Amira had set up a practice for Pecari just after she put up the asked for roster. She knew that didn’t mean that they had to play those positions in their games, however, she wanted each of the players to learn everything. She got to the Pitch earlier than the others and set up a small obstacle course. This one had two jumping ropes, two hoola hoops and a few rubber tires. Sitting at the front of the course were two batons, one for each team. Mira planned to separate the Pecari team into two separate teams to get them working together. Then the teams would swap out.

The Pecari Captain was curious to see what could happen if the Anns were separated and what would happen when different players worked together. Mira wanted to see how each Pecari would react and work things out amongst themselves. She put herself at the end of the course and as the others walked up to her at the Pitch.

Once everyone arrived, she pointed at the small obstacle course and then the pile of school brooms and muggle balls she’d brought with her as well. “Welcome to all of you. Thank you all for coming.” she started. “Now. I know at tryouts I mentioned that we are all going to work together, like a family, and we are all going to be learning every role on the team. First, however. We need to see how we all work together. I’ve split you all into two teams. Then I’ve done it a separate way as well. This obstacle course we will work two separate times. The first will have these teams: Annette, Clara and Adam. The other team is Annabelle, Rupert and Jade. I will be at the end of the course ready to get my hands tagged by the winning team. First, each of you will complete ten jumps using the jumping rope, then ten hoolas from the hoola hoop before jumping through the rubber tires. Once you’ve all gotten to the end of the rubber tires, you will be running a race, each team passing the baton to the next team member as you go. At the end of that race, using the cones I’ve set up, I will be standing, waiting for you. The first team to have all three of their players to me, wins. Then we do it all again, that time with Clara, Rupert and Annabelle as a team, and Annette, Adam and Jade as the other.” she paused, sure that there would be some groans at least, and waited till all was quiet again before speaking once more. “The point of this activity is to see how we work together as teams. This is the start of seeing how we can all do different things, allthewhile working together. This is also the beginning of how we can all play the different roles on the team. So please work together. Nicely…”

She looked at all of them, and waited a moment before she continued. “Once that’s over, we will be flying three times around the Pitch to see who the fastest flyer is. After that we will be playing a pick up game. Annabelle, Rupert and Adam are Chasers on one team. Jade, myself and Annette will Chase for the other team and Clara will be Keeping.” She waited to see specifically the reactions on Annette and Annabelle’s faces before going on again.

“Is that understood?”

Once you have gotten to the point in your posts where you are answering that you understand, Mira waits for all players to reply, then tells them all that when she blows her whistle they are to start. Then she blows the whistle and watches from her spot on the other side of the course.

Clara Abernathy

Clara woke up the morning of practice feeling slightly groggy. She knew that Amira was setting up an obstacle course for the team to run through in practice that day and actually groaned aloud. She didn’t mind physical activities, but she wasn’t really looking forward to running herself ragged through the maze of tortures her cousin had in mind for the team. “I must have been nuts to sign up for this kind of torture,” the Pecari grumbled sleepily to herself as she trudged her way into the bathroom with her toiletries to take a shower. She was hoping the hot water might wake her up some. She finished up her shower, feeling a tad more awake than she had when she stepped into the shower and dried off to get dressed. She had laid out her most comfortable pair of jean Capri pants, her favorite Ramones t-shirt (the black one with the purple lettering) and her purple converse tennis shoes. She braided her hair back out of her face since it was still wet and after tying up her shoes she grabbed her broom and headed out of the dorms. Since it was still really early, she headed over to Cascade Hall for some breakfast. She wanted to make sure that she had eaten and wasn’t distracted by hunger. She got herself a plate of pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. She grabbed a glass of orange juice to go with her breakfast and headed over to one of the tables. She had a seat and began eating her breakfast. She kept thinking about the obstacle course and wondering just how bad she was going to hurt herself or someone else. She tried pushing those thoughts out of her head as she finished eating. The last thing she needed to be worrying about was who she might maim. “I’m going to be okay at this,” she told herself with more conviction than she felt. “Hopefully if I hurt anyone it will just be myself.” She held onto that thought as she left the hall and headed out towards the pitch.

She carried her broom with her out to the pitch and whistled to herself when she saw the course her cousin set up for them to run. She recognized the jumping ropes and the hula hoops and wondered what they were going to do with them. She wandered over to where her cousin waited and took a seat on the grass, her broom sitting across her lap. She rested her chin on her palms and her elbows on her knees. She smiled at her cousin and waited for the rest of the team to show up. Once everyone was assembled she stood up and waited for Mira to give her instructions on what they would be doing. Mira explained that they would be running a relay race of sorts through the obstacle course she set up for them. She further explained that they were going to be split into two different teams to run the relay. Clara found herself on the same team as Annette and Adam. It was the three of them against Jade, Rupert and Annabelle. Clara couldn’t help wondering how the Anns were going to react being on separate teams from each other. She figured they would just have to wait and see. She wasn’t sure what order they were going to start in and figured she’d just bite the bullet and go first. She turned towards the jump rope and picked it up off the ground. She waited for her opponent to pick up their rope as well before she set up to start. She waited for the signal to go and when it came she started jumping rope, counting off the number of times in her head. She had always been pretty quick with one of those and once she reached ten, she dropped the rope and rushed to the next obstacle.

Clara stepped into the center of the hula hoop and began hula-ing. She had never really been quite as good at this one, but she gave it her best shot. Once she reached ten, she dropped the hoop onto the ground and ran from the center to the next one. She saw the tires set up and hesitated running through them for just a second. She wasn’t certain if she would trip or not, but she didn’t have time to worry about that part. She was focusing on just making it to the other side and preparing for the relay race. She just hoped that her teammates were quick and that they did decently with this if nothing else. She began running through the tires and lost her footing only briefly a couple of times. Where Clara may not be very good in the air, she was happy enough being quick on the ground. If this game were played like soccer I’d be golden she told herself as she made it huffing slightly to the end of the tires. She picked up the baton they were supposed to carry with them for the relay race and waited for her teammates to join her. She yelled as the next one ran towards her through the course. “Come on!” she yelled encouragingly. “You can do it!” She wasn’t sure who it was that went after her, but she hoped that they wouldn’t trip on the tires like she had. She was soo excited about getting as far as she had that she hadn’t noticed who it was she was cheering for. She knew it was someone from her team she just couldn’t see if it was Annette or Adam. She continued to cheer for whomever it was.

“Come on guys! We can do this!” she exclaimed excitedly. She was pretty sure she believed what she just said. Clara just hoped her teammate believed it as well.

Lucian D'Alesandro

July 15, 2013 10:38 PM
After the Quidditch rosters went up, Lucian decided to get in some practice before he had to play in his first game. He woke up somewhat early with the hope of having the Pitch to himself. Lucian wanted to perfect some of his techniques and improve his balance on the broom for when he would be swinging a bat at a Bludger during flight.

He dressed in an old blue t-shirt, khaki cargo shorts, and tennis shoes and grabbed a breakfast bar before making his way to the Pitch. Upon reaching the field, he grumbled to himself when he saw a team had beat him to it and were practicing on what appeared to be some sort of homemade obstacle course. There were big rubber tires and some kind of hoops that they were swinging around their waists.

“How strange,” Lucian said out loud to himself with a shrug. He was just about to turn to make his way to the MARS sports room instead to practice, when he saw a familiar face. Clara was running through the obstacle course and cheering on whom he assumed to be her teammates. Clara is playing…Quidditch? he thought to himself with a bit of disbelief. He knew she had a lot of anxiety about flying and had at least one accident, so he found it surprising that she would join a sport that relied so heavily on it.

Lucian watched for a few more minutes, while remaining out of sight, and shook his head in confusion. Why didn’t she tell him about Quidditch? Unless, her decision to play had been a last minute one like his. Lucian began walking away from the Pitch with his broom, and took one last glance back at the practice, just to make sure he was seeing correctly.
