Classes were over for the day and Anabel had been certain to be ahead with her homework-- while she was not an Aladren, she was a Crotalus and she wasn't about to be embarrassed with a missed assignment. Being ahead on her studies also afforded her time to do the things she actually enjoyed. She enjoyed reading, from time to time, and writing in her diary, and she also had a fondness for nature. Of course, that fondness did not fall in the tree-hugger sort of category, but one could not possibly grow up in Georgia and not find beauty in her surroundings.
Arizona was different, however. It was flat and dry and it tended to make her skin itchy. It was strange how dry everything was with the absence of moisture in the air. Anabel was so used to humidity. In Georgia, it was even humid during the wintertime, the cold feeling all the more penetrating and bone-chilling.
A desert-chill, she had come to learn, was quite different. It was strange that it could be so hot in Arizona during the daytime, even if Sonora did have ways to regulate the temperatures, and it was so freakishly cold at night.
As it was still Daylight Savings Time, the sun was still above the horizon when Anabel decided to go for a walk. As she exited the rather large building of the school, she breathed in deeply, wrapping her light coat around her in more of a habit than as a way to ward off any chill she might feel. At a moderate pace, Anabel made her way across the grounds and to the gardens.
Having been around magic her entire life, Anabel failed to see the wonder in the fact that the gardens were actually there. Although she didn't know the charms, she did know that charms existed in order to allow rarities such as the Labyrinth Gardens to occur in desert areas.
Although there weren't large oak trees covered with Spanish moss or wild wisteria, the hedges of the gardens gave her a sense of home. That sense was faint, at best, as the hedges of the gardens formed a maze that tended to annoy her from time to time but the randomly placed courtyards seemed to make it worthwhile.
Always taking a right upon entering the maze, Anabel had made up her mind to find something new. Taking a left, Anabel weaved her way through the unfamiliar section of the maze, not knowing what to expect but hoping that she’d find something interesting, at least. Turning a corner sharply, Anabel had stamp down the urge to scream as she practically ran right into someone. Her first instinct was to yell at the other person, but biting her tongue, Anabel waited a moment before saying, “Goodness. Are you alright?”
