A totally normal letter (Killian) by Elliot Fuller

It wasn't unusual for letters in Elliot's handwriting to make their way to Killian's desk. The bold print was instantly distinguishable from Jean's swirling cursive even at a glance, and even if it was Choux who delivered the letter.

Sometimes, Elliot wrote for his own sake - his interactions with Killian spurned their own interesting side tangents which they continued to correspond about, though most often he could tack these on to Jean's letters. Unless Jean was not writing. Which was the more common reason for Elliot writing. When Jean got into a depressive slump, Elliot kept up his correspondence for him - so that Killian knew he was okay (for a given value of the term) and to maintain the relationship. Not that there was much danger of this one shriveling up - however long Jean left it, that door would never close, and what was more, Jean actually knew that. He would pick up his quill again for Killian and push past the shame of having been a 'bad friend' and would know it was alright, even if Elliot didn't fill in the blanks. But Elliot liked to. It was something he could do to help, and which made things nicer and easier for everyone.

Hi!

How are you doing? Thanks for the photos of yours and Emma's canyon hiking trip. It looks beautiful. I'm tempted to say we'll try that sometime but I don't know that our Canadian temperaments could cope. Sounds like you struggled. Do we need to have a word with Emma about how to care for creatures from cold climates?

As you've probably guessed from the fact it's me writing, the house is currently home to the usual menagerie plus one couch-dwelling blanket monster. Oh, and kind of maybe possibly a literal hell hound or at least a very messed up dog but more on that later.

The couch-monster is fine. He's just really struggling with school stress and letting himself get kinda burned out. But just in a 'spending all my energy meeting everyone's expectations, no energy when I get home' kinda way, not an 'I am spiraling into a blackhole of doom' way. He did get a bit 'why do you like me when I'm no fun' the other day. I tried giving him a serious pep talk about all his good points but he looked like I was making him eat glass so I said it's 100% down to his sexy butt. He at least smiled at that, so am I predicting a lot of butt-related compliments in the near future, which is a pretty easy job (he would definitely kill me if he knew I was talking about his sexy butt in a letter to you, but it'shey, NO. Put that down, boy. Dowwwwwn. Drop it. You're meant to be the good head. Drop itttt. Oh ****..

So, hi again. Yeah, in case you're wondering, I am using a dictaquill and I can't just magic away my errors or its errors because my wand arm is...uh... Somewhat paralysed right now. By which, I mean totally but it should be temporary. I think I mentioned the potential hell hound...? Checking back... Yes, I did! He has two heads. I don't know if he's a regular dog with an extra head or a cerberus that's missing a head but apparently two is exactly the wrong number of heads whatever you were aiming for and the poor baby got abandoned. Or it might have been the venomous jaws on one of the heads that was the reason. Or those might be a curse. We're still working it out. But if I left him at work they were gonna destroy him for being a monstrosity and he's not a monstrosity, he's a good boy really. The non-venonous head is really sweet natured. And I think the other side could be too, it just bit me cos it was hurting and scared. We're keeping that head muzzled for now, but the rest of him is just lovely. I think he's a good therapy dog. Jean's already taken him on a couple of walks and they're snuggling together on the couch a lot.

Anyway, hope you're doing well, and good luck to Bonne et aBelle for her exams. We're looking forward to seeing you in the summer.

Elliot and Jean

OOC: No pressure to reply but this silly scene was bouncing around my head and I wanted to write it for some light relief from all my self-inflicted drama

A totally normal idea [Ema] by Killian Row

Killian had laughed heartily at Elliot's letter and responded in like. As he watched the owl fly away off to Canada to deliver his letter back, he tried to ignore the idea in his head. It was a bad idea. But the idea wouldn't go away. If he brought the letter... No, hell hounds wouldn't be a good way to bring this up.

He tried not to think about it. He really did. But it wasn't long before a bang and a crash alerted Ema to his excitement as he bounded down the stairs, missed one, crashed over the back of the couch, and bounced into the kitchen where she was making...

"What.. are you doing?" he asked, his grin faltering as he observed what could only be called soup because it definitely couldn't be called tea. Still, she had a teacup out. And a kettle. And a much larger spoon than seemed appropriate. He hadn't ever spent enough time in Laos to be sure how they made tea their but he was pretty sure Ema was halfway through creating an abomination in all of the UK and Asia. "Nevermind that." His grin returned and he bounced from foot to foot, unable to control his excitement. "Babe... Can we get a puppy? Please? I haven't thought it through at all, but I think it would be fun and cute and please can we get a puppy?"

Yes. Normal people do have puppies. So, why do you want one? :-p by Ema Skies

What are you doing?

Dang. Caught in the act. Ema would have to pretend she had forgotten one of the tea commandments or been able to find a proper spoon or whatever. It would possibly make Killian feel unloved that she didn’t remember the twenty-seven steps and rules to his most important ritual, but it was better than admitting that she was running a series of experiments on which of those actually really mattered. And, like all good experiments, it involved blind trials. There were some things she could see the logic of. Like, boiling water having a different effect than microwaved water. Or pouring water onto the teabag, which did release the tea-colour more effectively than dropping the bag into the water. But at least seven of the rules were totally bogus, and Killian only complained about the difference it made when he had seen the mispreparation occur.

She gaped as she was let off explaining her use of a tablespoon (answer: because literally the only difference spoon size can make is the efficiency of the stirring, and teaspoons definitely grow legs and run away all the time and, most fundamentally, because you cannot actually tell whether your tea has been stirred with a teaspoon, a tablespoon, or a chopstick).

“A puppy?” she repeated. “If this is some weird reaction to Bonabelle graduating, she’s way more of a cat vibe.” A puppy sounded like a commitment. It was hard to tell, with the things that fell from Killian’s lips sometimes, which were actually that, and which were things he just hadn’t thought through the implications of. By his own admission, this seemed way more the latter. “Not that I object to puppies in principle, but why?”

Well that was uncalled for. by Killian Row

Killian blinked, confused about the mention of Bonny. It did make sense though except... "This isn't about kids," he said blankly, eyes round. Was this about kids? "Cats. This isn't about... I don't want a cat. I..."

He blinked a few more times, feeling slow. He had wanted a puppy a moment ago. A two headed hell-hound with one poisonous head and one not-poisonous head and... that sounded awful. That sounded like a lot of work and very little reward. Killian wasn't an animal person even, it was one of the things that had been an issue for him with Marsh. Not that he minded when other people were all about animals, just that his lifestyle had rarely allowed such things. Now his lifestyle did allow room for a small, sweet, nice-smelling...

No, he couldn't want kids. He'd been there, twenty-five some odd years ago. It was a life he had assumed wasn't meant for him ever since he'd been so harshly barred from it when it had almost happened. But that was twenty-five years ago... he had been just a kid himself then, and he'd come a long way since then. He'd been a more-than-uncle-less-than-dad to Bonny for the past several years and now she was graduating and he wanted a puppy. Just a puppy. Right?

"Do I want kids?" he gaped at his girlfriend. "Do you want to marry me?"

He patted his pockets, found them empty, and held up a finger before turning and sprinting back up the stairs. When he returned, he was holding a ring box.

"I got this when we went for crepes," he told her, remembering their first real date. "I think it's probably sea glass, I don't think it's a real stone..." And then he was off, rambling about the details and logistics of a simple silver ring with a smooth green orb in the middle, either sea glass or something fancy, and a pearl on either side. He wasn't even sure if it was Ema's style. He wasn't even sure why he'd bought it as he'd had no real intention of getting married at the time. At least, not on principle; if he was going to marry anyone, he thought he'd rather like to marry Ema.

And thus he rambled on, not really saying anything and definitely not saying anything about babies, until Ema interrupted or he ran out of air, whichever came first.
