During this term, we will be running a site wide plot. During this plot, characters’ memories will manifest in the school in semi-corporeal forms (whispy, silvery and obviously not real but very realistic looking). The memory will act itself out.
- Memories should be one or two people and should NOT involve the memory version of the character. E.g. if it is a memory Professor Skies has of a conversation with her daughter, we would only see the daughter’s side.
-The memories are fixed and do not change. They cannot see, hear or respond to people in the environment.
- The memories are triggered by proximity of other people. Therefore, they will appear when someone is near to them. Although they cannot respond interactively, they will continue on for as long as someone is nearby, or until the end of the memory is reached.
- It is up to you how much of the memory you want to reveal in the initial post, though you should assume that someone is near enough by to trigger it and not just post swirling vague mist.
We are placing some interaction rules around who can post and respond to memories. Everyone will have a chance to, but we will be limiting the number of participants at any one stage in order to keep the plot well-paced and happening gradually throughout the term:
- Only two subthreads can come off each memory. These may be threads between two different characters both looking at and talking about the memory, or between the memory and a character.
E.g. Memory A is posted in the library. Val reacts to it, noticing something odd whilst doing homework with a classmate. A classmate then responds to Val. This is one subthread. Evelyn then starts another subthread, where she also sees the library memory. She can either talk to the memory, or leave it open for another classmate.
- Even though the memory cannot change based on what is said/done around it, the original poster of the memory can reply revealing more of what happened next
- Only characters who have interacted with a memory can post a memory of their own. So, those who respond to one thread become the people to start the next ones. Each character can only start one memory thread, so choose your memories carefully.
- Characters whose memory it is are permitted to respond to it, but do not have to, and this should be balanced with giving other authors a chance to get involved
- The author box should be labelled ‘A memory.’ The post can make it clear who the memory is of and how they are related to the character or not, or be somewhere in between with clues/allusions - this is up to author preference. The author name should always be listed as ‘A memory’ regardless.
We may adjust these rules as needed in order to move the plot faster or slow it down.
