A chase before the feast by Headmistress Lucinda Marnett

She couldn't let anyone see that parchment, no matter how silly she must have looked inching her way around the mansion, her back bent low so she could see the ground better. The summoning charm, even after a couple more attempts, had still produced very little results. She had been able to summon two pieces of paper; one was the letter she had been writing just a minute ago. Neither of which was what she really needed. Oh, how she wished she had destroyed it when she had the mind to do so. It would have only taken a moment, a quick incendio charm and no one would have had to find out. No one. But now, it was floating around the Sonora grounds. Or, worst case scenario, already in the hands of someone....someone that shouldn't have it....someone that would ruin her.

A faint gust of wind flew by, only reminding her that it could be traveling now, even to the reaches of outside Sonora. Lucinda leaned against the stucco wall of the mansion to rest for a moment, the race to find her papers had depleted a great deal of her daily energy. The wall felt much cleaner than usual, cleaner than she could remember it ever being. But there was not much time to stand around and dote on this. It was almost time for the feast and she'd soon have to give up this search, and face a crowd of kids as though there was nothing wrong.

You drag me away from my program for this?!!! by Deputy Headmaster Manfred Bulla

After running from one end of the area in which he had set up, to the other (his shoes getting quite muddy in the process, which, while annoying was also quite gratifying) without catching sight of the Headmistress, Manfred had been forced to stop, catch his breath and try to work out where she was. Obviously... hopefully, she hadn't come across this. But where then had she rushed off to?

Still moving quickly, but no longer running, he made his way back to the door - bypassing a workcrew of prairie elves doing something around some of the statues and cleaning his shoes when he made it to dry grass - and looked around, hoping to spot a clue as to where she had gone. The light of the early evening was starting to fade, making the task harder than it necessarily might have been, and after a few minutes he gave it up as a lost cause.

Deciding that he was just wasting time, Manfred stared out over the gardens, scratching the side of his neck. He shook his head sharply once, then started moving along beside the main building - he needed to start his search somewhere, and it was as good a choice as any. And... looked... like... yes - there she was. She was leaning against the building, and somehow, he wasn't sure why, this worried him more.

"Lucinda!" Manfred called, hurrying over. "What, by Merlin, is going on? The students are arriving, and Tony was wandering the corridors!"\n\n

There will be reruns... by Lucinda Marnett

Jittery as she was already, the familiar sound of the Deputy Head's voice was all Lucinda needed to push her over the edge. He was the last person she wanted to find out about what she was doing in the gardens. What if he found the letter? What would she do then? Lucinda rebounded off the wall in a swift movement reminiscent of her youth and quickly attempted to stuff the two pieces of parchment she had recovered into the inside robe pocket. She succeeded in this, but only after crunching the papers into wrinkled masses that would fit in the small space she had to hide them for the time being. Perhaps concealing them in such haste was more suspicious than if she were to simply keep them in hand, but her first instinct was to hide the evidence....something she regretted a little now.

Lucinda tried to recover some of her composure, and forced her usual "everything's just the way it should be" smile. "I was only...." she paused for a moment, trying to prepare a valid explanation, "enjoying this wonderful weather we're having before the feast, my dear Manfred. And..." Her eyes darted around the general area, looking for something else she could possibly add to this; Manfred wasn't one to be fooled. Then she spotted a bucket adjacent to a statue nearby. "And seeing how the Prairie Elves cleaning is coming along."

"And what brings you out here?" The comment regarding Tony had not entirely sunk in at Manfred's mention. She didn't connect her faithful plant guard's wandering around the mansion, with Manfred's sudden appearance. And because of this, it puzzled her why he would be around the paths himself. As he said, the students were arriving, they were both going to be very busy very soon.\n\n

...when I'm busy teaching a class!! by Manfred Bulla

Manfred, sharp eyes missing nothing of the headmistress' attempts to hide the scrapped up parchment, gestured impatiently at the wall, his relief that she was showing no knowledgeof his surprise twisted at Lucinda's obvious attempts to evade answering his question and found an outlet in frustration. "Quite obviously, Headmistress, it is going well. The school is already starting to look quite clean."

He restrained himself from speaking again for a moment. His voice had held hints of accusation despite the formal address he had offered her this time. Then, supressing a sigh he continued. Maybe it hadn't been intended... maybe she was having 'one of those days.'

"I'm here because of Tony, Lucinda. He sought me out after you apparently bolted from your office, through the school, and out here. He was worried. Worried that there was something wrong - you know he doesn't lightly leave his post in the hall outside your office. What's going on?" he asked again.

A wind gust ruffled his hair, and something whitish flew by, carried along by the wind, but he paid it no more mind than a slight thought of irritation that the elves hadn't completed cleaning up the litter on the grounds.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Might as well wrap up this thread by Lucinda Marnett

She barely opened her mouth to answer Manfred's question, though unprepared as she was, when one of her lost parchments made an appearance. Her focus shifted immediately from the deputy head to the paper and almost as immediately she pushed past Manfred to follow it. Perhaps shoving him out of the way was a bit too much, but what if that was the parchment? He could take a slight nudge from an old witch, her reputation was at stake after all. And a Crotalus at heart, Lucinda cared about this even more than the other consequences of such information should spread throughout the school or, Merlin forbid, the western community.

The headmistress snuck up to her target, now hanging on to the side of a hedge while the wind worked to release it. There really was no need for this caution as her wand could certainly catch the letter before it even had a chance to fly off again, but after the episode in her office, she wasn't taking any chances.

"Accio parchment," she loudly called, remembering too late that Manfred was behind her. It responded on command, moving against the breeze and finally meeting her hand. Lucinda breathed out in a precipitant sigh of relief while turning the paper over so that it could be read properly. And then her breath stopped, or rather, she was holding it. In the name of the great founding wizards, she had found it.\n\n

Trying to divert attention? by Manfred

Manfred brought a hand up to massage his temples as he turned to watch the Headmistress move quickly after the scrap he had noticed. Just what the school didn't need on the first day of a new year was the Headmistress to be having one of her funny (or to be perfectly honest, entirely not in the least bit funny) turns. Sincerely he wished that there was some kind of medication that would help. Even a little.

But, he thought as his hand dropped back down and he took note of her interest in the litter that had flittered past just moments before, why was she so interested in a scrap of parchment? She hadn't to his knowledge gone trapaising around the grounds cleaning up like a Prairie Elf before this. Usually she appeared to understand the way things were, and that an elf's work was only to be given to humans when it was as detention.

A frown grew on his face as he turned and moved after her, arriving at her shoulder seconds after she had accio'd the scrap into her grip.

"Wha-" he started to ask, but then he caught sight of the first few words...\n\n

No...what would make you think that? *smiles innocently* by Lucinda Marnett

Headmistress Lucinda Marnett,

It has come to our attention that S.A. is in a grievous state of disaster. If the situation does not improve, we will be forced to close down the facilities immediately. Following this...

Oh Merlin, Manfred was looking over her shoulder! Lucinda hugged the parchment to her chest not in a gesture of affection by any means, but to conceal as much of the news as she could. Though he might have very well read the letter thoroughly by this time. Was the cat out of the bag? Did he knew about the meeting last...no, there was absolutely no way he could have known. She had covered her steps, convinced others to keep quiet and they were loyal witches and wizards.

With her head down in shame, her mind roaming through the different scenarios of what her responsible, honest deputy head might have to say, Lucinda slowly turned around to face the wizard. But this wouldn't do, if she looked guilty he would think she was guilty, and in fact was hiding something. And of course it wasn't her fault...she wasn't guilty, no matter what anyone said. Squaring her shoulders, Lucinda tilted her head back to look him straight in the eye. She wanted to seem confidant, sure of herself, though, like always, her face held the expression of someone that was lost a long time ago, and really did not understand all that was going on.

"You didn't see anything...isn't that right?" she asked in a surprisingly threatening manner for someone that appeared to be a sweet old lady of seventy-five.\n\n
