Come In, Come In by Amy Fox

Dear Miss Fox, the letter began.

It is with great regret that we must inform you that the American Quidditch League has denied your request to return at this time. It seems that, upon closer inspection, many of the teams are still unwilling to have a player with your amount of physical energy and vigor- At this Amy snorted as she reread the line for possibly the hundredth time since having received the letter. - at this time. Please understand that we are doing this for the best interests of everyone involved. While many would love to have a player of your calliber return to the league, we do not believe-

"That we want someone as insane as you back," Amy finished allowed, paraphrasing the rest of the sentence. "You are way too much of a liability and we can't afford to have you around. Blah blah blah blah blah." Crumpling the letter up in her fist, Amy slammed it down onto an object that might have once resembled a desk. Sliding down in her seat, Amy lifted her bare feet onto the edge of her desk, leaning back onto the hind legs of the chair.

Since the feast, Amy had made it a point to remain either in her office or on the pitch. It wasn't that she was purposely trying to avoid the general population of Sonora exactly, she just didn't want to see anyone. That was all. Really. She had no reason to avoid people. Simon and Wolfe were just stupid guys who liked to tick her off. She was so above it.

Really. She was.

Huffing slightly, Amy settled into her seat, closing her eyes as she tried to tune out the general annoyances of the world. It seemed that the silence was short lived, however, as someone soon began to knock on the door. Although she initially tried to ignore it, the knocking continued until she finally opened her eyes and yelled for the person to enter. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

I Need to See a Woman About a Broom by Mika

Mika was a bit surprised at the rather rude shout for him to enter. From an adult no less. Ah well, he had always heard Americans were loud and rude. He pushed the door open slowly, wheeling his chair into the woman's office. Mika couldn't have looked more out of place in the athletics office, skinny, pale, frail looking. His black hair and large dark eyes made him look even younger and frailer than the wee little first year that he was. He sat very straight in his wheelchair though, and didn't give the impression of being intimidated. Yelling and being assertive may not have been a prized asset at his yeshiva in Israel, but in Russia, everyone was loud and mean all the time. And Mika was a Russian first.

"Pardon me," he had a very quiet voice, but spoke with self confidence. "You are the woman who is in charge of flying? Da?" He asked, raising his eyebrows. His quiet voice had a fairly thick Estern European accent, but his careful ennunciation made his words perfectly clear. He had heard rumors about this stern woman, but he had a question for her. The worst that could happen is that she yelled at him. Mika was pretty sure they weren't allowed to beat students in America...\n\n

We'll Have to See About That by Amy Fox

Of all the number of people she had expected to enter her office, a boy in a wheel chair had definitely not been one of them. Tilting her head to the side in bemusement, she waited as he entered the office. Why was the kid coming to see her? Didn't he realize that this was the place people came about trying to fly?

"You are the woman who is in charge of flying? Da?"

Again, Amy found herself dumbfounded. The boy was actually...in the right place? He wasn't lost?

"Uh, yeah?" she muttered in response, before catching herself. "I mean, yeah. Can I ask why? You aren't trying...I mean...you don't want to...hmm...is this about you trying to fly or something?"

One thing was for certain: tact was most definitely not her forte.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Indeed We Shall by Mika

"No," Mika said with perfect honesty, and had to bite his tongue from adding something sarcastic like 'No, I'm here to find out about shrub growers association', he kept his expression polite though. Just because she was rude didn't mean he had to be. "I -can- fly. I just need a broom on which to do so." He knew by American standards he was too young to have ever officially learned to fly. He was in Israel and Russia too, but he had known older boys in his neighborhood, and they had taught him. Mika was no flying protege but, he knew that he could stay on the broom. "I will hopefully be playing quiddich." He added to that, as if that would some how make this all more plauseable.\n\n

Hmm by Amy Fox

OOC: Mika, please remember to keep all posts a minimum of two paragraphs, 10 sentences in length. Thanks. BIC

The boy's determination was rather startling, especially considering the fact that the usage of one's legs was rather mandatory when flying and maneuvering a broom. Amy had spent hundreds upon thousands of hours in the air upon a broom, finding her legs sore from exertion upon landing.

She paused for a moment as she considered the boy in front of her. "You can," she stated, slightly puzzled. "Would you mind explaining to me how you might be able to fly when you are too young to be able to do so?"

She waited for barely a second before continuing, giving him no time to respond. "In all honesty, I can't give you an answer right now because I'm not putting you in the air until I have confirmation from both the Headmaster and your parents. You see, as I'm sure you are more than aware, you are a special case." Her bare feet hit the floor as she moved forward, taking them to the ground as she moved.

"If, and I do mean if you get permission to fly we will then have to go through a set of tests to make sure that you will be able to handle the strain. Flying takes a lot more-" At this she paused to glance at the boy again. "-well, it takes a lot more energy than you may want to consider and Quidditch is in a completely different category all on its own. It is just as exhausting as Quadpot and several of the Muggle sports about because the flyer needs the usage of all muscles in order to maneuver and handle the broom. If you should pass these tests, you would then have to be able to make it onto a Quidditch team through tryouts, which, in all honesty, due to the amount of time it will take to go through these procedures, I'm afraid will most likely not happen this year."

Finishing, Amy ran a hand through her disheveled hair. Why did things such as this always have to happen to her? All first years seemed to be bound and determined to jump on a broom whether or not they should be able to fly. "Do you understand?" Amy finally ended.\n\n

You See... by Mika

OOC: Actually if I had chosen periods instead of commas in certain places and added a paragraph break, it would have been. BIC:

Mika raised an eyebrow. "Ah, I see, all other children require special permission to ride brooms?" He was almost positive no one else needed any such permission. "I already have my Head of House's permission to play quiddich." He gave her a tight smile. It was smudging the truth just a tiny bit, she had never explicitly said he -could- play quiddich, but she had said she couldn't keep him from playing simply because he was in a wheelchair.

"I know how to fly, because like many wizarding children, I am sure, I know older children who have brooms and fly. As far as being on a quiddich team, Aladren does not hold try-outs. I have not heard for sure yet, but it sounds as though I shall be playing second string for the team." Like all other first years. Unless of course the Quiddich captain decided to change the rules so that they would suddenly have try outs in order to cut him. It could happen, but he was pretty sure, based on the discussion in the HOH office he would be allowed to warm the bench. It was a start. And a fair one.

"As for the strain," He again gave her a tight smile. This woman seemed to be just a big bully. That was a bit new to him, he had never met a female bully before, but the dynamic came down to the same. "I am not stupid, if I thought this was beyond my capabilities, I would not be sitting here. Nor am I over estimating myself," much, "Unlike most, I am very aware of what my body is capable of. I have to be."

"I am not sure, madame, but I do not think you can require anything different for myself, than you can for any other child in the school. If you refuse to lend me a broom, than I shall simply acquire one in another fashion. If you bar me from quiddich," He wasn't sure if she could or couldn't. It was a toss up. His HoH had given him permission, but as this lady was most likely in charge of quiddich, she may trump his HoH. "I will play anyway. I am sure quiddich is popular enough that I can find others willing to play for fun with me."

His voice was calm and polite, she was, after all, an adult. He had to show her at least some respect. He hadn't expected this to be such an obstacle though, since he had already had this discussion with both his HoH and the Captain of the Aladren team. He knew it was dangerous. He knew it would exhaust him, but he also knew that it would be just as dangerous and exhausting for any other first year too. THere was nothing wrong with his muscles, after all, at least, not in the area of strength, other than a lack of use. Nothing that wouldn't be fixed by more physical activity. The issue with his legs were his joints. Of course, that also had to do with his muscles in that he was hyper flexible and that caused the dislocations, but, nothing that would effect his quiddich playing ability, or at least nothing he couldn't compensate for.

"I am not a 'special case', madame. I am a first year in need of a broom. I am not asking for any adaptations or special treatment. I would appreciate if you would return the favor."

Mika swam almost daily up in the hospital wing. It had been the only adjustment made in the entire school for him, the addition of the small exercise pool. The kind where you stayed in one place but swam against a generated 'current'. Considering this school was nothing but stairs, it was a very small adaptation. Yes, he needed to get stronger, but the truth was he wasn't really much weaker, if at all, than his average peer, it was that it took far more strength for him to do things like walk, or move from his wheelchair to a regular chair. He could do this, he knew he could! If only everyone would stop throwing roadblocks in his path. If he failed... it wouldn't kill him. And he would be the one who had to deal with the pain of that failure, physically and mentally, not them. All he wanted was a chance.\n\n

Like it or not... by Amy Fox

OOC: Either way, I'm just reminding you of the rules as is my job. BIC:

"No, of course all other children do not require special permission to ride brooms but not all other children are under special circumstances." Amy stated. She honestly didn't care if she sounded like a bigot at the moment, she was going to make sure all i's were dotted and t's crossed. It was simple as that. Taking a deep breath, Amy closed her eyes as she tried to rein in her temper. After a moment of stifling silence, Amy opened her eyes and directed her attention back to the child.

"Like it or not kid, you may not want to be a special case but you are. I realize that you want to be treated just like everyone else, and in every other class and case you would be, but in this case you have to do as I say. I'm not going to have you put in danger and get me in trouble. These are my rules and you will abide by them."

Pushing a stay hair behind her ear, Amy fought the urge to yell. "You may be perfectly aware of what your body can do, you may even be able to fly, but the thing is- I don't care. This is my job. I am in charge of this Pitch and I say that you must follow these procedures in order to do so.

"I am also perfectly aware of Aladren's procedures. They have been the same since the beginning of my tenure at this school. When I say that you will have to wait until next year, I mean this- it will take quite some time for these procedures to occur, and if- by the time this has happened- you have passed with flying colors the Quidditch season will already be in full swing.

"I am also pretty sure that your Head of House did not give you permission to do so. If that were true, I would have received an owl with said information."

In all honesty, she couldn't care less what the child wanted or thought. She wasn't going to put her butt, or crappy job, on the line in order to appease a child. If he wanted to fly then he was going to follow her rules. If she wanted him to have permission from the Headmaster and the Headmaster gave it then he would do so.

"Please understand me, kid. You are going to have to get permission from the Headmaster either way because I'm not going to be yelled at by some person for letting you do this sort of thing. If this weren't a school and I weren't liable for your safety I'd say give it a go because I don't care. But, as it is, you're going to have to wait. And-" At this she paused, frowning angrily. "-if I find you flying on my pitch before this has happened, I will not only ban you for the rest of the year, but I will make sure that you receive a good number of detentions. Is that understood?"

Breathing in deeply, Amy pasted a smile on her face. "Now this can all be rather simple really. I can set up a conference with the Headmaster when his schedule allows and see what he says. If you have a problem with it, then I'm sorry but this is my job." \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

If You Insist by Mika

Was she calling him a liar? Mika had played nice, he had been polite, and if he had needed her permission to play quiddich, surely his HoH would have told him so when he had been in her office having a similar discussion. He may be only eleven, and she may be able to pound him into the ground with one swing, but he was -right- dang it! And he was not lying!

"I do have my Head of House's permission. I was in her office having a very similar discussion with her and Anne. I am not a liar. If you have not received an owl, I'm sure she did not think to inform you. Please, feel free to arrange a meeting with the Headmaster. I will speak with my head of house and let her know that such a meeting will be taking place." He cocked his head slightly, still smiling tightly, but politely. "Thank you for your time."

He inclined his head in the approximation of a bow, and turned his wheelchair around, wheeling back out. He wasn't going to wait for this bully to get around to talking to the headmaster, Mika had every intention of going straight to his office.\n\n
