[Day after the Feast] A confusing conversation with me by Grail Markner

Right now Grail was in her home. Sonora, and its library, in an area of the Library that not even many people coming out of Aladren could find unless they were looking all over for Gray in the Library. It was the place that, last year, Leo had found her crying over her sisters. And it was the place, this year, that seemed to be her sanctuary from Ariel. It was the only place the insanity hadn't popped up.

That didn't mean Gray didn't have someone with her right now. Or, some... insanity... with her. Near her (Gray didn't know where) was Martin, Ariel's follower. He had finally "spoken" to her, and said only a simple sentence. "Ariel doesn't go in Libraries." Grail thanked god for that, and though maybe that was her own choice. After all, Ariel was a figment of her imagination. And though it bothered her that Martin decided to make her feel insane today, she didn't mind him as much as Ariel. At least he didn't make her yell at him, causing people to give her odd looks for yelling at nothing.

Right now Gray was reading, of course. It was a new book her mother had gotten called Labyrinth, about the Crusades and how in France it was the Catars that were killed off. To her surprise, both spellings of Alice/Alais's names were used in the book, as well as Libby's as the title, and Gray and Chali's many times in it. Gray smiled, knowing why her mother wanted her children to read it. Especially Alice/Alais. The poor girl was getting so confused lately.

She had a feeling Martin was reading something too. It was probably the same thing, since Martin was basically her. But for some odd reason she decided to ask. Why Gray was trying to make conversation with her insanity when she had been trying so hard to ignore them was beyond her, but whatever. "What are you reading?" she asked.

"What do you think. I'm just you, remember?" Martin said after a long pause.

"So I was right. Are you really there and just invisable, or are you a part of my imagination," Gray smiled, unaware that this time she was talking to herself.

"Why don't you talk to Ariel with this much enthusiasm, we're the same, and so are you... Martian stated, and Gray's face fell as she thought of this.

"Well yes... but... it seems you two have actual personalities. I don't know what to think," Gray sighed. "Am I insane or just..." she couldn't think of any other word that would describe her situation. She waited for Martin to answer, but he decided to stay silent. Gray realized she didn't know where he was, just that she thought he was still here. "Martin?" she called. "Martin?" Why was she doing this? Why was she talking to someone who didn't exist anywhere else but her head. Gray felt she really was going insane, but she also felt Martin had answers so she called it out again.

"Martin!?"

But the response she got wasn't Martin. Of course, she thought the footsteps coming near her, and the voice was him at first. But then she remembered, Martin wasn't real, Martin didn't have footsteps. And that wasn't his voice. Grail turned bright red, oh god, who just heard her talking to herself? Oh no. Slowly she turned to face whoever was there.\n\n

A conversation with me may not be much better by Lutece Anthony

Lutece did not do libraries. They generally smelled horrid and only rarely carried the important things in life (such as the latest fashion catalogues). Plus, all the knowledge that practically seeped from the place gave her the chills. No. Lutece Anthony was not a library person. And yet, she was here. Why? Because even after that conversation with Dolan in the cafeteria (or whatever the heck they called it here), she was confused beyond belief. How could she possibly believe in magic? Yet, how could she not, after all she had seen since her arrival? Life was confusing her right now, something it hadn't done since the age of about five.

And now she was lost beyond all belief. This didn't seem to be a normal library in any sense of the word. Most of the books had bizarre-o titles like "Easy spelles for the Beginner" or "A Prolonged History of the Eastern Purebloods", and those that didn't where classics, or the sort of fiction that nobody read anymore. Where was The Clique, or any decent teen magazine? Lutece couldn't wait until she turned thirteen. She was positive that life would be more glamorous then.

But then, she heard someone talking. Yes! Maybe the other person could help her get out of this place! Lutece quickly followed the voice, ending in front of an older girl who seemed to be doing...something. Lutece wasn't quite sure what. The other girl seemed to be repeating the name 'Martin'. Perhaps she was talking to her boyfriend? Lutece would love to have a real boyfriend.

"Sorry, I'm not Martin," Lutece said, popping up behind a bookshelf. "I'm Lutece Anthony, first year...Crotailius? Cro...Crotala? Something like that. Anyway, I'm lost. Could you help me?"

Will it make me look insane? by Grail

"Sorry, I'm not Martin..."

Grail turned, still blushing, to the first year girl. Well of course she wasn't Martin! Martin wasn't real! At least... he wasn't supposed to be. But, god, even though she couldn't see him despite the fact she knew he was there and though it felt like he was talking to her in her head, Grail felt he was real. Ove the single year she had been at Sonora, Grail Markner had read about a good amount of Magical Creatures. Could she not be insane, but instead be tormented by a certain type of magical creature? One that makes you think you're insane? She'd have to go to the Hospital Wing later and check on it. But right now, the first year.

"Of course not," Gray said, mustering up a smile. "Of course, not Martin..." she repeated, trying to keep her nerves. Trying to act as if she hadn't just been talking to herself (or some magical creature) a few seconds ago. "I'm Grail Markner, second year Aladren. And it's Crotalus," she stated. "You're lucky, two of my friends are in there. And it's not Pecari," she added for the sake of conversation. It didn't matter if she showed her true feelings for the "outgoing house." It wasn't as if she cared what they thought of her. They were just like Libby anyway. And despite the fact her little sister had helped sharpen Gray's Keeping abilities by playing soccer with her (even though balance was tough on a broom), Gray disliked Libby very much.

"I'm not surprised," Grail laughed, when the girl mentioned she was lost. "It's a confusing Library, very big. And getting lost is probably the only way you'll find this little section here," she made a waving motion to her area. Gray neglected to mention you could find it if you were Aladren as well, since the common rooms were close to here. Grail knew she wasn't supposed to tell people about where the common room was (even though she'd told Ginger last year, also finding out Pecari was located somewhere in the Gardens). "Of course I'll help you, come one." And Gray began to move out, trying to push her thoughts of Martin and Ariel away long enough to help this girl out of the Library.\n\n

Dunno. Should it? by Lutece

OOC: Sorry about the wait. ^^;;

Lutece prevented herself from looking at thegirl oddly as she blushed and grinned alternatively. And kept muttering something about this 'Martin', whom Lutece did not see any trace of. That was beyond weird. It was creepy weird. So the sooner she got a book about this 'Quidditch', the sooner she could leave, the better off she would be. Older girls were well and good, but older girls who seemed to have invisible boyfriends? Not exactly up her alley, thanks ever so.

"I'm looking for a book on 'Quidditch'" Lutece said quickly, before Grail could lead her out of the library too quickly. After all, if she didn't get the book, whatwas the point? She almost asked what was wrong with this 'Pecari', but held her tongue. Lutece did not want to get into too much of a conversation with Grail, if she could help it.

She shifted a bit uncomfortably and played a bit with her high ponytail. It looked especially good today, she had seen in the mirror. All this strange lighting made the blond highlights in her light brown hair appear seriously cool. Lutece followed the other girl as she moved away from where they had been standing, hopefully to get her out of this labyrinth that was a library.\n\n

Well... are you insane? by Gray

Great, Lutece seemed to think she was insane already. Stupid Martin, why did she have to talk to him? Grail silently wished she had never come to this school. It was turning her into an even bigger nut, an even bigger outcast than her old Muggle school. But, no, here she had Leo. Even if this place made her an even bigger nut than ever, now she at least had someone who cared about her like a sister. That was better than being a complete outcast.

"I'm looking for a book on 'Quidditch'"

"Trying out for the team?" Grail asked, in hopes of getting the younger girl's mind off Grail's obvious insanity. "What position are you going for? I'm Keeper, and I'm doing okay with it thanks to soccer with my sister." How she hated Libby, but now owed the girl something for helping her. Ugh, she hated owing her sisters things. That was always awful. "I know where the books are, just follow me, then I'll get you out, okay?"\n\n

Not especially. Just confused. by Lutece

Lutece shrugged a bit uncomfortably and followed the older girl. The sooner she could get out of this library and away from the strange girl the better.

"I play soccer. Goalie." Lutece responded to the question about playing Quidditch. She wanted to, and it honestly sounded like something she would enjoy from what Dolan had said last night, but she wasn't sure how. With any luck, the book she would get if she found the section would help clarify that for her. There were probably tryouts too, which meant she would have to ask Dolan to show her how to fly on a broom. It would be worth it in the end, especially since athletes were generally respected.

Until then, though, Lutece tried to take bigger steps so she could keep up with Grail. With any luck, she wouldn't have to come within a mile of the library after this.\n\n

Grail (and Paul now)

Confusion? It least it's not insanity. by Grail (and Paul now)

Grail nodded. So this girl played soccer too. "Me too, goalie I mean. So I take it you'll try for Keeper?" Grail asked, moving towards the Quidditch section of the Library. It wasn't that far from her section, so it didn't take too long to get near that certain section. "The Quidditch section is right through here," she smiled, waving her hand in the general direction as her eyes scanned for the insanity she called Martin. Gray still wanted to talk to him, but forgot for a second again that Martin wasn't real, and she couldn't see him anyway. Well, not technically.

When she reached the inside of the Quidditch section, she noticed a familiar boy there. No, not Martin, Martin didn't have black hair cold blue eyes. This was Paul Tarwater, Beater on the Aladren Quidditch team, the boy who had strangely run away from her when they both signed up for the team. Grail frowned and looked at Lutece. She obviously didn't know Paul... but...
"Paul, hey, what are you looking for?"

The black haired boy turned from his book on Beaters to the souce of the voice. Of course, the Mudblood Keeper and some kid who looked as if she wanted to grow up too fast. Paul winced slightly, and turned back to his book. "Markner. Kid." He acknowleged the both of them. "What are you looking for? Something to make you a better Keepe so you don't break your arm again?" Here Paul made a point in snorting.

Gray shot Paul a look. "No, actually I was helping Lutece here find something on Quidditch."

Paul looked over. "She's not in Aladren with us, I hope." He didn't add the other part of his statement, which was that their Quidditch team was already chosen. He wanted the Mudblood and the kid to find him rude and leave him alone. That way he could go to the counterspell section without them buggiing him.\n\n

Aahh! People! by Lutece

Lutece didn't know what Grail was talking about, with this 'Keeper' thing, so she just made some rather noncommital noises and hoped they would reach the section of books soon. They did, but now the older girl was looking around in a really, really weird way. It was rather unnerving.

However, what was even more unnerving was the boy who seemed to appear out of nowhere. Lutece, so distracted by Grail's oddness, hadn't even noticed the cold blue eyes examining her. Another unnerving thing. She nodded at the boy--Paul, Grail called him--and quickly slipped behind him, grabbed the first book she saw, and disappeared beyond the shelves. She could find her own way out, so long as it meant getting far, far away from the girl who talked to herself and the boy with the blue eyes who used words she didn't understand.\n\n
