Following on from the discussion on the OOC, I've had an idea regarding ghosts. One of the problems I find with them is that they don't "write out" if the author quits or becomes inactive. You can't explain that they just decided to leave and haunt somewhere else. So, what if we established some ghosts of Sonora, and these are played collectively by the staff?

One place where this could be really effective would be the Opening Feast. Rather than have a mentor scheme, and risk that specific author being busy, we could have the ghosts. Then, if a new writer hasn't got a reply within [agree set amount of time] a free staff member can use a ghost to reply to them. This has the added benefit of giving first years a chance to interact with their peers, whilst making sure they get replied to. I would suggest that, for consistency, the same staff member writes that ghost for the rest of that thread but we can modify this if it seems not to be working.

I'm suggesting we have two or three ghosts to pilot this scheme with (I will also break my ghost out of retirement for the purpose of talking to newbies if needed), as I don't want to get over-run with ghosts that are then not used. If you have an idea for a ghost, please post a brief outline below. If we get more than three, we can vote on which ones we use in the pilot. My idea is below...

Ghost 1 (name to follow):
A dapper young man with a neat side parting, dressed in the style of the 1920s. Always had a passionate curiosity for Muggle contraptions and how they work. This interest has persisted into his death and he is especially fond of discussing technology with Muggleborns. He was a compulsive tinkerer in life. Unfortunately, that flying machine could have just done with a bit more work....

Excellent idea! Maybe having ghosts around will make Duncan stop complaining so much.

I am for ghosts anyway we can have them.

Jemima Creedy is a kindly, rotund woman in her mid-seventies, with a gentle smile between rosy cheeks and permed hair. She hails from the 1940s, to which her flowery dress and ever-present apron can attest, and her keenest desire is to mollycoddle and nurture any students who seem to be in need of a little Motherly Love.
