Captain Kirstenna Melcher

September 12, 2012 6:52 PM
She couldn't believe it, there were actually more people signed up then there were places on the team. Kirstenna was actually going to have two reserves this term. She wouldn't have to worry about forfeiting or playing without a full team if a player was taken out, which was a very real fear with the Imposter around. The Teppenpaw was still convinced that her nemesis was the reason Aladren in particular was the way they were, when they were supposed to be the bookish type not the jocks of the school.

Therefore, it must be the work of the Imposter, along with Nic Sawyer's improvements as Keeper on the Crotalus team. Kirstenna figured he'd have gotten a little better though experience but not to the level where he'd stop the Quaffle every time like he had the last time Teppenpaw had played Crotalus. She supposed that with Aladren, it was also the fact that a good number of the team was Careys, which even though Kirstenna was a halfblood and her roommate being one and still being a perfectly nice person, she knew tended to be a bit...vicious. They had that reputation.

In fact, the Imposter was one and she was posing as Amelia Pierce because it was the perfect cover. From what the seventh year understood, Amelia Pierce was someone no self-respecting pureblood would want to be. She was as worthless in their eyes as Kirstenna would be, as she was in those of her paternal grandparents. She'd pretty much given up hope of them ever accepting her or her mother.

As for Pecari, well, their win had to be a fluke. At least in the finals. The win against Teppenpaw was definitely because the Imposter didn't want Teppenpaw to win. The spells that she'd cast to help Pecari beat them must not have worn off by the time Pecari played Aladren.

Kirstenna gazed around at the team. This would be the last time she was ever in this position. Who knew where she'd be a year from now, maybe performing in the circus, maybe trying to find some place to sing. All she knew was that right now goal was to win at least one game of Quidditch, just one. Kirstenna just wanted to get to the finals so she wouldn't go down as being a terrible captain. on a piece of meat. She would have liked to think people-particularly the actual Teppepaw team-found her to be a nicer, more reasonable captain than the others but she knew that nobody really cared about anything but winning.

So she just wanted to win one game and if they won the finals, it would just be a bonus.

"All right." The captain looked over the sign up sheet. The two first years wanted anything-Enion had put everything but Keeper but she figured that could have been because he knew that he wouldn't get the position-Aubrielle wanted reserve and Marcus would take it if he had to. The rest wanted their old positions back. "Aubrielle, you wanted reserve, so you'll be reserve" That was easy enough. "Marcus, since you also put that you'd be happy with reserve, I'm going to have you try out with Enion and Carter, as you were also on the team last year."

"Derry, Laurie, Kate and Arista, you will have your old positions back, that means that the rest of you will be competing for Chaser. For today's try-out and practice, we'll be playing a pick-up game of sorts. Marcus and Carter, I want you to be Chasers on one team with Derry as a Beater and Aubrielle as Keeper. I'll be the Keeper on the other team, with Laurie as the Beater and Enion and Arista as Chasers. Kate, I'll just release the Snitch and you can practice looking for it. Okay, let's begin!" Kirstenna went and took her spot in front of one of the goals.

OOC-Okay, so I want to see long, creative, well-written posts as well as frequent ones. Walk-ons welcome and encouraged.

He wouldn’t have labelled last term as being chaser a miserable experience, but it had been a confusing one. Solomon couldn’t keep up with the electrical surges of energy, the air pounding with movement and shouts, calls for passes, growls at interceptions, a rush of mismatched color slashed across his eyes. Worrying over having to be cast amongst the savages once more, he’d shied away from the signup sheet, reluctant to place his name if Teppenpaw received less than seven signatures. By the time tryouts arrived, there were more than the required number, and his tension eased away, though he hadn’t gotten the chance to tell Captain Melcher he’d be available to her again as reserve Keeper.

Thoughts tended to drift across the rivers in his mind, floating and bobbing along the surface for a few moments, and then sinking easily, making way for the pleasant buzz of white noise or silence or new thoughts emerging, rising through the water. When he saw her, something stirred, but as his lips parted the words were lost on him, thoughts sinking beneath the surface, carried away along the bank. It wasn’t until the notice for tryouts caught his eye that he remembered and sustained the goal in his mind. Get dressed, show up, make himself available as reserve Keeper once again.

Because Melcher was the best, and bludgers hardly ever were directed toward Keepers, Solomon could enjoy the whole season relaxed beneath the sun, or enjoying the rain, catching droplets on his tongue, there always at practices and games as a show of support without ever having to contribute energy. When he did fantasize about being Keeper, he imagined his hero in place of him, the projected image of himself he’d like to be. Taller, stronger, the same chocolate ink of his dark skin and the sky blue of his eyes, his dreadlocks caught by the wind, hitting hard against his neck as he hovered in the air, waiting for the enemy to strike, unable to get past his unresisting, unrelenting, unconquerable line of defense.

“Cap’n,” He jogged onto the pitch, in simple athletic robes, no Quidditch gear restricting his movements, his dreads tied and bound out of his face, bouncing on his neck and back. “Ah fo’got tuh sign up. Reserve Keepa agin.” He smiled, bright white, and turning to look around as groups began to form. He felt he wasn’t really competing for anything, and so shifted from one foot to the other, steadying, eyes drifting across the grass, enjoying the heat that shone upon him. “Yuh won meh tuh jus’ sit ‘round, till yuh need meh, or sum’ing?” He looked at her, much taller than before, easily mistaken for a seventeen year old over the summer, lazing with his friends and cousins on the water, whistling and hollering, grinning at the women passing by, rolling their eyes, catching the rare smiles. “Any’ting yuh won, ah’ll do.”

Carter Browning, Teppenpaw

September 24, 2012 12:34 AM
Carter woke up that morning with slight butterflies in his stomach. Today was the day of the Quidditch tryouts and he couldn’t wait to get out there. He showered quickly, brushed his teeth and got dressed. He threw on a pair of jeans and a loose tee-shirt. He didn’t really want to wear any of his school robes incase something happened and he ruined them. He sat down on the edge of his bed and put on his socks and high top sneakers. His mother disliked the fact that her son dressed so “commonly”, but Carter didn’t really care. He had always preferred to wear jeans and a tee-shirt if he wasn’t required to wear his nicer duds. These were what he called his “vegging out clothes”. They made it easier to fly around in which was what he was going to need right now. He had spent every spare moment he had flying around on the pitch with his basketball. Since he had only seen a quaffle up close once maybe twice, he figured the basketball could act as the red ball. He flew around on the pitch tossing his ball into the air and chasing after it if it got away from his grasp slightly. He had managed to catch it 9 times out of 10 and hold onto it as he weaved around through the open air.

He knew that practicing alone only did someone soo much good without a partner. He dropped the ball at one point and just flew around for the heck of it. He loved the feeling of the wind whipping through his clothes as he ducked and weaved and soared through the air. He even occasionally closed his eyes as he flew trusting his body to lead the way. He had managed to miss hitting the goal posts a couple of times not really knowing what actually kept him from hitting them. He had come in from practicing the night before and sighed heavily when he realized he still had to jig his way into the common room. Ugh! This sucks! he thought to himself as he tried to remember the steps of the jig. He had botched it at least twice before getting it well enough for the door to swing open allowing him entrance. He trudged up the stairs to his dorm room and about collapsed in exhaustion on his bed still fully clothed.

He snatched up his broom as he rushed out of the common room and out to the pitch. He didn’t want to be late for his tryouts. Today he would give it his all and see where it got him, if any spot, on the team. To make the house team his first shot out would be the highlight of his day and he was determined not to screw it up. He trotted out to the field and was happy to see that only a couple people had made it before him. He was soo excited about this that he skipped going to eat first. He wanted to do it, get it over with and then stuff his face as he told his cousin Kinley all about the tryout. Carter figured that at least one of the people out on the pitch was probably the team captain. He wasn’t quite sure though which one of the few he saw was Kirstenna. He reasoned that once everyone had shown up she would introduce herself. He walked slowly onto the pitch and keeping his broom close to him silently waited for the rest of the team hopefuls to arrive. Once it appeared that everyone who was coming had arrived, Kirstenna stepped forward and began talking.

Okay, let's begin!"

Carter studied each face as the names were said and raised a brow slightly as he looked from Aubrielle to what he assumed was her sister Arista. Both girls appeared to share the same color red hair. “I wonder if they’re in any way related to the red-haired girl from my flying class?” he mumbled softly to himself. He glanced next to Derry, Marcus, Enion, Laurie and Kate as they all responded to their names being read from the clipboard. Chaser huh? I can do that Carter thought to himself as nodded to hearing her say that he would try out with Marcus as a Chaser. If Carter remembered correctly, the Chasers were the ones who carried the quaffle to the goal and tried to throw it in for the points. Piece of cake. Carter glanced to the other members of his “team” and waited until Kirstenna told them to go before sliding onto his broom, scooping the quaffle up off the ground and taking off into the air with it. He sat hovering on one side of where Kirstenna stood near the goal posts and waited for the rest of his team to assemble. Once they were all into the air Carter took off towards what he hoped was the right goal post. He knew he would have to be quick to keep from getting clocked by one of the bludgers and kept a sharp eye out for any of them flying about.

He hoped that the other members of the team knew their jobs well enough that he wouldn’t have to watch his back much unless the beaters on the other team had wickedly good aim. Since he didn’t really know much of anything about the people here at Sonora he wasn’t willing to assume anything just yet. He weaved around in the air holding tight to the quaffle all the while looking for the perfect spot to try and lob the quaffle to, to get it into the goal past Kirstenna. He also kept a sharp eye on Marcus so he knew where the other boy was in case he had to pass him the quaffle. He zagged his way around making any clear shot one of the other beaters might have had that much harder (or so he hoped). Clutching the quaffle tightly to him he made a straight shot run for one of the goals, picking up speed as he flew. He then circled himself around the goal post hoping to minutely catch Kirstenna off guard before making his shot at the goal. When he was certain he had a decent shot, he stretched his arm back and flung the quaffle as hard as he could towards the opening. He watched with anticipation as the red ball sailed through the air towards the goal post hopefully sailing into the hole past Kirstenna. He waited to see if the ball had reached its intended target or had been caught before continuing with the game.

Either way Carter couldn’t wait to see what happened.

Aubrielle Thornton

September 24, 2012 1:49 AM
Aubrielle really wasn’t too keen on trying out, but she’d been reserve the year before and couldn’t NOT join in, for Kirstenna’s sake (and of course for Arista’s). Besides, it was kinda fun anyway… As long as I may not have to play if I don’t want to, it’ll be fine… I’m not first string or anything, so it should be fine… Right? she thought to herself the night before the Tryouts.

Regardless if she was only going to be a reserve or not, the now 12 year old was nervous. Sure, Arista would be there, so would Kirstenna and she knew neither older girl would allow anything or anyone to hurt her. This was Kirstenna’s last year there at Sonora and Arista wouldn’t let her forget it through the bit of the summer she’d been home for. Bri had nothing against her sisters or their friends, but there was something about the fact that Arista had gotten to go to Europe with Uncle Bryan and Clara that really got her nerve. There was so many theatrical things that she would have LOVED to go and join in with her oldest sister and cousin with, but no… She was not invited…

A part of her was still really upset about that, but the rest of her got over it relatively quickly when she’d gotten another major role at the regional theatre near their house in Oregon. When her younger sister Analea wrote her towards the end of the school year the year before to tell her that the theatre in town was doing auditions for Les Miserables and that the director had called their house specially to ask for Brielle to be at Auditions. Thankfully auditions were the night after they got back from school, and she spent that first night back at home preparing for the audition.

She’d known that she had ticked off every single sibling of hers with the exception of Audi (but that was probably because she couldn’t hear) with her practicing. They’d asked for the kids to prepare a song from the show and also a monologue to boot. She’d chosen ‘A Little Fall of Rain’ which was Eponine’s song right after the barricade fell. The monologue she’d picked was also one from the character Eponine. This one is said when the character sees that Marius has fallen for Cosette and is off in the background. Of course, the end result is, she’d gotten the part of Eponine in the show. (Which apparently had been what the director had wanted in the first place).

In either case, thoughts of the show drowned all thoughts of tryouts that night and she dreamed about the happy times doing the show, her friends, the clapping, the audience, the cheers, the audience, and of course the cheers! The second year was a glutton for attention, that was for sure!

***

She awoke with a start and jumped out of bed when she heard others stir in the rooms around her. I hope I’m not late! she thought as she rushed around, tripping over her own two feet, landing her sprawled back on her bed. “Really?” she asked herself with a shake of her head, standing up once more to get ready to go to the Pitch.

Finally getting there, she ran over to the clump of Teppenpaws that were there, tripping over her own two feet in the process. Running towards Arista, she whispered, “Sorry!” to her just as Kirstenna started talking to the group of them. Bri liked Kirstenna. The seventh year had never done or said anything against any of the Thorntons or of Clara, which would have been Bri’s downfall about the girl. But seeing as she’d not done anything of the kind, Brielle liked her pretty well. At least the girl gave Arista something to do with her risky habits! That was something, for sure!

"Aubrielle, you wanted reserve, so you'll be reserve.”

Brielle smiled and nodded to Kirstenna as a thank you to the oldest player on Teppenpaw’s team as she went on talking.

“Marcus, since you also put that you'd be happy with reserve, I'm going to have you try out with Enion and Carter, as you were also on the team last year. Derry, Laurie, Kate and Arista, you will have your old positions back, that means that the rest of you will be competing for Chaser. For today's try-out and practice, we'll be playing a pick-up game of sorts. Marcus and Carter, I want you to be Chasers on one team with Derry as a Beater and Aubrielle as Keeper.”

“Keeper?” she whispered to Arista, who nodded to her.

“You’ll be fine!” Arista whispered back as Kirstenna went on to tell the group the other team.

“I'll be the Keeper on the other team, with Laurie as the Beater and Enion and Arista as Chasers. Kate, I'll just release the Snitch and you can practice looking for it. Okay, let's begin!"

Aubrielle nodded and taking in a deep breath, mounted her broom and shot out for the other goal from Kirstenna. Bri watched as the boy named Carter went right at Kirstenna’s goals with the Quaffle and she smiled slightly at the boy’s skill. He was much better than she was, that was for sure! Two hands on her broom handle for now, she waited to see what would happen on the other side of the Pitch to try to judge when and if the red ball would end up on her side of the game for her to try Keeping.

Kate Bauer

When Kate thought of her seventh year too much, her stomach tended to twist up in a way that made her feel sort of sick, but not usually because of RATS, or the thought of going through the studying leading up to major exams again, or even the outside possibility that she’d get pulled along on the family bandwagon and become Head Girl. Instead, the thing that made her nervous, really nervous, about next year was how she was going to become Quidditch captain and, unless some grand cosmic shift occurred in the next few months in Teppenpaw’s favor, not make a very good show of it. It was better to be her than to be Kirstenna – at least a one-year captain could claim bad luck, though having been the Seeker for so long did kind of take something away from that argument, too – but she still wasn’t looking forward to it. Her House might forgive her, but her family would no doubt make one too many casual remarks about their own triumphs in school when she graduated.

If she ever had kids, Kate had no intention of ever mentioning anything about the family record. It was completely stupid. So her mother had been prefect, Head Girl, and Quidditch captain. A lot of good those titles had done her since, especially considering how her seventh year had gone. Kate was really surprised that, considering how most of the family had turned out since, that they did like to sit around and compare old school titles so much, but it happened enough to make her dread any and all family dinners, where it was at least as likely as not to come up. Isaac, she knew, already knew he was expected to return to the three-badge tradition WAIL had prevented Rachel and Alicia from following, and she did not think the pressure was going to improve his disposition as he got older. She thought they all would have been better off in a world without any school titles to give them the idea that they were special and could step out of their places in life at all.

That, though, was more of a matter for her future therapist than for her teammates, so she smiled and traded hellos with people until Kirstenna got things underway. She nodded, unsurprised, when she was told to just look for the Snitch. “Got it,” she said cheerfully, and was pleasantly surprised to not feel her face heating up as she imagined what the rest of the team must have been thinking about how she needed all the practice she could get. That was a good thing; she was too fair-skinned for it to go unnoticed if she blushed.

She kicked off with everyone else and sailed up above the rest of the mini-game, looping around to get the feel of her broom back and then settling in to looking around. The Snitch had to be here somewhere, and no one else was even competing with her for it at the moment, so she didn't have to keep one eye on that. She thought she'd have it soon.

Arista Thornton

September 25, 2012 9:14 PM
Arista had the best summer of her life, and was almost sad to be back for school. Not only was she given her own room, FINALLY! But their family had a new housekeeper/nanny in Gracie (who she wouldn’t disagree was a brilliant idea to have!) AND she got to go to EUROPE! Her shiny new passport was still in her possession. There was something about holding onto it that made the sixth year feel older, more mature.

Arista’s room was next to Gracie’s on the new wing they were building, and she loved it! It was huge (and all hers!) and she even got a beautiful full sized bed with a white canopy on top. The bed frame itself was a solid black and her sheets were white to match the canopy. The comforter, on the other hand was a bright shade of yellow mixed with maroon, the walls were a soft yellow for Teppenpaw house and the molding around the room was a maroon color to match with the Teppenpaw yellow. It was just perfect, what she’d always wanted. What was best about that, was that it was her very own!

Gracie had been something else that was wonderful to have come into her life that summer. She was Lucy’s sister, Clara’s Nanny/Housekeeper, and she’d come in from Spain to be with the Thorntons. Anything that would give her mother help that wasn’t her, was awesome in the sixteen year old’s eyes, that was for sure. She was awesome, kept all the younger kids’ attention, even Audi and Ashling loved her as much as they loved Lucy.

Europe, was the highlight of her summer more than the other two things though. Firstly, she’d gotten to spend her birthday with Uncle Bryan and Clara in London. Well, okay, so her birthday started in Stratford-Upon-Avon and ended in London. It was just perfect! First seeing Shakespeare’s house and learning about him and his plays, then seeing Big Ben, Parliament Building, Westminster Abbey and Saint Paul’s Cathedral in the sunset. It was her best birthday yet, because at the end of it they’d ended up in Diagon Alley and Uncle Bryan bought her a new broom for her birthday! It was the newest model out, and it was wonderful! Arista couldn’t wait to try it out, but knew that she would be better off not trying in front of Clara, in case it made her younger cousin feel bad.

On top of Diagon Alley’s trip to Quality Quidditch Supplies, they’d also seen Ollivanders and all the other places she’d only heard of before. Then in Muggle England, they saw the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace for the Changing of the Guard (which made the sixteen year old want to stay there!). They also saw Covent Garden (and the biggest LUSH store in the UK), a few shows (including Ghost that Bri had been on about), Harrods and Hamley’s stores, Freud’s House, Kensington Gardens (and the Peter Pan Statue), Nottinghill, and so many museums that Ris thought her brain may explode with knowledge.

At dusk that night they did a Double Decker Bus tour all around London which took them as far down as the Thames by where the Globe Theatre was. They’d gotten off the bus to have ice cream and walked over the London Bridge (the real one that’s there now, not like the song) to the south of the Thames to catch the tube from Southwark on the Jubilee line one stop to Waterloo to swap out to the Northern Line to Embankment. At Embankment they switched to the Circle Line to Tower Hill. Uncle Bryan had a surprise to end her special day. He was taking them on the Jack the Ripper Tour which she’d wanted to go on so badly.

It was so amazing that she didn’t want to go back to Edgeware that night, she wanted to go on more and more tours, but she knew that she wouldn’t be allowed to. The tours were done for the night, but Uncle Bryan told the girls that there was a chance they could do the Ghost Tour another night, and Arista took that as a challenge to get him to let them.

But, the night was fast approaching and all three of them were yawning, so they backtracked to Embankment and took the Northern Line back up to the Abernathy Grandparent’s house in Edgeware for the well deserved sleep.

The end of their trip was only a few days before the start of school, so Arista was still getting over the time change at the start of the year. She wouldn’t let it hurt her Quidditch playing though, new broom and all! Before bed the night before Tryouts, she turned to her bedside table and smiled. Her passport and snow globe of London that Uncle Bryan had bought her lay on top and she sighed and closed her eyes, ready for a good sleep before showing the world what Teppenpaw could do!

***

The morning of tryouts, Arista woke up bright and early, in the best mood as possible for the sixth year of tryouts. She was sure that Kirstenna wouldn’t really move her role on the team especially since she’d worked so hard the year before, so she wasn’t too worried. Either way, she toted her gear and both her brooms to the Pitch with her, knowing that Brielle would need one. Once she got to the Pitch and saw Kirstenna and the others, she held her old broom in her hand and mounted her new one to fly over to them.

The wind at her face felt wonderful! Landing gracefully near the others, she walked over to them just as Brielle ran out to the group.

“Sorry!” Bri whispered to her.

“You’re fine, now shhh.” she whispered back as Kirstenna started talking to them.

"All right. Aubrielle, you wanted reserve, so you'll be reserve" Kirstenna had said. Arista gave her sister the thumbs up sign and handed her, her old broom, mouthing ’It’s yours now. Take good care of it!’

‘Really?’ Bri mouthed back. Arista nodded with a smile on her face as Kirstenna told the three boys they were going to try out and that the rest of them have their spots back. Arista’s grin widened at her ability of helping Teppenpaw to win this year and gave Kirstenna a thumbs up as well to show the Captain that she understood her role and what she needed to do that day. Kirstenna split the team into two parts to play a pick up game and Brielle looked at her incredulously at being asked to be Keeper for the other team.

“Keeper?” Bri whispered.

“You’ll be fine!” Arista whispered back.

Arista looked to Laurie and Enion, her teammates for the game and waved to them as Bri mounted her broom and shot out for the other goal hoops.

“This is going to be fun!” she said as she mounted her broom.

The first year, Carter, went right at Kirstenna’s goals and Arista knew just what he was planning. She shot after him and managed to evade his eyes and shoot past as he threw the Quaffle. She caught the red ball and made like a banshee to the other side of the Pitch and her sister’s goals.

Carter Browning, Teppenpaw

September 25, 2012 10:06 PM
Carter saw the quaffle sailing towards the goal and felt a sense of victory that seemed to be short lived. The older of the two redheads seemed to shoot up out of nowhere and snatched his victory right out of the air. How the heck had he missed seeing her? Carter mentally kicked himself and took off after her as she raced like a demon for his teams’ goal. He hoped that, Aubrielle was it, was up to the task of stopping her sister should he not be able to catch her. He raced across the pitch after the older girl and watched her closely looking for his chance to steal the quaffle back. He knew he was pretty good at this game having only really played it once or twice before. The last time he played it was with his grandfather and a few of his friends along with Carter’s dad. Mind you he hadn’t been playing with people who were all that experienced, but he couldn’t possibly be that bad.

Carter signaled hoping Marcus would see him and follow along with them so even if he couldn’t get his hands on the quaffle Marcus hopefully could. He swung out to the side hoping to gain some distance on her and ducked his head to avoid being whacked by a flying bludger. He looked around for a second to see where their beater was at that moment. He figured, Derry, was probably busy trying to keep track of the bludgers that were flying out amongst them so he decided not to worry about him. His main focus at the moment was the redhead with the red ball. He decided to try something a little crazy to see if it would make her lose focus long enough for him to get the ball back. He flew to a spot where he would be facing her and after letting out a deep breath flew straight at her with everything he had. In a way it was almost like he was daring her to play sky chicken with him. He picked up speed as he bolted towards her, his face full of determination. Whether or not his scheme worked even remotely remained to be seen. One thing was for certain even if he didn’t get the ball back he at least would prove to them all that he had guts.

Arista (with a little Brielle)

September 25, 2012 10:50 PM
Arista had stolen the Quaffle from Carter and flew off fast towards Bri's goals. She almost hated to be the first one to shoot at Brielle since she'd never really played Keeper before. Ris knew that B was scared to end up having to have both hands off her broom, so she sorta felt bad.

Flying around in a loop, she saw Carter flying off after her and she smiled at his spunk. I gotta say he's pretty good for a first year... she thought to herself as she flipped back over into another loop and headed, Quaffle in hand, towards Bri like a bat out of a cave into the night.

She knew that Carter was following behind her, but her broom had more speed than his seemed to. It was new after all, and the best model there was. She heard the telltale sound of a bludger beside her and she ducked down entirely broom and all. She flew back upwards almost straight up towards the goals. However, when she straightened out, she was face to face with Carter.

She smiled at the boy even though he was flying right at her. This boy had spunk, there was no denying it. Arista was looking forward to grooming this boy as a Chaser alongside her. She knew she really didn't have any say on who got the role on the team, but she would put in a good word with Kirstenna over this boy. He was pure talent, for sure.

He picked up speed and she bolted towards him as he came at her. Just a few seconds before they would have hit head on, she flew higher than the younger boy, Quaffle still in hand. "Good try Carter!" she called back to him as she shot the Quaffle right at her sister's center hoop.

Brielle saw her sister coming straight for her and her eyes opened wider than ever before. Arista was coming at her faster and faster. Then she flung the ball right at Bri.

Brielle closed her eyes tightly for a half a second and then opened them determined not to let Kirstenna down, even at her sister's expense. Right at this point they were playing a game and the two were on opposite sides. It was like blue versus grey in the American Civil War.

Bri brought in all the focus she could muster and kept her eyes on the Quaffle. Taking both hands off the handle, she reached out for the big red ball and actually caught it!

"I did it?!" she screeched.

"You got it!" Ris screamed back at her, grin plastered to her face. "ATTA GIRL!" she called from her spot nearby.

Carter saw Arista flying straight at him as he flew straight at her. He had to admit that he was impressed that his little stunt didn’t seem to be fazing her. He knew that it had probably been a long shot anyway, but he still had to try. He watched her fly higher than him at the last second and was a little surprised that she actually called out “Good try” to him as she flew past. He circled around to see her take a shot at their goal. He held his breath as he waited to see whether Aubrielle would be able to catch it or not. He almost shut his eyes, but forced himself to keep his eyes open. He couldn’t help feeling excited when Aubrielle actually managed to catch the quaffle before it went into the hole. He flung his arms into the air and shouted excitedly. “YES!! Way to go Brielle!!” he shouted from his spot on the broom. He was very proud of his teammate. “That was awesome!” He was almost as excited about her catching the ball as he was the time his dad caught it in the game he played against his grandpa. His dad had never quite been able to catch a ball worth a spit so when he managed to snatch this one clean out of the air, he almost fell off his broom in surprise.

He started cheering his head off for his dad. His grandfather looked less than pleased with the racket he was making, but he understood why Carter was excited. He had even congratulated his son on the great catch. Carter couldn’t help feeling the same way about the catch Brielle just made. It was like watching his dad catch it all over again. He circled around in the air by their goal waiting to see what Kirstenna had in-store for them next. He wasn’t sure if they were going to do another run or if that was the whole tryout. He decided to wait until either Brielle threw the quaffle back into play or Kirstenna told them what she wanted them to do next.
