Study Hall - Advanced Class by Tarquin Fox-Reynolds

“Good morning,” Tarquin greeted the advanced students. He wasn’t surprised to be standing in front of them again. Mr. Row had had to take a leave of absence, and it had been explained to all that he would be covering their study halls for a while. Fortunately, today’s session was quite low maintenance, and was a set of activity stations that the senior class should be familiar with already.

“Today is an open study hall. That means homework, supervised practicals or college prep,” he reminded them. There was a station for each of these. The homework area had tables grouped together, along with solo booths with sound-proofing charms around them. They could work on practical magic in a designated area, where he would keep a closer eye on things, and for certain spells they were advised to have him directly on hand – they knew which those were. For those doing college prep, that could constitute writing applications or doing mock interviews on each other. Whilst a grade level peer might not be the most astute judge of how good an answer was, it did prompt them all to think about what questions they might be asked and how they might answer them. Going into an interview stone cold was a sure fire way to struggle, but most students didn’t seem to think they needed to rehearse, or that an interview was even a thing that could be rehearsed. Of course, they didn’t know the exact questions that would be asked, but in terms of scripting and sculpting their ideas about why they wanted to go to that university, study that subject, or what they were like as a person, there was plenty of prep that could be done, and many of them spent far too little time on it.

“If there’s anything you need help with, please let me know. Otherwise, I shall mostly leave you to your own devices.” He would supervise those doing practical magic, of course, and check in from time to time to make sure the rest were at least attempting something other than chit-chatting, but it was due to be a fairly relaxed session.

OOC: Hi. Thought I'd try something fairly easy and open for your study hall. Seeing as not everyone is in every advanced class, I thought this would be a good chance to connect regardless of subjects.

You can mine past classes for ideas about the work your student could be doing - if there were any super cool classes you meant to participate in, or wished a certain student was old enough to take, now's your chance! You can also come up with your own content, so long as it's logical and in-line with what would be being taught.
