Coach Amy Fox

April 24, 2006 3:52 PM
First match of the year, Amy mused. The stakes were high. No team wanted to fumble during its first match of the year. She remembered the feeling all to well: the butterflies, the internal questioning, the inability to eat, the constant churning of the stomach. It was fabulous. She lived on that feeling. If you lost the nerves and became too comfortable with the game, you'd become sloppy.

The first match of the year: the Als versus the Paws, or whatever their actual names were. They had been blessed with the perfect Quidditch weather, although the forecast had stated otherwise. The sky was clear with only a few sparse clouds dotting the sky and there was a light breeze, complimenting the mid-70's temperature.

As the stands filled with spectators, Amy felt a slight pang of regret. It hadn't been too long ago when spectators had been filling a stadium in order to see her. A frown lightly etched its way onto her features before she brushed it away. She was not that person anymore. She didn't have that life anymore.

Wimps, she thought caustically. Those other teams consisted of no more than wimps. They wouldn't get on the field with her because she was too dangerous? Was she a beater or not? She was supposed to be dangerous. She was supposed to knock them off their brooms, to disarm them in any way legal way she could (or in any way that wouldn't get her caught).

Quidditch was war, after all. One team trying to break the others defenses, getting an advantage by disarming their biggest opponents, strategically gaining power through tactical plays that allowed them to score. Just because she'd injured a few coaches, bystanders and reporters (partly by accident, partly because they had annoyed the snot out of her) and she had brutally injured players on the other team through well planned attacks, didn't mean that she should have been removed from the game. She'd show them that she could control herself. She'd show them and when they asked her back, begged her back even; she'd make them stew before finally agreeing to return. A sly grin soon replaced the frown. She would then hold the cards in that game.

It was at that time that she noticed the players for each team making their way onto the pitch. It was almost time. She waved them to circle in around her as she simultaneously checked to make sure that they were wearing a sufficient amount of protective gear. "Alright, gather round, all of you. This game will continue until one of your Seekers has caught the Snitch. Is that understood? Good," she finished before allowing them to respond.

"Alright, would the captains please come forward?" She waited for each to step forward before continuing her speech. "The game will continue even if one of your players is injured. Do your reserve players understand that they must take over if this happens?

"No dirty plays, or fouls will be called and penalty shots rewarded. Is that understood?" She waited for each captain to assent to the rules before continuing. "Shake hands and then take your places."

Pulling her goggles over her face, she moved to the box containing the Quidditch balls. "The game will begin the moment I release the Quaffle and blow my whistle. Be prepared," she instructed the players before turning back to the box. The first to be released was the Golden Snitch. Amy watched as the small orb, jerked to the left and then quickly flew out of sight. Stepping father back, Amy used her wand to release the Bludgers, removing any chance of getting blasted by the metal balls as they flew away. Finally, she removed the Quaffle. Turning back to the group to make sure she had their attention, Amy addressed them one final time, "On the count of three:

"One,

"Two,

"Three!" At the count of three, she released the Quaffle, throwing it high into the air, as a loud whistle resounded from her wand. The game had begun.

OOC: Note to all players, please put your position and team name in the author section, so I can keep accurate account of the game. Also, be sure to have lengthy posts, detailing the game. Finally, good luck. \n\n

Dalila Bastet: Chaser, Teppenpaw

April 24, 2006 7:51 PM
Dalila stepped onto the field wearing her yellow, Teppenpaw Quidditch gear and feeling wonderful...if you forgot about the queasy feeling in the pit of her stomach.

With her school broom clutched tightly in her fist, Daliola turned to wave at her fellow student, trying not to show her nerves. She stood in the circle along with the other team members and those of the opposing team: Aladren; more bookworms than athletes, Dalila always thought.

When Captain Jake and the Aladren captain (Dalila could't remember her name) shook hands and the Coach (also couldn't remember her name) blew the whistle, Dalila apprehensions were forgotten. The wind blew through her hair and pushed her glasses up her nose, a decidedly good thing in this particular game.

Coach Fox threw the quaffle into the air, and it had begun to fall back to Earth when Dalila realized she was closet to the bright red ball and flew towards it, snatching it in her outstretched hands. With a yelp of glee that was taken away by the wind, Dalila raced towards Aladren's goals.

She was only a few feet from the goal when someone swerved in front of her. Dalila screached and tossed the ball to the nearest yellow-covered person she could see and prayed to Isis that the quaffle found another Teppenpaw Chaser.

Anne Wright, Aladren Chaser</font>

April 24, 2006 9:35 PM
This was it.

The thought was enough to make Anne freeze, but for no more than a moment. If she froze, the team would freeze. If the team froze, they'd lose. Unless they made it into the Championship, this was the most important game Aladren would play this season. The first one, both of the season and of their team's existence. She refused to consider the idea that she was absolutely terrified, but there was a distinctly unpleasant feeling in her abdomen that suggested her heart, lungs, and stomach were immersed in cold salt water. She turned to face the team just as they were about to enter the Pitch, smiling so that it even felt strange.

"All right, gang," she said, tightening her grip on her broom handle instinctively. "This is what we've been waiting for. This is the exam." She looked at Devian Dupree. "Little Dupree, if you see any of ours land, get in the air. Don't wait for someone to tell you to do it, just get up there, all right? If anything happens to me, then Layne's in charge. He - He knows what to do." Geoffrey nodded reassuringly, but Anne didn't even see it. She couldn't remember ever feeling so nervous, not even the day, in her first year, that she'd received the marks for her first-ever midterm. This wasn't purely personal. This was the honor of the whole House and the confidence of her team on the line. She shifted her grip on the broom handle again, a breeze rustling the sleeves of her blue robes. "Let's go do this thing right."

It was going to be all right. They'd trained. She had seen them preparing, had prepared with them. Even as nervous as she was, she felt a faint fluttering of pride. They had a chance. There was no such thing as certain victory, but they'd thrown themselves into it, and they had a chance. It was enough. A glimmer of an odd smile still lingered around the corners of her mouth as Fox called her and the Teppenpaw captain - Santoro, she thought his name was, Bella's brother - forward. She was glad of her instructions to Little Dupree when she heard the coach's opening comments. She shook hands with the opposing captain civilly enough - her stomach still felt too unsettled to bother with overt hostility, that could wait until they were past this first hurdle - and began arranging her thought patterns along game lines. Nothing mattered but this, her and her team's exam.

Being in the air banished many of her nerves as she became completely focused on one thing: victory. She swore internally when a Teppenpaw in glasses got the Quaffle straight off and went shooting towards Chris Dupree and the goals. Anne didn't think twice about rocketing after her, not caring if there were other players in her way or if this was really the best move to be making. She had to get the Quaffle away from the Teppenpaw. Having that red ball in her hands might not have been the meaning of life, but it sure was the purpose of life at the moment. She drew close enough to the other girl to grab her if not for that stupid rule, noticed how close they were to the goalposts, and made a snap decision. She sped up, flying just far enough in front of the girl that it couldn't be called flying to collide, and prayed for the best.

It worked. With a scream Anne barely registered, the Teppenpaw threw the ball aside, aiming for one of her teammates. Anne went down, aiming to make a steal, and almost screamed herself when a Bludger appeared in her line of sight and made a direct course for her. Quick dive. Come up again, keep the Teppenpaw away from the goals. She hovered alongside and slightly above the Quaffle-holder, hoping the other Chasers would get the idea and take the other positions around the enemy. Even if the Teppenpaw got away, the only direction to go, if Ben and Zoey got in the right places, was forward: back towards their own goals, leaving plenty of opportunity to get the Quaffle. The Quidditch season had begun.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Zack Dill, Seeker, Alderaan (Aladren)</font>

April 24, 2006 9:39 PM
Zack Dill had woken up that morning with a sudden return of nerves. Fortunately, though, he hadn't fainted and concussed himself this time. He only threw up. Twice. After that, he brushed his teeth, twice, and studiously avoided going anywhere near the Cascade Hall at breakfast time. Instead, he went to the library. He spent the morning reading physics books. He did a couple of trajectory problems, a few gravity problems, and carefully avoided the questions that involved collisions, especially the ones with a small mass body and a planet mass body. Those were not good questions to practice right before a four-foot-seven-inch short and eighty-six pound kid had his very first Quidditch game. (Discounting the scrimmage one during his first year of flying lessons, of course.)

The physics helped. He was calm again when he went out to the Pitch, collected Enterprise from the supply of school brooms, and reminded himself that this was his final exam after three years of flying lessons and several weeks of practices. As long as he only thought of it that way, he was good.

Remembering that Aladren's colours were black and blue was bad. Remembering that he was the anti-thesis to the word 'athlete' was bad (though, to be fair, of any position of any sport, Seeker was the one made for him - no teamwork was required, no strength was required, a small size was considered a positive trait, and he actually had good eyesight. Remembering these facts would be okay, except it would remind him that Quidditch was a sport, and it was just better all around to forget that.)

So this was the exam. Coach Fox was the proctor. She released the snitch, and Zack watched it go, pretty much ignoring the bludgers and the Quaffle. Those were not his problem. The Snitch was his goal, the puzzle he had to solve for a Pass. He tried to analyze its jinks and jerks, but the movements seemed completely random from the few seconds he managed to keep it in sight.

"Three!" Coach Fox called out, signalling the start of the exam.

Zack straddled Enterprise, and with a final indrawn breath to steady nerves that still didn't really like heights, test or no test, he instructed, "Up, Enterprise, Warp Two," and he was off, launching up into the air at a respectable clip.

When he reached a point well over the chaos of the Quaffle portion of the game, he nudged the tip of his broom down a notch, "Steady, girl, even out here," until Enterprise was circling parallel with the ground. Now, he just needed to find that flash of gold.

He began flying patterns over the pitch, breaking it down into sections, seeking out the elusive Snitch, and trying to figure out how the laws of probability could be used to maximize his chances of catching sight of the tiny golden ball.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Rob

April 25, 2006 7:36 AM
Rob had come on the pitch, feeling nervous but excited. He had floated alongside Tally and Dalila, and when the game started, Dalila made a great steal of the quaffle and took off. Like in practice, Rob flew near enough to her to be of help if she needed to throw the quaffle, and she did. He heard her scream and all of a sudden the red ball was in his hands. He steeled himself to head for goal but saw he was cornered. Forward was pretty much his only choice. So he took it. He zig zagged past one hovering chaser and took a chance, feinting at throwing the quaffle in the far hoop but at the last second firing through the near one. He just hoped it would go in.\n\n

Tally Adams, Teppenpaw Chaser

April 25, 2006 4:13 PM
Tally had woken up semi-early that morning and had hopped immediately out of bed. Today was the big day and she was both nervous and excited for it. Their first real game. She didn't really care if they won or lost simply because it was the first game. Though, she was leaning more towards winning. Oh well, it wasn't like it all rested on her shoulders and there were members of her team, mainly Rob, who seemed to have no idea what to do.

She waved hello to Kaylie as she left the bathroom, freshly showered, before leaving for the Cascade Hall. There she had a full breakfast. Energy was key when playing Quidditch and Tally had a big stomach for food. She worried late into the night whether or not she would have an episode with all those spectators and emotions running high, but figured if she cleared her mind everything but Quidditch, she would be alright. Besides, there wasn't anytime to fret over such things.

Tally made her way to the pitch with the rest of her team, smiling encouragingly at the other chaser before mounting her broom. When the coach yelled out three, Tally shot immediately into the air and turned in time to see Dalila catch the quaffle. "Alright Dalila!" Tally called out, keeping back a bit incase of trouble and trying to avoid a bludger. She looked around and saw Rob had the quaffle, Tally had missed the pass and though she worried about how Rob would handle himself, she was pleased to see he tried for a goal, "Nice shot, Rob!" Tally called out before shooting to the left to avoid another bludger.\n\n

Jake Santoro: Captain and Teppenpaw Chaser

April 25, 2006 4:36 PM
Today was the day.

The greatest day of the school year thus far. The day of the Quidditch match against the Aladrens. Jake was excited. He had been waiting for this day since back in his first year. He couldn't believe that it was finally here. And after having had a practice with his team, he was confident in their abilities even if some of them weren't confident in themselves.

Jake made it to the changing rooms and then out to the pitch with his team. Before heading over to meet the coach, he focused his attention to them. "Pepper, today you're going to play keeper. Dillon told me about your progress and he thinks you have it in you and so do I." Jake said with a friendly smile. "I know all of you are hoping to win, but even if we don't, I'm still proud of all of you. We worked hard to get here and that's something we can all cheer about. No matter what happens today, I'm glad we're team mates and next time we'll do even better!" His confidence in himself and his team was evident with each word he spoke. He punctuated his words with hand gestures and only stopped talking with the Coach called him forward.

He didn't know the girl captain like he knew the others. What was her name...Wright? Anne...if he recalled what his sister told him. He was really hoping to go up against Jennifer because he hadn't seen much of her this year and thought that being her opponent would have been funny. The shy girl that she was, he wanted to see her in action. But, going up against this house shouldn't be too horrible either. Something that his team could at least have a chance against. Jake was only grateful that it wasn't Pecari as Liz and the twins would never let him live it down if they defeated his team.

When he shook her hand, Jake grinned and wished her well. He really didn't care if they won, he just wanted his team to have the experience of playing so that in their next practice, they'll know their weaknesses as well as their strengths. At the count of three, Jake was off and in the air ready to pound on those bludgers. It didn't take him long to find one and send it flying in the direction of the Aladrens, happy to see that it helped keep Anne at bay from Dalila. Though, Dalila was still stalled but had enough sense to pass it on. "GREAT JOB, DEE!" He shortened her name simply because it was easier. "That's the way to do it!" Jake called out to his team.

"Pepper, be ready, the quaffle might be sent your way soon! Lexi, try to keep the Aladrens from intercepting. And try to break them up!" Jake told Lexi when he neared her on his broom. He chased after a bludger that was heading in the direction of his seeker. "Keep it up, guys!" Jake called down as he whacked his second bludger of the day.\n\n

Geoffrey Layne, Aladren Beater</font>

April 26, 2006 9:06 PM
Geoffrey found himself curiously divorced from normal emotion as the team came together before entering the Pitch, though he did find it in him to nod hello to Bella Santoro in acknowledgement that they played the same position. There wasn't as much of a difference between standing on the edge of a formal game as on an informal one as he'd thought there would be, just a feeling that something was about to finish instead of hitting a high point and carrying on. They were here. The opponents were here. He had a job to do. It was all as simple as that.

He was caught off-guard when Anne, an odd sort of smile dominating her expression, informed the team that he was in charge if she went down. He had been her convenient set of ears when she went on compulsive spiels about strategy, and he was probably the only person at Sonora she really trusted, but he hadn't expected her to announce that to the entire team. It wasn't the politically wise thing to do, passing over not only the third years on the team but her own yearmates - one of whom she roomed with - in favor of him. Since the damage was already done, though, he quickly masked his surprise and nodded acceptance of the role and - he hoped - reassurance that she could count on him to do the job properly if it fell into his hands. She didn't acknowledge that he'd done so, either from some previously unpresented inkling of wisdom or from simply not noticing, and gave them what he, at least, recognized as a form of good-luck wish.

Fox seemed as pleasant as ever, but he was immediately suspicious of the Teppenpaw captain. What kind of player in full possession of his wits wished the enemy captain well and meant it? Even stranger was that Anne had a sort of vaguely amicable expression on her face - some might have even called it the last remnant of a smile - and didn't seem to be trying to do any kind of injury, permanent or temporary, to the enemy's hand as they shook. That wasn't like her. Merlin help them if Anne had gone into mild shock at the realization that they were actually going to play another House or something of the like.

Then the whistle blew, and there was no more time for thinking. Teppenpaw had the Quaffle, and Anne was shooting after the physical embodiment of this fact, no doubt hoping to take it away from her before they had to put Chris Dupree's skills to the test. He hesitated only a second before deciding to leave her to it and worry about keeping his team's Seeker, a third year whose given name he thought was Zack, in one piece while trying to do the exact opposite to the other team's Seeker. It wouldn't take long to spot whoever it was. Few players besides the Seeker and the Keeper didn't actively mingle with the other players, and most Keepers who wanted to keep their jobs stayed in one place.

He was scanning the Pitch for the Teppenpaw Seeker when he saw Anne shoot in front of the opposing Chaser with the Quaffle. What was she playing at? That could have been called as a foul if they'd collided, she could have gotten herself killed if they collided and crashed into the goals, and Merlin-only-knew what else might have happened. He'd noticed that Anne's inhibitions seemed to have grown fewer since their reunion, and she'd always been more or less willing to do anything to get the Quaffle, but trying that move that close to the goal post...that was nuts. They had a Keeper for a reason, after all, and it wasn't to look pretty.

He bit back a furious and, owing to the distance between them, pointless exclamation when the Teppenpaw captain's Bludger kept Anne from stealing the Quaffle from another yellow-clad Chaser, this one male. If there had been a Bludger nearby enough to hit, he would have sent it in a direct and revenge-obtaining line for Jake Santoro, but no such luck. Teppenpaws, it turned out, weren't so nice that they couldn't play Quidditch. Flying after a Bludger, he didn't catch everything that happened, but it involved the new Quaffle-possessor making a sort of loop around the Chasers fencing him in and shooting. Catching up with the Bludger, he hit it towards the melee by the goalposts, but it veered and almost hit a girl who shot out of the way just in the nick of time.

Trying to keep both the Seeker and the other Bludger in his line of sight with success that varied by the second, he hurried in the direction of the remaining weapon, taking just enough time to wonder if they'd scored before whacking it straight towards the first yellow-clad body he saw in the hopes that it was either their captain or their Seeker. If he or Bella one could knock one of those two out of the air, winning would become one heck of a lot easier. Especially if it was the latter. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Adam Whitney

April 28, 2006 11:40 PM
Adam Whitney walked down to the pitch along with the rest of the students who decided to watch the Quidditch meet. Adam actually missed playing Quidditch, but this year he had not joined the team. Over the summer Adam had had some health issues causing him to have to stay a week in the local Magical Hospital until the Mediwizards were able to find a treatment. As a result though, he was not allowed to do anything strainuous, which meant no quidditch.

He was having a hard time deciding exactly which team he should be rooting for, considering there were Jake, who had been his friend for as long as he could remember, and Bella, who would probably beat him up if he didn't support her were on opposing teams. Adam walked up the bleachers until he found himself in a decent spot and settled in for the game.

So far the game was pretty standard, though he was slightly surprised when Anne blocked off Dalila which caused some rucus, but other than that, not much was happening. At least it was a great day for Quidditch. "Alright Santoro!" Adam called out at random, deciding that it was better to use their last name so that neither could get upset at him. He hoped something spectacular would happen.\n\n

Bella Santoro, Aladren Beater</font>

May 01, 2006 2:30 PM
Bella Santoro walked onto the pitch in silence with a look of utter determination etched into every muscle of her face. She wasn't exactly sure how she was chosen to be beater considering she signed up for chaser, but assumed Anne thought she would be just as good as her brother. However, Bella wasn't quite so sure. Jake had had years of practice playing this position while Bella had only a few months. Oh well, no time to back out now and as Bella took a few swings of the bat in her hand a feeling of power overcame her. She could do this.

Bella gave...what was his name? Oh yeah, Geoff, a tight smile when he nodded in her direction. She knew he could give two licks about her, but they were teammates and it was wise to at least look as though you gave two hoots for everyone. Otherwise, the other teams might strategies against them using that. However, as the coach began talking, Bella zoned out, concentrating on stretching herself (which was rather hard since she was clad in her gear) and keeping herself focused on that she could do this, she must do this, she will do this.

At three, Bella took off into the air without a second thought. Immediately her eyes scanned the sky for bludgers, ignoring the rest of the game. What was happening elsewhere was none of her concern, just hit the bludgers at the other team and keep her team from being hit by bludgers that was all. She saw a bludger heading in the direction of the crowd of chasers and nearly hit Anne. Darn, too slow of a reaction from either her or Geoff. At least Anne was quick to get out of the way.

A bludger flew at Bella and without hesitation she wailed it in the direction of the Teppenpaw Keeper. Aim wasn't much of an issue for Bella having been chaser for so long, she had to shoot properly each and everytime she threw the quaffle. Being beater was just the same. So, instead of waiting to see if she hit her target, Bella flew away and headed for another bludger that was trying to sneak up on their chasers. She didn't even glance in Geoff's direction to see what he was doing. Her only goal was to knock a person off of the other team. Nothing else matter for the time being.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Zoey Welsh, Aladren Chaser</font>

May 01, 2006 3:31 PM
Zoey morning hadn't been a very good one mainly because she had gotten little to no sleep the night before. She had never played in a Quidditch match before, never even played against another person for the fun of it. Basketball had always been her sport because of her height and hand-to-eye cooridination. Not only that, but basketball had been in her life since she was born. She had only heard of Quidditch when she started here at Sonora back in her first year.

It was moments like this, as she walked out onto the pitch, that Zoey still wished she was playing basketball. Her long legs moved beneath her reluctantly as she followed her teammates out onto the pitch. Her thick auburn hair pulled up into a braided ponytail Her stomach felt cramped and nauseous from lack of food as she had decided to skip breakfast that morning. A decision she was starting to regret. Zoey inwardly sighed as she stopped and listened to the coach give instructions and state the rules of the game.

It wasn't like Zoey didn't like playing Quidditch because she did. It was more like she didn't really have faith in herself to play it correctly. It didn't help that Zoey didn't feel as though Anne liked her much at all. It wasn't anything Anne had said to her, but more like how she presented herself to Zoey. Almost as if Zoey was the enemy. And, as many times as Zoey has racked her brain, she couldn't recall a single thing she had done to make Anne feel that way. But, Zoey didn't want to dwell on it now as the coach yelled out three and Zoey zoomed into the air, albeit, a bit unsteadily.

Zoey had only enough time to turn back around before hearing a scream. She looked around just in time to see the pass between Teppenpaw players and watched what Anne was doing. It wasn't long before Zoey took the hint and manuevered her broom around until she too was hovering around the opposing team chaser. And though Anne's strategy seemed like a decent one, somehow the younger boy seemed to have been able to take a shot anyway. If they had any luck at all, their Keeper (Zoey really had to learn their names) would be decent enough to block it. If not, Teppenpaw would be in the lead.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Ben Stafford, Aladren Chaser</font>

May 03, 2006 10:47 PM
It was the day. Ben had woken up early in the morning that Saturday before the quidditch match in order to prepare himself. That afternoon, he would go head to head with his twin- quidditch style. Now competition was not an unfamiliar aspect to the twins' relationship, but the competition had never between the two of them- it was usually with someone else. Lexi had always been interested in muggle sports, and Ben's realm had always been quidditch. Now the two were being thrust together playing opposing positions on opposing teams for the first game of the year. Needless to say, Ben was a little tense.

He shook off the notion and proceeded down to the pitch, man-eating butterflies churning about in his stomach. It's okay, calm down, this is no big deal, he kept trying to explain to himself, You've been in this pregame situation before, and you can deal with it. But while his brain was rationalizing everything, his body continued to pulsate gently with a mixture of excitement and nerves. Before he knew it, the teams were making their way onto the field to take their positions, and Ben joined into the mass of blue robes.

Within a matter of minutes, the whistle blew, and a chaser for Teppenpaw was off, streaking down the field with the red quaffle in her hands. Ben watched as Anne darted off after her, nearly colliding with the yellow clad player. Ben followed after the action, but as he did, he made a point to clip around Lexi, shouting a quick and sarcastic "Good luck!" as he did so.

Down the field, the Teppenpaw girl had passed to a boy who shot, and a groan made its way to Ben's throat. Without seeing if the shot made it, he just marked up another Teppenpaw chaser, keeping his eyes darting around to keep track of the movement of the rest of the Aladren chasing team. If they were sharp enough, their keeper would catch the quaffle before it cleared the hoop and he, Anne, and Zoey would be able to start putting up some points for Aladren. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Lexi Stafford, Teppenpaw Beater

May 07, 2006 4:11 PM
Lexi hadn’t really quite realized that she really was playing in their first actual game until about a minute after they were into it. Oh, she was paying attention to what was going on, and wasn’t completely out of it or anything like that. All the implications of this game hadn’t hit her yet.

By playing Aladren, she was opposing her twin brother. Now, that really wasn’t that big a deal, considering they had both known that something like that would happen, and Jake and his sister were even playing the same position, which was probably far more awkward than a chaser and a beater.

She had merely hovered for a few seconds after Coach Fox blew the whistle, waiting. She saw Jake hit a bludger at Anne, one of those many girls in her year that she didn’t know all that well. She hadn’t seen the other one yet, and so was looking around for it right as Jake called out for her to keep the Aladrens from intercepting, before he went flying off by a bludger going after Kaylie.

She spotted the other one, flying toward Pepper, right as her dear older brother came whizzing around her. She half-smiled, half-glared at Ben as he sarcastically wished her luck, then whirled around to stop the bludger from hitting the keeper. “Oh, I can break up the Aladren chasers,” she said to herself, a bit bitterly. “Perhaps I can break a few bones while I’m at it.” Sure, her brother was just as competitive as she was, but there was still no need for him to be so nasty, was there?

She understood that this was where she and Jake were supposed to be dividing up, with her obviously being the one attacking the other team. But Jake was off trying to save Kaylie from the other bludger, and in order to hit a bludger at the other team, she had to get to it first. Therefore, she wasn’t expecting a hard time from Jake about not staying near the action in this instance. Being a beater, far more than being a chaser, seeker, or keeper, was about being flexible with any sort of strategy that was implemented. The very nature of the bludgers demanded it.

She managed to catch the bludger before it hit Pepper, luckily, and send it back to the other end of the field. She aimed it at their keeper, who was another that she didn’t recognize at all. She generally had decent aim, and was angry enough right now to be able to hit the bludger harder than usual, but both of Aladren’s beaters were also hanging around in that area, so the likelihood of it getting past them wasn’t very high.

Still, now there was at least one bludger on the other side of the field. Two, if what saw out of the corner of her eye was Jake sending the bludger towards the Aladrens as well. And that really was all she needed. Now was when the time to play really began.

Kaylie Brockert, Teppenpaw Seeker</font>

This was it, the big game. Kaylie needed to concentrate solely on catching that snitch. She was not going to worry about her brother or be distracted by pretty birds or butterflies.

She'd eaten a large breakfast and spent the rest of the morning eagerly awaiting the match and trying to assure Adam that he'd be okay on his own for a few hours and that she wasn't going to be killed by bludgers.

Kaylie sized up the other team's Seeker. She didn't know him very well, but thought his name was Zack or something. Kaylie could tell he was better built for the position, being smaller and skinnier than her.

She mounted her broom and took off into the air. No sooner did Jake knock one of the bludgers out of the way than the Aladren beater sent one flying her way. She quickly dodged it and set about looking for the snitch.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Zack Dill, Seeker, Alderaan (Aladren)</font>

May 21, 2006 12:49 PM
Zack flew through his predesigned patterns, eliminating first this area, then that as possible places for where the Snitch might be hiding. He was fairly certain the tiny golden ball was in the northeast quadrant when, just by chance, he happened to look behind him to double check that there weren't any bludgers coming his way.

For a moment, he didn't react, too surprised to see the winged ball right there. Then he whooped, turned Enterprise around, and launched after the Snitch as it flew off to the right. "Warp Two!" Zack called out, ordering Enterprise to go faster as the Snitch gained ground. "Warp Three!"

The distance began to narrow and he reached out a hand, heart pounding wildly in his chest as he went faster than he was really comfortable with. The Snitch darted left and Zack jerked his broom handle to follow. One-handed, he nearly lost his balance, and he yelped, dropping and clinging to the handle in his panic. This served, coincidently, to place him in a very aerodynamic position, and he gained further on the Snitch, nearly surpassing it.

Drawing even with it, he hurriedly reminded himself of the free body diagram of forces on him that proved letting go with one hand to grab the flying Snitch would not make him plummet to his death. So he did it. Let go with his right hand, reached out, and closed his fingers around the golden ball.

It was his. He caught it. He sat up, whispered quickly for Enterprise to drop back down to Warp One, then held up the snitch, waving it about for everyone to see. "I've got it!" he shouted. "For the Glory of Alderaan and Princess Leia!"\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Dalila Bastet

Dalila flew around the pitch, watching the movements of the quaffle intently, but it didn't seem to get anywhere near her, where she happened to be. So Dalila sat and waitied for the perfect moment to join in again. At least the rush of flying was still there. Flying was the best thing about Quidditch...next to winning, that is.

Out of the corner of her eye, Dalila saw the Aladren seeker dash across the field and grasp the fluttering golden ball in his hand. Her heart sunk. They lost. Teppenpaw lost. Even before most of the others knew that the game had ended, Dalila slowed sunk through the air, floating just high enough so that the toes of her boots skimmed the grass. She sat there and waited for her team, sighing loudly. \n\n
