Having some innocent fun! *lurks about* by Sophia Randolph

Sophia had an awesome midterm. Her father was doing much better, and she had the chance to get reacquainted with some of her friends from home. They hadn’t changed a lot, and it made her happy. The third-year worked during the mornings with her mother on their Apocathery, but the afternoons were hers to do what she pleased. She usually spent her time doing fun stuff with her neighbours and childhood friends. One memorable afternoon, they had played an hours-long snow fight, girls against boys. Of course, the girls had won. Charlie, Zack and Kevin had sulked for two days after it. It was really helpful that they lived in a Wizarding neighborhood, they could do magic without getting caught! If her parents knew, she would get grounded until she left for school again. They were very strict when it came to discipline, but the blonde girl had rekindled her love for bending rules. There was something about experimenting with how far they would bend, that thrilled the Pecari. It made life interesting.

It was the first week since her return, when she decided it would be beyond awesome to go explore the Gardens and really see what lived in there. She was sure nothing too deadly would sneak up on her and kill her in a gruesome way. Besides, the Gardens seemed like a very nice place to meet awesome people. She briefly wondered where Renée was, that girl sure had a knack for enjoying life.

She entered the Labyrinth Gardens merrily skipping, with her wand drawn. She knew some sort of precautions had to be taken. She wasn’t sure what could be lurking about. She continued to walk, without encountering anything remotely interesting on her path. She sat down on a cute little bench and sighed. This would be so much better if she had some company. They could chat and plot and create stories! But no, she alone on this adventure.

Suddenly a bright idea formed in her mind, but for that she needed someone to come along. She grinned mischievously at the epicness of what she was about to do. She got up and hid between some bushes. She was sure she couldn’t be seen, she was an expert when it came to hiding. She waited for someone to come along; she just hoped it wouldn’t take too long. Hiding was fun, but super uncomfortable.

Finally someone was walking through her spot. They eyes on the green-eyed girl shone with mischievousness before springing on the unsuspecting victim! “Boooo,” she screamed at the person. Sophia laughed at the end. This was so amusing!

Nothing about you is innocent. by Renée Errant

She felt almost as if she hadn't breathed since she'd left Sonora. But the fresh air of the gardens welcomed her in immediately and she sucked in her first taste of oxygen since midterm. Stretching her arms, she chose a path and kept on walking, the events at the Sinclair party having mainly seeped out of her mind, but the harsh words of her Abuela still ringing in her ear. 'Vergonzoso. Vergonzoso. Vergonzoso.' Her lips had trembled, her bright dark eyes widened, and she had resorted to the greatest weapon she had at her disposal - the puppy dog pout. Still, to her immense surprise, it hadn't been enough and Soledad had stayed angry at her. To her even greater surprise, it was her parents who had seemed amused by the fact that she hadn't made a good impression, and she had even been rewarded for it. 'I'm the only one who makes any sense in this family of mine.' But none of that mattered now because she was in the gardens. Lush beauty growing all around her, serene solitude and exciting adventure, and thought blessedly left her mind as her legs took over control.

Running her hands over a hedge, her smile, slightly crooked, began to widen with each step she took deeper into the labyrinth. The world always changed, and her mind (which already was soaked in fantasies) was made dizzy by the imagined sensations her body got in the habit of expecting with each turn of the road.

"BOOOO!"

Of course, one couldn't expect everything. Renée let out a shriek, and somehow find herself on her back after jumping clear into the air. She scrambled up again and looked wildly about her, gaze unfocused as she stared up at the something that had emerged from the bushed. 'A beast! Some fantastic creature! What is it? What is it? What is it?' Her gaze focused, and stayed staring at Sophia Randolph, face blank. And then Renée burst into giggles. "Must you always give me a heart attack?" She stepped forward to hug the girl, and kissed her on the cheek before pulling back and slapping her on the arm. "I have a half a mind to set all the creatures of the gardens on you." She was still giggling. "You know they're under my command." She said this as if she believed it, and for a moment she actually did. It was hard for her to remember that the gardens weren't just hers, and that she didn't rule them. To her, every place she found a special connection in almost seemed as if it were her birthright.

She looked Sophia over, happy to have gotten caught in the older girl's ambush. It was nearly as fun as actually being attacked by a magical creature. "You're playing highway robber?" She asked, tilting her head slightly and grinning. "Or just feel like giving other people a scare?"

Thanks? by Sophia

Sophia’s laughter came more freely once she realized her victim was Renée. It seemed she had a knack for scaring the younger girl. It was super entertaining, since her reactions to Sophia were just hilarious. The laughing hadn’t subsided, but she was feeling somewhat guilty for jumping out of the blue on her, she was sure Renée didn’t mind. More so, after her cordial welcome of the blonde third-year. After a few more minutes, her laughing subsided, enabling Sophia to actually speak. It had been too funny.

“I am sorry, I was sort of bored,” she smiled, her stomach hurting because of all the laughing she had done. The Pecari rolled her eyes playfully at her, command of the creatures, indeed. Renée seemed to have a very active imagination. Sophia was glad she was out of her hiding spot, being between bushes was not that fun. Her fingers slowly went through her hair, getting out random leaves and sticks from her hair. She just hoped that she didn’t have any bugs in there. So far, so good. “Yeah, please don’t. I happen to like being alive,” she smiled at her. Not that she believed her at any rate, but it was polite to just go along with her. Besides, spending time with Renée killed the boredom that sometimes swiped her life.

“I was just waiting for the first unsuspecting victim to scare,” she grinned. “Thankfully, it was you.” She liked the younger girl, Renée was sort of the little sister she never had, but wished she had. Sometimes it was a pain being an only child. Her parents were always focused on her. She had almost been caught during midterm, and that would not have been any fun business, at all. Sophia loved her parents, but they didn’t understand, they were very old, since she had been a sort of miracle child.

“How was your midterm?” she tilted her head to one side. Sophia was not sure about Renée’s upbringing. Sometimes she seemed to be a Pureblood, but half the time, she was more care-free, like a normal child would be. She knew her father was a Pureblood, it was blatantly obvious by his gestures, but he had given his back to that world to be with her mother. She was thankful for that, because if he hadn’t, she wouldn’t be roaming Sonora’s grounds. Her mother was a half-blood, and she hadn’t been enough for her grandparents. Never mind, they didn’t need them.

Coming from me, it's a compliment. :) by Renée

She rather liked the sound of Sophia’s laughter, even while it was at her expense. “Oh, don’t worry.” She reached out and pulled a ripped leaf hanging from the ends of her blonde locks. “I wouldn’t have them hurt you too seriously. Not as long as you stay useful.” She grinned. “Keep up the good work.” Despite her talk, Renée actually thought she was the follower of the two of them. It was easy to fall in place beside Sophia. She giggled at her apparent plot. "I'm glad it was me too. Though I was hoping to run into something big and beastly." She turned around briefly before focusing on Sophia again, hoping that her words would trigger some ironic plot twist where some big beastly thing actually would pop out at them.

"It was great!" Renée beamed brightly, fingers trailing down the sides of her robes as she remembered the feel of the soft fabric that had been her dress. "First it started off very boring, because I had to go to the Sinclair party - did you hear about that?" She made a face in distaste. "Mama throws much better parties. Everyone in New York comes. All the interesting people anyway." She loved to wander in through the rooms of whichever building her mother had rented, listening to the borderline psychotic rambles of the brilliance of philosophers, poets, politicians and other artists her parents deemed fit to invite. The cigar smoke wafting through the air, circling around her head and being dizzy had never been so exhilarating. "But I think my grandparents liked it. Anyway, that was boring but then we all went back home and I thought Angel - my brother - would leave right away for Sapienti but he stayed for a while and he took me places and stuff." She sighed in remembrance; Gabriel was the standard that she set everyone to. If people didn't come within his range of excitement, passion and vitality, they were free to be dismissed.

"We spied on the funny muggles, he let me fly around the Statue of Liberty, and he showed me a new tripping jinx." She giggled again, remembering her cousin Noah, whom they had briefly saw, stumble onto the floor after Gabriel had flicked his wand at him. "And you?" She began tapping her feet impatiently, full of energy, having gotten a little more from the scare Sophia had instilled in her. "Let's walk further in." She took the girl's arm and nudged her, wanting her to lead while she talked about her own midterm break. "Where are you from, anyway? What are your parents like? What did you do?" She was glad she had found someone at Sapienti who did come within Gabriel's range of excitement.

Yes! by Sophia

“Thank you,” she said when Renée got rid of something from her hair. Yes, hiding inside some bushes had not been a good idea. It had been uncomfortable and now her hair was surely a mess. Oh well, she couldn’t do anything about it right now. Plus, she had a good time scaring Renée. She wondered what would have happened if someone else had been her victim, probably it wouldn’t gone as well as it had. The younger girl had a knack for amusing her. “I am glad to know you find me useful,” she laughed and stuck out her tongue at Renée in a friendly manner. “Aren’t I beastly enough for you?” she said in mock-hurt. She extended her arms and began flapping them trying to imitate a roaring animal. Her depiction was more comic than scaring. She wasn’t a very good actress.

Sophia listened to Renée’s midterm adventures, it sounded fun. Well, for the most part. The party at the beginning of it sounded rather dull, and she had no idea about it. Probably it had been a stuffy Pureblood event, and since she wasn’t part of that word, she shook her head as an answer. She smiled at Renée’s remembrance of her mother’s parties. Her parents hardly ever attended one, just one here or there hosted by their neighbors. They lived in a little magical community that had neighboring bonds. They helped one another in everything. When her father had been sick, everyone had helped them.

Renée grabbed her hand and nudged her. She to walk further in, the Blonde third-year began stirring her further in. “My midterm wasn’t as eventful as yours. I spent it with my parents and we had a big Christmas party with all of our neighbors. We had a snow-fight, girls against boys. Of course, we won. Boys are such wimps,” she finished with a chuckle. She remembered it clearly, it had been super fun, with the exception of the miserly neighbor that had lectured them for accidentally breaking one of her windows, and making them pay. Sophia had been super angry, because she had a lot of money and never chipped in anything neighborhood related. When they had finished, her mother had treated them with hot chocolate. It had been amazing. “Your brother sounds awesome! I wish I had one just like him.” He really did, she wished she had someone like him to spend her time with. Being an only child was sort of lonely, but it had more positive aspects than negative.

“I live in Milwaukee. And you?” Sophia was curious to know more about Renée, she was adorable. Besides, her life sounded a whole lot more interesting than hers.

I'm happy you're happy. by Renée

She laughed outright at the imitation. "No, you're much too human." Sophia's playing around had seemed to almost stir the air up in the gardens, and as they later walked, Sophia recounting her midterm experiences, Renée's attention was grabbed by the rustling of the bushes around them, the tantalizing scent of adventure, but its concrete essence just out of reach. She held onto Sophia with a light grasp as they walked, imagining that they were two ladies of the court, stealing away from the guards (she saw the faces of her professors) to prolong their own fun.

"Your midterm sounds fun." She smiled, pleased at Sophia's mention of her brother. "There's no one quite like Gabriel. He's exactly what every man should be. But..." She paused for a moment. "If they can't be like him, then if they're like my father it would be just fine too." David was sweet, funny, a rambler, dizzingly passionate about mundane subjects (as it seemed to Renée), and was an infuriating father and husband through no fault of his own except his own insufferable unintentionally difficult nature. He was a darling, but a terror to live with it. Renée couldn't imagine having any other father; one without mood swings, and yet could be patient when she and Marianna went through theirs. Leaving a chocolate cake in the bedroom for them while he disappeared for about three days. David doted upon his wife and daughter and yet was extremely and consistently vocal about their faults, taking liberties that no one else dared to do. 'Me causa dolor, lo odio mucho, pero lo amo demasiado.' A nearly perfect man, with a great many imperfections. She loved him dearly.

"I live in Brooklyn." She tilted her head curiously at Sophia. "You don't seem like you come from Milwaukee." Her gaze grew vague, shifting just beyond the older girl as they walked, and then returned to her. "No." She pronounced definitively. "You'll come to New York. I'll let you stay in one of our houses if you want, because I'll be traveling right after school. All over the world." She gasped excitedly. "You can come with! Oh, yes!" She giggled. "You'll be the excellent transportation!" She stopped and backed behind Sophia, leaping lightly onto her back and wrapping her legs over her waist, arms sliding down to grasp her around the neck, doing her best not to hold too tight lest she choke her chosen pack mule. "Now I give you the chance to play at being my beast." She laughed and urged her forward.

"Now tell me more about you. I want to know everything! You interest me. Tell me about Milwaukee. Why do you live there and not in New York?" It didn't cross her mind that it wasn't Sophia's choice. The question had a general disbelief in it as well; why would anyone choose to settle anywhere but in a major beautiful city. In Renée's mind, the only acceptable alternatives to New York City were Venice, Paris, all of Spain, a place inhabited by interesting creatures and that showed up all the time, or Sonora for students. Everywhere else could be visited and explored, but not lived in. "And tell me what presents you got for Christmas." She added as an after thought. "Tell me that first." She smiled from above and behind. "But don't tell me which presents you liked and which ones you didn't. I want to guess."

I am by Sophia

OOC: Sorry for the delay.

Sophia listened to Renée talk about her family. It was nice to know a little bit more about her background, it was a way of deepening their weird friendship. Sophia had friends, but none of them were as interesting as Renée. Her life was filled with things hers didn’t have. Like stuffy Pureblood parties, she didn’t want to be part of that life, but it was interesting to know about it. It gave Sophia a wider range of knowledge, and every kind of knowledge was important. School was too, but that had to be complemented with street-smarts, and that came from every place, even a younger girl.

Renée was suddenly rearranging her life, Sophia just looked at her. She liked her life, it was a nice life. “I like Milwaukee,” she responded to her very seriously. She liked Renée, but she wasn’t going to let her treat her like that, she had climbed on her back and called her a mule. The girl wasn’t that light. “Hey, Missy, back down,” she said half-seriously while squirming to get her off. Once she had done so, she looked at her.

“We can be friends, but I don’t like being used as a pack mule,” she nodded. Especially if she hadn’t offered the service, she wouldn’t have anything against doing it, but being forced to do so was not nice. She smiled, showing her that she wasn’t mad, but boundaries were necessary. She grabbed her hand and began walking once again, it was hard being mad at Renée. “My gifts were very varied. I got clothes, books, and a box of magical make-up.” That last one had been from her mother, since she thought a 13-year old should begin to act more like a Lady than a girl. It had been fun experimenting with it with her mother by her side. It had been a nice bonding experience, one he wanted to repeat once she went home for the summer. “What did you get?” Renée probably had received better presents than her.

“Milwaukee is nice. I live in a wizarding neighborhood near Lake Michigan. It has nice weather, or I got used to it. Been living there all of my life,” She went through every question asked by Renée. “I know New York, went with my parents once, if that makes you feel better,” she laughed. "What do you like about Brooklyn?"

What happens when you get me started on Brooklyn... by Renée

She felt herself slipping off, and stumbled back onto the ground, genuinely confused at the sudden turn of events and Sophia's next words. Renée gaped at the older girl. Her first response was shock ('Um... am I not getting my way?'), the next anger ('I'm damn well going to have my way!'), which dimmed just as suddenly, blossoming into respect ('Hey, she didn't let me have my way.'). "Alright." She said simply, gazing at Sophia with a touch more admiration than before. "You live in Milwaukee and you're not a pack mule." She rather wished she could be attracted to the company of those more subservient to her, but she was cursed with the desire to spend time with interesting people. And interesting people tended to be a bit more strong willed; enough so that Renée often didn't get her way. She still retained an air of entitlement, but she was the sort of person who couldn't respect anyone unless that person tried to knock her down a few degrees. Marianna was, in her own way, similar. As was Gabriel, who tended to like women who weren't so utterly charmed by him.

Feeling her hand grabbed, Renée followed Sophia's lead. 'I'd still rather be carried though.' She silently grumbled. She had an image of the older girl sending her into the corner or something, and kept silent. If anything seriously annoying happened to her, she could always just order the creatures of the labyrinth to carry her off. At the moment, she was fine with Sophia thinking herself truly in charge. She listened to the presents and thought carefully. "You liked all of them." She pronounced. "But the books... not as much?" She ventured a guess. "What were the books, anyway?"

She had to think a moment about what she herself got. "My father - my step-father I mean - " She had to remember to keep that story up, or her abuela would never forgive her. "comes from a Jewish family so his parents gave me a gift every day for Channukah. Small things; like books, art supplies, celebrity posters, and a stuffed animal." She smiled. "That was nice. My brother gave me another painting. He hardly ever does paintings because sketching is so much easier, but he always gives me paintings for my birthdays or holidays." She had one of his in her room in Crotalus, and then the most recent one hung up in her room back in Brooklyn. "My parents got me a camera together, mama made me a dress, and papa gave me a book on the history of magical creature legislation. But it's kind of hard so I'm going to wait awhile before I try to read it." She giggled. "He always gives me books I don't know how to read." David's philosophy was that just by having it in the room the ideas would sink in.

"Oh, well, you live near a lake." Renée thought for a moment, then extended an olive branch. "Well, that's acceptable. That's quite nice actually." Not as great as New York, but it had a magic to its own. "Do you have mermaids? Any sea creatures that pop up from time to time? Ghosts of old pirates... no. They never sailed in lakes." She bit her lip. "But you must have some sea demon, si?" David spoke a little mermish, though not fluently. Being a cultural anthropologist, he was fluent in many languages and dialects.

"Oh, you came to New York!" Renée's expression went from curious to utter delight, her slightly crooked smile wide and she squeezed Sophia's hand in pleasure. "Well then you know the beauty of it! Oh, there's nothing I like about Brooklyn." She laughed. "I love Brooklyn. All of it. Papa says that all Brooklyn natives - especially girls - are ruined forever because they can never live anywhere else. No matter where we go we always come back. It's because Brooklyn is so - so - so," She visibly struggled for the words. "Oh, I can't explain! There's always something around the corner. All of New York is such a rush. Everyone's always going somewhere, and it's so beautiful. Because everyone's doing something! And you can find something to do all the time. You're never bored. But in Brooklyn," her voice lowered a little, her eyes wider and brighter beneath the long dark lashes, and she wasn't really seeing her companion. "There's a sort of quiet there that's nice. You can walk for blocks in some places and not see anybody. The water's dirty, the buildings are ruined, and old train tracks run through the streets in some places but - I can't explain -" Nevertheless, she tried. "It's so beautiful." She sighed in her private rapture. "Everything is jumbled and thrown in together. My father says it spoils you. Spoils you for the rest of the world. I don't know. I like other places. My family is from Spain. That's sort of home too. But Brooklyn... Brooklyn es mi corazón." She placed her free hand over her heart, was silent for a minute, and then giggled.

"What do you love most about here? About Sonora." She loved talking - enjoyed talking about herself tremendously - but knew herself (or thought she did) front and center. She wanted to know Sophia.

...I can see...Never again.... by Sophia

OOC: Long posts are awesome...and I can't really comment on the last bit hahahaha

The third-year was rather pleased that Renée got the point. She wasn’t going to be bullied into doing anything she didn’t want to do. Not moving and not acting as a mode of transportation. When she had arrived at the school, she had been a tad bit more reserved, but that was changing, and she was regaining her former sparkly personality. At first, she had been afraid of what the new experience would bring her, and she let her insecurities take a hold of her, successfully shadowing her true self. She wasn’t particularly proud of that. It had happened and now she was coming out victorious. It was like she had suddenly woken up from a boring dream, where the only thing she did was study and try to be perfect for her parents’ sake. Sophia had been worried that if her grades weren’t good enough, her family would somehow be poorer than they already were. In all honesty, they weren’t poor, since they had enough to live decently with a luxury here and there. She had been silly and she was well aware of it.

They continued to walk further in, still chatting about nonsensical things. She was enjoying this simple chat, it wasn’t serious, but had the distinct ability of having Sophia learn something about Renée. She seemed to completely adore her father and brother, and everything that surrounded them. That was nice. Family was very important, and they were always there for you. Well, in almost every scenario, not in hers, because her extended family was just full of snobby, awful people. “I actually liked every one of my presents. My parents know me very well,” she scratched her chin. “The books are a series that center on the journey of a witch in search of perfecting a youth potion.” She was quite excited about starting them; people said they were really good. “Your presents sound awesome,” she said in awe. She had gotten a camera! Sophia could only dream about a gift like that.

She smiled at Renée she was sort of adorable. “The lake has demons and all, but I haven’t seen them, because they usually dwell on the deeper end, and my parents don’t let me go that far. For my protection and all that,” she commented. Sophia had never disobeyed that order, it would have been a stupid thing to do, considering her lack of protection magic knowledge, but once she was confident enough in her knowledge, she would venture and see what the lake had to offer. A couple of the older kids always had races to a rock in the middle of it, and she wanted to join them.

The third-year Pecari let Renée talk about Brooklyn, and how awesome it was. She couldn’t really relate to what she was saying. For one, she didn’t know Brooklyn, she had visited Manhattan, and she had just visited the tourist places. Nothing else. “That sounds nice, I may have to go someday,” she smiled. Sophia found Renée’s penchant to randomly use words she didn’t understand quite cute. She assumed it was Spanish, since she had mentioned that her family was from Spain. Merlin, what she would give to go to Europe.

The last question got her by surprise and she spent a few minutes pondering over it. She liked a lot of things about the school, especially now that she was getting to know it under a whole new light. “I can’t really say something specific. I like a lot of things. Like the interesting people and all the new things I have been learning. The Gardens…” She really couldn’t say just one thing. “What about you?” she was curious to know what Renée liked the most about the school.

Wise decision. by Renée

At the mention that there actually were sea demons inhabiting Sophie's lake, Renée already fast forwarded the two of them to the bottom of it in her mind. She saw the mermaids laughing at them, holding sharp looking tridents, a chorus of them singing in their odd beautiful language, their waxy skin glimmering in the green light. Something slimy grabbed her around the ankles with surprising strength, and her chest had begun to hammer and burn with both excitement and lack of oxygen. 'Maybe Michigan... isn't... so... bad.' She blinked and came back to the conversation.

"Oh, yes!" She beamed up at Sophia. "I know Mama will let you stay over if you wanted to. I mean, we have inns in Brooklyn, but those aren't as comfortable I don't think." Marianna and Gabriel had lived in one for a year before the money had run out, and she finally accepted David's offer to move in. "I hope one day you do come."

They continued walking through the gardens, and Renée kept her eyes peeled for any sign of an interesting creature, her ears alert for any sound while Sophia answered her question. "The gardens, of course." She agreed with her. "And I like the people too. You," She smiled. "And other people. You know Neal, right? He's nice. And I like my Quidditch team." She didn't know the individuals all that well, but she respected Charlie and everyone had excellent athletic ability. "I love Quidditch here. My brother's a chaser too at Sapienti University. That's why I tried out for the position, but now I actually really like it. Do you like Quidditch?"

She paused for a moment, and then added in an breathless rush. "And the library! I help stack the books and I get to find all these great stuff that I love that I would have never found! And then MARS of course! How could I forget to mention that! It's just amazing that something like that can exist here." She shook her head in wonderment. "But still, I rather the gardens." She smiled brighter and squeezed her hand, turning a corner in the gardens, her eyes still on the look out for a creature. "Sorry, I interrupted. Do you like Quidditch?"

*Is wise* by Sophia

Sophia laughed at Renée’s inability to follow a conversation. The girl sure could talk, and now that she thought about it, her ramble was centered on her, almost always. She raised an eyebrow at her realization. However, she still liked Renée. Besides, she found that particular characteristic quite adorable. The girl still had a lot of time to grow-up, not that Sophia was that older than her, or wiser, but a year made a difference and it was evident.

“MARS is awesome, you can do a lot of things there,” not that the third-year Pecari had actual interest on Quidditch, or dancing, or music. The only room that seemed like it would be a blast was the water room. She had been thinking about heading there and having a good time, sometime during the semester. Right now, school work was taking a hold of her life. “But yes, the Gardens are by far the best feature of the school, closely followed by the Cascade Hall,” she smiled. Sophia didn’t actually understand why she liked the gardens so much, she hated CoMC and the gardens were supposed to be filled with creatures. That one time in her first CoMC class, had ruined the subject for her. She was scared of them, but it was something she was not going to share with Renée.

The third-year Pecari squeezed Renée hand in return, “You should take breaths while talking, you know breathing is important,” she teased her. “I like watching Quidditch, not playing it. I am not a very big fan of heights,” she confessed somewhat shyly. Renée was the first person she had admitted it to. Sophia had never liked flying, she couldn’t point the reason why, she just knew that her feet were better off on the ground than dangling off some broom, with nothing but air as a safety net. Not that her family could to buy her one, but it was better that way. Her father had been disappointed since he was a Quidditch fanatic, and it had been horrible to have her only daughter say no to the sport, she sometimes felt awful about that. Sophia preferred playing exploding snap, or something less dangerous or that could potentially end with her life, the green-eyed girl loved her life. There was no point in endanger it that recklessly. “I am super good at exploding snap, if you are interested,” she chuckled.

*bows to one who is wise* by Renée

"You only like Cascade Hall for all the pumpkin juice you can steal." Renée teased. "I'd rate the gardens first, the pitch second, the library third, and then MARS." She was looking up at Sophia and missed a small hill in the path, stumbling over it and imagining her mother with idle amusement. Marianna and Soledad had very little in common, it seemed, but both had the terrible sort of tick in which they were physically unable to stop themselves from laughing (and not their affected lady-like laugh, but a short sharp derisive "ha!") whenever they saw somebody fall, trip, or stumble. It was utterly impossible to go ice skating with Marianna. David would have to take Gabriel and Renée to the rink himself; Marianna on the sidelines, gripping her sides and her face growing red with restrained laughter. Renée always went back to these images whenever she did stumble. She harbored no resentment, her abuela and mother really couldn't help it.

Having long recovered her gait, Renée continued to look up at Sophia as they walked and talked, enjoying the chatter that meant little in content. It wasn't really about the words today, she was just enjoying the company, while still subconsciously trying to figure out if Sophia would be an ideal audience, or someone Renée would enjoy following. "I wonder what other schools are like though. You know, do they have gardens too? You know some people here actually don't like the gardens." Her tone was both informative and scandalized. "How is that possible? I think every school should have gardens. Have you seen any other schools or is Sonora it?" She knew she had cousins that were going to be attending RMI either next year or the year after that. And then, of course, there was Gabriel's old school in New York, and then the ones in Spain. Some of those had gardens, but in New York the students just made their way to the various parks offered.

She began to grow impatient with just walking around (though with Sophia it was pleasant enough), wishing some scary monster would suddenly spring up on them like Sophia had done earlier. At the mention of Sophia's fear, Renée's eyes snapped to her face, drawn to the suddenly shy tone rather than the content of her words, which hit her just a moment later. "Oh..." This fear surprised her, and while Renée had been genuinely interested in Sophia before, now she was really interested, not to mention confused. The pedestal the older girl was on shook, tipping precariously in her mind. It didn't quite fit in her idolized image of the older girl for her to have any fears, particularly of something that Renée herself enjoyed... 'Wow, I would never admit to something so embarrassing... she's so brave!' The pedestal wobbled, and then settled back in a steady position, the idolized image of Sophia saved. "You must have hated flying lessons." She said, her tone touched with just a dab of sympathy and admiration. "Oh, I've never played exploding snap before, actually. Mama doesn't like it, or want me to do it..." She paused, as they neared a bench. "So yeah," she laughed. "I'm interested."

She let go of her hand and walked toward the marble white bench, hesitating before she sat fully on it, the surface was colder than what it should be. She lowered herself and a cooling sensation shot up her back. Some kind of cooling charm, probably. She looked over at Sophia, brushing the long dark curls that chose at that moment to flop all over her face. "Lo siento, estoy cansado. Mis pies…" She pointed to her feet, kicking off the bright red flats she wore. "I just want to rest them for a moment." She smiled and flexed the deeply tanned skin, studying them for a moment. "What other games do you like?"

OOC: same drill. I am in finals. I won't reply in a timely manner. Sorry!

Sophia couldn’t stop the chuckle that escaped her lips when Renée tripped over a small hill. She didn’t mean to be perceived as making fin of her, because she honestly wasn’t, but there was something funny about it, and Sophia couldn’t stifle it. Life was like that. “Yeah, the pumpkin juice certainly has its allure,” she smiled at the comment on when they had met before midterm hit. It had been quite the amazing meeting, if she was being honest. Epic, because it had involved a lot funtimes, like Sophia being out of bed after curfew and adventuring into the Cascade Hall for something to drink and finding Renée asleep on a table. It had been quite the eventful night.

The older girl was content with the way the conversation was flowing. It was effortless and with each passing minute, Sophia felt she got to know her a little bit better. She felt like a big sister and that was sort of rewarding. Someone to pass all of her knowledge, she was wise or something. She had found someone to pass on everything, and that was something good!

“No, Sonora is the only one,” she scratched her chin. “Well, I was supposed to attend a small school in Milwaukee, closer to home, but my father decided that Sonora had more to offer in terms of everything. So, here I am.” Sophia took a deep breath, taking in the amazing smell of the nature around them. She had always loved nature, but not animals. Plants and animals were very different things. “Gardens are awesome, everyone should like them!” she proclaimed while smiling to the younger girl. In fact, Sophia had been working on a small garden in her backyard. It was amazing and her mother had promised to look after it while she was away at school.

Sophia let a few seconds for the information she had given Renée to fully sink in. She always got weird looks when she mentioned being afraid of heights, that was why she always changed the topic of conversation, but somehow she just said it to Renée. They were friends, weren’t they?

She laughed, “Yes, I hated them. I told Coach Pierce I wasn’t doing it.” A smile grazing her face, she had made peace with that and really didn’t care what people thought, she was just annoyed when they started telling her how weird it was. Renée suddenly sat down on a bench and talked in another language, and of course, Sophia had no idea what she has said. She just sat down on the floor and watched Renée take off her shoes. “I’ll teach you any time you want. I am quite good at it,” she grinned mischievously. “I like almost every kind of board game,” she finished, trying to make a mental list of what those were.

You think I'm your pet, don't you? by Renée

She brought her feet up and twisted the ankles around, feeling the soft cracks that they made and wincing. It didn’t hurt, and she was physically unable to stop herself from cracking her knuckles and the like, but she couldn’t stand the sound it produced either. “Yeah, I want you to teach me.” She was immediately impressed by Sophia’s confidence, assuming that it meant Sophia was the best at it, and no one could best her. ‘I’ll be learning from the master.’ Without truly caring about the game she was excited. Something new to learn and explore.

“What other board games do you like?” She glanced back down at her bare feet and frowned slightly at the clear nails. In an idle murmur she spoke, “Mama says I won’t be able to paint them, or get my ears pierced, or anything until I’m thirteen.” She only had to wait a few months until the summer vacation for that to happen, but she was twelve now and felt that she’d be stuck in that body forever. “Do you like chess?” She asked, dismissing the previous comments she had made. “That’s the only board game I’m really good at.”

She smiled while Sophia answered, looking over at her own ears, and checking on her nails to see if there was any kind of artificial adornment. She actually preferred the sight of women without jewelry, without paint of their nails, or earrings hanging from their ears. She didn’t dislike it at all either, because she had inherited the standard Errantez trait of adoring and revering beauty. But she preferred to see beautiful people without any additions upon themselves. Marianna never needed any make up, really. She could just wear her own dark curls long and flowing over her shoulders, let a simple dress hang over her shoulders, drape across her hips, and she could be perfect.

Renée preferred this natural look but what she valued over that was not being denied something. And she was being denied jewelry other than bracelets, rings, and necklaces, as well as make up and nail polish. She didn’t want it, she just needed something to focus on, something to consume the relentless need she felt to be… obsessive about something. “Sophia,” she smiled and leaned forward. “What’s something that you just like to do? I mean, just like to do for fun.” Right now, Sophia could serve as her obsession. She wasn’t sure how much time she had left, when their freedom would be curtailed, but was willing to ignore it for now. She stretched her feet once more before she brought them down to scrape at the back of her flats. “Oh, we can go walk again whenever you want.”

How did you came up with such an idea!? by Sophia

“Sure, I will teach you,” Sophia said with a smile lingering on her lips. Renée seemed eager to learn and she liked teaching what she knew. It made her feel somewhat powerful. She was the best in her neighborhood, when they played Exploding Snap tournaments, she always won, and she absolutely loved it. They stayed where they were and continued chatting. This was exactly how she envisioned having a little sister would be like. Her mother said, that younger siblings were usually a nuisance, and that she should be glad she didn’t have to deal with that. Her mother had been one of 5, she being the second child. Sophia knew her mother loved her aunts and uncles, but she also knew that they bickered a lot. So, she really had no idea what it was to actually have a younger sibling.

Sophia laughed at Renée, not because she was making fun of her, but because she understood what she meant when she mumbled about her mother. “My mother just started teaching me all about make-up this midterm. She says thirteen is a good age to start with those things. The make-up kit I got as a Christmas present is at my house. However, I had my ears pierced when I was a baby,” she said and touched the small pearls that rested on her ears. The blonde had always been careful about not losing them, she was certain that if she did, she would not get new ones. There was no point in spending money on such frivolities, if they didn’t have the money.

The blonde tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear and smiled, “I do know how to play, but I have to admit that I am not that good at it. Are you any good?” she was curious, maybe they could teach one another. That would be super fun. The third-year Pecari took a deep breath, thinking about how to answer Renée’s last question. There were a lot of things that she liked doing just for fun, like swimming or cooking, but she couldn’t decide on just one. “Well, I think my favorite is hanging out with friends, because you can end up doing a lot of fun and interesting things,” she ended grinning. Having friends was the best. “Yours?”

After Renée finished answering her question, Sophia got up and brushed her clothing. She looked up at the sky, it was getting later. “I think we should head back, don’t you agree?” she smiled and offered her hand to Renée.
