Josiah Ashwood

Josiah finished setting up for Charms Club. He had spent all day folding paper cranes, the muggle way. He figured he had enough for everyone in the club, plus he had a huge stack of parchment. This spell was inspired by Echo’s announcements in Cascade Hall for Noveling Fury!. He looked around, smiling to himself. Though he had never been much by the way of an author he planned on doing Fury this year. He was going to do it for Elly more than Echo.

“Hey! How you doin?” He said to the first person who showed up. Wow, it was already that time. He waited for everyone to get here before he cleared his throat. He had to get the show on the road. There would be time for palaver in a few moments. Now was the time to start charms club.

“Hey all! Welcome to Charms Club. Sorry about last year. I was rather busy. But this year it’s time to get together and show off to our friends in a fun way. No grades here, just candy when you all do well. Oh, but today I stole some pizza, chips and soda from the kitchen for you all. Oh and Elly? I gabbed one of those veggie pizzas. The kind made outta biscuits and all kinds of veggies? Not like a pizza pizza, just like desert pizza that’s not for desert. But I also got cookies! Okay, bribing you all with food done. Now, I got three spells for you, like usual.”

He grabbed a paper crane from the table. “We have a literary theme this time around. You may have guessed our first spell. If you were here last year, it lets these cranes fly to your desired recipient. The spell is pretty easy to do. All you gotta do is if you have a particular recipient in mind, you picture their face very clearly and say Exsto Locum while tapping the crane with your wand, like so” Josiah tapped his wand on the crane and muttered the spell.

“Then, just blow on it to give it a lift!” Josiah blew on his crane’s wings and it fluttered from his hands. It wandered around the room before resting at Elly’s feet. “If you just want it to fly to whoever it can reach, say the spell without a face in mind.” He added.

……………………………….......................

After a while he stopped the clubbers after they seemed to have gotten the hang of it. “Okay, guys. The next spell is a lot more fun, I think. It lets you write words in the air. Its fun, like you can do things like spell out ‘GO TEPPENPAW!’ at a game,” He smiled at them. “Here, I’ll show you! Lacuna prodeo

Haha! This is what I mean!

“It works the same way as the other one did. You have to think very clearly of what the words look like. You have to think very, very hard or one part or another wont show up right. The spell to use is Lacuna prodeo. This is another pretty easy spell. The book I read says it’s second year level. So have fun! And please be creative and don’t say nasty things about people.”

………………………………

“Okay!” Josiah said, clapping his hands together once a while later. Some time had passed and a good chunk of the food was missing. He was happy. Maybe next time he’d bring more variety of food. “Final spell before we go!”

He looked at all of them, trying to judge if they were having fun. “The last spell will help lots on homework. It counts your words for you. Like on a muggle computer. The Word Count Spell. Not much to do for this one. Point to the page, say the spell, and the numbers you have written will show up after the last word on the page, or if there is no room, just next to it. It’ll fade when you remove your wand. The spell is simply Doco Lingua. I have papers here that you can use to try it out on.” he pointed to a stack of papers.

“Have fun, we still have an hour or so left!” And with that he wandered over to go grab a slice of pizza and watch the clubbers start practicing the spell. \n

By the time Elly arrived in the charms classroom, there were already a couple of people gathered for Josiah's club. She was pleased for him - he put a lot of effort into finding suitable spells to do at the club (though admittedly she helped out when she could), and it was great that other students wanted to come along. Elly winked at Josiah as she found a perch on the edge of a desk, and gave him a thumbs up.

Josiah started off by introducing the food, which made Elly grin; it served as testament to the teenage mentality that people were more likely to show up to any event if food was provided. "Great, thanks," she called out, acknowledging the veggie option.

The first spell was a favourite of Elly's. Both she and Echo had used it in the Hall - it was a great way of spreading information in a quick and controlled manner. Josiah demonstrated it nicely, and Elly hopped from her perch to retrieve the paper origami bird. With a swift incantation, she sent it flying back to Josiah. The other clubbers had started to collect the paper cranes and have a go at the spell themselves.

Elly headed over to a younger student who wasn't looking particularly certain. "Everything okay?" she asked with a wide, friendly smile.

When Krisalyn opened the door to Charms, she was surprised (and happy) to see that there were many people already there to practice their charms work. She smiled, hoping to not seem as eager as she would have if she had been to the club first. Although that usually was the case, Krisalyn didn't want to come on too quickly, even if she had taken a liking to Charms. She quickly glanced at all of the faces, and replaced her grin with a frown. She didn't recognize anyone that was there already, and wasn't even sure of there were other first years. Biting her lip, the young witch walked over to a cluster of empty desks and hopped on one, sitting. She swung her legs, hoping to see a familiar face come through the door.

Krisalyn was startled when Josiah, the boy she'd learned to be the host of the Charms club, coughed. She blushed slightly at her timidness and listened. She glanced over to the food table when he announced it, not having noticed before. She wondered as to why it was there for a moment, but quickly decided that if it made people happy, why not?

She listened intently to the directions, and decided that she wouldn't send it to anyone exact. She wasn't about to fly a crane to any random person. She almost giggled aloud at the prospect of blowing a paper bird to make it fly, but wasn't about to question the magic. She was surprised when he abruptly stopped talking and the others began wandering towards the table that held the cranes. Krisalyn stood, and walked to the birds, gently picking one up. She studied it, deciding that it was hand made, judging by the uniqueness of each Crane.

She headed back towards her little area, and watched the other students begin lifting the birds up. The young witch turned back to the table, biting her lip. She scrounged up the spell from her memory, and lifted her wand. Reciting the spell, she blew on the paper and was disappointed as nothing happened.

Just about to try again, Krisalyn jumped when she heard a voice directed at her.

"Everything okay?" an older girl smiled. Embarrassed, Krisalyn bit her bottom lip and mumbled, "Uh, yeah. Just didn't work out for me. No big deal, I guess." She grinned up at the girl, and thought that she looked slightly familiar. Krisalyn guessed that she had seen her in the Cascade Hall, because she wasn't a fellow Teppenpaw.

Blowing her bangs from her eyes, again, Krisalyn looked at the Crane and once again saying the spell. She made sure that no one's face was imprinted in her mind, while speaking. She picked up the Crane and let out a breath. Once again, no flapping wings.

Frustrated, Krisalyn turned to her peer. "Am I doing the arm movements wrong? Because this really isn't working out..."

Irene Liddowe (Renaye Warren in tow)

August 13, 2008 10:54 AM
Irene had finally gotten around to the Charms Club. She had meaning to go ever since she had first heard about it, but something always came up. Homework would be in excess, Quidditch would be in practice, something would be in the way of her making her way down to the Charms corridor. Thankfully, on this day, Charms Club fell in between all other happenings. The same could be said for Renaye, but she wasn't going as willingly. Irene had dragged her cousin with her after finding her in Cascade. As the two entered the room, Irene noticed that a few people were already present. The brunette waved as she spotted Elly across the room. Renaye, beside her, was still trying to convince her,

"Irene, I'm not even that good at Charms!" She said, taking hold of her arm, "You like Charms."

"You don't hate Charms," Irene said, giving Raye a roll of her eyes. Renaye let out a sigh.

"Okay, I don't hate Charms, but that doesn't mean I'm any good at them..."

Irene let out a light laugh before putting a finger over her lips as Josiah began to introduce them to their first spell. That was one thing she liked about Charms. The spells were never all too serious. They were taking paper cranes and making them fly! She loved these pointlessly fun spells. Renaye was smiling as she watched the bird fly towards Elly. It's not that Renaye didn't want to be there (not like she had something else she really wanted to do). The blonde girl didn't want to have to show her mediocre Charms skills. She hated being the last one left working in class and she certainly didn't want to be stuck on a simple extra curricular spell. Her green eyes roamed over the room, coming to rest briefly on the food table. Irene had picked up her wand and was waving it at the folded paper.

"Hey, Rena," she said, "I'm going to steal some food, okay?" Irene nodded, her blue-green eyes never leaving the paper crane that was flopping feebly in her hand. She gave another wave of her wand before the the bird hoved in her hand. She gave it a small blow but the crane seemed to have other plans as it floated upwards continually.

"Hey!" She called to it indignantly, "Accio!" The crane zoomed back into her hand were it sat innocently. Irene gave a sigh before casting the spell once more. The crane rose above her palm and fluttered over to the nearest person. Irene grinned at her success and followed the bird to retrieve it. It lay among the feet of someone not too far. Renaye was watching as Irene snatched it from the floor and looked up at the person,

"Hi."

Renaye took a bite of her cookie, watching the many cranes hover from here to there. Her hand twitched towards her wand, but she clenched her fingers into a fist. Maybe later... Renaye looked around as she heard someone approach and smiled as they drew near.

"Don't worry, it can take a few tries," Elly said with a kind smile, backing off a bit while the kid gave another go. When it didn't work this time, Elly admitted, "It took me nearly three weeks to get that spell right in my third year." Her ability to pick up new spells was notoriously poor among her peers. "You a first year?"

"Am I doing the arm movements wrong?" The girl asked then. Elly titled her head to the side for a moment while she considered the question.

"No, I don't think so," she replied. "It looked like you had that bit right - though I'm no expert," she added with a chuckle. "You don't look very sure of yourself, and magic can tell, you know," she winked good naturedly. "If you believe in yourself you're twice as likely to get it right," she said, making up the details on the spot. "And don't worry if it takes you a while to get it right - it'll come eventually, with practise."

If only Elly'd had someone tell her that when she was in first year. As a Muggleborn, she'd found everything both confusing and difficult, and had since learned that magic often took a lot of work (especially in her case). Though she supposed that nothing she said would make a difference to the first year in the long run: she would have to figure everything out her own way.

"I'm Elly," she finally introduced herself with a wide grin. "Or that loud redhead in pecari, as I seem to be more widely known." She grinned to let the younger girl know she was teasing. "You have another go at the spell, see if it comes to you this time."

Amelia Smythe

August 13, 2008 4:35 PM
She hadn't originally been intending on attending any school clubs, academic or otherwise, and particularly not a club for an actual class. Still, Amelia's outlook had changed somewhat, and seeing as she was already affiliated with the school paper (and rather proud of being the only first year on the editting team, despite Professor Flatt's grumps), Amelia had decided to see what this charms club was all about. Besides, she had a feeling that Echo kid might dump this particular club report on somebody else; Amelia would rather it was her being given the credit than anybody else.

Although there was a smattering of older students, Amelia noted that the club was largely comprised of first years. Though she supposed that a club run by a mere third year wouldn't attract the same attention from the older students.

She had brought with her a compact quill and small notebook to record any details that might be necessary for later report writing, and, of course, her wand. Amelia's long blonde hair was tied up in a tight ponytail, kept back from her face. Her nails were perfectly manicured and she wore a purple day robe, which would be more than adequate for the day's activities.

When the club began, Josiah Ashwood (who she knew by family reputation only) introduced the spell they'd be learning first. It wasn't practical in the usual sense, but Amelia could see this spell had its uses - certainly it was far more practical than those silly curse removal charms they'd learned in ddefense. Paper cranes were actually quite a classy way to convey messages to one another, when in the Hall, for instance. Amelia was even lazy enough to consider using the charm when at home to send messages down the hall to her sister.

Before she went to collect a crane for herself, Amelia made a few notes in her neat cursive. Things like who came to the club, how it was run, the fact that food was available, and materials were provided were all important features. Finishing up, Amelia just closed her notebook when she noticed one such paper crane had landed at her feet. An older girl came to collect it, and greeted Amelia with a 'hi.'

"Hi," Amelia replied.

Irene smiled at the blonde girl, though not immediately reccognizing her. Whenever this occured, it usually let to one conclusion: first year. The year where she had been a first year seemed so far in the past that it came as a shock to think that it was only two years ago. She was thirteen now (and almost fourteen). Plenty was different from first year and still changing. Now that Dad had been writing to her, she didn't know what was going to happen with everything. He had said he was really trying, but after his last letter, she doubted it. He broke at the smallest mention of reality. Irene wasn't sure if he could handle a sober world.

"I'm Irene Liddowe," she said, straightening her pale green top that she wore under her darker green robes. "Have you been to Charms Club before?"

The thing about back-to-school after midterms was the repeated question and answer segment. How was your midterm? Oh, it was fine. That's good. And then what? You're sort of stuck. Irene usually tried to avoid asking the question because what if it wasn't fine? Hmm... Even more awkward. Truthfully, Irene's midterm wasn't bad. There was plenty of snow, plenty of family, and plenty of letters to keep her mind occupied. She got a charm from Uncle Mike to add to her bracelet, which she had in her jewlery box up in the dorm. She spent time painting with Laina and attempting to teach Machu tricks. Unfortunately the twins' owl wasn't very cooperative. By the end of break, though, Irene was ready to be back.

"I'm Amelia Smythe," she replied to the other girl's greeting. Milly didn't think she'd heard the name before, so would have to rely on her own perceptions to know what this older student was like. She was fairly polite, and neat in appearance, which meant that Amelia had no scruples in talking to her.

"No, this is my first time," Amelia replied. "I'm in first year; I'm writing an article for the Aronos about the club," she said, with just a hint of pride in her voice, and waving the small notebook to draw attention to it.

Amelia ambled slowly towards the table holding the cranes while she spoke, the conversation hopefully encouraging Irene to walk with her. "I'm not especially good at charms," she lied, "so if I don't get it right, please don't laugh at me." She offerred a small, quite genuine smile. Although Amelia was incredibly practised at manipulating others to get what she wanted, even at the tender age of eleven, she could be perfectly agreeable if caught in the right mood.

Selecting a purple paper crane to match her robe, Amelia took a couple of small steps back. "Irene, did you say?" After clarifying the name, Amelia did as instructed, and tried to send the crane to the older girl who appeared to be her partner, at least for the moment. She cast the spell, and blew on the origami creation. It fluttered half-heartedly from her hand, and, although it headed vaguely in the right direction, it fell short of its intended target, landing a short distance form Irene's feet.

"Don't laugh," she reminded Irene.

"No, this is my first time. Irene nodded, fixing the wing on the yellow crane. Amelia confirmed Irene's suspicion that she was a first year. There was something difference about the girl however. She didn't have that timidness that came with many first years. She gave her the impression of a very confident girl.

"Me too," she said, "I'm on the Pecari Quidditch team so finding time between practices is almost impossible." Amelia informed her that she was at Charms Club for the Aronos. Irene's expression brightened. She had considered doing the paper but there were too many things that told her she wouldn't be much help. Irene liked to write for fun, but to be published? She wasn't going to fool herself into thinking she was that good. Also, free time was a scarce luxury. Brett, though, had plenty of involvement with the paper and she, admitedly, lived through him a little. With both of them doing time-consuming activities, it was hard to find all too much time to just relax with friends or each other. "Oh, you're on the paper! You would know Brett then?"

The two made their way to the crane table where Amelia picked up one of her own. "I'm not especially good at charms, so if I don't get it right, please don't laugh at me." Irene figured a reply was unnecessary and instead just replied with a look stating "Come now, would I laugh?" She inquired her name and Irene nodded. Amelia gave the spell a go, waving her wand and giving a puff of breath at the paper bird. The crane fluttered over, falling just a matter of a foot or so away from her blue-painted toes.

"Hey, you did better than I did," she said with a grin. "Mine went straight up and I had to summon it back before I could give it a second go. So," she said, plucking her wand from the pocket of her dark jeans, "Where is it that you call home?"

Amelia's opinion of Irene slid several notches when she admitted to playing Quidditch. Although she wasn't as violently opposed to the sport as her sister, Amelia simiarly couldn't understand why self-respecting girls would want to play in the first place. She almost mentioned this to Irene, but the girl was an older student so, for now at least, Amelia held her tongue. Instead she answered the question that had been asked about the paper's editor in chief.

"Yes, I know Brett," she replied. Well, 'know' was a fairly strong term for someone she'd only met a few times, but it would suffice for the occasion. "He's ... enthusiastic," she said diplomatically; it was difficult to comment without knowing whether she may hinder Irene's opinion of her, especially without knowing how she and Brett were connnected.

Irene's next question confused Amelia - there was certainly more than one answer. Flicking her blonde pontyail back behind her shoulder in a well-practised manner, she replied, "My family is from Illinois, but here I suppose my home is Crotalus." In essence, her family was contained in Crotalus, too. Her parents had both been in that House in their school days, although Lucas had unexpectedly broken the mould and found himself in Aladren.

"My sister Cecily is in Crotalus, too," she said, as she placed her crane on her palm for another go. "You might know my cousin Lucas; he's an Aladren third year." Pausing her conversation for a moment, Amelia cast the spell a second time and the crane flew right into the face of her partner.

"Oh I'm terribly sorry," she said, hurrying forward to collect her unintentional missile. Despite her apology being genuine, Amelia couldn't supress a smile at quite how accurate her spell had been. "Well it worked, at least," she said, inwardly congratualting herself. "Are you okay?"

Irene still wasn't exactly sure where Amelia's opinion was at. She was aware that this conversation was becoming increasingly strained. She would just have to be as friendly as possible, right? Irene could probably manage to find something they had in common. Amelia was on the paper, Irene liked to write. She was sure she could find something. But maybe that was her optimism taking over... Irene grinned as Amelia described Brett as enthusiastic.

"There's a word," she said with a small laugh, waving her wand at the small crane. "He's my boyfriend. I thought about trying for the paper too, but I decided there's only so much I can do in one day. Now, let's try this again..." She murmured the incantation and blew softly on the paper crane. The bird fluttered into the air and landed lightly on the ground beside Amelia. Irene had always loved Charms. Charms and DADA were her two favorite subjects. She considered teaching either of those after she had finished with her schooling. She had always wanted to be a teacher, like her mother had been.

"I'm from Northern Michigan," she said, "They're covered in snow right now."

"My sister Cecily is in Crotalus, too." Irene, who had been in the act of picking up her crane, paused for a moment before continuing on. Cecily's sister... She had heard plenty of the Smythe girl from Renaye. She could mention that "Oh, hey! My cousins are in Crotalus!" but somehow she couldn't see that going anywhere well. Instead, Irene responded to the inquiry of Lucas.

"Oh, sure," she said with a nod, "I've seen him around--" Her words were cut short however, but the sudden appearance of a paper crane in her face. She let out a yelp of surprise and swatted the thing away. In the midst of Amelia's apologies, Irene couldn't seem to help the bubble of laughter that was growing inside her. She was soon laughing, unable to suppress it. Her face must have been so funny...

"S-sorry," she gasped, "I'm n-not laughing at you, I sw-swear! Merlin, that scared me..." The situation might not have been that funny, but for some reason, the girl could not stop laughing! It wasn't until the next charm was being announced that she finally managed to calm her fits of giggles. She let out a breath, apologizing to her partner again.

"Sorry, sorry," she said, "Want to give this one a go?"

Rather than Irene being hurt or affronted, as Amelia had feared, she burst into laughter. Already smiling herself, Amelia allowed Irene's giggles to be infectious. Her opinion of irene had gradually been falling, but the look on her face and watching her bat away the crane was enough to endear a girl to anyone. When she was sure the older girl wasn't hurt, Milly laughed with her, only claming down to hear the next spell.

"Yeah, we can give it a go," Amelia grinned, her eyes shining with the finally abated laughter. "Lacuna prodeo!" she cast after only a very brief pause.

Delighted, Amelia watched as a letter 'A' formed in the air, looking as though it had been written in smart, black ink. m followed, then e, but after that it looked as though the writer had given up, and the rest of her name was lost in random and incomplete scribbles in the air.

"Not quite what I'd hoped," she said to Irene, her tone still fairly light from the amusement. She looked back to the letters to see them fading away, so soon.

"Have you learned any of these spells in class already?" she asked, her mind skipping momentarily back to the Aronos. So far she was having a good time. Learning with older students was quite beneficial, too; Amelia was sure there was lots she could learn from Irene. Furthermore, the more friends she made, the greater were her chances of popularity. So far this school club was getting a big thumbs-up from her.

Irene went over the wand movements in her mind for a moment and began practicing the motions silently. She looked up as Amelia began her attempts at the spell and watched with interest. The 'Ame' worked out perfectly fine but the rest seemed to fade into the air. Irene gave a shrug as Amelia professed her disappointment. There was always the chance for another go. Not too many people got the spell on the first try. Irene pictured her own name in the air, her practiced cursive coming to mind easily. "Lacuna prodeo!" She said, waving her wand, feeling like she was waving a sparkler on the Fourth of July. The 'I' connected to the 'r' which began to loop into an 'e.' However, as the line continued, the writing began to break, disconnecting here and there. Irene bit her lip and tried to refocus the letters to mind. The remainder of the 'e' looked a little brighter and began to crescendo into the 'n' before fading away. Irene let her arm fall to her side.

"Ah well," she said, gesturing for Amelia to take another stab at it before responding to her question, "Nah, the stuff we learn in class is a little more everyday than this. These are more crazy-fun, you know?" She gave a small smile.

The first year girl seemed to have no problem talking to others, even those older than her. Irene hadn't been shy, but she certainly hadn't been bold. Yet again, her first year hadn't been the most enjoyable experience of her life. She had too busy worrying about legal stuff, as an eleven-year-old! Dealing with Dad always made her feel so much older than she actually was. Her fourteenth birthday was approaching, but fourteen-year-olds didn't normally pen pal with their fathers in order to help them through rehab, but here she was. There was a letter upstairs waiting to be replied to, something that Irene didn't have the patience for at the moment. He had barely lasted through three letters. She wouldn't do it if he wasn't going to take it seriously. Irene wasn't about to have her emotions messed with again by him.

It seemed Milly was not the only one unable to do the spell right first time, and this cheered her. Though she was a bit disappointed to learn that the classroom spells were less fun, she wasn't really surprised. in fact it made her all the more glad that she'd decided to come to charms club. Next lesson, or even in the commonroom, she could perform some of these charms much to the envy of her classmates. She was surprised there were so few first years here - she'd have thought they, like her, would be eager to make new friends and enjoy a school club. Unlike with the newspaper team, first years were allowed to charms club.

Amelia made a mental note of the fact that these spells were more fun than in classes, and also of there being so few first years. She wondered how many students of each of the other years made up the small group. "I thought there would be more first years here," she voiced her thoughts aloud. "I know that Josiah Ashwood is a third year. Are there many older students here?" she asked. Then, with a tap towards her pocket, where the notebook was currently held, she added, "For the paper."

At Irene's gesture for her to have another go, Amelia smiled and flourished her wand. Here, it felt as though getting the spell right was not quite so important as in lessons. There was definitely more opportunity to fool around. Taking full advantage of this, when Amelia cast the spell again, her letters were purple, to match her robe. This time she managed her full first name, despite it being rather messy, but when she began an attept on her surname, the A and m had already begun to fade.

"It doesn't seem to last very long," she commented.

"I thought there would be more first years here. I know that Josiah Ashwood is a third year. Are there many older students here? For the paper." Irene took a look around the room and spotted Elly's vivid hair right away. She was paired with a younger girl that Irene didn't know. She was probably a first year. There was also Renaye, but Irene felt as if mentioning their relationship might result in some sort of uncomfortable conflict. Irene wasn't one to get caught in the middle of dorm fight... in a completely different house! No, a vague introduction would do perfectly fine.

"There's Elly," she pointed out, "She's a fourth year. Her partner I don't know, but I'm guessing she's a first year. There's Renaye Warren, she's a second year. And then you know Josiah Ashwood." Irene watched the blonde girl write her name in the air, though the purple letters began to fade. She made an audible note of the timing of the spell.

"You might have to imagine it a little brighter in your mind. Maybe think of it as writing with ink rather than magic? Hold on, let me test that theory..." Irene held her wand up once more. She said the practiced incantation and began to write her name once more. It went much better this time. Her pale blue writing shimmered in the air as she moved her wand to form the letters. The cursive writing hung there long enough for her to finish the letters of her last name and take a step back.

"Any other paper questions?" She asked, "I'm happy to help!"

Amelia frowned as Irene pointed out Renaye Warren; she knew a great deal bout the rude, Quidditch-obsessed cretin Cecily was forced to share a room with. Thankfully Amelia didn't share a room with anyone so disagreeable. She quickly dropped her frown, though, not least because the expression was not becoming on her, and turned her attention back to the spell; Irene had managed a fairly decent attempt.

"That looks good," Amelia said; her version of a congratulation. Spurred on by the older girl's success, Amelia tried this spell again. She wasn't sure whether she was entirely successful in imagining the writing as done by magic rather than ink, but her spellwork had marginally improved. The purple letters were bolder than her first attempts, but still faded before she managed to finish writing her name. "It's trying to tell me I have a short attention span," she said dryly, not the least bit concerned she hadn't mastered the spell successfully.

"Any other paper questions?" Irene asked. "I'm happy to help!"

"That's sweet of you," Amelia told her with a smile. "Thank you. I'll let you know if I think of anything else." Then, after a pause, she added, "Are you going to write any articles? I'm sure Brett would like it."

Irene

Irene resisted the sigh that threatened to break loose as Amelia's expression changed at the mention of Raye. Irene adored the girl. She was so bold, bubbly, and she was one of the few people who saw potential in her rather than her past. All the same, Amelia was Cecily's sister so she might have the same bias that Irene had with Renaye. Either way, Irene wasn't one to start conflict, so she let it pass. Her blue-green eyes turned towards Amelia, who was giving her spell another go. It went better this time, but faded nevertheless. "It's trying to tell me I have a short attention span." Irene let out a laugh.

"That was a lot better though," she said.

"Are you going to write any articles? I'm sure Brett would like it." Irene smiled but shook her head all the same.

"That he would, but I don't have much to report. Finding the time to write it would be a whole other story!" Irene said with a grin, she paused for a moment, considering the topic, "Now you've done it. You've gone and gotten me tempted!" Irene let out a short laugh. "I really can't though. Being a Pecari I'm doomed to too many extra-curriculars. It's how we live. I'll give you this: if I am struck with inspiration I'll write something."
