When the weather started to shift from the warmth of the summer to the cool of the autumn, Tabitha, unlike many people, still enjoyed to take walks outside. A change in the weather just meant that her longer and warmer coats made a more frequent appearance and, if it was possible, her tea consumption increased. It seemed like there was never a teacup very far from her reach. A particularly cold evening would even see a drop of whiskey added to her cup. Colder nights also gave Tabitha more excuses to cuddle and snuggle with her wife, something that she would never complain about.
Unfortunately, there were no cuddles to be shared on this particular evening as Tabitha was alone in their quarters (she did not yet consider the little beastie to be company). Mary was working on one of those annoying, time-consuming potions that required brewing under moon light and was currently away preparing the necessary ingredients and Ailuros had gone to keep her company. This left Tabitha to occupy herself and with her lesson plans completed earlier in the day, she was a little unsure of what to do. She had toyed with the idea with playing with Zeus but she hadn’t quite mastered the skill of starting an interaction with the boy and he seemed content enough playing on his own in front of the warmth of the fire so Tabitha decided to leave him be.
After a few moments of deliberation, she decided that reading a book would be on the agenda. She settled herself on the sofa, tonight’s tea set already sitting on the coffee table - the image of a black cat prowled around her teapot while a bird fluttered across the white china of her teacup. Her book of choice was one she had read before but was a favourite and one she hadn’t read in a while. ’Greek Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes’. It was one Darius had given to her as a gift several years ago for her birthday and a smile touched her lips as she opened the cover, seeing his message still scrawled on the inside. Tabitha loved history and legends, she loved stories. A part of her reason for choosing the book was so she could have a refresher on the stories she had read so many times before because maybe, one day, Zeus would be interested - especially as his own name had once belonged to one of those Greek Gods.
She settled to read and reached for her teacup, only to find that it wasn’t resting on its saucer like it should have been. Frowning, she looked across the surface of the coffee table without finding it. It was only when she looked up that she saw it floating gently in mid-air. She reached for it, taking hold of it and placing it on its saucer, only for it to repeat the action.
“What on earth...?”

It was one of those crunchy autumn days where the big orange leaves could be stepped on and make crunchy sounds and then go wooshing across the ground and Daddy didn't want to go outside. She wanted to read a book. Normally, Zeus would ask mommy to go if daddy didn't want to, but that wasn't working out because mommy wasn't around right now. She was making one of her soups or potions (Zeus wasn't sure exactly what the difference was). Either way, daddy was drinking tea and reading a book and sitting on the sofa and not paying attention and Zeus and he wanted to hang out. He wanted to hang out we Dora but that wasn't something they did at night very often. So daddy was the option.
But she was drinking tea. Maybe if she just . . . wasn't? He managed to be quiet the first time she swiped for her cup of tea and missed it, putting it back on the saucer with a confused expression. But when she did it again, he couldn't help himself and giggled raucously.
"Can we go step on crunchy leaves?" he asked, grinning his most charming grin at her. He had heard people talking about his charming grin and sometimes daddy seemed really nervous about that, but he couldn't tell why. Mommy seemed less nervous but sometimes she'd look at him a little harder, lie she wondered what he was going to do next and couldn't be sure she'd like it no matter what it was. "We can go," he said, making it a statement instead of a question.

Tabitha blinked at the giggling child, rather astonished that she had just witnessed one of his first big moments of accidental magic. Her eyes flitted from his grinning face to her teacup and then back again, her brain only just about catching up with the fact that he had asked her a question. She wanted to point out that the exhibition of his magic was a little more important than stepping on crunchy leaves and it was also a little late for such an activity. There was also the fact that she hadn't been alone with him outside of their confined living space and letting the child free outside felt risky and was filled with all sorts of responsibilities and dangers that Tabitha didn't feel quite ready to handle. Still, she found it hard to disappoint the boy. She didn't want to take away the grin he currently hard and she really didn't want to cause tears, so she decided to make a promise instead.
"Not tonight but I promise we'll go stepping on crunchy leaves tomorrow... Perhaps with Mary too?" she asked, hoping to appease him.
She frowned a little, watching him. It felt difficult to refuse the boy and Tabitha was trying to work out whether it was because it was hard to refuse small children when they had cute smiles or whether it was simply because this particular little one had veela blood and was currently exercising the magic that came with that (hopefully unintentionally). At the moment, there didn't seem to be a way to tell the difference but when Tabitha found the time, she was conducting more extensive research into the subject of Veelas and their magic. At first, she had been doing it in order to protect herself, Mary and others from his inherited powers. These days, she found herself hoping that whatever she found and learned would also protect Zeus too. That's what Daddies did after all.
"How about I read you a story instead?" she suggested, directing her thoughts towards something else. He had successfully gained her attention, after all. He might as well be rewarded for his efforts by having it for more than a few minutes. There was also the added bonus that staying indoors meant she could continue to drink her beloved tea.

Zeus narrowed his eyes suspiciously at daddy when she suggested that they wait until Mary could go with them and even then, wait until tomorrow. Tomorrow seemed very far away. Try as he might, though, he couldn't quite argue that it was getting late, and a poorly stifled yawn proved the point. He blinked slowly, probably looking a out more like Ailuros than he realised, and then nodded with a small frown. So long a daddy thought he was terribly disappointed not to go out in the dark, cold, tired world, then he could get away with being a little tired probably too.
He perked up again when she offered him a bedtime story, and the tea cup landed sharply back in its saucer as he grinned and nodded more enthusiastically. "Yes!" he agreed. Daddy always had the best stories. "Read me one of your books," he cooed, climbing up on to the couch next to her and settling in. He was pretty sure, from the way she talked, that she didn't even need to get one of the books with the funny drawings and the handwriting he was starting to recognise as hers. He was only vaguely literate but some squiggles looked different than other squiggles, and with varying degrees of legibility to the young child. Still, he didn't want to completely stop her from going to get one because she might need one this time, and he rather liked the pictures in them; he would wait to flop over and snuggle with her until she was settled too.
OOC - Feel free to assume this is the first time she's read him her journals and he's just seen them before, or that this is a favorite of his and she reads them to him often.
