Tabitha wasn't very good with dates or schedules or generally adhering to any kind of deadline and was habitually late. She remembered things when they decided to pop into her brain, got round to things as and when she found the time and often forgot what day of the week it was. She always imagined that she was quite the frustrating employee to have, given that she often didn't remember a staff meeting (Mary, however, always reminded her though Tabitha would still forget and was often late). It was only with the aid of a diary during the school terms that Tabitha remembered her own homework deadlines. She was spontaneous and as changeable as the wind and only interested in... well, the interesting.
There were only two dates in the year that Tabitha never forgot. Mary's birthday and her son's. They were so vitally important that Tabitha planned everything else around them. As Mary's birthday fell on the 19th of August, this included the summer holidays. Tabitha always made sure that she and the other two of her small family were in Greece in time for Mary's birthday. Greece always guaranteed beautiful sunshine which brought with it promises of walks along the brilliant white sandy beach a stone's throw from Darius and Evangeline's home and a delicious picnic (prepared by Evangeline because cooking was not one of Tabitha's many skills). Mary's birthday had always been perfect.
Until this year.
This year found Tabitha pouting as she sat in front of the large bay window in the living room, her arms crossed and silently cursing as a thunderstorm unleashed its rage outside. Darius had unhelpfully commented that it had been extraordinarily hot and humid this year and that it was no surprise that it was storming outside. Tabitha turned to look at him, scowling. Darius exhaled through his nose and turned on his heel, calling over his shoulder, "Geez, now I see where Zeus gets it from."
Tabitha childishly stuck her tongue out at Darius' back before turning back to the window. She was going to have to come up with something else for Mary's birthday. Speaking of her beloved wife, where was she anyway?
20Tabitha Brooding-HawthorneHappy Rainy Birthday to you, my dear wife (tag Mary)141715
It was raining. It was raining in Greece. In August. It was raining in Greece in August on Mary's birthday and it was awesome. There wasn't a thing that could stop this grown woman from enjoying every single moment of this glory and she spent a chunk of the morning getting herself and Zeus ready for the day before heading to the living room. Since she was pretty sure that Tabitha had not planned on this particular turn of weather, she also brought some gear for her.
Clomping down the stairs in wellies and a raincoat came Zeus and Mary and it was hard to say who had brighter eyes or bigger grins. Zeus was trying (and failing) to be patient and Mary was dancing eagerly from foot to foot as she held out matching wellies and raincoat (in tall people sizes) for Tabitha. The fact that she was wearing pants tucked into her boots meant that it was more obvious than usual how bouncy she was feeling.
"Come come come!" Mary cooed, taking Tabitha's hand and pulling her to her feet when she realized she was sitting and quite possibly pouting about something. There was no time for pouting! There were puddles to jump in and rain to kiss in! "Hurry hurry, it's raining!"
