Elly Eriksson

Friday lunchtime, as advertised, Elly was waiting at the entrance to the gardens. She was hoping that Saul and Irene would show up to help her out, maybe Caedence, too - though Caede wasn't always very people-friendly.

True to her word, Elly had set out a table full of refreshments (it was lunchtime, after all). The prairie elves had come up trumps, as usual, and provided an assortment of sweet and savoury buffet foods, and several jugs full of juice.

Unfortunately, Elly didn't have blankets for attendees to sit on, like Echo and Brett had brought to Novelling meetings, but the ground was dry - hopefully nobody would mind sitting on the floor. The other materials she had collected together were several sheets of parchment and a variety of writing implements - both Magic and Muggle.

As people started to arrive, Elly greeted them with a friendly smile and encouraged them to either help themselves to food or to take a seat (or both, if they wanted). When a reasonable crowd had gathered, she set off a short siren from her wand to call attention. "Welcome everyone," she said with a wide smile, "to the first meeting of the creative writing club!"

"This isn't anything serious, it's just a bit of fun. Every week we'll meet here and try some new creative writing technique, or game, or sometimes we'll look at examples of others' work that we like." She'd left the club purposefully vague - she didn't have much of a clue about creative writing and didn't want to make it too restrictive. "You don't have to attend every meeting, and if you want to bring a friend along that's fine - we're very informal."

Elly graced the group with another wide smile before she continued. "So today I just want you to get to know each other, have some food, and maybe write down some ideas" (here she indicated the pens and paper) "of activities you might like to do. Oh," she added the last sentence as an afterthought, "and after midterm I'll tell those of you who don't know about Novelling Fury. Any questions?"

Saul

The first year Echo did Noveling Fury! Saul had been tricked into it. With four or five novels under his belt now, he didn't mind writing so much. He still couldn't spell, but mostly his story was dictated. His enchanted quill handled the actual writing part.

Elly's version of the club was a little different. The Fury! would still take place in February, but now the writing club met year round, which was kind of cool.

He arrived at their Garden Clearing bearing three large blankets. One came from his bed, the second from Matt's, and the last was Simon's. He didn't think Matt would mind. Echo and Brett had always provided the blankets before, and they weren't here any more, so as Echo's roommate, Saul felt it was his duty to shoulder that particular task. Unfortunately, getting into Simon's room had been a little trickier than he'd thought, since the groundskeeper had changed his wards without telling Saul the new password, so Saul arrived a few minutes late.

A few people were already scribbling things down on parchment, so he guessed Elly had already made introductions.

"Hey, Ells," he greeted the red-headed Pecari with a grin, and looked over the selection of food approvingly. "Everything looks excellent. Sorry I'm late. Simon changed his password. Help me set these out?" He dropped the blankets down in a heap on the grass and picked up the top one to start spreading it out on a spot not currently occupied by writers. "Hey, guys!" he called out to a group sitting on the grass, "We've got blankets to sit on now if you want them," and gestured to the two still heaped together.

Turning back to Elly, he grinned at his friend and nodded at the one in his hand, "If Matt asks, it totally wasn't me who stole his blanket." He didn't even try to pretend he wasn't guilty of exactly that crime. Matt had been his roommate long enough to know that anything not warded and/or nailed down was likely to walk off if Saul needed it.

"He's totally not going to know what to do next year when all his stuff stays where he left it," Saul added, a hint of sadness creeping into his tone as he remembered - again - that he was going to be leaving most of his friends behind when he graduated at the end of the year. "I feel kinda bad for leaving him all alone. D'you think the Headmistress would let me come back next year if I failed all my RATS?" It wasn't the first time the thought had occurred to him. He wasn't even sure that it wasn't the first time he'd asked Elly that not entirely rhetorical question.
