Coach Amelia Pierce

The Quidditch finals were scheduled about a month into the new term. It gave both teams time to get back into practice after midterm, but was early enough to allow the soccer team plenty of time to practice for the meet against Rocky Mountain International. Sonora's Quidditch coach imagined the House teams would continue to practice for the remainder of the year, but without any more games planned until next year, any overlapping players could concentrate most of their effort on the inter-school competition.

Since it was still February, the air was definitely chilly the morning of the Finals (people from climates more temperate than her native New England would probably even deem in 'cold'). There was no snow, even on the ground, but Amelia was glad for her heaviest robes. The sun was bright and seemed to make everything stand out more crisply than normal, as it only seemed able to do in winter. At least the ground and stands weren't blindingly white, else the glare might have made her eyes already begin to ache.

She waited patiently for the teams to assemble on the field, and for their captains to offer their pre-game pep talks. Once it seemed those were wound down, she called the two over to her.

"Congratulations on making the Quidditch Finals this year," she said, with the assistance of a Sonorus charm, so the whole of the audience could hear as well. "We're here to see Pecari and Teppenpaw play for Sonora's Quidditch Championship. Would the captains, Hannah Laurent of Teppenpaw and Jose Hernandez of Pecari please shake hands." Once the two had done so, she waved them back to their respective teams. "Game begins at my whistle."

She released the snitch from the chest of balls sitting open beside her, and then freed the bludgers into the air. She finally picked up the Quaffle, held it in one hand, her whistle in the other, and counted down, "Three, two, one." She blew the whistle shrilly, and threw the final red ball high into the air.

The Finals had begun.

Captain Jose Hernandez

June 23, 2010 2:35 PM
Three years ago, Jose had been attending muggle school. His idea of a sporting finals had been his school's end of year field day, with potato sack races and a tug-of-war. Quidditch games were something he heard about sometime from Uncle Bo and some of the other grown-ups who earned money at the gambling halls. Saul talked about it sometimes, too, but at that time, Jose hadn't talked to Saul much, since Saul was about six years older than him and they both had other cousins closer in age. He'd never touched a broom for any purpose other than sweeping dirt. He'd laughed at Saul when he suggested Jose should play Quidditch at Sonora the next year.

Two years ago, Jose had been Pecari's alternate. He sat on the bench, keeping it nice and toasty warm on days like this. He'd joined the team because his cousin was the captain, but a fear of heights and a lack of experience with both flying and the game kept him being anything more than an emergency back-up. If someone had told him he'd be captaining the team two years later, he'd have laughed at them. If he'd been told he would led them to victory against Crotalus and bring Pecari into another Finals match, he'd've asked who let Uncle Bo and his 'good stuff' onto school grounds.

One year ago, he'd learned to control the fear of heights enough to be able to play the game effectively, though he'd still been nervous when he took both hands off his broom or when a bludger got too close. If he'd been told that a year later, he could swoop up to the goal heights without so much as an anxious downward glance, he'd have scoffed in disbelief. If he'd been told he'd be the only person still on the team from Saul's captaincy, he'd have been horrified, and not just because that meant he'd probably be the leader. If he'd been told that a team whose most senior member was Jose could possibly win a victory against Crotalus to reach another Finals match, he'd've asked who let Uncle Bo and his 'good stuff' onto school grounds.

Right now, he wasn't just proud of his team's showing against Crotalus, he was absolutely positive they could do the same to Teppenpaw. Right now, he was positive that his fear of heights had never been a fear of heights at all, and now that his broom had earned his trust, his only source of nerves this morning involved his winter hat staying on his head for the whole game. Right now, he stood in front of his team, encouraging them to play their best, and he felt like it was the only place in the world he could or should be.

"Okay, guys, we beat Crotalus, and they're one of the toughest teams in the school. Teppenpaw's got Hannah," a seventh year, the school's oldest Captain versus the youngest, the school's oldest Seeker versus the youngest, "and Lucie," a sixth year, and Teppenpaw's best Chaser, "but the rest of the team is as new to Teppenpaw's team as we are to Pecari's. Beaters, those two are probably your best targets, though Tobar did a lot of damage against Aladren last term. Those are the big three.

"Dorian, Hannah's tough, but she's beatable. You're quick and you've been doing well in practice. Starbuck, watch out for Lucie and Tobar, they're the two most likely to take goal shots. Chasers, don't let those two work together too much, keep between them." Jose took a deep breath and (barely) managed not to choke on how freezing cold it was. "Okay, that's it. We can do this. Go get 'em, team!"

Then the Coach called him over to shake Hannah's hand, which he did with a friendly smile and the good sportsmanship to say, "Good luck!" as he did so. She probably needed this win a lot more than he did, but he figured that just meant his team was a whole lot less stressed out than hers was.

Once he returned to his team, he mounted his broom, readjusted his brown woolen hat to better cover his ears, and readied himself for takeoff when he heard the whistle. It blew and he was off. He must have been standing a little closer than any of the Teppenpaw Chasers, because the Quaffle fell into his hands easily.

Jose rose up into the air, feeling exhilaration and adrenaline fill his veins as the Pecari cheering section realized their team had the ball first. He flew up and toward the Teppenpaw goals until he spotted an opening to pass to one of his teammates. Without calling their name out, so as to hopefully take the opposing Chasers by surprise, he threw the Quaffle toward other brown clad Chaser and hoped they were paying attention to him.

Kirstenna Melcher,Teppenpaw Keeper

June 23, 2010 4:32 PM
Although Kirstenna was feeling better about the whole thing with Brian and was glad she knew they were still friends, she couldn't help being nervous about playing Pecari. From what she had heard,Pecari was the more sports-oriented house (though one of Kirstenna's best friends, Sophia, was a Pecari and she didn't seem like that) the people who were usually on their team were the sort that lived and breathed Quidditch. Like Quidditch playing robots. Quidditchbots.

But Teppenpaw had its strengths too. Kirstenna was pretty confident that Hannah had more experience than any other Seeker in school, she was a seventh year and Pecari's seeker, Dorian, was a first year. Teppenpaw's Chasers were excellent, they had kept Aladren from even trying to score on her in the last game.

That was her main issue, even though Kirstenna was pretty sure Pecari's Keeper didn't have that much more experience than her-unless of course, she was a pureblood who had been playing since she could sit on a broom-Kirstenna had to worry more about their Chasers. The first year may have done well in practice, but her Keeping skills in a game were basically untested and for all she knew, Pecari's Chasers were better than Aladren's and were equal or greater in skill than Teppepaw's, though Teppenpaw had Lucie who had to be more experienced than Pecari's.

Another disadvantage, she thought, was that the game was so early in second half of the term. They hadn't had as much time to practice. Of course, Pecari was at the same disadvantage and it might be good that they hadn't had more time to practice either.

The game began. Kirstenna looked at Brian, smiled encouragingly and mouthed good luck. She knew he didn't particularly like Beater but she knew he would do his best. Kirstenna flew into the air and watched as the game begin as she settled over by the goals. She groaned as Pecari got the Quaffle and got ready in case they made a run for it, but the Pecari captain passed it off and Kirstenna hoped it was intercepted by Teppenpaw.

Tobar Brishen Chaser

June 24, 2010 12:35 AM
Tobar was excited today was the day Teppenpaw was going to win the Quidditch Finals! He knew in his heart as he donned his Quidditch robes that Hannah would accept nothing less today of all days. Tobar liked Hannah, she was a great captain the last two years and he wanted to help Teppenpaw win for her. Okay it wasn’t all for her, it was partially because Tobar himself was after the captaincy and now was the time to claim it. Hannah was leaving after this year allowing Lucie to step into the position, leaving the assistant captaincy open.

The only logical person for the job was himself, next to Lucie he had been on the team the longest. Sure Andrew was a year ahead of him but he had only been on the team this year, and he didn’t seem as into Quidditch as Tobar was. Yet the rest of the team were only first years. He sighed and grabbed his broom as he made his way down to the Pitch with a grin on his face. They were defiantly going to win today no matter what.

He didn’t know if Hannah gave her usually speech because he was watching the other team. He knew Starbuck was a good Keeper but not a great one, and the new seeker had caught the snitch pretty quickly, and Jose was their captain and he was their top scorer. He would have to be faster then all three but he knew he could, yes he could. When he saw everyone get on the brooms he got his own and rose with his team.

He smiled when he saw Jose had taken the Quaffle and took off after him. He lowered his altitude till he was flying just below his radar and to the side of him, Tobar prayed Jose would pass it off on his side and thankfully it happened just the way he thought it would. Jose passed it to one of his teammates and Tobar rose quickly grasped the red ball as tightly as he could. With one swift movement he was already turned towards the other goals the Quaffle tucked under his arm.

There was one thing he had learned about being a Chaser, it was never a good idea to hold onto the ball, no matter what. Once he was sure he was far enough away Jose and his teammates and he could see the matching uniforms he passed the Quaffle, glad to be rid of it.

Neal Padrig, Chaser

June 25, 2010 2:49 PM
Beating Crotalus had been one lucky break, and Neal wasn’t too confident they’d get another. This meant he had to get his act together if he wanted to be any sort of help to his teammates. Being the least experienced member shouldn’t be an excuse for him not playing as well as anyone else on the pitch. At least, he didn’t want it to be. So he tried harder at practices, worked on his focusing issues, all in hopes of getting his skill level and confidence up. This wasn’t going to be another game where he touched the Quaffle once and felt sorry for himself. At the very least he wanted to be flying around and looking for openings instead of dwelling on his very own private pity party.

Those aspirations of being any sort of asset to winning the game had, to some extent, dissipated from his mindset as he listened to Jose talk. Even if the third-year hadn’t said it, Neal felt that this wasn’t entirely about winning anymore. It was about progress. It was about showing how hard work can match up a team from lower years to a team with a captain who will be graduating soon. They made it this far and win or lose they just had to try their best – all of them – and show anyone watching or playing with them that they cared about what they did. Silly game or not, to-the-point speech or supposed to be something that made you think, regardless of all that Neal was thinking a lot now and suddenly wanted to make everyone realize how great it was that they all practiced hard and ended up here at the finals.

… Though Neal was pretty sure no one would really think anything was too great unless they won, so he’d still try his best to help out with that, too.

Once they were in the air, Neal kept to his goal of following the Quaffle to be open at any time for Jose or Tristan to pass off to him. He thought it was working when Jose passed it off in his direction and he leaned in to make the catch. He noticed Tobar following closely, but hadn’t anticipated the Teppenpaw’s acceleration to be so great at the last second. Tobar had risen up and turned away quickly, sending the game towards their side of the field. Not good.

Luckily Tobar hadn’t seemed to notice the first year trailing behind him, so when he tossed the Quaffle away from him Neal had been ready and waiting. He came up and latched onto the ball and swung around, using all the speed he could manage to get the ball back towards the hoops for his team to score in. When he thought (hoped) he had managed to get close enough to one of his teammates to pass it off without it being repossessed, he threw it towards his fellow Chaser. He hoped they had been able to notice he was passing it to them and would catch it quick enough.

Demelza Eagle, Beater

June 26, 2010 9:29 AM
The confidence level of the Pecari's wasn't quiet as high with the chasers. Even Demelza had to admit that their last win belonged solely to Dorian. He really had pulled through for Pecari by catching the snitch. Demelza saw much potential in him. However, he was being matched up against Hannah, a seventh year, and probably the best seeker in the school, especially from what Demelza had heard. So, that meant that the chasers would have to step it up. Demelza wished that Delilah hadn't put studies before Quidditch. She was a really good chaser! But then again, Neal, Jose, and Tristan were all excelling greatly with each practice in their skills. Demelza smiled as she thought of the day just her and Tristan practiced: she didn't think of his as some egotistical first year anymore. Yes, he still was one, but he had a bit of a soft side to him she supposed. And then there was Starbuck, their Keeper, and she truly had the talent. The only thing holding her back was the bludgers. In fact, when Demelza really put some thought into it, the only thing holding everyone back was the bludgers. All of their problems pointed to her...

That was why Demelza was actually nervous the morning before the final game of the year. She wished that they had gotten more time to practice, but the people who signed up for soccer had to practice for their game against Rocky Mountain International. Demelza was one of those people, but she only did it because she knew that he cousin Paul signed up for it and she thought it would be fun to play against him. Still, didn't Sonora's Headmistress realize that Quidditch was much more important? Demelza wished she could practice more, but since she wasn't going to get her wish, she decided to she would just deal with the turnout. Besides, she wasn't even sure if her team could get any better.

The chocolate brown haired second walked into the locker room with butterflies in her stomach. To try and erase that, Demelza sang lightly under her breath a random tune that she was positive she had heard on the Wizarding Wireless Network before. Some people may have thought that she was crazy for doing that, but that was just normal for Demelza. The only thing abnormal going on in her right now was the nervousness she was feeling. Demelza was usually pretty laid back about Quidditch, but she really wanted Pecari to do awesome because this was her first final as assistant captain, and Jose's first one as captain. The desire to win was burning greatly in Demelza, and she would most certainly try her best to reach that victory.

After Jose's speech, in her brown robes with her new Cleansweep 20 and bat in hand, the Beater walked onto the pitch, as it was time for the game to start. She mounted her broom and kicked off when the whistle blew, keeping a close eye on the quaffle and the bluders. Pecari, Teppenpaw, Pecari, was the order in which the quaffle was passed. Ooh, a pass to a Pecari. Noo, a bluder coming his way. Demelza knew what she had to do, but she had only a split second to com up with the plan. Leaning forward, she zoomed as fast as she could (yay for new broomstick!) over to the Pecari chaser that the ball was passed to, and changed the direction of the bludger that was coming his way. Since they were close to the goal hoops, Demelza had the brilliant idea of sending the quaffle in the direction of the first year Teppenpaw keeper. Oh yes, and Demelza would hit it as hard as she could without shattering her elbow again, because even she had to admit that Theo's action of taking out Starbuck last game was a smart one. Grinning, she swung her left arm, with her bat, back and brought it forward with all of the force and strength she could muster, and that was a lot for the strong, second year girl. She was built strong and had pretty muscly arms for a 13 year old girl.

Amused by her smart move, she watched the metal bludger as it made it's way (probably 12 feet away) in a matter of seconds over to the keeper. If it hit the keeper, the Chaser who had the ball better have been smart enough to toss the quaffle in. Demelza hoped that she gave them a great opportunity. If this worked, Demelza just might have the confidence to try and takeout their seeker. Maybe, however, Cassy was already on that! The beaters totally made this game more interesting!

Tristan Volkmann, Pecari Chaser

June 27, 2010 2:04 AM
The only bad thing about this game was that it was the last one of the year. Why they couldn’t have more Quidditch instead of stupid soccer made no sense to Tristan. When he saw the sign-up sheet, he just rolled his eyes and kept on walking by it. The only sport that mattered was Quidditch, so trying to fit other ones in was just a dumb idea. A sport with one ball couldn’t be that much fun anyway. But if people wanted to play, fine, what did he care? He’d just have more space in the air to get in his practicing for next year’s games. And he’d heard of RMI, but he didn’t think they could beat Sonora at anything, so even competing against them when they were obviously going to lose also was stupid. The whole thing had him in a bad mood for a while.

But now that he was in the air, taking in the crispness of the cool weather, he was in complete game-mode and could care less about anything else. Soccer-what? Today was about winning this thing. With all the practice the team got in, plus that extra work with Demelza (he had been getting better with names the more he was around his team in class and at practice), he was confident they’d do great. Maybe they could even do better than they had in their first match, but it was too soon to tell.

He hung back as Cap’n Jose got the Quaffle first and watched as some weird looking kid he saw in class a few times took and went the other way. Tristan had his eyes narrowed and ready to go in and take it back when Neal intercepted it. Nice! In case Jose wasn’t around, Tristan flew off after Neal and tried to get ahead of him so he could be ready for any last second passes. And it was a good thing he did, because Neal passed it off to him and Tristan was close enough and ready enough to go in for a goal.

He grinned wickedly as he saw a Bludger come at the Keeper. Great timing on that one, whoever hit it to the girl. He noticed Mel was pretty close and figured it was her, but didn’t have much of a chance to say thanks or anything so he figured he’d try to get the Quaffle in and take advantage of the help, maybe if they won this thing that’d be enough thanks. Without wasting time, Tristan brought the Quaffle back and sent it hurtling in towards the middle of the goal. With any luck, the Keeper would either be distracted by the Bludger or just not quick enough to block it from going into the hoop.

Dmitri Petrovskii Beater

June 28, 2010 3:18 PM
Even though Dmitri had lacked two weeks of practice deemed to be midterm, he felt coming back like he hadn’t missed a beat. Training for the month they were given before the Finals had been more intense than ever. If they weren’t ready by this point, they never would be. Of course, being sure of that didn’t mean that he wasn’t anxious. Only a crazy person would be feeling entirely calm going into the Finals. Sure, they had beaten Aladren, but by the same note, Pecari had beaten Crotalus. Yes, they were better than Aladren. That was a given, but what if they were actually worse than Crotalus? If they were, then Pecari would have no trouble beating them.

Nervously, he looked over to the other team. The majority (by a slight margin) of the team was older than him. And it was definitely saying a lot that their team captain was only a third year. Though, he supposed it was as much of an advantage as it was a disadvantage. Yes, Jose was younger and must be good to be named captain at such a young age, but they had Hannah, who had been Captain for quite a bit longer. Unfortunately, it stood to reason that maybe Jose was named Captain, because he was some sort of brilliant strategist and would be able to counter any possible play they had in their arsenal. So, maybe the experience didn’t matter at all.

Okay, enough of thinking of all the possibilities. There was only one thing to do and that was to concentrate on what he could do to help his team. His green eyes focused on the two beaters. Both female. Both older. Both had the obvious advantage over his roommate and himself. The only way they would survive was to look for weaknesses. Did they even have any? He supposed the only way they would find out was once they were up in the air. Thankfully, both speeches were short, which was surprising for the normally long-winded, advice-given captain, but Dmitri supposed that she was feeling the electricity in the air just as they all were. They were all just waiting to start, waiting to finish, waiting to find out who truly was the best.

Adjusting his gloves, Dmitri took off into the air. Disappointment washed through him that Pecari, their Captain, no less, had possession of the quaffle. Oh, well. He didn’t have time to worry about it now. He had to find a bludger. It was his best option to send one flying towards the other boy. But could he find one before a pass was made? Catching sight of one he made his way towards it just as Jose threw it. No! Oh, no, wait. That was good. He pumped his free fist in the air in support of Tobar intercepting the quaffle. Yah! Though, his happiness was short-lived as Pecari took control once more. He ran a frustrated hand through his brown hair. Teppenpaw really need to get its game together.

Sigh. Double sigh. He really needed to get his game together. So many things happened at once. A Pecari beater got a hold of a bludger he had been aiming for and one of their chasers was going after a score. Worse yet was the bludger was aimed right towards their keeper. There was no time to think, only to react. He had to protect the girl. Racing up, he jumped a few feet in front of Kirstenna. There was nothing he could do about the quaffle, but that bludger was definitely going to be making its way back to the moon. Well, at least, as far away from their keeper as he could manage. Pulling back his arm, he whacked the metal ball with his bat as hard as he possibly could. A satisfied grin spread across his face at the sound. There was nothing better in the world than to be a defender, a protector.

Kirstenna, Keeper

June 28, 2010 4:05 PM
Kirstenna cheered. She was extremely happy to see that, indeed, Tobar did intercept the Quaffle that the Pecari Captain had passed off.

Unfortunately, that happiness was short lived as Tobar's pass was intercepted by one of the Pecari Chasers, Neal Padrig who Kirstenna recognized from class. She groaned inwardly. It might not have been the end of the world for her if they lost and she'd get over it if they did, but that didn't mean she wanted to lose. Or be responsible for it.

To make matters worse, Neal soon passed the Quaffle of to Tristan Volkmann, the boy Kirstenna remembered as having started a fire in Transfiguration. Other than that, she thought he really seemed very arrogant and obsessed with Quidditch. He was a true Quidditch-bot.

That itself was not the issue, the issue was that he was going for a goal.

Now it was the moment when Kirstenna really had to test her keeping skills, something she had not really had to do previously outside of practice.

That wasn't really the main problem though either. The main problem was that one of the beaters, a second year girl named Demelza Eagle that had classes with Kirstenna as well and who she mostly knew as being extremely hyperactive, had just sent a bludger towards her.

What was she supposed to do now? She bit her lip in anxiety. If Kirstenna went for the quaffle, she might get hit by the bludger and be taken out. She remembered what had happened to Pecari's keeper the last time, when they had played Crotalus.

On the other hand, if she avoided the bludger, Pecari would score and Kirstenna really did not want that to happen. While she knew that she would get over losing, she was sure it was important to others on her team to win especially Hannah, as it was the captain's last game at Sonora. Plus, Kirstenna didn't want anyone to get mad at her. She had just made peace with Brian-who it turned out had never been angry with her to begin with-and Kirstenna didn't want to worry about anyone else being mad at her.

She looked around nervously, feeling a bit like she might throw up. What Kirstenna really needed right now was for one of the Teppenpaw beaters to step in. She knew Brian was not overly fond of the position of Beater, but right now, if he knocked the bludger away from her, he would be a hero-well, except to the Pecaris-rather than a bloodthirsty monster like Beaters had a reputation for being.

That's when Dmitri swooped in and smacked the bludger away from her. Kirstenna felt so relieved and grateful that she could have hugged her classmate but there was no way she could do that at the moment and not time to really enjoy the relieved feeling either. The blonde haired first year flew to the Quaffle that was currently speeding towards her...

And caught it! It hadn't been the most graceful catch ever, in fact Kirstenna pretty much grabbed on to it just as it was hitting her chest, but still she had blocked the goal. She had blocked the goal!

Her excitement was short-lived though. While Kirstenna's keeping skills had been just proven in a game situation, it was now time for her to throw the Quaffle back out and she couldn't throw well at all. What if Teppenpaw didn't get the ball? Maybe she would even be better off aiming for one of the Pecaris, because her aim was terrible, and stuff that the first year girl threw never went where she wanted it.

Kirstenna gritted her teeth, closed her eyes and threw hard-probably too hard, her throws were either too weak or too hard, there was no in between with them- in the hopes that she would get lucky once again and the Quaffle would miraculously actually reach a Tepp Chaser.

Tristan Volkmann, Pecari Chaser

June 28, 2010 5:04 PM
Tristan could’ve killed that Beater guy. It was the first time in a while he’d wanted to be a Beater – if he could just have that bat for two seconds… well, no use worrying over it now. The Beater was good and had spotted a chance to save the Keeer and that was all there was to it. Tristan held his breath as he easily dodged the Bludger which came at him. If it came at him on purpose of by accident didn’t matter much, it was a straightforward never-gonna-hit-him kinda shot anyways. What Tristan now cared more about was the Quaffle. The Quaffle that the Keeper had caught.

Tristan groaned in annoyance. Then he smiled to himself at her expression. She didn’t look like she really knew what she was doing, which couldn’t mean anything bad for the Pecari team. To make him feel better about the whole situation, she threw the Quaffle. That is if he could call her dropped the Quaffle in the air a throw but whatever he wouldn’t complain.

Tristan flew up and took advantage of the lame throw to catch the Quaffle. Now Tristan was confident he knew how to throw a ball. He’d been trained how to throw Quaffles ever since before he started attending Sonora at any rate. He took the red ball in his hand and whipped it back into the center of the goal. “That’s how it’s done,” he thought to himself, not letting himself say it to the girl. That wasn’t good sportsmanship, was it?

Brian Moore, Beater

June 28, 2010 5:55 PM
The Pecari House had a reputation as being the sports-fanatics, so Brian had a feeling that this was going to be a fast-paced game. When Kirstenna smiled and mouthed good luck to him, he did the same and hoped it made her feel better about the whole thing since it gave him a small confidence boost. As much as it upset him that Kirstenna thought he had been mad at her, he was glad they got to get to know each other better. He thought if anything he could prove to her how he was growing as a beater in the game. He was going to protect his team, not aim to hurt anyone, just as he had played it out in his mind. That way he wouldn’t have to be hurting anyone so he wouldn’t feel sick with himself.

It was hard to keep up with everything once Jose caught the Quaffle. Tobar got it and everything was good until a quieter, sleepy-looking boy Brian never talked to took it back. Then Tristan got it and his stomach dropped. Tristan Volkmann became notorious for his Quidditch obsession and cockiness, and the first game they had against Crotalus showed he could back up his talk. Brian gulped and stayed back, watching helplessly as he threw the ball to the goal at Kirstenna.

He couldn’t help her, but he wanted to. “You can block it!” he called out to Kirstenna, but he didn’t think she’d hear him rooting for her since he was far away. She seemed to cheer for everyone else, so he thought it was okay to cheer for her, too.

Then everything got worse when a bludger came at her aimed by Demelza Eagle. She seemed hyper and happy in school so it was weird to see her excited to make the hit. Scary. He was He didn’t notice it aimed at Kirstenna until it came at her, but he should’ve before. He tried to fly over, desperate to do something good for his friends. He had that sick feeling back. He didn’t want to see anyone get hurt, especially not someone as nice as Kirstenna. He wasn’t going to make it, but he kept pushing.

He calmed down when Dmitri came in. He smiled at his roommate and gave him a thumbs up with his free hand. The bludger went past Tristan and swerved to Brian. He noticed Tristan go in to make another shot and frowned. He couldn’t help Kirstenna before, but he couldn’t make up for it now. He wanted to aim it at Tristan, but he was too close to Kirstenna and Brian wouldn’t risk it. Thinking that Jose didn’t seem to be paying attention to him, Brian tried to not feel guilty as he swung hard at the other team’s captain.

Hannah Laurent, Seeker

June 28, 2010 7:28 PM
She absolutely hated this weather. Her midterm had been spent in her home state of Louisiana. The weather had been absolutely gorgeous with blue skies and warm temperatures. It made coming back into the chill of February at Sonora right freezing. And at the moment the cold was soaking through her bones worse than ever since she was lacking any real sort of protection aside from her uniform. It seemed silly to wear anything more when she knew that once she was up and moving in the air, she would soon appreciate the cold against the warmth of her skin. She just had to wait until that point.

Staying still was the absolutely hardest part for Hannah when all she wanted right now was to be up in the air, so she kept her speech short unlike any of her previous speeches, “Okay, team, everyone’s done amazing so far and it’s thanks to all of your hard work that we’ve made it this far. Let’s keep it going and bring in that win.” She left out anything about how this was her last game ever at Sonora or how she wanted it more than anything. Oh, and she really, really did. She wanted to be the best. She didn’t know when she had become quite so competitive, but there it was, her thirst to be the best.

Perhaps, if Hannah had been more driven when it came to Oliver, things might have worked out, but the only interest she had taken was in beating him in Quidditch and she had already done that, sort of. If Crotalus had won against Pecari then she would be battling against Crotalus right now and not Pecari, but as they were battling against Pecari, she figured that meant Teppenpaw had kind of beaten Crotalus. Though, if she really considered it, if they lost today against Pecari than who was really better? Teppenpaw or Crotalus? Because they would have both lost to Pecari.

Her gaze drifted over to where the Pecaris were standing. There was no doubt that they were a tough group even with their young age. She didn’t doubt that if they all stayed on the team they would become an unbeatable lot, especially as they got older. Jose Hernandez, the Captain, was merely a third year and he had already won against an experienced Captain. Thankfully, aside from their horrific familial relationship, she had the uttermost confidence in Lucie to be able to take on the chaser. Then, there was the Assistant Captain, Demelza Eagle. Hannah had watched her during the Pecari versus Crotalus game. She was a crazy, fearless beater. The most dangerous kind.

Not that the other beater, Caspia Brooks, was any less worrisome. She was a barely known quantity, having transferred from another school. The most Hannah knew was what she had seen in the last game. Her beaters were definitely going to have to work to keep up with those two. Tristan Volkmann and Neal Padrig, also fairly unknown, but she was sure that the Teppenpaw chasers could give them a run for their money. Starbuck Gregory would probably be hard to score against, but in the end Dorian Talsky was the one that mattered most. He was their Seeker, the one she had to beat, the one she had to beat. It would be utterly humiliating to lose the game to a first year.

When the whistle sounded, Hannah was off like lightening. She didn’t look back to see that Pecari had gained possession of the quaffle. She didn’t pay attention to when it went to Teppenpaw or back to Pecari or when they tried to make goals. None of it mattered to her right at this instant. There was only one thing that mattered and that was finding the golden ticket to victory. Sitting on her broom, above the onslaught going on below, Hannah tucked on one of her blonde braids. Where was it? Where was the snitch? She had to find it, had to find it before Dorian. Was that it over there? No, of course not. That would have been too easy to find it so soon.

Or maybe it was that easy? Yes, maybe it was. She didn’t doubt that this time she had spotted it. Aiming down, she flew as fast as she could towards the Pecari goals. It was hovering near the left one. She just hoped it was enough that she could get to it before the other seeker caught on. She was almost there. She could feel it in her bones. She was going to get it. She knew it. Oh no! Where did it go? It was there just a second ago and already it was gone. Drat! It couldn’t have gone that far, could it have? Oh, that was a silly question. Of course, it could have. It was a speedy little bugger.

Swirling up above once more, a pure look of concentration on her face, Hannah began searching again. Sneaking only one glance to see how it was going and was dismayed to see a bludger and quaffle heading towards her keeper. She hoped the younger girl was okay. That would have been really awful. She didn’t have anyone else to put in the game. Plus, she didn’t want to see one of her teammates injured. She silently cheered when she saw the amazing job Dmitri and Kirstenna do and knew that her team would do a fine job no matter if they won or lost, but preferably if they won. And that counted a lot on her. Drawing her focus back, she set back on her quest. She would find the snitch. She would find the snitch. She would find the snitch!

Kirstenna, Tepp Keeper

June 28, 2010 10:32 PM
Kirstenna held her breath as she shot the quaffle out onto the pitch, she knew the throw had been too hard, and that it had probably gone far away. Hopefully, one of the Teppenpaw Chasers was out there to get it.

What the! How could Tristan have got it back again? Kirstenna had thrown it extremely hard and it had been going rather fast. Nor had she sent it even slightly in his direction. She knew her aim was bad but it was not quite that bad.

Still, even though she might have thrown it more off course than she'd previously estimated-estimation was not in Kirstenna's genes, Melchers liked to be exact so she might not have estimated her error nearly enough-the Quaffle had been going super super fast so nobody should have been able to catch it really, let alone someone who was as close to the goals as Tristan had been and still was. Kirstenna had figured it was more likely that nobody would catch it, and someone would have to go and get it and the game would continue from there.

Fortunately, she was still in pretty much the exact area she had been in when she had caught the previous shot and better yet, there was no bludger going towards her right now. Therefore, she was not feeling quite so anxious or scared and she was very well prepared to go after it this time given that it had been barely a couple of minutes since the last try. Probably anyway, Kirstenna was not that good at estimating time length either, she should probably start wearing a watch especially for things like Potions, as Quentin had told her that it was important to make sure they were timed correctly.

Anyway, as she had not had any time to be distracted by anything,it was that much easier to catch this one and Kirstenna snatched it up right before it went in.

And here she was again, in the same position as before, having to throw it again. Kirstenna could not let the same thing happen this time-though she honestly did not know how it possibly could have happened in the first place. The time she had to get it to one of the Teppenpaw Chasers.

She looked nervously back at Tristan, biting her lip. Something about the other first year seemed almost predatory. almost creepy, and made her feel a little anxious and sick. Kirstenna suddenly had an idea. She flew to the far end of the goal posts and threw hard again off to the side, as far away from Tristan as she could get, aiming at the closest yellow uniform, which she sincerely hoped was a Chaser.

OOC-Tristan, it's up to the Keeper to decide if it goes in or not. Also, I said Kirstenna threw the Quaffle too hard and that she either did that or threw not hard enough most of the time. She threw badly, yes, but not weak. That time she threw too hard.

Lucie Dupree, Chaser

June 28, 2010 10:35 PM
Lucie hopped from one foot to another. She got that everyone was nervous and such about this game. It was the Finals after all, but she didn’t have that anxiousness about her. To her, this was just another game. There was no need to be anything, but relaxed. She would play just as she always did with the hope that they won. She didn’t doubt that Pecari had a decent, more than decent really, team that could win. But she was also aware that their team was pretty good as well. People might write them off as being the ones that couldn’t possibly win, especially against Pecari who tended to be more Quidditch involved; yet that was part of the fun of it all. They were the Prairie underdogs and how many stories always have the underdog winning?

She pulled her jacket a little closer. She wasn’t really cold. Being from Quebec definitely had its advantages. It was more of something to do while listening to Hannah’s speech, though, she was surprised at how little there actually was to it. Normally, her cousin would have some long-winded speech about what they should do and who they should be on the lookout for. But whatever. If it was short that was just as fine. She didn’t need to know all the details of everyone. She just needed to do what she did in practice time and again. And with the way Hannah had been conducting practices, she could do the drills in her sleep. Not that it was all that surprising.

The thing that had happened between Hannah and Oliver had been terrible. Obviously, she didn’t know all the details, but the entire spaghetti incident at the beginning of the year had been saying a lot. It was like without Oliver, Hannah had become focused on one thing and one thing only. Winning. Sure, the girl had always wanted to win before, but it was like now it was coming with a vengeance. If Lucie wasn’t the Assistant Captain, she might have actually considered quitting. She just didn’t think that the need to win was all that serious. It reminded her entirely too much of her family where being the best was all consuming. Perhaps, that’s where it was coming from in Hannah.

At any rate, she didn’t plan to ever be like that, especially over some boy. Life (meaning everything before arranged marriage) was just too short for that. To her, it was all about having fun so even though Jose got the quaffle first, she didn’t panic over it. She did the most obvious thing and went after him, waiting for a pass. Of course, her relaxed attitude didn’t mean that she wasn’t going to try her best. She grinned when Tobar took control and frowned when she didn’t manage to catch his pass. But that was still okay so long as Kirstenna was still awesome and blocked shots. If they kept the score the same or even if Pecari only managed to get a little ahead, they had more of a chance with Hannah’s experience and determination over Dorian. So, no, she wasn’t worried.

Her long, blonde hair whipped in her face at every change in direction to follow someone until it got to Tristan. Shoot! Quite literally. He tried to make the shot twice. Okay, that she wasn’t prepared for, but that was all right too. Kirstenna managed to block both shots. When the quaffle was passed back, she easily snatched it out of the air instead of allowing Pecari to gain access to it once more. She gave a quick thumbs up to the younger girl for a job well done before shifting her broom around to the other direction. Thankfully, she had an easily maneuverable broom so it wasn’t too hard to do and was already heading towards the Pecari goals. Unfortunately, there was no way she would be able to hold on to the red ball for too long. It made her too much of a target. Looking for the nearest Teppenpaw chaser, she threw the ball.

Tristan Volkmann

I feel like I have to clear this up so there are no hard feelings. I never said he scored the goal I just said where he aimed. I feel I left that up for Kirstenna to decide if he made the shot and I never assumed he would make it. Sorry if it seemed like he did, I didn’t mean for it to read like that. It seemed more that you assumed he flew away from the goals and was farther away, which I never said he did, so I thought he could catch a last minute throw. And I didn't mean 'weak' as in 'not hard' but the more slang type of weak as in 'not good.' She even said she didn't think it was a good throw so I was going off of that. Sorry if I offended you, I didn’t mean or want to! I'll try to tone down his ego for the game if that makes you feel any better.

June 29, 2010 1:17 PM
Tobar hung back a bit watching the exchange of the Quaffle, the first year Pecari had to be taken out he was just getting in the way too much. He hoped that Brian and Dmitri saw the necessity of taking out a fellow first year. He groaned when the boy got a second shot at the goals. Thankfully Kirstenna seemed to be a good enough Keeper that she was able to block both tries, or maybe just maybe the chaser was just a bad shooter.

Thankfully he saw Lucie get the Quaffle and start heading towards the Pecari goals. He knew she wasn’t going to hold onto the red ball and it would be up to him to shoot for the goals. When the black haired boy saw the ball passed he grabbed it in tucked it securely under his arm. He shot forward and wondered which goal to shot for. Starbuck was a decent Keeper and caught a lot of shots, he just prayed that he was able to get it in.

The gypsy was near the goals and he smiled. He knew he didn’t need some beater to take the poor girl out to score he could score with his natural talent. Shooting forward once again he threw the red ball as hard as he could towards the right goal.

Starbuck Keeper

June 29, 2010 4:53 PM
Starbuck was ready to the Quidditch final; she wouldn’t have to listen to Mel anymore, thank goodness! That morning she had woken up to see a letter from Farrah awaiting her. The red-head smiled and couldn’t wait till term ended and she went home, to see her girlfriend! Thankfully Ishmael didn’t ask questions about how often the two wrote to each other, especially since he was the one delivering the letters. It was short but sweet letter wishing Star luck for her final. Of course Farrah thought she played volleyball like they had at home, instead of Quidditch but either way it was the thought that counted. Before leaving the dorm Star tucked the letter under her pillow and left with broom in hand.

She was so excited that the final was today Pecari was going to show everyone that a young team like them could win! Jose was a great Captain and everyone (even Mel, Starbuck admitted begrudgingly) was great at their jobs. Once down at the pitch she listened carefully to Jose’s speech as she tied her long red-hair back tightly. She nodded when he warned her about Lucie and Tobar; they did make quite a team. Of course the second year would be looking out for not only the Chasers but the darn beaters. She was still a bit nervous about falling off her broom again but she had to get over the fear or she would do no good to her team. Coach Peirce had stopped her from falling and if it happened again (which it wouldn’t) she would be right there.

Finally the Captains went and shook hands, while the rest got ready to fly. Though it was cold Starbuck couldn’t wait to get it started, the movement would help keep her warm. Once in the air though she realized just how hard this time it was going to be. The cold was wearing on her mind before too long and it made her eyes dry out, thankfully Pecari seemed to be in possession of the ball for most of the time. She groaned when the older Teppenpaw got a hold of it and saw Tobar ready for it. So he would be the one shooting, great. He didn’t have as much experience as Lucie so the odds weren’t for or against her.

Just as he was about to throw the ball she thought he heard the crack of a bat against a bludger and she took her eyes off the ball for a split second. That second was all that Tobar needed he scored. Starbuck sighed and closed her eyes. Crap! How could she have looked away? Next time there was no way she was letting them score.

Demelza Eagle, Beater

June 30, 2010 9:17 AM
Oh, the swears Demelza muttered under her breath as the game unfolded before her would most certainly have made her brother's proud. First, she had no idea how on earth that first year beater hit her bludger away from their keeper. Demelza hit it as hard as she could 12 feet away! She was pretty positive that the beater wasn't already there, but... maybe she just didn't see him. But this game just felt whack. The first year Teppenpaws were really good. Too good! Demelza just wanted to take one of them out, especially that keeper who saved two of their goals. Demelza had no idea where Cassy was, so she would just have to work on the bludgers herself. She frowned and groaned as a quaffle flew right past Starbuck. But she realized quickly that she was needed elsewhere.

She noticed a bludger coming Jose's way. He could have easily dodged it, but it was Demelza's job to hit it! She quickly zoomed over to the bludger (she loved zooming on her new broomstick) and took a hard swing at it, sending it toward Tobar, who deserved it because he just scored against Pecari. She really wanted to shoot it towards their keeper (she didn't mind Tobar much as a person) because she should have been taken out last time. The chocolate brown haired beater watched her accurately hit bludger as it quickly made it's way over to a fellow second year.

The whole game was rather annoying her: she couldn't believe that Pecari had two shots on goal but not one of them made it in. The chasers were all doing very good, it just didn't mathematically measure out! Not that Demelza was any good at math. But that was something Jamie would say when he was in a game and Australia was losing. Oh wait, focus. She even took her ADD and ADHD potions today! C'mon Mel, it's game time! Remember, you're gonna hurt people! She reminded herself, grinning. She hoped that a Pecari chaser would get the quaffle and bring it back over to the other side. Then, Demelza would ensure that the first year keeper would fall, just like Starbuck did last game. Man, what had gotten into her? Her potions weren't so groovy, especially when she wanted to hurt people so badly and get revenge on someone for something that happened to Starbuck. Starbuck hated her, for a reason she still didn't really know why! Demelza was whacko, man!

Not that that was any news to anyone.

And the ego thing, that's just how Tristan is! So long as it's equally aimed at the other Tepps and not just Kirstenna, it's no problem. I have plenty of characters who probably behave in ways someone will find offensive. :)

Dorian Talsky

June 30, 2010 8:03 PM
Dorian woke up excited the day of the Quidditch final. He couldn’t believe he had helped the team to the finals, and had successfully proven his worth to his team. The youngest Talsky dressed in his Quidditch robes before charming his hair to keep it from blowing in the air. Dmitry had taught it to him during the midterm just for the final, it was one of the few times the Pecari remembered his older half brother being nice to him. He let out a sigh he wanted to win today to show his team that his last time wasn’t a fluke, and his nervousness was getting to him.

Finally he left his dorm broom in hand. He decided to forego breakfast once again and made his way down to the Pitch. Not many people were there yet due to the cold so Dorian did a couple of laps to get used to the cold. Once most of the team was gathered the first year flew down and stood next to them smiling. He felt good about it today, especially after Jose said Hannah was beatable.

Once the teams were rising in the air Dorian went further up and saw Hannah. He ignored her and kept his eyes peeled for the little golden ball. When Hannah raced off the first year stayed still, he hadn’t seen any gold, and he wouldn’t be fooled by anyone. He sighed and as he moved further away from Hannah and up a little higher. He was going to catch the snitch and show the whole school to never underestimate a first year!

Lucie Dupree, Chaser

July 01, 2010 10:54 AM
They were definitely on their game. Lucie had no doubts about it, especially when Tobar managed to catch her pass and better yet score against Pecari’s keeper. After that the most important thing was keeping control of the game. Once the quaffle was back in the game, Lucie took the ball and tucked it neatly under her arm. Sure, she could have tried making the shot, but Starbuck probably would have blocked it since she would have been expecting it. This way, maybe the keeper still would, but at least, there was more of a chance of scoring.

She rounded towards Teppenpaw’s goals and started flying as fast as she could. Her blonde hair whipped behind her. Anyone seeing Lucie might have thought she had suddenly forgotten what team she was on. Halfway there, gripping her broom so tightly that her knuckles turned white, she arched straight up and turned towards the other direction before twisting into an upright position. She hated being upside down for any length of time, because of the feeling of blood rushing towards her head and giving her a dizzying feeling that she wasn’t able to concentrate in. And right now, she needed to concentrate.

Otherwise, it was neat to see the world from such an angle. It reminded her of something from Alice in Wonderland, one of the books she had checked out from the library over midterm and had found quite delightful, but lacking in any real plot. Aside from that story, it also reminded her of Enchanted Mist, which was a fairly cool spell to think about. She had once written a story about a modified version of it to which a kingdom had lived in. The young knight had accidentally stumbled out of their world to find what he thought was a world under some powerful sorcery. Though, he later learned, it had been his kingdom that had been cursed with the charm.

But she had little time to think about stories. Lucie headed straight towards one of the Pecari chasers. She made like she was going to pass it to them and then threw it up above her. She only hoped that one of her fellow yellow clad chasers had realized what play she had been doing and was there to catch it. Otherwise, they would be heading back towards Teppenpaw’s goals where poor Kirstenna was. She was a good keeper, but Lucie didn’t know how long she could manage to keep blocking shots without Pecari managing to score at least one. Besides, they needed to get as many shots in as they could just in case somehow the first year managed to find the snitch before Hannah.

Dmitri Petrovskii Beater

July 01, 2010 3:16 PM
All right, so the bludger, Dmitri had been trying to get towards had been hit by the female beater, but not getting there had worked out. He had been able to get to Kirstenna in time to protect her, which was awesome cause it meant she was able to do her job and protect the goals. Unfortunately, even so, the opposing chaser got to take another crack at shooting the quaffle. Frowning and unable to feel a bit helpless in the situation, Dmitri watched as the quaffle was sent towards Kirstenna once more. He only wished that she would be able to be able to block it again. He supposed what they said about wishes were true. If wishes were horses, then everyone would be riding. In this case, they were all riding brooms, but still it applied well enough. His wish came true.

So, now, his roommate, Brian, had taken control of the bludger he had just sent off, which was just fine with him. He trusted Brian and knew he would do whatever he needed to do, but trust was a two way street and that meant he needed to find the other bludger or else they might be in trouble with Demelza about. Thankfully, she seemed a little preoccupied by the bludger Brian had sent towards their Captain and that left him slightly open to find the other one. Of course, he had no idea where their other beater was. He thought she would be making more of a play given that she was older, but then Demelza was the Assistant Captain and she was a bit crazy so it stood to reason that she would seemingly be everywhere at once.

He wasn’t really sure if he could ever be as beater happy as she was. She seemed to actively want to hurt people. He enjoyed the sound the bat made against the metal ball, but it was more that he saw himself as some sort of guardian than a warrior. He liked being able to protect his teammates and friends. To his view, it was similar to how his dad protected people by being able to make peaceful relations between countries and people. Perhaps, one day he would be able to be like his father. Perhaps, that’s why he was in Teppenpaw in the first place. He was a peaceful negotiator at heart and wanted what was best for everyone.

Of course, not everyone could always get what they wanted and certainly today was one of those days and it was fairly obvious that for him what would make the most people happy (those being his House) would be for Teppenpaw to win the Finals. He just had to do his part to make sure it happened. Looking around, he spotted the other metal ball and raced off towards it. He didn’t actively seek to hit others, but would do as necessary to ensure that his team members remained unharmed and that meant keeping control. Flipping his wrist for the right angle, he sent the ball flying towards one of the other team. He hoped that it did the minimal damage possible. Preferably only to their broom since that was less painful.

Hannah Laurent, Seeker

July 06, 2010 9:49 PM
Hannah was still chanting about how she would find the snitch when she paused, very nearly sure that she had seen the wonderful golden ball. Yes, there it was. Oh, and how difficult it was going to be to get. Even so, it was doable. She was glad that she hadn’t gone up any further or else she might very well have missed it. Now, all she had to do was ensure that she actually got it before the first year, especially considering how utterly humiliating it would be to lose her final year as Captain to a beginning first year. Though, it would do probably be an incredible boost to his reputation.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t something she was willing to give to him. Soaring into the battle that was raging below her, she whipped around other players. She didn’t notice the bludgers or the quaffle being passed. She didn’t even notice if she was going around a yellow or brown clad chaser. Her mind was set on one thing and one thing only. The snitch. It was hovering in the center goal hoop as if it were mocking all involved. Honestly, she wouldn’t be surprised if it was. It seemed to like to play games, but she supposed that was the entire point. Quidditch was a game with games inside of it.

But for her there was only the game of catching the snitch. She was so close now and just hoping that the other seeker neither caught on nor had time to get there. Looping around the farthest right goal post, she circled around as tightly as possible with banging herself against it. Reaching out, she wrapped her hand around the snitch. An unintended consequence was that she went through the hoop right behind Kirstenna and probably scared the poor girl. But there it was. No more waiting. They had won.
