Rowan liked water Creatures she found them fascinating, and enjoyed swimming during her lessons. Today’s Advance lesson was one such swimming lesson. Once again she had warned her students to wear swimming clothes, and put up notices in the commons the morning of the lessons. She had set up folding chairs with writing desks for them to take notes on before getting into the cool water. The dark haired Professor waited patiently for the students to gather. She smiled at her students as she greeted them. “Good morning and thank you for getting here so promptly in proper attire.” She said with a smile. “Let’s get right into the lesson.”

With those words she waved her wand and the words Beings & Beasts appeared on the chalkboard. “As you all know according to our government every magical creature that inhabits the wizarding world can fit into three Divisions. These divisions are Beast, Being, and Spirit. Of course the Spirit Division is self explanatory. While a ‘Being’ is defined as any creature that has sufficient intelligence to understand the laws of the magical community and to bear part of the responsibility in shaping those laws. Examples of a Being are goblins, vampires, hags, giants, house-elves, veelas, dementors, and werewolves in their human form.” Rowan paused allowing her students to finish writing it all down.

“Now a Beast is defined as s a magical creature that does not have sufficient intelligence to understand the laws of the magical community. Examples of a beast are unicorns, dragons, phoenixes, and sphinx. And yet both Merpeople and Centaurs are both listed as Beasts. This is because both have refused Being Status, because they didn’t want to be classified Hags and Vampires. So there is now a sub division of the Beast Division, Humanoid Beasts.” She paused once again allowing her students to catch up.

“Now you all maybe asking why I’ve told you all this. So I shall tell you, you will be interacting with Merpeople today. They have feelings, and are easily offended so be careful. Now Merpeople can breathe of course underwater and above the waves for sometime. Merpeople society is based around organized communities much like our own. They have a great love of music, and have been known to attract people with their voices.”

“Their language is known as Mermish, and only a few Wizards are known to speak it. Though when Mermish is spoken above water it sounds like loud screeching. Merpeople keep Grindylows as pets, and this community has domesticated Hippocampuses.”

“Now for this lesson we will be going under the water to explorer their community. We have been invited to a concert, if that doesn’t sound pleasing, and then there is a game of like Quidditch being played, except you ride on Hippocampus and there’s no snitch or beaters. If neither of those sounds like something you’d like to do then you can swim around and casually observe but do not intrude on anyone. Now I’m sure you all know the bubble charm, and a warming charm so make sure to cast this upon yourself. If you cannot tell me when I come over to cast a Mermish translating spell upon you.” She said with a smile. “Alright let’s get started!”

OOC: Feel free to explore the lakebed, do anything Rowan suggested or something she didn’t , or even press your luck by refusing to get into the water. Minimum posting length please, and the longer and more detailed the more points you earn for your house. Also you can write Rowan casting the spells on you, and there’s no way she messed them up!
