Where Am I? by Eduard Grimaud

The sky was clouding over with clouds as Grim entered the Gardens. The hedges kept high by the groundskeeper showed a touch of frostbite from the cold. Despite being in a desert, the temperatures could drop below zero when the sun set. Around Christmas time, the Academy glowed warm with fires and candles. Students rushed around spreading holiday cheer.

Grim stumbled as he tried to walk towards a group of students. For some reason, he could not remember what he had been doing for the past six months. He vaguely remembered his home in France, his parents looking after their appointments, but the school was a blur. His face was sallow, eyes worn from tiredness. His ragged hair blew in a slight wind, wilder than usual. He looked around and panicked.

'Where am I?' he asked to the air.

This place seemed so familiar, yet he was exploring it for the first time. He felt the need to get himself to a doctor, very quickly. Something was wrong, very wrong.

This can't be good by Professor Connell

While some of the staff and students disliked the cold weather that meant the school was approaching the end of the first semester, it was Marian Connell’s favorite of the varying weathers that bombarded the school. Having grown up in New York, she was used to and even comfortable with the cold, regarding it as a break from the hot and dry weather that came with the start of term.

The cold was also welcome because it meant a vacation was on its way, something many needed by the time it rolled around. Every year, it was the same. Almost four months of classes, assignments, and testing, culminating in the great and terrible thing known as mid-terms, there were always some students that just couldn’t take the pressure.

It had seemed to be a waste to not take advantage of the good weather, so Marian had decided to take a walk around the labyrinth gardens. While there, she noticed who she assumed was just one of those who had burned out wandering the maze as well. While Eduard Grimaud looked a bit worse of than the majority of that category, and was much younger than the usual 5th or 7th years that tended to show that symptom the most clearly, at first glance that appeared to be all that was wrong with him. Just tiredness.

Then she paused. Something didn’t feel quite right about the situation. Her intuition proved to be correct a few moments later, when he stumbled, and then looked around and appeared to panic. Maybe she was overreacting, but the situation just didn’t look good. When everything was alright, normal people didn’t start asking where they were when they were at a place they spent most of the year.

“Mr. Grimaud,” she called out, making her way past a group of students to the lone boy. “Are you all right? Do you want to go see the medic?” Without waiting for a response, she put a hand on his back and gently began to guide him towards the building once more, towards the hospital wing. At the very least, he needed rest for the exhaustion his face seemed to be reflecting, even if there was nothing more seriously wrong with him.

OOC: Is there a reason that the weather is so cold with the term so close to the start of term, since that would mean it was still autumn? Also, even if you are using fuzzy time, and it is near Christmas, remember the school is in Arizona, and while some deserts may drop below the freezing point, temperatures here generally remain above it, even during the winter. Also, you may respond either here or in the hospital wing, whichever you feel more comfortable with.
