After several incidents over the last few months, I feel it is necessary that we revise the rules regarding chatzy. I feel chatzy has a great power to contribute to us feeling like a community and want to ensure that continues.
Currently, our rules are: ‘Discuss only Sonora related matters’ (a rule which I feel has become irrelevant, as we frequently have wide-ranging discussions that are clearly enjoyable to most people) Stay safe and don’t share personal information (still a good one) Site rules apply, have fun! (Well, ideally, yes)
I would prefer to engage in a constructive solution, with everyone involved on agreeing what our community should look like, which is why I am suggesting the revision of the rules. However, this does not mean that I will not follow up individual incidents of bad behaviour with the relevant authors regarding specific complaints. I will. But I would also like us to collectively pinpoint any behaviours that we feel make for a negative environment in chatzy. This will give clearer guidelines to anyone who has problems interacting appropriately, as well as giving site authorities clear guidelines for following up on incidents.
Some ideas I have so far, based on comments and complaints I have received are:
If a person requests to stop talking about something/stop being asked a question, this means ‘stop.’ Any persistent badgering on the topic will not be tolerated The above applies to specific one to one interactions - the topic of conversation at large will be decided by popular interest. If a topic (e.g. politics, religion) makes someone uncomfortable, they may voice this and try to change it, or leave the discussion Power playing applies to chatzy. Any attempts to pressure another author into acting a particular way OOC or IC will not be tolerated. Refrain from remarks which are hurtful or unconstructive, such as ‘Why don’t you get this?’ or other name calling
If authors feel a rule is being broken they should: Reference the rule in a clear way, to give the person a chance to stop/apologise Take a screenshot of the conversation and send it to the moderator (DH Skies) if they feel the behaviour warrants consequences
In the event of a rule being broken: In the first instance, the author will receive a warning Be temporarily banned from chatzy (suggestions for appropriate lengths of banishment appreciated)
I welcome comments on this post, or emails to my personal address (included) for anyone who is not comfortable discussing this publicly. I am also happy to answer further questions or address any further issues via email.
