together and danced in place and hugged Raoul in joy. And then, as if her answer were not completely obvious, she stepped back again, stood up with finest posture and said quite politely, "Why, yes, Raoul, I'd love to go to the dance with you." And smiled so hard her cheeks hurt.
