Bringing in a patient. by Roland Ashburn with Autumn Collins

Since the students had filed into to take their CATS, one in particular had caught Roland Ashburn's attention. It wasn't in a creepy way,nor did it have to do with her family's status, it was just that this particular student-Miss Autumn Collins, he'd later come to find out-looked so extremely ill. She was practically bone thin, like a skeleton and had been trembling so violently that his gut suspected that she was experiencing more than just the usual testing nerves.

So it had come as no surprise to Roland when she had fainted the moment the examinations had been handed out. Though Nanette Langdon had rolled her eyes, insisting that Miss Collins had to be faking it to get out of the test, Roland had rushed over to her as soon as she'd hit the ground. It was the right thing to do and the heck with what Nanette thought. Miss Collins' health could really be at stake.

And ultimately, that was more important. Besides, she was a Collins and Roland was certain the her family could hire her a tutor and she could retake her CATS at the end of the summer once she was medically stable, something Roland had serious doubts about at the moment. He was hardly an expert in things like this but enough compassion let him realize something was very very wrong here.

Honestly, Roland couldn't remember ever seeing anyone look so frail-though a brief memory of a Salem student flickered across his mind, yet, Miss Beckett had made it through- and the heck with it all, he was going to the right thing for Miss Collins. She was clearly in no conditions to take CATS and Roland was pretty sure that she needed immediate medical attention.

So he transfigured her chair into a gurney and her exam booklet into a blanket. Roland had levitated Miss Collins and gently lied her on the gurney, covering her shivering form with the blanket. She probably could have used a few more though Roland wanted to avoid that in case the girl was running a high fever. He magically wheeled the gurney out of the Cascade Hall and to the Hospital Wing.

"Excuse me! Medic Bailey? I have a patient here for you?" Roland called out. He had to get back to his job but he believed the right thing to do was to stay here until he made sure Miss Collins was in good hands. Plus the medic might have questions for him.

Just then Autumn's eyes fluttered open. Where in Merlin's name was she? The Hospital Wing ?! This couldn't be! The Crotalus was supposed to be taking her CATS right now but she felt so weak and cold yet. Autumn pulled the blanket around her tighter, and tried to protest. "Need to take CATS." Autumn muttered weakly, trembling, but the man who'd brought her in-one of the Examiners, she thought it was Mr. Ashburn- shushed her, telling her not to worry about them, that she was quite ill and it was unlikely she'd be taking them today, to just lie back and wait for the medic. Autumn, who was still feeling tired and dizzy, did as instructed and fell back asleep within a matter of moments.

Receiving a patient by Medic Bailey

There was nothing slow or boring about working in a school infirmary, because there were always children going in and out. Dylan had some special patients that needed his more precise care, but he was sure he was doing a fine job taking care of them. Amira had been stalking the Hospital Wing to get his okay-car, but he had said no. After he had talked with the Headmistress, they had concluded that the girl needed a full physical examination by her family's healer and an express permission from her parents letting her play. It was hard to be preoccupied about the child's health when she was so head strong and stubborn. He had said no and that was it, she would be able to play next year after all the paperwork was in his hands.

Another of his special patients was someone he wished he didn't see so often, because he didn't like seeing the girl suffer like that. It had to be hard on her depending on him and her medications, and he still couldn't shake the feeling that her parents had sent her to Sonora under some stupid pretenses. A girl like Valerie needed to be constantly watched, and he did his best. But she needed more, and her parents were just selfish people looking out for themselves. Yes, he knew he was assuming, but he really couldn't figure out why they had sent her to fend off for herself when she wasn't capable. He sighed as he filed her latest visit. Valerie had a file bigger than most of the other students.

The Medic was arranging the files that were scattered around the infirmary when he heard someone call him. Dylan was wearing his usual Healer scrubs and big smile, “Hello.” The Medic greeted the older man and looked over at the girl that was on the gurney. He narrowed his eyes and with a flick of his wand he transferred her to the bed. The girl looked extremely frail and skinny. The largeness of her head in comparison of her body was a big indication of eating problems.

He looked at the man that had brought her in and asked him her name, “Thank you, I will take from here.” Once the man left the room he began prodding the Miss Collins. His quill was rapidly scribbling what the prodding and spells meant, thus creating her medical report. The report was grave; the girl was too far ahead and was most likely going to have severe consequences. Dylan put another blanket on top of her and sat down nearby with a magazine to wait for her to come back to the real world.

Apparently being a patient. by Autumn

As her eyes fluttered opened, Autumn took in her surroundings. It hadn't been a dream before, that brief moment of wakefulness. She really had fainted there, in front of her whole class , during the exam. How completely and utterly humiliating. Autumn had felt faint before, even passed out, but never in public before. What ever would people think of her now ?

And CATS, what was she ever going to do about CATS? She needed to get back, to finish out her test, not that Autumn had even started it. If the Crotalus remembered correctly, she had fainted immediately as the exam books at been passed out. It had to have been nerves, that was all. Certainly the tests had been making her nervous for months. All Autumn had done in her free time all year was study, study, study. She couldn't remember the last time that she had painted anything-literally, she couldn't. Something seemed wrong with the fifth year's memory and concentration. It had been so off lately. How was Autumn ever going to take her CATS right now, let alone get every single question right?

She tried to get up. Surely, it was only nerves that had made her faint, lots of people got anxious over CATS...and Autumn's previous fainting spells had only been due to lack of sleep, her sleeping had been so messed up too. There were nights that the fifth year hadn't been able to sleep at all. Naturally, she'd used that time to try and study.

However, it was nothing but a great effort to get her head off the pillow. Autumn felt so weak. Or that her head possibly weighed too much, just like the rest of her. It wasn't that she was weak, it was just that she had too much to carry. That was it. It was much harder for fat people to move than skinny ones. Okay, yes, Harmony was skinny, but her problem was chronic illness and Kaylie had been slim before she'd gotten pregnant, and could hardly move, but that was because she had a bad back. Autumn was just fat, and her body didn't have the strength to lift all that fat at the moment.

She turned her head to face the medic. Oh, dear Merlin, the Medic ! Autumn had been avoiding him all this time after getting a few comments from relatives that she was too skinny and been asked about her general health. She had no idea what they were talking about. Autumn was as far from too skinny as anyone could be and perfectly healthy. She'd just been pushing herself too hard lately, that was all. Autumn just needed to take her CATS and rest for the summer, that was all.

The frail fifth year clutched her blankets tighter around her-Merlin, what was wrong with this school, there had been warmer days at home in the middle of winter than the temperature in this building-and asked Medic Bailey. "W-when can I t-take my CATS?" Autumn was so cold again that not only was she shivering violently, but her teeth were actually chattering. "And c-can I p-please have an-nother b-b-blanket?"
