Attending Sonora had always been a source of great pride for Owain. It’d been a place where he’d grown, matured and began to become the person he was now. He’d always envisioned a future where his lineage would be considered legacies at Sonora, much like the Brockerts. They’d be only Pecari, Quidditch experts and go on to important MACUSA jobs. Any future children he had would have gone to Sonora no matter what, but he never could have foreseen the predicament waiting for him. Josie was his only child, the second light of his life, and currently attending Sonora. Aladren was a bit of a disappointment, but his girl had always been a reader. She hadn’t joined the Quidditch team, another point of disappointment, but she’d recently attended her first official game and he had overheard her telling Minnie about it. She wasn’t interested in Quidditch as a player, her favorite part of the castle was the library and he doubted very much that Josie knew what MACUSA was.
The fact that his only child was veering so far away from his envisioned goals was one thing, the dirty secret was another. Though Josie’s headaches had been frequent and rampant during the summer they had seemed to be better during the mid-term so far. Getting ready for bed and waking up in the mornings were the only two times that Minnie and he were truly privately alone. She was smearing creams on her face and he was brushing his teeth. It gave him time to think about how to start his inquiry. Yes, it was wonderful that Minnie and Josie were growing closer, it warmed his heart, but it also chilled him to his core. One day one or both of them might find out what he’d done. He’d stopped once Minnie entered the household and yes, she held only a very menial job at MACUSA, but she had been one of the brightest witches in her class at Hogwarts. If anyone were to figure it out it would be her.
He rinsed off his mouth and rubbed a towel over it, “Josie’s headaches seem better now.”
That much was true at least.
“The two of you have gotten closer it looks like. What do you girls talk about all the time? I’m curious, but I don’t think she would tell me if I asked.”
Knowing the topic of their conversations and the general mood of each one would help him figure out where Josie’s head was and if the headaches were related to the memory Charms after all. Would she be forever plagued by headaches, but never remember? Or would she eventually figure out the source of the headaches? It chilled him again that he wasn’t sure which “she” he was more afraid of and it chilled him further when he realized it didn’t matter. If he could get away with another Memory Charm that would make Josie forget everything, he would do it. Everything depended on Minnie’s answer.
