Doubled over, coughing, Valerie tried to make it to hospital wing again. She'd been feeling much much worse again over the past few days. The second year had spent all night coughing. No potion or lozenge she took seemed to help and this morning, gross things had come up. Valerie really hated when that happened. It was so nasty and unladylike but she couldn't help it.
Not to mention that she'd woken up with a fever. Th second year really didn't need to even take her temperature to know she had one, it happened often enough. Valerie hadn't even attempted to go to class. Yet she didn't ask anyone, not even Ryan, to help her to the hospital wing either. She didn't want to be a burden and she didn't think that she was bad enough off that she couldn't make it alone.
It wasn't so much that Valerie wouldn't admit to being ill and tried to push herself, she knew very well that she was vulnerable to disease. It was just that she didn't want to bother anyone other than Medic Bailey with it because it was his job, not theirs. Valerie didn't want anyone else to think she was too needy and not want to be around her. She'd accept offered help, but she didn't want to force anyone.
Still, she was beginning to regret not at least asking Ryan to bring her as she began to cough again. Valerie gripped the wall for support. It was only a little further but she thought she might collapse right there. She was sweating like crazy from both the fever and the walk from Crotalus. The second year loathed sweating every bit as much as she did coughing things up. Ladies weren't supposed to sweat either but for someone forbidden from most physical activity, she did more than her fair share of it.
Valerie staggered painfully into the Hospital Wing. She was wheezing and seriously short of breath. It had seemed that way for quite some time now that she would get out of breath anytime she had to walk anywhere too far but this was worse. Valerie was gasping for air. Her chest was in so much pain. Plus, she was extremely, unbearably hot, like she was in one of those saunas in the spas her mother liked to go to. Her temperature was probably quite a bit higher now than when she'd woken up.
She forced herself the final steps to one of the beds and collapsed on one coughing. The odds were that Valerie was probably going through a relapse of the bronchitis she'd had earlier in the semester, given that her cough had never really went away and had been getting much worse again. It was likely that Valerie would probably have to stay in the Hospital Wing for few days.
