Jamie hadn’t been sure he’d go to the Quidditch final, seeing as he wasn’t in it, but here he was anyway. He liked to think that he and Clark were going to go down as one of the greatest Seeking rivalries in Sonora history, and in his own head, his shock defeat of Clark, allowing Pecari to wrestle the trophy from Aladren’s iron grip, was enough of a balance to Clark’s long winning streak to warrant equal fame and attention. After all, the only thing more intimidating than an undefeated Seeker was the guy who beat him, right?
The theory was marred a little by the fact that he was currently seated in the stands, whilst Clark was on his broom, soaring high above them. For that reason, along with just a general principle of rooting against the nerd squad which was Aladren in general but epitomised by Clark and John, he was supporting Crotalus. Not in any obvious badge wearing, banner waving way, just quietly in his own head, or with the occasional cheer if they scored or blocked a goal. It was made all the easier by the fact that Shino had dropped out (intimidated by his prowess, he had decided). Even he couldn’t be the one to do it, he’d prefer to see Clark go out on a bum note.

It was the final game of the season and Gia was rather surprised to see Crotalus in the game versus Aladren. It had been quite the upset for her house to lose to them, so she wondered how many Pecaris would be rooting for Aladren just to spite the Crotalus. Or, would the rivalry between the two houses be too deep for that? She wouldn’t really be surprised. Gia’s brother was an Aladren, so she felt no hate towards them or any house for that matter.
Of the two Captains, however, Gia liked Clark better. She didn’t know Alistair, but he always seemed less accepting than the Aladren and she knew Clark from Book club so he was less of a mystery to her personality-wise. She felt that people misunderstood Aladrens the majority of the time and really it was the Crotalus that had the attitude. That’s what she gathered from spending time in class with them anyway. There were obvious exceptions, like Laila and she was beginning to think that Caelia had more to her as well based on her brother’s interaction with her. Gia kept her opinions to herself though and still remained politely indifferent to them whenever she was around them.
Since Laila’s house was in the Championship, Gia opted for the color blue but would change it to red if Laila decided that she did not want to support her own house. She wished that the weather would have cooperated at least once so that she didn’t have to wear the extra clothing underneath the uniforms or place warming charms on herself, but she was not that lucky. Today’s weather was terrible and wind was biting. It would be a long game of having to deal with that. Hopefully the snitch would be caught quickly and she could hurry inside before catching anything or anyone else on the Squad from catching anything.
Tapping her uniform and using the spell, she watched the white turn blue and felt satisfied. Another tab and a spell and she felt the heating charms begin to warm her. She turned to the younger members of the group. By now, the majority probably already knew how to cast both the color charm and the heating charm, but she didn’t want to make any assumptions and someone was then left out and possibly not comfortable with asking for help. “Once everyone has decided on a color, please let me or Laila know if you need any help with changing your uniform. If you have forgotten your warm clothes to wear under the uniforms, please take the time now to run back to your common rooms to obtain them, otherwise, everyone who has not done the heating charm, please do so now as it’s a bit nippy.” Gia advised them. “Anyone who requires assistance, please come to me and I’ll be happy to help.”
Since it was Laila’s club, she felt her friend would make a better speech regarding this being their final game, so she only discussed the actual charms and nothing more. Besides, Gia didn’t think she would do well with motivating anyone, but Laila seemed to have a knack for it. She was definitely the right sort of person to run the Spirit Club.

Laila greeted Gia that morning with a wide smile, her bouncy brown hair in a high ponytail tied up with a Crotalus red ribbon, her face paints sitting on top of her bag which she had dropped on the bench where she had told the other Spirit Club members they could leave any sweaters or water bottles they didn’t want to have on them while cheering the teams on. At previous games, Laila had left the face paints out for anyone who wanted to use them to draw things on their faces and the help-yourself rule still applied. Laila herself had made two thick red lines under each of her eyes.
“What do you think about getting some glitter to add to the face paints next year?” she asked Gia as she stretched. “I think it would look really cool to put some glitter on.” Laila had seen cheerleaders at home in their glitter and face paint and skirts and pom poms and she was kind of jealous that she would never be one of them. As she continued to stretch, she cast a look around the field at the two teams who were assembled together and the other students who had come to watch the first match in what seemed like forever that wasn’t Pecari versus Aladren. She felt a little bad for Sammy since she had wanted her friend to go far but…Laila was still a Crotalus and so she was really proud of her house team for making it to the finals.
“Just one second,” she said to Gia, taking a sip of her water and putting it back on the bench before heading up to the stands. “I’ll be back before the game starts, I saw someone I wanted to talk to.”
Jamie Park was not someone who Laila frequently interacted with and his status as a seventh year while she was only a fourth year meant that they had never even had any classes together. In fact, the only three things that Laila knew about him were that he used to hang out with the old Crotalus Seeker, Shino, who was kind of friends with the older Reinhardts, he was known to be a bit rude and mischievous, and he was destroying her friend’s innocence. “Hey,” she said when she reached the Pecari. Luckily Sammy wasn’t there yet—Laila never would have approached Jamie Park if Sammy was there. She didn’t know how her friend would take to Laila’s attempt to protect her purity, but she still felt it was her duty to say something. She loved Sammy and she didn’t want someone like Jamie hurting her.
“Can we chat?” She tilted her head, her perfectly curled hair swinging a bit as it fell over her shoulder. In her cheerleading costume with her titled head and right hand on her hip, one knee bent as her right leg stood one step in front of her left one, Laila embodied the picture of a stereotypical cheerleader. If she could have seen herself in that moment she would have been delighted to see the picture, finally looking like she belonged. As it was, she didn’t even wait for Jamie to respond. “What exactly are your intentions with Sammy? She’s my friend and if you’re just going to be a first class jerk then I disapprove because Sammy has integrity and if you’re going to…manhandle that then I think you need to reevaluate your morals.”
Kissing like that in the middle of the common room for the whole school to see and whisper about? It was hot to be sure, and definitely something that would happen in one of Laila’s books, but it was also something that she thought should stay in her books. And certainly she did not approve of some horrible seventh year with no friends man-handling one of her best friends for the whole school to see. She knew Sammy wasn’t ladylike and she liked her because of that but it was simply distasteful to go at it the way the rumor hill said they’d been kissing for the whole world to see and since Sammy was her friend, she knew it had to be all Jamie’s fault.
Boys were absolutely uncouth. She couldn’t believe she had ever liked boys before. Now that she had a real man to like.

Farrah was really enjoying being a part of the Spirit Club. She enjoyed all the clubs that she was in, of course, some more than others (*cough*Science Club*cough*), but considering all the apprehension she had when she first thought about joining the Spirit Club out of fear that she would be laughed out of the room, Farrah felt that she had come a long way. Everyone had been kind to her thus far and Farrah didn’t feel like a complete freak in a group full of pretty people. She knew that there had been a moment between herself and Georgia when her friend had found out she had joined and she hadn’t blamed her friend for having reservations (the same in which Farrah had) but hopefully her friend could see that it wasn’t like it was back home.
She donned the uniform that was handmade (Farrah had taken it home with her during Christmas to show her mother the outfit and her mother was definitely impressed) specifically for her along with her fleece white leggings and white turtle neck. She had learned how to do the heating charm from her first year in Science Club from John. He was peculiar, but nice, so she enjoyed working with him. She learned the color charm in class but the Spirit Club had been great practice for her to continue using it.
When she went to change the color, she hesitated for a moment. The obvious choice was for her to pick blue because she was an Aladren and, well, Clark, but she also now had friends on the Crotalus team. Arne was making out to be a great partner on the Fair project whenever they worked on the Mythical creatures part that the Maori had legends on. He was quite knowledgeable in the subject, so Farrah felt like she was learning quite a bit. Plus, he was funny, so he made the work feel less like work.
Ultimately, Farrah went with blue because people would probably ask her questions as to why she was wearing red if she didn’t have to and she wasn’t really sure if she could answer ‘because Arne’s fun and I want to show him support’ because then she felt like she was betraying Clark and he was in her life first and maybe even betray John if he cared for that sort of thing. But she would tell Arne later that he played fantastically (even if he hadn’t) because she didn’t want him to think she didn’t care.
Farrah took her place amongst the club members and waited for the game to start. As she waited, she turned to look up at the crowd to see if she could find Kellen and Georgia, assuming they had come to watch the game with the rest of the school. She couldn’t find them though and so, she returned her attention to the group on the field until the game began.

Spirit club… It had held so much promise when he’d first heard about it. The prospect of girls in short skirts jumping enthusiastically up and down. Unfortunately, the reality was a bit of a let down, as most of them were pre-pubescent children who looked ridiculous in their outfits. As he settled down to watch the match, one such child abandoned her warm up to come and have a word. Laila stood in front of him now, hand on hip. He guessed she had the potential to be hot, but there was a lower age limit in terms of girls Jamie would eye up. And from her current stance, given that he’d done nothing he directly knew of to her, he guessed she was far too high maintenance.
”Can we chat?”
Jamie shrugged nonchalantly, doubting that Laila was going to give him much of a say in the matter. And sure enough, she was off, with a pretty little monologue about Sammy and friendship and her needing to know what his intentions were. He tried not to laugh directly in her face because he doubted that would go over well with Sammy, but he didn’t completely suppress his amusement at the situation.
“I see,” he said evenly, regaining a straight face, “And Sammy asked you to find out, did she? Shy little wallflower that she is, she’s desperate to know but too afraid to ask me herself?” he challenged.
This. This was exactly why Laila worried that Sammy didn’t know what she was getting herself into. Jamie Park was everything Laila disliked about boys and Laila didn’t dislike many things about boys. He was overconfident and arrogant and thought too highly of himself. He didn’t seem to care much about the people he was close to and that number was two. When was the last time Laila had seen Jamie and Shino hanging out? Had Jamie needled his small two down to a one? Had he used Shino like he was probably using Sammy?
Laila felt incensed, especially because he was currently talking down to her. “You know as well as I do that Sammy can take care of herself,” Laila snapped. “But as her friend it’s my job to worry about her well-being when I think something dreadful is coming that she hasn’t foreseen. And you are…” she paused as she searched for the right term. “Definitely unforeseen. If you’re planning on being perfectly pleasant than I have no qualms but if you plan on just using her, I know people.”
Jamie was rather scrawny in comparison to some of her sports-playing cousins back home who were Muggles to boot and so for Jamie to fight back with his only know-how, magic, he would be breaking likely hundreds of wizarding laws. “Anyway, I have to get back to the field and Sammy’s probably going to be here soon so, you know, it was nice chatting with you.” She gave Jamie a peppy little smile and hopped off the stands to join the other Spirit Club students. If Jamie called something after her, she either didn’t hear it or was choosing to be the bigger person and ignore it. She wasn’t about to let the seventh year Pecari ruin her day.
