We will be working on updating the rules page to have a clear, comprehensive guide of current site rules and policy, including use of content warnings etc.
The following was introduced last year, but we are reposting here to make sure the full version is clear and accessible whilst we work on updating pages:
Participation Rules
Sonora is a flexible community, and we do our best to cater to varying availabilities. We also know that it can seem intimidating to come back after a long break. We will always be happy to see you, help you get your characters back on track, and have you participate. Please email us or stop in to our chatzy if you don't know where to start in getting restarted.
In order to protect everyone's enjoyment, we do have some minimum activity rules. This is to prevent active characters becoming stuck if a key person in their life suddenly vanishes.
Author Presence Author presence is determined by posting any character within the school year.
All Characters Active A student character is deemed fully active if they are posted six times within one school year, with at least one post either side of Midterm.
When These Are Not Met
Author Presence: Non-present authors in a school year will have their characters transferred to non-player-character status (see below).
The characters of non-present authors are not eligible for school honors, such as prefect or head student.
All Characters Active:
All authors are entitled to submit a new character, as we recongise sometimes a fresh start is needed to jump start the creative process. However, only those with all characters active may submit two incoming characters.
NPCs Present authors may use NPCs in any of the following ways:
Reference them and their actions in a post in ways which normally be considered ‘god-modding’ (e.g. Jim and Bob run a club together but Bob’s author is no longer present. Jim continues to reference Bob’s involvement in amicably running the club and doing his expected jobs. Best used where there is no major change of direction or plot point)
Request another author to thread with them as that character (e.g. with Jim and Bob. Jim decides he no longer wants to run the club and needs to break it to Bob. As this is not things ‘continuing as normal’ it is best to have a real reaction on Bob’s behalf)
Adopt an NPC. Present authors may request to adopt NPCs and take over their story lines and authorship on a permanent basis
All rules will be applied at the discretion of the chairs. If you are unable to post due to extenuating circumstances, please make the chairs aware as soon as possible. Every effort will be made to connect with original authors before measures such as making characters NPCs or allowing them to be adopted are taken. However, these rules may also be modified in situations where a token effort to keep characters is made but there is no real participation or an individual character is neglected.
