When duty calls. by A Memory

OOC: Takes place in a corridor near the HW. BIC:

The memory took form quickly, settling into the shape of a young girl.

She did not - as was apparent even at a glance - belong at Sonora Academy. For one thing, she was not presently in a state of matter - either solid or ghost - which students and staff typically took. For another, she was obviously too young to be enrolled as a student. As someone approached the place where she sat cross-legged on the floor, she looked up, her eyes huge in a long oval face, centered on a long nose and surrounded by shoulder-length curls.

"Mom had to go to work again?" she asked, sounding half-amused, half-resigned. She spoke with a soft hint of a Southern accent, just strong enough to be clear instead of simply coming across as speaking slowly. She fell silent for a moment as though listening to an answer, after which she nodded.

"Yeah, sure," she said, in a tone now which suggested that she was now trying to hide skepticism. "She has to - it's her birthday," she added a bit more firmly. "You want to color with me?" she asked whoever she was looking at, now hopefully. "We can make cards for her, for when she gets back?"

Duty... that is two things mean? by Johana Leonie Zauberhexen

Johana Leonie had gotten into the habit of seeking out the healer when she had questions about relevant subjects in the books she checked out. Since she was most familiar with medical terminology, it made sense to her to work on her English by seeking out texts on those subjects. However, she was also learning that her parents' ways were a bit more . . . well, they weren't going to be the same methods applied in hospitals and things and some of them were outright dangerous. It was good to learn these things now; she had high hopes of someday attending school for healing and bringing that information back to her hometown. Of course, with her eye to the future, she couldn't help hoping there was a boy there - perhaps a certain boy of whom she'd grown quite fond - and lovely pink dresses and things too. Maybe she'd take to traveling around and helping people improve their practices or something. It sounded a bit rough and tumble, which was familiar and she wouldn't mind but. . . . well, what of the glamorous life she had hoped for as well? Life was full of illusions, she was learning, and one such thing seemed to form in front of her as she made her way to the Hospital Wing.

Her first thought was that it was a ghost, since the figure was pale, translucent, and of a silvery coloring. It also looked up at her, or almost at her, as she approached. But she'd never seen a ghost appear out of thin air like that. Appear out of thin wall was more likely. The girl on the floor was also asking her questions that did not make any sense. Johana Leonie was silent for a moment, gaping a bit as she tried to process what was being asked of her; she was pretty sure it wasn't her English to blame in this case. The girl went on without any answer, although the response came in a way that suggested she'd gotten one.

Johana Leonie blinked, not sure what to do. She wondered if she'd caught a fever or something somehow; was she sick? Was she hallucinating? Was this a mirage that was actually forming in front of her or was she the only one who could see it?

"Color?" she confirmed, her voice coming out a bit strangled. "You want that I color with you?" she asked.
