The two Canterbury girls were looking forward to going to this match together for the first time. Wendy had never been interested in going before, but she had a little more of an interest in the game now that she knew a few of her friends were playing. Waverly always looked forward to these matches. She had played Quidditch during her third year and it had been a fun experience, though not a lasting one. She preferred watching the game much more.
As usual, Waverly had laced up her brown Chucks with the words, "Pecari" on the top of the left shoe and "Boars" on the other. The lucky shoes she had purchased her first year had been worn through, not to mention her feet had grown since she was eleven. The pair she was wearing now was almost two years old, but Converse could be depended on to stay in relatively good condition for a long time. Waverly loved dressing up for these matches decked out in her house colors and today was no exception. She had her brown hair tied up with a gold ribbon, a yellow shirt, and a chocolate brown rain jacket with jeans. Wendy was not exactly in the same spirit, but she had been convinced to wear her brown and white polka-dotted dress with yellow tights.
One look outside told both girls that it was not going to be a pleasant match to sit through, but Wendy followed her older sister dutifully anyway with her blonde hair tucked into her hat and a yellow umbrella over her head.
Waverly was intensely excited for this final game. Quidditch games were always exciting, but it was best when it was the final competition for the Quidditch Cup. She knew most everyone on the team now, having met them through the Quidditch team her third year and through various other ways. It was a small enough school and they all lived in the same area. Waverly had to support her teammates by being at these things even if she had tons to prepare for Baking Club and her concert at the end of this term. Liliana would be nervous, she suspected, but she would make sure to cheer her on even though she probably wouldn't be able to hear her. Waverly rushed up the stairs, running out of breath slightly from her lack of exercise.
"Hurry up, it's just getting started," Waverly called ahead and Wendy groaned and marched on up the stairs, hearing Professor Olivers begin her little spiel. Waverly found a place for them both to sit near the front and thankfully there was a tarp pulled over the stands for this game so they didn't have to stand watching in the rain. Wendy sat down and adjusted her rain boots and Waverly went to the edge of the stands and looked down. "Professor Olivers is talking to the captains," she told her excitedly, "and now the captains are shaking hands. She's going to blow the whistle now!" And she did.
The game started and Waverly began shouting. "Go Pecari! Go Jade! Find that Snitch!" Wendy could imagine Waverly would make a great cheerleader like in those high school movies that they watched whenever they went home. Wendy joined her sister at the stand's edge and looked for any of her friends on the team. She spotted Jade right away, and then saw Rupert with her. She knew he was a Beater, but she didn't know if he was supposed to protect anyone in particular. Her eyes roamed over the rest of the pitch as her older sister gasped and cheered at all the appropriate times. Wendy put her chin in one hand and waited to see if anything interesting would happen, something really unexpected like an earthquake or a crazy lightening storm that would cancel the game.
