Novelling Fury Fest! [tag: all friends of Fury!] by Echo Elms
Well, this was it. The end of Novelling Fury! was at hand. It was the March 2nd and it was time for the novelling community to have their end of Fury Fest. There was a button making station--thanks to his dad who'd surprised him with a box of supplies and templates--which would let Fury participants color and cut out circles that said, "2nd Annual Novelling Fury! Participant" or "2nd Annual Novelling Fury! Winner." There were also funny ones like "Beware the Furious Noveller" and ones that just said "Fury!" Then, once you had your colored-in circle of paper, you stuck it in the button maker and waa-lah! You had a button to pin on your coat or bookbag. There were some cool choices.There were also goodies from the House Elves like at the all day event, but this time there were also two punch bowls (one of pumpkin juice and one of fruit punch) and the house elves had provided them with a carrot cake, chips, salsa, and sweets.
He'd passed the word around the novellers to come at 4pm today and it was just about that time so novellers were starting to show up. Echo made a point to go around to everyone so he could invite them to make a button and partake of the food, and find out if they finished their novel and how many words they reached. He was keeping a list so he could announce the winners later on.
For all the success Fury! had this year, he was a little disappointed in himself. He only made it to 40,000 words this year, so he was just a participant this time. It was okay, though... he'd spent most of the last week organizing this party to let his novellers know how much he appreciated their participation. Now to find out if it was worth it.
He grinned at his first comers. When this was over, he was so going to sleep for three days.\r\n\r\n

Beware the Furious Noveller? by Saul Pierce
Saul arrived at the March Two Event carrying the stack of parchments, notebook paper, napkins, construction paper and loose leaf that made up his novel. (This was probably the other reason he hadn't been able to get anyone to read last year's novel - it was too frightening to look at.) It was magically bound together so that none of the pages would be lost. A large sheet of blue construction paper was wrapped around it like a book cover, and on the front were the words:The Pregnant Lady

He'd tried to think of a catchier title, but nothing better had come to him. This story had first, foremost, and always been about The Pregnant Lady, so he figured if anything had a right to be a title, it was that phrase. Besides, he was pleased enough with his cleverness for making the cover. It was much less obvious as a word filler to make the word quota than the fifty-plus "Verys" he'd used last year to describe just how happily ever after Echo and Elly had lived. If the summary on the back ended with the sentence, "And I need fifteen more words to make my word count so here they are," well, at least he was being honest, right?
Unfortunately, Arthur Raymond had turned out to be just a little too brilliant and had solved the mystery by word 41,078. Saul had needed to tack on a whole thing at the end about Annabelle having the two most beautiful babies in the world (they were twins - because Saul couldn't decide whether to name the baby Pepper or Briony but since they both have red hair, Saul had decided it wasn't too far fetched to have them be sisters) and Mitch escaping prison and Arthur saving the day when he tried to kidnap Annabelle and the girls, just so Saul would have something to write about for the last 9,000 words. Even then he'd come up short, but that was when he'd smacked upon the brilliant cover idea, so it all worked out fine in the end.
Echo caught up to Saul almost as soon as he got there, and Saul grinned at him proudly as he showed off the front cover of his novel. "Exactly 50,000 words," he proclaimed. "Annabelle, Pepper, and Briony are safe and Mitch is behind bars once more." Then something Echo had just said registered and he perked up even more excitedly than before as he turned toward the tables set up a few feet away. Barely pausing for breath, he continued, "Did you say there's a button maker?"

He bites. by Echo Elms
Echo put Saul's name down as having finished his novel. He smirked at the character names and hoped that Pepper and Briony ended up in as far-fetched an adventure as he and Elly had last year. Saul hadn't said too much about his novel to Echo yet--Echo had been too busy trying to write his and do organization stuff lately--but he expected to hear more about it now that it was all going to calm down.He had to admire Saul's binding skills. It wasn't anyone who could get napkins to stick inside a big piece of construction paper. Echo was pretty sure he had no idea where to even start on a project like that--that was why he used a notebook. It might be a spell, but maybe Saul had gotten into the glue and thread... well, no, it was probably a spell. Maybe it was just the sticky spell from Elly's prank last spring. He hoped not, though.
"Did you say there's a button maker?"
"Yeah, there," Echo said directing Saul's attention to the button maker masher thing. He led him toward it, pointing at the different stations. "First you choose a design-- there're blanks if you want to do your own. And then you can color it and stuff... and you cut it out," he stopped at the actual machine. This part had sort of a lot of little pieces to it. "Then you take your circle of paper and one of those plastic circles and the metal part... you stick them in the machine and it smashes everything together kinda like a big... stapler. Cool, huh?" He'd conveniently left the diagrammed instructions next to the machine for people to look at.
So far so good, and even if no one but Saul liked the buttons, at least someone else thought they were cool. Honestly, Echo thought they were the best part of the whole shindig--aside from the people.

Is he deadly? by Irene Liddowe
Irene headed towards the gardens for the Fury! Fest, a composition notebook clutched in her hands. It wasn't a notebook, though. This one was full of a (very framiliar) story. The cover wasn't much. It was basically just a bright marker she had used on the cover of the notebook. It read:by Irene Liddowe
Fifty thousand words, as promised! The entire scenario that went up until Grace turned 17 was played out in the book. From her mother's death at five-years-old, to her neglected childhood, to going to live with her Uncle, to going to a prestigeous boarding school across the country, to her father's stalker-like qualities, to the restraining order, to best friends, to boyfriends, to her father's rejuvianted stalker-ness, to court trials, to graduation, and then she was stuck. The ending had been considerably harder to write. She wasn't sure how to end it. She had eventually decided that Grace wanted to persue a career in teaching, like her mother had. She was happy with how it all turned out.
How cool would it be if she could write her own future? Pretty wicked amazing... Irene liked the whole writing thing a lot. She hadn't really tried it before the Fury!, but now that she had, Irene knew she would be back for next year.
Over by a table, Irene spotted Echo and Saul and made her way to them, her notebook held high above her head in victory stance. Putting the notebook onto the table, Irene proclaimed, "Grace Baker's Reality, completed and... yeah, completed."
Irene caught the end of Echo's sentence and wondered what it meant. You would wonder too if you heard, "...it smashes everything together kinda like a big... stapler. Cool, huh?"
She said, "Are we smashing stuff?"

Wait, the furious noveller isn't a she?*points to Caedence* by Saul
OOC: Yeah, I'd guessed it might be this one since it's where I most recently used center tags. <grins> BIC:Buttons were the greatest thing ever. He always liked the carnivals and festivals that let the staff make their own button name tags. Granted, his drawing skills were only terrible as compared to his abysmal musical skills, but Saul could write his own name and color inside the lines with the best of six years olds. Plus, as if to make up for his lack of other artistic talents, Saul could work the button masher correctly seven out of eight times.
Saul's grin only grew as Irene came over and asked if they were smashing stuff. "Buttons!" he declared cheerfully. "You color them and then you mash them so that the plastic crimps into the metal back and it all stays together as one unique button. C'mon, I'll show you. These things are great."
He bounded over to the button making station, waving for Irene to follow and leaving Echo to either oversee or continue with his meeting and greeting. Pointing out the paper circles, most of them with some kind of text on them, he instructed, "First you take one of those, that's gonna be the design on your button. You color it with those," he pointed at the crayons and markers available, "and when you're done, you assemble the button and press it all together with that thing," he indicated the masher, "I've made them before so if you have any trouble, let me know."\r\n\r\n

Careful, Saul... Beware her Fury! (So many Fury puns...) by Irene
"Buttons!""Whoa, we're smashing buttons?" How cool was that? Irene looked around at the table full of pieces of this and that. It started to make more sense when Saul explained, "You color them and then you mash them so that the plastic crimps into the metal back and it all stays together as one unique button. C'mon, I'll show you. These things are great."

Wow. She had just found the thing that topped the Easy-Bake oven! You could make anything with this stuff! Irene gave Saul a thumbs up at his offer to help to let him know she would.
"Echo, you are genius!" She said, picking up all the required button material. What to draw? What to draw? Something simple. Maybe just a "I'm Furious!" would work... Or a "Chyeah, you better beware my Fury!" Eh... So many to choose from...
"My creative juices are low. I need inspiration!" She said to no one in particular. Whatever it was, it had to be bright and it had to be funny. Those two work very well together.

How novel (we could pun all day). by Elly Eriksson
Done and done. Not quite the 50,000 she had been aiming for, but 41,638 was still a fairly commendable number of words for a novel written in only a month. That was how many words it had taken for Megan and her friend Toby to find the map and the magic carpet, get to Egypt, fight the mummy and discover the treasure, then get home again and live happily ever after. Elly didn’t think it was brilliant, but she’d finished it, and was so proud of herself. Also, she thought that if she did Fury again next year, she could do a sequel with the same characters but in a different country. That would be cool.As Elly headed down to the end-of-Fury celebration-type thing, she saw some novelists already gathered. “Echo, you’re a genius!” she heard Irene cry.
Elly grinned. “Of course he’s a genius,” she said, not needing to questions why. She held up her notebook for them to see. “‘Adventures in Egypt’ by Elly Eriksson,” she laughed. “Forty-one thousand, six hundred and thirty-eight words. Did I do well?” she asked, still grinning.
Then Elly spied the equipment that had already caught Saul and Irene’s attention. “Ooh, badge maker!” She looked at the pre-printed designs and laughed as she saw the one that just said ‘Fury!’ “This one’s for Caedence, right?” She laughed again as she sorted through the designs, trying to decide which to use. She had been creative for a whole month already – there was no way she was going to think of her own slogan, too.

“Of course he’s a genius,” Said a voice from behind Irene. She turned around to see Elly had joined them. Irene grinned at her and turned back to the badges, which Elly noticed not too long after that.“This one’s for Caedence, right?” Elly was holding up a badge with the word "Fury!" on it. Irene laughed and pulled a few of the pre-made badges towards her. She picked one up that said "Beware the Furious Noveller!" That would work. Irene put it together with all of the little bit of button stuff and put it in the Smasher. It all punched together. Irene let out a "Ha!" of triumph and pinned it onto her bookbag.
"How sweet it that?" She said, more to herself than anyone else. She definitely wanted a whole bunch of buttons. Maybe she would steal one of Renaye's words and make on for her... "Fury! up the wahzoo!" Or not. She'd think of something...

The Furious Noveler has arrived! *bows* by Caedence
oveling Fury! was over, sadly, and she had yet to reach 50,000 words once! Last year, she made it to 20,654 words, this year a mere 45,289… okay, only about 5,000 off, but hey, she still messed up and didn’t make it! But, on the plus side, she had gotten Nathelie accepted by the boys, and into karate class. It took her a while to get from her beginning point of being pushed down on the playground, but eventually, she had won a huge fight against the big boss of the neighborhood. It was a pretty good story. But the title was what got her. What to call the book? Not something stupid, like Nathelie’s story or Girl vs. Boy. No, she needed something unique… something that told the story in a few words…Did it ever occur to her that ‘panthress’ wasn’t a word? No. Did it occur to her that the title was kind of cheesy? No. Did it occur to her that putting her middle initial was going to let people find out an extra tidbit of herself? Wait for it… no.
She was running just slightly late getting down to the Noveling Fury! party. Echo, Saul, Irene and Elly were already there. She started to jog to catch up to them, smirking at all the food that Echo had gotten this time. And she thought the neverending plate of cookies was great!!
“This one’s for Caedence, right?” Elly said. Caedence managed to get cloce enough to read Fury on it. Irene had one that seemed more like it to Caedence Beware the Furious Noveler
“Now Elly, do you really think so low of me?” Caedence teased. “Besides, Fury doesn’t begin to describe me in a bad mood. Ask Echo, he partnered with me in DADA,” She laughed at Echo, remembering with pleasure the little spiders just freezing and possibly dieing. It was fun.
“Taa-daa!” She presented her book to everyone then set it on the table. She scowled at it, “I just couldn’t squeeze anymore words after the fight scene was done. I even tried doing an extra chapter about how Nathalie was ruling her streets now and taking care of anyone who even dared to try and fight her….” She sighed giving it a final glare.
“So,” she picked up an extra Fury button template, “How did everyone else do on their books?” she asked coloring in the words red and the button-shape around it black. “And.. Elly can read mine if she wants…” she added reluctantly putting the button into the machine, already knowing how to work these things. Her father had one when he was trying to advertise for his business and she had broken into his office and made a few of her own. She shuddered at the memory; her father wasn’t too happy with her.

Echo beamed as his friends discussed their novels and the buttons--Saul turned out to be an expert at button making and Echo let him take over the demos.This Fury! thing was so much effort, but man, it was so turning out to be worth it. The buttons were a hit; Elly and Irene both thought he was a genius... Elly said it like it was obvious and his ears got a bit hot.
“Forty-one thousand, six hundred and thirty-eight words, she declared, "Did I do well?”
"Well like a... a crazy weirdo well!" he grinned and if it were Brett he would have definitely declared air fives (a high five where you miss on purpose). They turned back to the button masher and Echo looked around for more Fury folks--Caedence, as it turned out, was approaching just as Elly decided the Fury! button was all her.
"Besides, Fury doesn’t begin to describe me in a bad mood. Ask Echo, he partnered with me in DADA,” Caedence told her.
"You didn't see her," Echo agreed, "She was freaking me out, her and her whacked out maniacal laughingness. I was shaking in my boots--minus the boots." He sent her look that said, you really freak me out, but at the same time he was more and more comfortable talking like this around her--telling her how much she freaked him out. They were almost joking about it. Were they joking about it? They were, weren't they? Him and Caedence were having a joke--a joke about how she scares him silly and always has and they both knew it. And, yet, he sort of considered her a friend and felt closer to her now than he ever had. Man, that was just messed up.
And then she was back to nice!Caedence again with a taa-dah! and a novel, but he was still too freaked out by the realization of their weirdo friendship to think she might want to hear about his novel. That question was clearly for Elly.

Furiously thinking of novel puns... by Elly
“Well like a… a crazy weirdo well!” Echo told her, and Elly wasn’t sure whether or not she should be insulted. Had Echo just called her a weirdo? It had sounded more like he was congratulating her, though, so she thanked him and sifted through the button designs.“Now Elly, do you really think so low of me?” Elly jumped a mile (well obviously not a literal mile, but a metaphorical one) when she heard Caedence’s voice.
“Caedence, do not sneak up on people, it’s mean,” she mock scolded her friend and poked her tongue out. Then she couldn’t help laughing as Echo and Caedence asserted quite how scary she’d been in class. Though at the same time it seemed like they were actually getting on. Huh.
Distracted by a call, Elly laughed at Irene’s enthusiasm about her new button badge. “Wicked,” Elly told her, grinning.
“Elly can read mine if she wants,” Caedence said.
“Really?” Elly asked excitedly, turning back. “I’d love to!” This reminded her that nobody had wanted to read Saul’s story last year, even though he’d tried asking. “I’ll read anyone’s who wants me to,” she added loudly so they (Saul in particular) would hear. “And er –” she faltered “you guys can read mine if you want, but it really is truly awful,” she laughed again.
“I only managed to get forty-thousand words,” Elly told Caedence. “And it really does suck.” She picked up a Fury! Participant pre-print and set to work making the letters purple and the background green.
“Hey Echo,” she called from the button-making station, “Next year can we get badges to wear all through the month? It’ll be more like a club, you know?”

So Hyana had only reached 30,000 words. So what? She had only been at Sonora for a year. She was sure that she was going to join Novelling Fury! next year. Even so, she decided to go to the party. It would be fun...right?She arrived late, already seeing Caedence, Echo, Irene and Saul were there. She really didn't mind. She waved at them with a smile on her face, then went over to the punch bowls. She had skipped breaksfast to try and get a few extra words in (about 20 to be exact). It wasn't enough though.
She probably could've gotten further if she didn't talk to Josiah all that time when she was in the library. Too bad. Hyana poured herself some punch and looked at the person who appeared next to her.
"Hey." She greeted them. "How many words did you reach?"

Heading down to the novel writing club to-do in the gardens, Oliver was feeling quite pleased with himself. He’d written over the requisite fifty thousand words, and finished his story about Ethan the dragon slayer. He had actually titled said story ‘Ethan the Dragon Slayer’, because essentially that was what it was about. Sadly the hero wasn’t alive by the end of the novel, but never mind. His finest hours were now recorded in Oliver’s slightly untidy handwriting in two of his notebooks (he had filled one up and moved on to a second).There were already a few people gathered when Oliver arrived. It was that scary Pecari crowd again. Every time Oliver was around them he got the impression that they would realise he was in Crotalus, and suddenly jump him all at once. It was a bit of an unnerving thought, really. Spying a girl that was not in Pecari as far as Oliver could remember, he headed over to her instead, pulling his sunhat down low over his eyes in an attempt not to be noticed by the others.
“Hey,” she greeted him. “How many words did you reach?”
“Just over fifty thousand,” Oliver told her. He readjusted his glasses before helping himself to a drink. “You?” he asked the not-Pecari girl.

Ah! More people have come! by Echo Elms
Echo drifted away from his usual group when he saw new faces to greet. It was awesome that his friends all supported his Noveling undertakings and seemed to have enjoyed themselves at it... it was almost more awesome that people he hadn't really known before had gotten into it too. He'd seen Hyana around a lot since they sat next to each other in Astronomy that day, and Fury! was a part of that. She was fast becoming one of the people he talked to on a regular basis. And Oliver... well he knew his name now and might wave to him in a crowd, and that was a lot more than he knew him before this month.He was glad to hear Oliver and Hyana were already talking about their wordcounts. He didn't even have to bring it up, but grinned at them added them to his list.

"Hey, guys," he greeted them, hoping he wasn't interrupting them too much but feeling like it was necessary because he sort of like the host of all things Fury, "Hyana, Oliver. Welcome, welcome. There's like food and stuff," he said, pointing out the punch table and the cookies and whatnot. Then he pointed to the crowd of Pecaris around another table, "And you can make buttons, too. Crowded over there now, but they're pretty cool and um," And then that awkward moment when he needed to transition back into a normal person and figure out if he was welcome in this conversation. They were the only non-Pecaris there, he noticed suddenly. So... "Do you know everyone? They don't--well, most of them don't bite." He hadn't decided about Caedence yet, as the tough girl had just been reminding him. And Elly was a bit loud and prone to giggling... but once you got past that. And Saul was like performance-man which kind of weirded some people out, but Echo liked that. And... well, anyway. They were a good group and not as cliquey as they looked from here. They did look sort of cliquey from here, didn't they?

I would never dissapoint you Echo! by Hyana
Over fifty thousand words?! Was Oliver serious? Hyana sighed. She could always write again next year. The same idea, and she'd get over fifty thousand words!"I wrote only about thirty thousand words. I didn't do too well." She smiled. She was ready to say something else when she heard a familiar voice.
"Hey, guys," Echo greeted them. "Hi Echo." She said happily. She listened to him as he explained everything, and laughed at the 'they don't bite' joke. Caedence was there. One of them would bite.
"It's true not all of them bite." She commented. "Caedence can get close though." She looked over at the table, trying to recognize everyone. "Yeah, I think I know everyone. I don't really know Saul, but I know who he is." She replied.
Everyone seemed to be having a good time, but the group was a little big. Plus, she didn't want to interrupt them or anything. And anyway, wasn't Hikaru in Fury!? He was missing a chance to speak with Caedence!
"What do you want to do?" She asked Oliver and Echo. She figured Echo would want to hang out with the others anyway. So the question was mostly directed at Oliver.

Irene gave a laugh as Caedence came up from behind Elly. Of course. “Caedence, do not sneak up on people, it’s mean,”Irene grinned as Elly stuck her tongue out. "Wouldn't want to mean, now would we?" Irene said. After Caedence offered for Elly to read her story, Elly replied that she would read anyone's story as well and anyone could real hers. That was a good idea. Irene wasn't sure who would want to read hers and not exactly sure she wanted people to. It wasn't very good after all...
"Same goes for me. Warning: Extreme lame-ness," She said, giving a serious look to the others at the last part. Irene picked up a blank piece of button paper and scribbled the words "Cation: Furious Novelling ahead!" in bold red letter. Sure, it may not be the most creative thing but she'd think of something. Until she did, she might as well just make some more buttons.
"Next year can we get badges to wear all through the month? It’ll be more like a club, you know?”

I might. Don't rely on me. by Oliver
Hyana had written thirty thousand words, which was still impressive, no matter what. He was going to tell her so, when the organiser person, Echo, came over to them. He was an alright sort-of person, as far as Oliver could tell. He had a strange way of talking, much alike Brett in his year, but seemed harmless. He was nicely enthusiastic, too, and had a lot of friends. This did nothing to encourage Oliver to be sociable though; his shyness had been mostly overcome in the initial few weeks at Sonora, but he still frequently found discomfort when talking to those who could be perceived as superior, and Echo was definitely fitting that description.“Do you know everyone?” Echo asked Hyana and Oliver, indicating the group of Pecaris around the button maker.
Hyana seemed to be on first-name terms with the whole lot of them, and Oliver couldn’t help but feel further distanced. The names uttered were useful though – Saul and Caedence were definitely Chasers, and the redhead was the Seeker. Irene, who was in Oliver’s year, was a reserve, he thought, like Oliver himself. In fact… if Oliver was right (and he had no reason to suspect otherwise), Echo was the only person there so far not on a Quidditch team.
“What do you want to do?” Hyana asked then.
“Uh,” Oliver said, nervously adjusting his glasses. He glanced up at Echo and decided not to answer his question about knowing the others – he didn’t feel like being introduced right now. It would practically be like waving bait in front of a pack of Hyenas. “I’m gonna drink this,” he said, raising his cup of punch. “I might make a button later,” he added, shrugging.
