Lets practice Martial Arts!!! by Hikaru Kasuragi

Hikaru walked down into the Labyrinth Gardens with a sense of peace, he was wearing a very loosely fitting Gi (martial arts uniform) and entered the deeply as to not disturb anyone else. He sat on the ground and folded his hands in a meditative position and tokk in a few deep breathes.

After he was satisfied he stood up and went into a street brawler-like stance, he fluidly moved from one position to the next and imagined his opponent standing infront of him dodging blows. He moved back in different ways to avoid the retaliatory blows that his 'opponent' was throwing at him. He slid into a Ninjitsu stance and began moving again but this time as if a whole swarm of people were attacking him.

He moved from one stance to the next smiling as needed as he defeated one opponent after the other. He stopped suddenly and collapsed on the ground, exhausted after al of that movement, he hadn't practice like this in quite a long time.\n\n

I don't know martial arts, but it looks cool. by Brett Hodges

Brett was wandering through Labrynth Gardens when he heard an action movie-like combination of movement and heavy breathing. It took him a few minutes to figure out how to reach the sound through the maze, but it was worth it. There was this crazy ninja kid like in The Crazy Ninja Kid or whatever that ancient 80s flick was called. Brett sat down, crosslegged, and watched.

And then the kid collapsed. He just... collapsed.

Brett listened to the kid's breathing for a few minutes, letting it calm down a little, and said, "Hey, that was mad cool."\n\n

Are you okay?! by Hyana Kamiya

Hyana had decided to take a breather and walk through the gardens. She turned a corner to see two boys, one doing some martial arts, and the other watching. She didn't recognize the boy that was sitting, but the boy practicing...was the boy she met in the library. Hikaru? Yeah, that was his name! She watched from behind a bush. She still felt bad about leaving the library, when he was offering to teach her hexes. She had looked in the rules about hexes and realized that she was wrong. When he was done, she hoped she could apologize. Then suddenly, Hikaru just collapsed.

Hyana walked past the boy who was sitting and bent down next to Hikaru. "Hikaru-san, are you okay?" she asked. Her words were masked behind her Japanese accent. The other boy said something about 'mad cool.' Hyana nodded. "He right you know."\n\n

Wow, people are watching cooly! by Hikaru Kasuragi

Hikaru heard the boy say something about 'mad cool' and smiled to himself, he hadn't ever heard anyone talk about his talent like that. When Hyana came he sprung up like a sprout and nodded "Yeah I'm fine, I just haven't practiced like that since I was back in Japan!" he laughed loudly. He pulled his arms behind his head and left them there "Thanks for the concern Hyana-chan!" he smiled at her sweetly "Could I please teach you some hexes! It would make me feel sooooooooo much better if I could!" He then remembered the boy that had been watching him "Hey, thanks for the compliment! I really apprecitate it!" he smiled at him "My names Hikaru? Whats yours? If you'd like I'll teach you martial arts."\n\n

Hyana blushed slightly, he really wanted to teach her a hex. And his smile was so sweet...she looked away. Her face felt so hot. She really hoped he wouldn't notice. She listened to him talk to the other boy, and finally mustered up the courage to speak.

"I-I know s-some martial arts. I'm a bl-black belt in Tai-Kwon-Do..." She trailed off. She felt like she was bragging...and it was very rude to brag. Hikaru probably didn't even believe her. She looked really weak and frail.

The honest truth, on Monday, Wensday and Friday, she would skip work against her mother's knowledge to go to her Tai-Kwon-Do lessons. Her mother didn't know about them, and that was the reason why she always hit her when Hyana brought home her paycheck. She got her black belt at the age of 10, and now she was 11. She touched her two index fingers together, and let the two boys have their conversation. She was still waiting for her face to turn a normal color.\n\n

Very. by Brett Hodges

Brett had been watching the boy so intently he hadn't noticed the girl and was a little bewildered when she ran up to collapsed guy from out of nowhere. Then crazy ninja collapsed guy popped up to his feet like nothing ever happened. This was like some mad weird dream, except it wasn't because then Brett had to shake his head a little to get the bangs out of his eyes and that was the sort of thing that never happened in dreams.

Brett listened carefully. He was having a little trouble picking up what the girl was saying but he was pretty sure it was English. Being from a small town in Wyoming, Brett wasn't particularly experienced with wading through accents. He looked on like he knew what was going on, and then the boy addressed him. The boy was far better at English and introduced himself as.. uh... Hikaru? Brett resisted asking if he could see that in writing so he could make sure he was understanding how to say it.

"I'm Brett," he introduced himself to Hikaru and the girl. She didn't say her name, but she did say she knew martial arts too. He wasn't surprised. Tiny people in movies always know martial arts. Then ninja-girl made some ninja sign like in Naruto, a ninja novel his friend Zander's girlfriend was reading last year.

"You could really teach me some of that stuff?" The boy seemed to be wanting to teach hexes too. Brett wasn't sure he wanted to know hexes, but he also knew that martial arts was like a life long committment sort of thing and he didn't really want to do that either. "Do you have to learn to, like, meditate and stuff first, or do you just go right to the crazy weirdo kicking stuff?" He was asking Ninja-girl, too, in case she wanted to pipe in, but she seemed shy like whoa. Maybe it was because she knew he didn't understand a word she said except "black belt." She was really pretty anyway.\n\n

I am aren't I? ^_^ by Hikaru Kasuragi

Hikaru nodded when Hyana said that she knew martial arts "Good! We can spar sometime!" he smiled as Brett introduced himself "It's sooooo nice to meet you Brett! I hope that we can be friends!" he was slightly annoyed when he could tell that Brett really didn't get his name but he didn't care! Hikaru began bouncing up and down and then fell into pushups, as he was doing them he silently counted to himself and spoke to Brett in between going up and down "You...don't...have...to...learn...that...stuff...if...you...don't...want...to! But...it...makes...it...easier!" He jumped up from doing crunches and smiled again "I will teach you a mix of martial arts and street brawling if you say that you would be friends with me! This applies to both of you! So what do you say?" he said with a fiery eyed grin.\n\n

Hyana laughed lightly. Hikaru certainly liked to push himself. She turned towards...Brett! That was his name. She bowed deeply and said as clearly as she could, "My name is Hyana Kamiya. It is very nice to meet you." She listened to Hikaru's suggestion. It was very interesting, learning how to fight for a friendship.

"I would really like to be both of your friends..." She said shyly. She pushed her hair back and her hand ran over her ice blue hair clips. She had one on each side of her head. She thought of her sister, and knew that she would want Hyana to take this opportunity. She nodded slowly. "I would like to learn some different types of martial arts...and m-maybe a h-hex..." She trailed off, looking at the ground again.\n\n

*grin* by Brett Hodges

Whoa, what a crazy weirdo, Brett thought as Hikaru dropped into pushups. He would have said he was like, ADHD, or something, except that he knew kids who were ADHD and they weren't this... uh, well, whatever Hikaru was.

Not that being a crazy weirdo was necessarily a bad thing. Brett's best friend here, Echo Elms, was a weirdo too. And that girl Brett had worked with in CoMCs -- Izzy -- Izzy had looked at Brett the way Brett was looking at Hikaru. She was all like, Huh? I don't understand your mad crazy weirdness, and Brett was like, Whoa, behold my coolness, and she was like, You just a punk kid, and he was like, True that, and she was like, For real real.

Or something. But she had looked at him funny.

Brett glanced at Ninja-girl to see if she had any commentary about how crazy it was that this kid was doing pushups like it was his job and talking to them about exchanging knowledge for friendship. She seemed like, Whoa, yeah, that is crazy nutso, too and Brett smiled at her.

What she actually said outloud was, "My name is Hyana Kamiya, and then she bowed. She bowed. Bowed. Like in movies. Brett had absolutely no idea if she had a really long name or if there was a first and last name in that string of H-yanna-kimmy-ya. Or if he was even saying it right in his mind. She went on to say something that contained the words would, and friend and seemed to be positive, finishing with a string of words that ended with hex and probably contained martial arts but he really couldn't be sure.

She was amazing. There was a word for her and he couldn't think it right now, but it was perfect. It had too syllables and started with a d.

Brett stood up and clumsily imitated her bow, first to Ninja-girl, "I accept your friendship, Hya-na-kimmy-ya," and then to Hirkaru, "and yours, He-car-roo." That was sort of a weird thing too, but it seemed to fit the tone of everything else in the Gardens today.

If nothing else, maybe after awhile he'd at least learn how to say their names.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Hikaru was so happy that they were both his friends now, he was about ready to jump up and down but, he restrained himself from doing so. He listened to what Brett said and responded "Good, we can start training in a little while, I want to spar with Hyana first then we can on a few basic techniques!"

He turned and faced Hyana "I hope you're ready, if you want to you can go and get in a uniform and we can spar." He tilted his head a little and said with a little authority "We can work on hexes tommorow in the Library with Riley...right now, we can work on martial arts!"\n\n

Hyana looked at Brett, who was acting like he couldn't understand a word she said. She didn't have that thick of an accent! Hyana heard Hikaru say something to her, but she wasn't paying attention. She remembered the fight Hikaru and Caedence had the other day, and hoped that Caedence wouldn't show up. Hyana realized that Hikaru was waiting for her answer, and turned her gaze to him.

"O-okay..." She stuttered. She stood up and went into a defensive stance. She wanted Hikaru to make the first move. She was a little angry at him for what he had said to Caedence, and wanted to prove that she could take care of herself. Plus, she would have to hurt Hikaru. If she didn't, Caedence would, and she wasn't sure Hikaru would live after that. She knew both Brett and Hikaru wanted her to start, but she just waited. And waited.\n\n

Hikaru nodded as Hyana said "O-okay..." he took in a deep breathe and went into a street brawler pose. He smiled as he couldn't remember his last encounter with a human being. He watched as she stood there waiting and realized that she wanted to see what he could do. 'I'll take it easy on her first and then pump it up a little!'

He looked around for advantages to the terrain and not being able to find one charged at Hyana. He threw a punch at her lower abdoman, hard. He waited for her response.\n\n

Hyana watched him come at her with a punch to the stomach. She dodged swiftly and grabbed his wrist. She swept her foot around and pulled his leg out from under him. She let go of his wrist and bent down to his level. She had a concerned smile, mixed with amusement.

"You have a really poor form Hikaru-kun. How do you expect to defeat Caedence-sempai like that? She'd take you down in a minute flat!" She laughed. It wasn't that she was being mean, but she never had to give advice to anyone before. She always kept to herself. She let people mess up and learn from their mistakes. But she liked Hikaru, and wanted to help him in his fight with Caedence. She just hoped the angry girl wouldn't find out. Turning to Brett, she smiled.

"Brett-kun, the key is to get your opponent off balance. When they are off balance, you can hit vital points and send them to the ground where they are at your mercy. Do you understand?" She looked at Hikaru. "Both of you?" She held out her hand to help him up.\n\n

I'm with Brett on this one, COOL! by Josaih

Josiah had been taking a nice walk in the gardens with his raven. Mo was perched on the special leather glove that was made to accomodate his sharp tallons. "Hey Mo, do you miss Racheel?" Josiah asked his raven. Mo cocked his head to one side, trying to make sense of the words. "Yeah, I'm sure it's tough being away, I hear you buddy. But I'll have my letter for mother and father ready soon. Just let me know if Racheel is okay, won't you?" he said with a smirk. The raven cawed at him as if understanding. Josaih laughed.

Something off in the distance caught his attention. Like the sounds of shuffling feet. Heavy breathing. What was going on? "Fly-by," he said calmly to Mortemer. His raven spread its wings and took off. Josaih had trained Mo to fly over an area and report back to him. If what he found was human, Mo would lift a foot. If it was animal, he would caw once. If it was something else, he would caw twice.

Mo returned to him and landed softly on Josaih's outstretched hand. One foot. Humans. Josaih grinned and walked towards the sound. By the time he got there, there were three people, two of which seemed to be fighting. Two he recognized; Hikaru and Hyana. One he didn't. Walking up he called, "Hikaru! Hyana! What is going on?" When he drew level with the unfamilair boy he said, "Hi, I'm Josaih Ashwood of the noble Ashwood bloodline. Might I ask your name?" Mortemer cocked his head to one side, examining the three new people.\n\n

Hikaru bliked a few times as Hyana simply took him down with no effort what so ever. He flushed looking extremely embarressed "Umm....yeah, maybe I shouldn't go easy on anyone from now on."

He was slightly annoyed when she said what she did but he got over it "You're completely right on this Hyana-chan! I must work harder!" his eyes blazed with passion.

He realized what he was doing and stopped instantly, "Sorry about that!" He laughed embaressedly and put an arm behind his head.

Hikaru took her hand and bowed to her "I really appreciate sparring with you! It was an awesome experience! You're really right about my form though! I'll have to use Ninjitsu instead of street brawling if I'm going to win against Cadence!" his eyes once again blazed passionatly.\n\n

Hikaru turned to see the new boy arrive, he thought he new what his name was and blushed furiously knowing it was his roomate "Oh...Hey Josaih! We were just sparring! I asked Hyana if she would and she excepted, um...you won't tell anyone will you? If I get in trouble again I am soooooo skrewed!" he said blushing.

He went over to his bag and pulled out Leon "Hey little guy!" he whispered excitedly "How are ya?" Leon purred violently and jumped onto Hikarus head.

Hikaru laughed and took him off, he slowly began stroking Leons head and scratching behind the place his ears were supposed to be.

He told Hyana with a smile "I am sooooo happy! My godfather sent me a letter this morning and said that he's sending a kitsune for me! I can't wait! hahaha!" he laughed again, it had been so long since he had held a fox he couldn't even remember! Hyana turned around when she heard Josiah's voice. Her face turned bright red, and she laughed uncomfortably. "J-josiah-kun! Hehehe...how are you? Hehehe..." She mentally slapped herself. Baka! Baka baka baka! Be normal! Normal! She heard Hikaru speak again. It was about his godfather getting him a kitsune.

"A kitsune? Wow Hikaru-kun! What will you name it?" She exlaimed. Kitsunes were very hard to come by. She pushed her black hair out of her face. She looked at Josiah's raven. "What's your raven's name Josiah-kun?" She asked, recovering. She didn't stutter! Hooray for her!

Nice to meet you! by Brett Hodges

Brett had cleared off a few yards to make sure he was definitely out of the way while Hyana and Hikaru were sparring. It was scary how fast Hyana took him down. Hikaru claimed to be taking it easy on her, which Brett didn't buy for two seconds. Everyone knew that "taking it easy" was just what people said when they were too proud to admit defeat, especially when the other person was someone they didn't respect. Brett frowned uneasily, hoping Hyana wouldn't take offense. He sure would have.

Hyana didn't seem to notice the slight, or if she did, she ignored it, just like he ignored whatever they were talking about that involved Caedence. Whatever it was was none of his business. It wasn't like he'd met her, even if Echo's girl, Elly, was friends with her. Anyway, Echo didn't seem to like the pointy haired pygmalion (Brett had no idea who or what a pygmalion was, but it sure sounded good, like scary).

That was about when the other kid showed up. Well, technically he showed up before, but Brett hadn't really looked at him before that. He had a big black bird and the sparring ninja kids seemed to know him already. He introduced himself to Brett as Josaih Ashwood of the noble Ashwood bloodline. Might I ask your name? Man, again with the using the last names and making it out like it was important. That was it. He was tired of it. He wasn't going to say his surname anymore.

"Hey, I'm Brett," he returned with a slight nod of his head in a tone that was trying really hard to be blithely oblivious to the fact that he was probably breaking social rules by not saying something like Nice to meet you Josiah, I am Brett Hodges, grandson of Thomas Hodges, whom I know nothing about other than that he liked fishing with my father, who is a squib. It succeeded, he thought, in at least not being superior or annoyed or anything too awful in a first impression.\r\n

\r\nGah. Come on, Josiah, what movie you think you're from? For real real.\r\n\r\nIn his experience, people were never as bad as their first impressions made them out to be. Be friendly. When you go back to the Commons you can rant and rave to Echo if you still want, but for now be nice.

Hyana took the conversation, and Brett could feel himself getting over it. It was just a second. He was good now. He was cool. Josiah was cool. Everyone was cool.

Hikaru noticed how Hyana stuttered Hm...she knows him I guess. He sighed to himself "Man, I already have a detention from McKindy, this is such a drag..." he sat down on the ground and groaned outloud "I forgot to leave Leon with Professor Kijeski! Josaih blinked a few times. This Brett kid seemed..put off by his manners? Eh, Josiah didn't know, nor did he really care. It was just an excuse to drop his manners, and he enjoyed any such excuses. "You know, I really do hate formal introductions. Mother would just skin me alive if I wasn't polite. Don't be put off, man. I really do hate the posh life." He grinned widely as he assured Brett. Honestly, it didn't do him good to not have a wide circle of friends and a wide circle of enimies. Friends are good, enemies bad.

He turned to Hyana who had asked about his raven. "My raven? Mortemer, or Mo for short. Want me to show you his trick?" He asked with a small grin. He kind of ignored his room mate. That was his one problem, females sucked up his attention. But this one was special. He had decided that she was his baby sister now. Just like Elly was. He grinned.\n\n

Hyana listened to Brett and Josiah. Brett didn't seem to like Josiah that much. She sat down and stared up at Josiah. He seemed to pay more attention to her than he did to the others. "Sure I'd like to see his trick...but only if the others want to." She replied. She didn't like being in the way for others and thought that Josiah should make new friends. She was doing her best to do that. She had met Josiah, Hikaru, Ebony, Mika, Brett, she even considered Caedence a friend...or maybe more of a violent sister. She looked away from Josiah to the two others, wondering what they would say.\n\n
