Level Up! Onto the next tier of adventures. by Gary Harper

Gary Harper cracked open the door and inhaled deeply as he looked around. The room before him was bare and smelled a bit of... citrus? That was probably from the cleaning supplies. Actually... maybe not. The apartment wasn't big, one medium sized 'common' room, a small kitchen, a bathroom and two small bedrooms. It really wasn't much, but it was plenty for now... and it was something he could afford until he could find more lucrative employment.

"Have you had your moment now? Can the rest of us see the place?"

"Sorry Dad," Gary stepped into the room and moved aside so Dad and June could enter as well. He watched their expressions as they looked around. Dad gave a quiet grunt of satisfaction, June looked... critical. "What do you think?"

"Not to bad," Dave Harper commented, "Not huge, but you don't need huge." He then began wandering around, checking out the rooms.

"It's..." June kept looking around as if she was searching for the words she wanted and they were hiding somewhere in the room, "It's... different. There's something odd..." She snapped her fingers, "There are no electrical outlets, or light switches. Why..?"

Gary grinned at her, "We're in the wizarding neighborhood, there isn't any electricity out here. Wizards don't use it. Wizards use magic" to demonstrate he pulled out his wand and lit up the room. "And..." he continued with his grin, "that will make unloading the truck so much easier than loading it." He waved his wand around and gave June and Dad a devilish grin, "This is going to be fun."

Maybe fun hadn't exactly been the right word, but it was easier. Before terribly long, the rented moving truck was empty and the apartment was sparsely decorated. He had a bed, a dresser, a few chairs, a table and two bookshelves. There were boxes of clothes and more boxes of books. Once everything was inside, they took the truck back to the nearest return spot on the Muggle side of town and then went out for dinner. It was nice, but a bit on the somber side. After dinner they walked back to the floo station and Gary flooed them back to the local, public floo point nearest their house.

"You're going to be alright?" His dad asked again.

"I'll be fine Dad," Gary reassured him, again. He gestured back to the floo station, "It doesn't take me long to come visit, and you know how to use the owl mail to get a hold of me. It'll be like school, except I could come home more often if I wanted to. Hmm..." Gary made the familiar appearance of considering a new idea.

"Now just a minute... if you think you're going to come home and keep mooching food from us, you can guess again." Dave Harper cut off his son's train of thought with an undertone of humor. "You get out there and learn to live on your own."

"Yes father," Gary responded with a gleam in his eye. "I'll send IMAP if anything comes up. Thanks again for everything, and let me know when you're starting up that new campaign. As long as the job schedule allows, you can count me in."

Dave nodded and smiled at his son, Gary would do alright. "Come on June, let's get home, it's almost bedtime."

Gary watched them walk off, and he turned back to the floo connection. He briefly debated attempting apperating, but it was an awful far distance. Nah, he'd play it safe, Korraline probably would like him more if he had splinched himself into oblivion.

Another gut wrenching trip, and a short walk and he was back at his new home. He rolled up his sleeves, popped open the first box and got to work. This place wasn't going to organize itself. First things first, game books to the shelf, after that, lesser important things like clothes and getting some food stocked into the pantry. Priorities are important.

On top of his books was the picture of the gaming group that Valentine had taken of them all and made a copy for everyone. He smiled at it a little sadly. With any luck he'd see them again, some of them had been rather insistent upon it in fact. He'd have to write once he was settled in and let them all know how things were going.
