Here's to the future by Gary Harper

Gary sat in his room, at his desk, in the peace and quiet and focused on his letter. This letter he considered might be one of the most important things he’d have to write in his life. It may well determine the course of his destiny and all those that may follow in his wake. There were notes from a recent consultation nearby, a few pages of terrible, unedited scribbles, and a sizable stack of blank sheets of paper. He was ready for this, he was going to succeed, he had to. He was writing to a girl he liked.

Dear Korraline,
I’m sorry for taking so long to write to you. I’d really like to blame it on events that happened over break, or getting ‘back into the swing’ of school again. But, honestly, I’ve just been scared out of my mind. I had a fantastic time at the show hanging out with you, and fears have been running rampant that it may have only been me.

Anyway, all that aside, how has your last term been going? It has been a bit crazy around here with studying mainly. I offloaded a lot of gaming responsibilities already, but we also have an end of the year charity fair happening and I'm volunteering for at least two of them. Does Ilvermorny have year end events?

Oh, say hi to IMAP, he's my owl that brought you the letter. He'll stick around if you want to use him to send a response, or you can send him back if you've got another one you want to use.

I was encouraged by a friend here to include a little thing I made. It's the second sheet of paper with this letter. You should be able to trigger the transformation with just a tap of your wand. I think it will go well with your fez and bowtie.

Hope to hear from you soon,
Gary "Aleena" Harper

He reread over the letter a few times, not completely satisfied with it, but not sure what more to do with it. In the end he sighed and turned his attention to the second sheet he was sending. Because Evelyn thought it would be a good idea.

At the top was written Time Lord biodata module (fob watch). Underneath were some made up D&D stats about polymorphing and activation states. There was a drawn picture of the watch. That had been a bit of a pain. Those Galifreyian symbols were complicated. He'd needed to send IMAP home so Dad could dig him up some pictures from the internet for him.

He tapped the paper to test it, and it obediently folded and twisted itself up into a likeness of the watch itself. Satisfied, he tapped it again to turn it back into paper.

Gary put it with the latter and handed them over to IMAP. He gave the bird a hard stare. "Alright IMAP, take this to Korraline at Ilvermorny. Be nice to her when you get there, even if she doesn't have extra treats for you. I'll have some waiting when you get back." The owl stared back at him without changing expression. Gary sighed, gave him the papers and the owl took flight. He watched as the owl flew off into the distance with his future. Hopefully Evelyn was right.
