May Gail, Groundskeeper

Who wants to help me de-gnome?! by May Gail, Groundskeeper

May pulled back her jet black hair, observing the center of the Labyrinth Gardens. The gnomes had overrun it again. May was unsure of how many times she had actually degnomed the place that year. It had to be a lot more than normal. Maybe she wasn’t good at it or something? Eh, whatever. De-gnoming was fun and de-stressing!

She pulled on her Muggle biker gloves with a grin. Sure, they were fingerless, but they still looked awesome. The groundskeeper, in her skinny black jeans, black sneakers, and red top, began to de-gnome the gardens.

It was towards the end of the year, and her mother was already harping on her. So what if she liked being a groundskeeper? She had studied Transfigurations in college and could go back to get a degree in education easily enough, but she wasn’t sure she wanted to. Her mother was making her take summer classes, though, to work on getting that teaching degree. May didn’t plan on leaving her job as Groundskeeper, though. No way.

Catching an unsuspecting gnome by the ankles, May spun around several times and let go, watching the gnome fly over one of the garden hedges. She shook her head to get rid of the dizziness. No wonder this worked in disorienting the critters; she was disoriented herself! Gnomes weren’t very bright and soon they were coming out of their holes to see what the commotion was. May tackled another, repeating the ankle grabbing and gnome spinning. After throwing the other, she noticed someone was watching her.

“Hey, you want to help?” she grinned, her expression very bright and bubbly, despite the dark eyeliner and dark red lipstick she had on. “De-gnoming is the best way to de-stress, I swear.”

OOC: Student or professor, any and all are welcome to help May with the degnoming!

It wasn't on my to-do list, but okay! by Elly Eriksson

As someone who had spent far too many hours in the library this year, Elly desperately wanted to get back to her roots. Or, well, anything's roots, really. She just wanted to be outdoors, enjoying the sunshine and the freedom of few responsibilities. The end of an era was coming; a few short weeks and she would no longer be able to stroll round the labyrinth. Elly didn't think too much about that - she was getting close to becoming emotional, and that was a shade too girly for her preferences.

At first she headed for her swing, her feet leading her there as if on auto-pilot. When she got there, though, Elly didn't want to swing. Seven years ago she had built that swing with Saul and Simon - neither of whom remained at Sonora. She'd had swinging competitions with Meredith and Echo in their second year, when two of them could have sat side-by-side on the smooth wooden seat. Elly'd had her sixteenth birthday party in that very clearing.

Woah, there went the emotion again. Swiftly turning on her heel, Elly marched further into the gardens, resolved to have a bloody good time, not be miserable. That's when a gnome flew over her head. Grinning - simply because it was funny to have a potato with arms and legs fly over you - Elly rounded a couple more corners to see who was de-gnoming. She stopped when she came across the new groundskeeper, mid-fling. Elly'd never really spoken to Miss Gail. Partly because, well, it was normal for students to not speak to the groundskeeper. But mostly because the last groundskeeper had been Simon, and there was no way the new groundskeeper could be that cool.

Yet as Elly stood there, she had to admit that Miss Gail was pretty cool. She reminded Elly of Sorrel a little bit, but in a friendly and far less scary way. She looked about Sorrel's age, too, not being that much older than Elly herself. The young woman's outfit was far harsher than Elly's own baggy, faded jeans and sleevless green tee, but she was smiling as she asked Elly to help out.

"Not sure I really get stressed," Elly replied, stooping suddenly to grab a gnome running towards her ankles. She gave him a good swing a let go, sending him soaring over the labyrinth. "Banishing might be more effective," she mused out loud, "but this way is more fun." Extending a hand towards the groundskeeper, she introduced herself with a friendly smile. "Elly Eriksson, Head Girl," she said, just in case her identity wasn't yet known.
