Mia went slowly through the halls after leaving the Astronomy Room, her thick brown boots shuffled and randomly squeaked against the floor causing her to flinch as it made her head pound rather painfully. Mia was pleased that she could go through the halls and not get lost like she did as a first year though. The school wasn't so huge but surely there were plenty of secret passages that one could get lost in. She just hadn't found those yet. She passed by quite a few portraits as she made her way to the Hospital Wing and was reminded of her thoughts about whether there were more portals behind those portraits as well as Tavarius Mimm's.
When Mia reached the Hospital Wing, she looked around at the cleanliness of the quiet room. She hadn't been here in a long time. She made a great effort not to hurt herself and it usually paid off. She also didn't get sick often but she couldn't help the once in a while when she did. Mia shivered a little and hugged her small body tightly. She wasn't sure why she was cold since it wasn't that late in the fall.
'Oh jeez.' Mia thought exasperatedly 'Now I've got the chills.' She didn't know what symptoms these were for since she rarely got sick.
Mia shuffled over to one of the beds and sat down so her legs dangled from the side. Her boots softly beat against the side of the bed but she quickly stopped when even that hurt her aching head. She took her black bag from around her body and looked at her friends' signatures and jokes while she waited. Her favorite was,
"I have a dream..."
-MLK
It was a joke her friends came up with because Mia had the same initials as Martin Luther King Jr. She reread a bunch of the jokes in the bright colored inks while she waited. She knew it might be a little while if she didn't make her presence known but right now she felt like if she raised her voice to louder than a whisper than her pounding head would explode. Mia just continued to hug herself tightly and rub her arms to cause some friction and warmth.
I hear Bermuda's rather nice, myself.
by Philemon Papp
Philemon had the nagging feeling that someone might have slipped him an invisibility potion. It seemed that half his patients wandered in without ever noticing him or his remarkably organized shelves. So far, not a single student had commented even once on the perfection of his infirmiary, or on the vast improvement in cleanliness that had occurred since his arrival. It was disheartening, truly, and more than just a tad disappointing given all the time and effort undertaken to turn the Hospital Wing into the sterling, whitened room of perfection it now was.
Perhaps if Philemon had chosen a different color for the infirmiary. A welcoming blue, maybe, or even a bold red- either might have called for the attention he felt due to his meager castle. Although, he had to admit as he took in the girl shivering and shaking from her perch on a cot, it was reasonable that the surroundings were given second priority in the students' minds. They did come to the infirmiary due to some sort of physical ailment, after all, and not to admire his domestic abilities.
Philemon gave the oblivious girl a quick scanning, taking in the flushed cheeks, slightly sweaty forehead, and the obvious shivering. Quite plainly, she had the all the outward symptoms of the beginnings of an unpleasant cold. Nodding knowingly, he snatched a bottle of Pepper-Up from his underappreciated shelves and crossed the room to the girl's bed side.
Smiling down at her sympathetically, he held out the bottle. Careful to keep his voice soft, he explained. "I'm afraid there's little I can do about the taste, but the Pepper-Up will at least have you feeling more normal. Then, perhaps, you can tell me how long you've been feeling poorly."

Mia didn't even notice the mediwizard come by while she got lost in the writing on her bag. She did look up when he began speaking to her holding out a bottle of...Pepper Up he called it? Mia never heard of it before but she was ready to do just about anything to get rid of the head ache and chills.
She put her bag aside and took the potion from the man's hand. She downed it before she let the words sink in that he could do nothing about the taste. Mia knew that if she dwelled on it then she wouldn't have taken the drink. He was right to warn her of the taste because she was just about ready to gag after drinking. She just squinted her eyes shut tightly and clenched her small hand onto the bottle while the worst of the taste lingered in her mouth. After a moment, Mia eased and sure enough she felt better than she had though the taste stuck around longer than she would've liked.
"My head was aching when I got up this morning." Mia began her explanation as the man asked. "I only started feeling sort of cold when I left the Astronomy Room."
Mia, not knowing what else to do, handed the bottle back to the mediwizard. "Thanks." she added afterwards, fingering some hair behind her ear out of habit.
Ah, yes, I had forgotten about that part.
by Philemon Papp
Philemon eyed the student critically, considering his options. Pepper-Up was a general restorative and was a fine combatant against colds and coughs alike. It was also potent enough to be effective against the flu, and so was generally considered sufficient for those ailments. The problem, though, with leaving the cure to Pepper-Up alone was the chance that it was something more serious, contagious, and, when in a setting like a school, potentially capable of being spread to the whole population within a week.
Still, the girl had only started feeling poorly that morning, and her only complaints were of a headache and general shakes- nothing too serious. There were no signs of a cough or a rash, and so Philemon felt that really, there was little else to merit further medication. He would keep her for observation, however, for the remainder of the afternoon.
"The Pepper-Up should have you feeling much better soon enough, however, I'd prefer if you remain here in the Hospital Wing until the dinner hour." He summoned over a few of the wizarding periodicals kept for entertainment purposes: Witch Weekly, Quidditch Illustrated, The Sickle, and Wizarding Global- just to name a few. "You may sleep or read, and should you get terribly bored, I can always have a message sent to a classmate of yours to drop by if you like. You must rest, however, and this really is the best place for it."
He accio-ed over a blanket and an extra pillow, and held out both to her, smiling sypathetically. "I'll need to know your name, if you would, and your house, so that I may let your House Head know where you are."\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Mia gave the mediwizard a sort of incredulous look when he said she had to stay in until dinner. It was still the morning since Astronomy was the first class that day. How sick could she really be? Especially since she had begun to feel much better after that Pepper potion stuff. Mia took the blanket and pillow, though not the reading material, but simply put the blanket down next to her and lightly tossed the pillow on top of the other. As nice as skipping class for the rest of the day sounded, she didn't exactly want to do it by staying bed ridden in Hospital Wing.
"I'm Mia Kerova. I'm in Pecari," Mia said quickly before getting to her real point. "But I don't understand why I have to stay so long if the potion made me better."
Mia did feel much better. Still not 100% but she'd rather feel like she did just then than ever have to feel the way she felt after leaving Dione's classroom again. Her headache had turned from a constant terrible pounding into a random dull throb. Then Mia was hit with an idea. It was a strange idea for someone like Mia since everyone, at least back in Jersey, thought of her as a goody two shoes that followed all the rules to the letter. If she could pull this off, she'd shock even herself.
Mia inched back in the bed and rested against the pillows as if she was going to stay even after what she asked. Besides, the way she asked had sounded like she was curious about the potion rather than arguing about staying. Mia pulled up her bag by the strap and took out the spell book before laying the bag down right next to the bed to look like she was making room. If she could just find that spell she saw somewhere in the text she had checked out of the library then she would be able to take the day off from class and not be stuck in the Hospital Wing.
Also, the mediwizard would have to leave the area long enough for her to get the spell right and the half a minute she needed for it to set. The spell was a little complicated for a second year but she had done it to a believable degree for just being a second year. Mia couldn't believe what she was thinking. Was she scheming?
‘How Pecari of you, Mia.' she thought to herself and mentally laughed herself silly while hoping things would work her way so she could get out of there. As nice as the man was to her, she could not and would not miss this opportunity. She was a Pecari after all.
A note for Prof. Connell promised therein.
by Philemon Papp
For a split second, near crippling insecurity beat him about the head with its palpable stick. An exhaled breath later, and it was sent away. The moments were rare now, at least, Philemon liked to think they were. He knew he was young and fairly new to his field. He also knew questions were normal for children- natural curiosity. Mia Kerova wasn't questioning his judgment or abilities. She merely wanted to know...and that's all.
Those reassurances felt weak at best, despite his belief of them being true. He summoned an affable smile and bent to place the ignored magazines on the cot to her right. "You're right in a manner; Pepper-Up will have you feeling perfectly well soon enough. However, there's nothing for a cold like rest, and I'm sure you'd prefer to not wake up tomorrow as miserable as you were not five minutes ago. So rest, Miss Kerova."
He straightened and gestured to an open door that showed a corner of the desk his eldest sister gave as a 'don't screw up too badly at your first real job' present and the heatless flames of the hearth. "I'll go send that note to Professor Connell, so she knows you're here and can perhaps send along a classmate with your missed work."
He paused before closing the door to his office, and considered how wise it would be to leave a student entirely unsupervised. He finally settled on leaving it cracked wide enough that by a slight stretch over the desk he could see the Pecari's cot perfectly. Satisfied, he reached into the top drawer and withdrew a quill and parchment.
Professor Connell, Mia Kerova came to me earlier this morning with a rather bad head cold. I've given her a Pepper-Up, but I believe it would be best to keep her here in the Hospital Wing for the day, if only to ensure that she does properly rest. Should any of your other students show symptoms, please send them along. I am, of course, reachable by Floo should you need me. -Philemon Papp
He blew over the paper lightly to dry the easy smeared ink and then folded it neatly. He placed the note into an envelope, withdrew the Floo powder from the bottom right drawer, and checked on his patient briefly through the crack. He threw a pinch of the powder into the flames, waiting for the flash of green, and then said in clear tones, "Professor Connell's office." In went the envelope, and a brief poof later, the fire was back to its decorative ambling over the three cozily placed logs.
Philemon replaced the Floo powder and locked the drawer after him. The in-house communication line was not one taken by all schools, he knew. His almer mater had used a mirror system, which was fine for person to person communication. Sonora's was somewhat less personal, yet in a way, more convenient. A message would still be delivered whether or not the person was there.
He exited his office. "I've sent the message to Professor Connell. Now there's nothing left but for you to relax." He placed a cup of water on a tray beside her cot. "Here's some water for you, and when you get hungry, tell me and I'll have your lunch delivered."

Mia kept the spell book by her side while she listened to the mediwizard's answer for her question. It made sense she supposed, but she decided to go with her plan anyway. That is, if she ever made it out of the Hospital Wing first.
\r\n\r\nMia couldn't believe her luck when the man left. She was so happy and excited and a million things at once that she once again let the 'Miss Kerova' thing slide. She mentally swore that if another person called her that today...she let the threat hang in her mind. Mia watched the man go into his office and figured he wouldn't close the door all the way. He did close it enough for her to do what she needed.
\r\n\r\nShe quickly grabbed the text and flipped it open to find the mirror image spell. It was a less advanced form of the Copy Cat Spell, which was the actual name in the book. Mia laughed the first time she saw that. The mirroring spell made an image of the person in one position for as long as the spell was in place. She had read over the advanced version that made a whole copy of the person. That sounded really cool and she noted to try that sometime though by the looks of it she doubted it would work for a second year like her.
\r\n\r\nMia quickly and luckily got to the right page after three good flips and grabbed her wand from her pocket where she always kept it. It was difficult since she had to point it towards her head or heart and her wrists didn't normally bend that way because of how she held her wand. She did her best and spoke the incantation quietly and clearly.
\r\n\r\n"Imago imitor!" Mia silently chanted.
\r\n\r\nShe felt almost like she was being split in two, but the feeling quickly subsided. She didn't see another of her, so she tried again as quickly as she could. After a few tries and fails she was getting quite annoyed and disheartened that the spell wasn't working for her. She just needed an image of herself to fool the man for a few hours. She planned to have a picture of herself sleeping so he'd leave her be, or he'd leave the picture of her be. She heard the mediwizard's return from his office and quickly tucked away her wand while pretending to skim over the pages of spells. When he spoke to her, she just gave a small smile and answered.
\r\n\r\n"Alright, thanks." Mia was going to leave it at that when she had another idea. "But I think I'll just sleep for a little. I'm feeling a lot better but I'm still kind of tired."
\r\n\r\nWith that, Mia leaned back against the pillows and kept the book casually propped open. She just needed him to leave long enough for her to get the stupid spell to work. Then she'd be off scott-free for a few hours.
\r\n\r\nOOC: Okay, here's the edit. Hopefully the changes justify the new spell to people's liking. Sorry about the screw up and I'll keep a closer eye out for the spells Mia does.
OOC: Thanks for the changes, Miss Kerova's author. Appreciate it muchly.

Philemon nodded, pleased. "Good then. I won't be far." He gestured to the partitioned area in the back of the Hospital Wing where the shelf-lined back wall could be seen, chock full of vials and other assorted supplies.
He leaned over to pass a quick charm on the nondescript cup to keep it self-filling with the special water used in most medical facilities. It was, perhaps, best described as 'super' water, what with the amount of vitamins, and requisite electrolytes crammed in it; a blend designed to help along the healing process in the best way possible.
Philemon, once satisfied that his patient was situated comfortably, returned to the quiet task of testing each and every single item in his supplies for potency. Ever since the debacle of that pain reliever from a patient prior, he'd had the unhappy task of reviewing the many- many! shelves that lined the back wall. He setlled into the job, however, with nothing more than a stifled sigh, turning every few minutes or so to check on his (thankfully) resting patient.
0Philemon PapPft. Like to see you try...0Philemon Pap05
OOC: Mia's going to pretend she didn't see that while I'm going to laugh at her. ^_^ That's my job as the authoress. Carrying on...
BIC: Mia watched the mediwizard leave to behind an area in the back of the Wing. She took a small drink of the water, which made her feel rather good for some reason, while she watched for a moment as the man messed around with some vials. Well, some was an understatement because there were a whole lot of vials lined up back there. When he turned back to look her way the first time, she simply looked into the cup and tilted it back to take a drink.
Mia put the cup down though it felt just as weighty as when she lifted it the first time. She raised an eyebrow and looked back as the cup refilled itself. Magic never ceased to amaze her. Mia pushed the thought aside and tried the spell again when the mediwizard turned back to the vials.
She kept herself leaned back against the pillows to look like she was sleeping but had the book propped up a bit to see the spell. She brought out her wand, twisted her wrist to point it at her heart and silently spoke the incantation again. She got really excited when the spell took after what seemed like the millionth time.
Mia saw herself in the bed beside her but the image was sleeping peacefully. She smirked and looked back really fast at the man. It seemed like he would randomly look every few minutes and Mia didn't want to be spotted when he did. She slipped from the bed and ducked down on the opposite side of it where she had put her bag. She stifled a giggle at her little plan and quickly thought about where she would go right now. She didn't take long because she was getting cramped having to duck behind a bed.
Mia was about to get up when she remembered her boots. They tended to clunk a bit as she walked, so she took the few minutes to unlace them and carry them out with her. She'd put them back on before leaving the building. Mia peeked over the bed to see the man's back to her. So far so good. She pocketed her wand, grabbed the apple in her bag that she took earlier and very quietly tip toed out the door of the Hospital Wing. She looked back for a moment from out of sight behind the door at the slightly odd sight of herself sleeping. It was odd but kind of cool so she hung back for a few minutes to see it and to see if the man would make trouble for her plan…but mostly to see it. It was a simple image, but to her it was way cool.
And time to hand out the detentions...
by Philemon Papp
Philemon's forethought was finally coming into play. At the beginning of term, it had been suggested to him in a letter from his older brother Les (an art teacher in Nova Scotia) that he put some kind of alarm on his rooms that would signal the unwarranted exiting of patients. Despite having been privately schooled at home for his primary and secondary educations, he was not so gullible as to believe that children everywhere were as obedient and docile as he had been. Not that his docility or obedience had been induced by a natural inclination to be as such; Philemon had simply learned early on that his mother was far more tractable if obeyed immediately and said instruction carried out with a smile.
When the wand in his robe pocket began to buzz, he did not immediately put down the vial in his hand. Rather, he gave an inobstrusive glance to where Mia Kerova was supposed to be laying, and then spent a few more seconds guessing at which of the many imitation charms she might have used. Considering that she was only a second year, the chances were fairly high that she had used one of the more basic spells, most probably the Imago Imitorum. And, as any student past his fifth year could tell you, that particular spell had one very large con to it.
Philemon straightened from his half slouch over the work table and rolled his shoulders forward the once. Taking his time, and wanting to give the deceptive Miss Kerova as much rope as possible to hang herself with, he crossed to check the false image that lay peacefully, imitating all aspects of a sleeping girl minus the aspects of movement and sound. This was probably the first time the Pecari had done the charm, and had Philemon been of a different mind, he might have given her house a few points for a job well tried. In truth, however, he was bothered by the deception. As much as he disliked controversy, he disliked even more to be thought of as foolish. Had Mia really thought him so stupid as to not notice the difference between a real body and an imitation?
He ran his hand through the center of the unsolid facsimile; the spell dissolved around his fingers before gathering up into a coil of silvery spirals. The coil, shaped similar to a spool of thread, remained stationary long enough for him to cast a quick tracking spell on it. Not two seconds after he finished, the coil shivered and then slipped through the doorway, following in the direction of its original caster.
Philemon paused near the doorway after locking up the supply area and his office. After straightening his white robes, he adjusted the wards to the infirmiary to give him notice should another patient arrive in his absence. Miss Kerova could not have gone far, and in the meantime, while his wand directed him along the silvery coil's path, he could think of possible detentions.
0Philemon PappAnd time to hand out the detentions...0Philemon Papp05
Mia smiled one last time and left the Hospital Wing, her boots in one hand and the apple in another. She reached the front doors of the school and put the apple into her mouth, holding it there with her teeth. She then slipped her boots back on and laced them up again. Before walking out she stopped for a moment and felt fur rub up against her leg. Mia smiled a little and kneeled down to pet her black spotted, white cat while thinking.
She was starting to feel bad for ditching the medi guy. He was nice to her and she didn't want him to think she thought he was stupid or anything. Even she knew that a simple mirroring spell couldn't fool many people. She just didn't want to stay in there all day and the idea sounded like fun. Mia mentally kicked herself. She knew she wasn't cut out for scheming or pulling pranks and the sort. It just wasn't her thing but at the time it sure seemed like fun. It still seemed like fun and at least the first part was done and she was out of the wing.
It was too late to turn back now though. Besides, she'd be back later and hopefully he'd never even know she was gone. Hopefully he'd just continue checking all of those vials and just let the image be. If he did find out she left, than she prayed he wasn't a stick in the mud (was that the right phrase?) and could handle a little fun. If not…well Mia didn't want to be introduced to her first ever detention.
She got up, but before she could leave, she saw a silvery coil zoom towards her and circle around her hip. It took a moment to realize what it was because she was captivated by it. She remembered reading about what happens when the spell she did was undone. It turned into what she saw in front of her.
‘But why did it track me back here…' Mia smacked herself in the forehead with a quiet ‘Ouch!'
Mia knew why it was tracking her. There was probably a tracking spell on it. Mia saw one of those somewhere in a spell book she had looked at and she had looked at many. She wanted to know as many spells as she could since she was a muggleborn witch and new to magic. She didn't remember what the book said about tracking spells so she used common sense. Why would it track her? Because it would track down whoever cast it. Or better yet, whatever cast it. Mia took her wand from her right pocket and the coil jumped up to spin around the tip of it. She looked at it, then down one of the halls, then outside, then at her cat.
“Silk,” Mia began in a whisper “take this and go where ever in the school. Just stay inside and no following me for now. Keep moving but not anywhere potentially dangerous. I don't want you or the medi guy to get hurt. Got that?” Silk meowed in what Mia could tell as understanding and took the wand in her mouth before scampering down the hall and disappearing from sight. The little coil followed the tip of the wand.
‘That cat is way too smart to be normal.' Mia thought with a laugh.
Mia knew her cat was slick and fast and knew all sorts of passages through out the school. She could really send the medi guy on a wild goose chase. Mia just hoped that wouldn't peeve him anymore than he might be. She was still hoping he wasn't peeved at all. Mia shook her head with a sad smile before looking down the hall she had come from. When she still saw no one, she made her way to the Labyrinth Gardens quickly and didn't slow down until she was far in.
